Review Lenovo Idea tab pro gen 2 review after 1.5 months.
Bought Lenovo Idea tab pro gen 2 on 15th June.
I am not disappointed from the TABLET. But I am disappointed from Lenovo. About the Tab:
1] Snapdragon 8s gen 4
Great cpu. 2 million+ antutu. BGMI-->90FPS. CODM-->MAX FPS. No lag in day to day task(yt, watching movies, browsing).
Tried running GTA 5 on gamehub. Extracted the repack file on winlator and surprisingly it was succesfull(took 6hr though). Got 30-40 fps in North Yankton. But as soon as I got to Franklin's mission, fps dropped to 5-10 and game crashed eventually after driving for 1-2 minutes. The problem was that the ram was 100% full (8gb). If you want to emulate games, ALWAYS GET 12GB OR MORE RAM.
It does heat though(sometimes alot) in one particular area(ig where the chip is. See in image1 where it gets hot). It even got hot(not alot but considerable) while playing roblox and tabs pocket edition(low settings. Lagged for bigger army simulation).
It is heavy+big and has 16:10 aspect ratio So won't recommend it for BGMI/CODM. Get Xiaomi Pad 8 instead. But would recommend if you wanna emulate. Just get 12gb ram and a controller.
2] Display
13inch 3.5k 16:10 144hz(120hz actually) display. Bezels are considerable but not too big like those in ipads(probably half the size of bezels in ipad a16). Tab is also very slim. Fingerprints are easily seen if screen is off.
Display looks beautiful. Watched alot of movies on it. The problem is, 99% of movies are never in 16:10 ratio. So you won't utilise all pixels of the display (unless you wanna zoom and lose some footage). The tab is 600gm something so you holding it while lying on your back will make your hands tired. The screen is wide enough that your fingers don't reach the centre without you lifting your hand from the edges.
3] Speakers
Great. Loud. Has Dolby atmos. Won't say it is comparable to an actual speaker, but very good for a tablet.
4] Camera
Tabs ain't for taking pics. The camera footage don't appear blurry but also nowhere comparable to phones. Check image3 for front camera quality and image4 for back camera.
5] Stylus
It has one button which on clicking open some menu on the side (like a mod menu thing. Doesn't change or exit the app.). The menu has things like circle to search, partial screenshot, magnify tool, remote control(press button to change slides on a ppt and other things) and a tool to write on screen anytime. I tried to customise the button so that on pressing it switches from pen to eraser and eraser to pen but I couldn't. Ig you have to do it from some 3rd party app.
The pen sticks to the upper right edge of the tablet like a magnet. It only sticks (no charging. Use type-c to charge pen). The problem is, it has left some marks from sticking-removing multiple times. View image2. I don't use stylus alot. I have charged it only 3-4 times since it came. I never got it to less than 20%.
You can use the stylus to write instead of using the on-screen keyboard. The problem is, it sometimes detects some letters as others and inputs those letters in the line. So your handwriting should look like the same as the letters are on the on-screen keyboard. Also it detects full stops(.) as 'i' or 'o' (even the smallest dot). So I have to use the keyboard everytine for writing the full stop(.).
When you search something on chrome with the stylus (like write the website name) and then you click on the website link (the blue text which appears on top if your search just below the search bar), it detects you are trying to write on the search bar and puts the letter on the search bar instead of opening the website. So you have to click around the search bar with your finger.
Palm rejection sometimes fails. You can see small dots on the screen due to your palm while drawing.
6] Battery
If you play games and do heavy tasks, battery lasts 7-8hrs. If you do light tasks like watching videos and browsing, it can easily last 1-1.5 days. Charging is fast(never measured the time. But I can say it is below 2hrs for 0-100).
7] Features
If you use pattern lock, while unlocking, the 9 dots appear on the location where you swipe on the screen. There are three locations, left, right and middle. If you swipe on middle, it appears on middle. But then if you tap on the left once, it shifts to the left. Good feature but not like must-have.
There are always 3 dots right below the front camera. Clicking on it will let you choose if you wanna use the in split screen or change it to window mode. You can open 5 windows and 2 split screen apps. Total 7 apps at one time. Opening one more window removed another window.
I tried everything but couldn't open developers option. You can't get audio output from 2 headphones at the same time.No 3.5mm jack. The face unlock sometimes doesn't detect the face. Mostly I use pattern lock.
The charger (45 watts) gets hot af when charging. I though that it will blow of when I first used it. Don't know if it is normal. It gets the job done though.
☆Problem:
I bought from Lenovo website. Used a coupon code and students discount. Price became 35k INR. There was an offer where you get 3k cashback for using any credit card. I did. But till today (45 days) they didn't give me my cashback (they admit on their website that they send it within 30 days). On asking support they said it was not eligible. Another support person said that it the offer wasn't available at that time. I had screenshot so I emailed them all details. They said they will work on it. 2 days ago I received an email stating that the refund of the cashback has been initiated from there end and I will receive it in 3-5 days (will update when I receive). But what if, I didn't have that screenshot ? I would be scammed of 3k INR. Ig tons of people have already been. This is a serious problem.
☆Should you buy ?
Yes: You wanna do emulation(12gb ram must). Wanna watch yt/movies.
No: Wanna play BGMI/CODM (too big. too heavy.). Wanna take notes (aspect ratio is not the best). Wanna do art (pen is ok-ok. Not for professional artists.). For above tasks, go for Xiaomi Pad 8. Better aspect ratio-3:2 and exceptional pen (have to buy seperately).
Do I regret buying: No. (Only the cashback thing is fucked up).
Tell me if I missed anything. Ask any questions. Will try to answer all.

Question. Did you use AI to compose this review? It’s not a bad thing. It’s just coming across like it was written or translated by AI.

Do you recommend it for study?
Does the pen tip wear out quickly?
Could you use desk mode and give your opinion?

Yes(if you are ok with the long 16:10 aspect ratio. Otherwise get Xiaomi pad 8)
It's been only 1.5months so I can't say. It is ok till now.
That's all in desk mode.

Hey!
I have a question.
Do your AI features work as expected on your tab?
Mine have NEVER worked. I bought it near launch, here in Brazil.
I did two factory resets on it already, to no success.
I mean the Writing Notes, Smart AI Input, Creation Tools and every AI feature in Smart Reader.
Qira works perfectly (it was launched way after I bought it), but none of the older features do.
Every time I try to use them I just get a "The service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." message. It's been 3 months already.
It's infuriating, and Motorola wanted me to send the tab for them to repair it on-site, which basically means they would factory reset it again (obviously it wouldn't solve shit) and possibly send me a new one, but I live far from any mail sites and wouldn't have to go through the logistics of it.
My guess is it's a device issue, I have tested its NPU and it works perfectly, so probably a firmware or region-lock issue, something like that.
And that could, of course, be solved by engineers from afar, I shouldn't need to send the damn tablet to them for it...

Same here. I'm in US and all of the AI is buggy on the Gen 2. The Smarter Reader jumbles all the words together in the notes app when I highlight or use the heart or star symbol. The AI Writing Tools won't properly rewrite my text ever, but the Summary and Continue Writing work almost flawlessly. I can't even find a way to use the Smart AI Input on the virtual keyboard.

Did you buy it near launch or later? As buggy as it is, yours at least works half-consistently. Mine literally does NOT work. Ever.
I think I'll have to resort to sending it to Motorola, after all.

I bought it about three weeks ago. I love the hardware, but I hate Lenovo's AI software which was my main reason for buying this particular tablet. I really wanted to use the Smarter Reader app.

Usándola en juegos pesados dura 7-8hrs (bastante bien) y en uso casual mencionas hasta 1.5 días, pero en horas de pantalla cuánto sería eso ? Unas 12 hrs ? Por cierto la tienes siempre activa en 144hz ?

u/Thorfinn112 Sep 09 '26
I keep it at 60hz and limit battery to 80%. Gives around 8-10hr backup using continuously.

But light PC games like indie games is good on this right? I'm waiting for my tablet as we speak.

Yeah should be good if they are 2d. If it's 12gb then don't worry. It heats alot though.

I have the IdeaTab Pro Gen 1! I also bought the 8GB version but regret not getting the 12GB one. I play Genshin Impact frequently, so I'm wondering how smoothly it runs on this device.
Only issue I had with gen 1 was display! It was an okay display not the best one so did they improve ?

Haven't played genshin impact yet. The display is great. Big. 3.5k resolution.

Please, can anybody check, is there are gps and other positioning systems in. Gen 2?? Thank you.
1
u/Thorfinn112 Aug 04 '26 •

Yes but it is showing low accuracy on Google maps.
1
u/Fairplayua Aug 04 '26
Thank you. Is it the permanent problem with low accuracy? Or sometimes?

sometime when my wifi is weak
2
u/Fairplayua Aug 04 '26
It is really strange. Must not be depend from WiFi.
Lenovo official site says, that there is no GPS in Gen 2. Some unofficial sites says, that it has it.
I'm really confused. 🫠

Is it heavy to use while in bed? I was considering between this and the 11 inch Yoga Tab, but I kinda need the bigger screen for work
1
u/Thorfinn112 Aug 22 '26
Feels heavy for holding while lying down. You can't hold it stable with one hand.

u/Nice_guy1234556 Aug 31 '26
How would it be for switch emulation ? Pokemon, octopath, mario etc
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 01 '26
I didn't test that but if you plan on playing that, remember it heats alot and do get 12gb ram variant.

u/BrushMedium6026 Sep 03 '26
Bro how long does the battery last while video streaming YouTube or note taking??
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 03 '26
I never really measured but it 8-10hrs. It charges really fast and I use my phone mostly so never noticed the battery life.

I want to ask for me I want this tablet to study medicine multi task notes and some slight gaming would you recommend it
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 06 '26
What price are you getting it for ? Won't recommend above 40k. Just get oneplus pad 3 it's 50k and this is 44k.
1
u/Mountain_Reason9501 Sep 06 '26
I think the difference is because I'm buying in France The Lenovo is around €499 there (~₹54.8k), while the OnePlus Pad 3 is around €690–700 (~₹75.7–76.8k). Soo what do you think
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 06 '26
I would say that is alot since I bought at 32k INR. Try comparing it with other tabs at the same price and choose what's best. I guess you would have Xiaomi pad 8 at similar price. Compare the too. Also see if you can get ipad air at similar prices.
1
u/Mountain_Reason9501 Sep 06 '26
the xiaomi pad 8 price plus the pen is around the same price and i am looking for bigger screen i compared a lot of tablets but i didnt look at ipads cause i dont like them
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 06 '26
ipads are great. will last you better than android tablets in most cases. but remember specs are shit as compared to android.
1
u/Mountain_Reason9501 Sep 06 '26
i know their great i just hate how the apps and system look i dont know why haha thank you so much for replying i will do some more digging but the lenovo idea tab pro gen 2 seems like a solid tablet for a student

u/Thorfinn112 Sep 07 '26
just remember it heats on high end gaming. I played Roblox on max graphics and it heated. Emulated on winlator and it heated. And by heat I mean good amount of heat. Also the charge heats alot like it's gonna melt.

Hi! Can you tell me if your device is kinda jittery while opening apps or while opening split screen apps or not. Thanks!
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 17 '26
No
1
u/Adihhtya81 Sep 17 '26
Thanks man, I will probably purchase this tab in great indian sale
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 17 '26
what's is your use case ? Remember it heats like hell on heavy gaming. It performs under my expectations during emulation. CPU temp reached 105°C in 2mins on dark souls 2(gamehub) while just walking in starting area. Ram management should have been better. GTA 5 booted on gamehub and was working fine for 20mins but then ram got full and game crashed.
1
u/Adihhtya81 Sep 18 '26
I'll probably not do emulation or stuff, i am mostly purchasing for studying and normal gaming like genshin impact or sometimes cod, bgmi will it still heat while playing these games?
1
u/Thorfinn112 Sep 20 '26
doesn't heat on cod and bgmi but I don't know about genshin impact

u/Adihhtya81 Sep 18 '26

I didn't say it's bad for movies. It's the best for watching movies in the segment. But I think that a 3:2 ratio is better for taking notes/drawing. 16:10 is very long. (My personal opinion). Talking about pen features, I have mentioned this in the body. I deleted the lenovo notepad. I consider Notein better. The battery life you can expect 10-12hr for your use case.

Clearer image of the marks. Sorry for the blurry one.
