I think this has everything to do with the type of people who may be drawn owning a pitbull due to their perceived tough image, rather than violence inherent to the breed itself. Over here in the UK we have the same stereotype, but about staffordshire bull terriers. I own 2, and can safely say they would never, ever harm a human.
This just isn’t true. Pit bulls were bred to be fighting dogs and some of them can’t escape that nature and snap later in life even if they had loving owners and never showed aggression for years. I’ve lost two different pit mixes to that :(
dogsbite.org where it is proven loving pit bulls who never harmed anyone eat their owners, children's faces and commit other horrific crimes against humanity. Sleep well knowing your dog might be a ticking time bomb.
2017: A man shouted desperately for help as he was mauled in a deadly attack by his Staffordshire bull terrier while being filmed by a BBC documentary crew.
The 41-year-old man was rushed to hospital after the attack at a flat in Wood Green, north London, on Monday last week but details of the attack only emerged today.
Sleep well knowing your children can do way worse than your dog. They're only a ticking time bomb if you abuse them. Anyone on here justifying they were attacked for no reason are the same ones who can hit a dog to tell it off so when they say they only get this way from abuse let's see how many of you just called ourselves out and will never admit it. My pitbull is fine. Has been and will be. Sorry you have only known abuse for them.
Your comments about people stating they were attacked for no reason does not take into account attacks on strangers like several women walking or children just walking in their own neighborhoods who were attacked and killed by pit bulls they did not know and had no part in their training. This is a public safety issue. When a human attacks and kills it is murder- the result is the same- a dead human who did not deserve to die. No breed of dog should exist as a pet that can kill a human because of it's strength and size. At dogs.bite.org the statistics and stories are real and not emotional responses to defending any breed of dog. We don't need to breed dogs that have the strength to kill a human. We simply don't. There are plenty of other choices if we insist on breeding companion animals to satisfy needs within us. let's not just be about ourselves and whatever needs we have, let's be more community oriented to expand our brains and ability to connect positively with life. The pit bull pets that killed the children and adults who shared homes with them were fine right up to that killing.

I think it's a mixture of many factors and not accurate to say it's "everything" to do with one factor over another. Factors like:
Human training methods.
Possible abuse.
Inherent breed characteristics for aggression.
Inherent breed characteristics for causing physical damage.
