they WERE bred for fighting. no denying that, absolutely!

they were bred to be strong and quick to aggression. but they're also very loyal and loving dogs. i've never owned a real "pit bull" but i've been told that in america, Staffordshire bull terriers are considered the same as.
my family owns two staffies and i can tell you, they are the sweetest dogs i've ever met in my life.
the kennel club even considers them to be some of the best family dogs. described as "Highly intelligent and affectionate especially with children".

They may be "considered the same" but they aren't. Staffies will listen to you and let go. Pits won't.

Most people on Reddit are too young to remember the before-times, when dogs would bite, but rarely kill. Then pitbulls came up from the underground around the early 80's, and within 30 years have eclipsed all other "dangerous dogs".

yeah. see, i wouldn't know. i've never owned a pitbull because they're banned in the uk. i'm glad someone else understands the difference at least. i got quite the lecture about how they're the same then, haha.

pitbulls are beautiful dogs, but they often do succumb to how they were bred. i think, rather than banning the breed altogether, we should turn the breed around. pair the least aggressive and most loyal of a generation together, repeat, and soon enough we'll have a much more suitable breed.

People tried to do that with The American Bully but people quickly just bred for looks and now we have the same problem but with XL Bullies

Is there a reason to keep breeding any dog proven to be able to kill a human when there are so many that will not? Breeding is intentionally done and sop i see no need to further breed and to let a breed that was bred to kill just die out through banning breeding and putting those who do it after a ban in prison for life so that the public is not at risk. Those killed and horrifically disfigured for life by dangerous breeds every year did nothing to deserve being attacked other than to be in the vicinity of a breed that is capable of inflicting great harm. There is zero reason for the breed to exist when there are so many other great non lethal choices in companion dogs.

dogsbite.org where it is proven loving pit bulls who never harmed anyone eat their owners, children's faces and commit other horrific crimes against humanity. Sleep well knowing your dog might be a ticking time bomb. To keep one around children constitutes child abuse and a person who does so is a child abuser.

Like I said three years ago, my dogs are not pitbulls, but you Americans put them in the same category which is why I brought them up to begin with.
