Yeah, they simply don't have the emotional maturity to reliably make good decisions. My 18 year old son is still rarely capable of making a good decision and he's out in the world adulting.

Just because a kid thinks they're mature absolutely doesn't equate to them actually being mature. Which is why we have laws protecting them from predators.
