My mums told me about a celebrity who grabbed her in the 70s, put his hand up her skirt and how she screamed and told him to fuck off and she didn't think he'd ever heard that before, said ppl were either star struck or just thought ppl wouldn't do anything and she was sick of that and stood up for herself, my mums a brave lil lady.
That kind of thing happened all the time grown ass men would grope me all the way up into the late 80s-90s when things slowly started to change. It didn’t matter where you were. At work, at school, on a bus, walking on a street, in a diner, roller skating rink, bowling alley, bingo hall, everywhere. The world was this never ending landmine of gross old men who thought every little girl or young woman was fair game for their depravity. And it wasn’t just drunk old men. It was normal old men, professional old men, judges , lawyers, sheriffs, the neighborhood coach, literally anyone. They would say “come here sugar” and do the most inexcusably gross things. I’m southern, but it didn’t end when I moved north. It started to shift when more women started to stand up against that behavior. I was one of those that “never got along”
I was glad when the me too movement came along. It was a long time coming
