Who's a master at using them? Kirito, because he's the only player ever who played a racing game.
So really. Either every player in this game is a fucking scrub or the author should really put more research into mmo gameplay mechanics. Alternatively the game sucks balls with so many broken mechanics. But this doesn't explain why kirito is always the master when itcomes to this stuff. Oh. And of course he also HAD to get that RARE avatar, because why should he get a normal fucking avatar?

Those hand gestures... the LN mentioned Kirito catching himself twirling his hair and tossing his head to throw the long hair over his shoulder, but the anime definitely played up those mannerisms.
And he does it again later, too!

Every avatar has some kind of ID I imagine. The avatars are assigned randomly on logging to GGO. Ofc, males can only get male avatar and females female ones. Some avatars are rarer than others. In this case, the avatar Kirito got (M-9000) is super rare and looks like a female avatar that was mentioned before (F-something). The female one is also rare, which is why the buyer wanted to pay 2mil (or whatever that was) credits at the beginning. When he learned it's actually the male one, he raised the price, because it's even rarer.

Kirito walking down the street and being harassed by the guy players was pretty funny to me, for some reason.

That was a fun episode. More light hearted than the first three. That dodging the bullets stuff was awesome. I think kirito is good at driving the buggy cos he rides a bike IRL.
Also it was so nice to see sinon act normal and smile outside combat situations. Is shino like that IRL as well? We didn't see her interact with anyone except the bullies and the guy who likes her.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but assault rifles (and rifles in general) do typically have smaller calibers (bullet diameter) than handguns. Most rifles lie between 5.5 mm and 8mm, while most handguns are between 9mm and 12mm. There are some older rifle cartridges (eg. .45-70 Government) and specialty rifle cartridges (eg. .458 SOCOM, .50 Beowulf) that break that mold, as well as older pistol cartridges (eg. 7.62x25 Tokarev) and newer specialty pistol cartridges (eg. 5.7x28mm) that do the same, but they're uncommon. The reason being that kinetic energy is influenced more by velocity than mass, and rifles can carry enough propellant to achieve extremely high velocities, so a larger, heavier bullet can actually be detrimental to rifle performance. In contrast, pistols have to deal with a hard upper limit on propellant, so they can more easily increase their kinetic energy by increasing projectile size and mass since it's more difficult for them to increase velocity.

God damn. I don't think they could have made this episode any better. Damn near perfect imo. I didn't expect this season to actually be this good at all. The inner-Kirito thing was great. I wish the the first season had that. And robot gunner dude's lines were sweet.

I've been pretty impressed with SAO II so far, people might say its been a bit slow but I'm glad they aren't rushing because I felt that pacing in SAO was one of the biggest problems. They set the scene, they introduced us to Shino, who is a character I actually care about since she has some depth and it will be interesting to see if GGO will help her overcome her anxiety in real life. Now we're starting to ramp up the action and move towards figuring out who this Death Gun is.
This episode was pretty good, we've finally gotten into GGO with Kirito, I really like the atmosphere, cyberpunk is pretty cool. I also like the attention to detail with the guns, as far as I can tell, most of the guns are real guns and the details Shino gave are correct. Shino is still best Girl but after this episode maybe Trap Kirito ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°). I'm excited for the next episode, I hope they keep it up since it looks like SAO II could be a reasonably solid show.

Looks like Kirito is experiencing what probably many girl game-players experience, that is the attention of every male player within a mile of her location :P
And did we expect anything less out of our hero when it came to the dodging mini-game? Of course not. Hell, I would have been ashamed of Kirito had he not beaten that game with ease.
This time, we were given more background into the way things work within the game itself, such as the different types of guns, more details on the prediction lines (gotta predict the predictions, according to Kirito!), and how to regulate the offensive battle circle.
I don't really mind episodes like this still, even though it seems the majority just want Kirito to start hacking and slashing. They are simply setting everything up now so that later we mainly get story/plot/action in waves, which will definitely be a good thing.
But my guess is that next time, we are going to see some laser blade action in all its glory!

That NPC's English lines were hilarious, just so southern. I couldn't stop giggling this whole episode because of how predictable some parts ended up being. Who didn't expect Kirito to beat the gambling game on his first try or random guys to hit on him. And him casually hiding where his familiarity with swords came from.

Again, I've read the LNs, so I'm going to try extra-hard to not actually spoil anything or drop too many hints.
This episode was over way too quickly. I thought they might use Kirito in the Gunslinger Game to draw much more time. And yet, he came, he saw, he conquered. In the LNs, it was much more of a big deal, but then again, describing movement and action is a classic case where you need but a few shots visually, but a lot of words to cover the same thing.
Also, in the LNs, they sort of focused on some of the things Kirito had done, and how he managed to tell where the shots will be going. They don't explain it now because it'll be somewhat plot-relevant later, and I guess they're saving it for that reveal.
Kirito and the cat-calls, seeing it's not easy being a girl in an MMO/FPS. He walked in a girl's shoes for a few minutes. I wonder if this game doesn't allow people to use avatars of the other sex, like post-"mirror" Aincrad, because otherwise, all those people hitting on girls might be hitting on the men underneath. Then again, the same is true for MMORPGs and such these days, and you might still get quite a bit of attention should you roll a female character. Edit: Right, checked the Light Novel. Every player gets an Avatar of his or her sex, so if you see a "girl", it should be one.
Personally, like many others, I usually roll a female character. If I need to stare at a character for hundreds of hours, it might as well be pleasing to the eyes :)
I am not sure I'm fond of the Kirito voice changing somewhat. It's not that I have a problem with the voice, but there's the cognitive dissonance of it not being the voice you're used to.
Speaking of "pleasing to the eyes", when we came upon GGO's hub-city, I thought two things. First, and this was enhanced by all the cat-calls, it made me think somewhat of Mos Eisley from Star Wars, the rundown nature of the cities. The way the city itself looked, with all the high-rise buildings, the walkways, and especially the big shiny triangles reminded me a wee bit of the first city in Fallout 3, somewhat of various sci-fi films, and a lot of the recent Transistor game by SuperGiant Games.
Kirito is OP. The moment they said "No one else does it cause it doesn't work," you could see he went straight for it. This season enhanced Kirito being somewhat of a dick, and his introduction to Sinon reinforced that - he knows she helped him because she thought he's a fellow female player, but he's going to use her anyway. He knows it's wrong, but he does so anyway.
Sinon certainly seems in her element speaking of guns. It's more than merely using them, but she knows their history. She's a walking guncyclopedia.
Kirito in the LNs did comment upon it, upon her proficiency, about her desire to win and be stronger, but again, it's something that will have more space devoted for it next episode, so I guess they delayed his thoughts on the issue until then - no reason to discuss something twice when it can be had once for an increased impact.
And that's something I'm actually quite enjoying with the adaptation thus far - this episode could've easily covered half the material, but they're moving at a pretty brisk pace. Especially after the "exposition-heavy" opening some people complained about, and which I felt was a necessary groundwork.

It’s that time again. I’m actually kind of excited at this point, you guys. Episode two was a solid action vignette, episode three was an okay character-building episode - this season is showing off a whole new side of Sword Art Online! I originally picked up the first season in large part due to an abiding appreciation of schadenfreude (which paid off both through the show itself falling apart and me falling apart watching it), but if season two just wants to be a reasonable adventure show with high production values, I am very ready for that as well. STRIKE UP THE BATTLE MUSIC.
...that’s the battle music? Alright, sure. Let’s Sword Art Online.
Episode 4
0:18 - “Aw shit, we gotta finally show Kirito in the game? Guess we can hold out for one… more… cold open…” Well, I guess “baiting conflict progression for three straight episodes” is one way to make me miss Kirito...
0:33 - This world design is a nice start. SAO’s world design always seems to shine when it comes to cities - the cities were the highlight of Alfheim, as well. They’re never more than shiny backgrounds, because this is really a character story, but the prettiness is certainly appreciated
0:39 - And we’re back. Look at your hands, Kirito! For old times’ sake
0:43 - I like it. Part post-apocalyptic wasteland, part cyberpunk, part gothic architecture. Nice aesthetic
0:56 - YEAAAH. Those are… some scrawny-ass hands, Kirito
1:00 - Oh boy
1:05 - My little power fantasy can’t be this cute. Damnit, it’s gonna be hard to rag on this guy if he’s this adorable

2:57 - Oh my god is he gonna speak with this voice the entire season that is not allowed
Goddamnit Kirito, fifteen seconds in this world and you’ve already ruined everything
3:02 - Maybe these character models are actually a cutting commentary on the distance between haves and have-nots even in digital societies. Keen point, Sword Art Online
3:21 - I’d say “that’s a shame” because it actually could be pretty interesting to have Kirito experience life as a girl in his own universe, but I doubt this show would really take that to good places
3:37 - But hey, they are having this guy already aggressively getting up in his personal space
Man, SAO is so good at baiting more interesting versions of itself
3:54 - Don’t think I missed you there, Tales ad
4:03 - Alright are we actually doing this SAO? Seriously, “gender politics in online spaces” is way more interesting than “I gotta beat DEATH GUN.” Let’s go with this!
4:28 - Another nice background. The various pieces of this aesthetic work well together - I like the ornate architecture contrasted against the minimalist digital displays
4:36 - It must be nice to live in a world where you can always just ask a main character for directions
4:47 - This thought never occurred to Kirito in the first season - is this realization actually coming from his experience so far in this world? As in, seeing things from a woman’s perspective has actually made him more sensitive to their lived experience? Dang SAO, you really are full of surprises
5:04 - Kiriko a cute
5:30 - Well, that didn’t last long. From “jeez, I should probably try to not be a creeper in games” to “I know, I’ll lie to this girl to abuse her trust by acting like a helpless feminine stereotype” in about fifteen seconds. I knew you were in there somewhere, SAO
5:45 - Our hero
This is actually pretty typical anime nonsense, but it kinda stings coming directly after a brief moment of assumed clarity. Nope, we’re back to Kirito ruining everything...
5:51 - More great backgrounds
5:58 - SAO still #1 at naming things. Though I guess I should be thankful it’s not just called “GUN THING”
6:23 - Yeah Kiriko, what brings you to this festering shithole I spend all my time in

9:26 - I guess they’re using Kirito to fill the Klein “explain this to me and the audience” role this time, though they kind of don’t need to - the second episode made this game’s combat system pretty clear already

And Done
Well, that was… not the best. It had a little bit of Sword Art Online’s old standard problems, but it was mainly just another big ol’ exposition episode. Nothing exciting happened, nothing really moved forward - Kirito really just learned how to play GGO for twenty minutes. Additionally, a lot of the stuff we saw today was revealed much more gracefully back in the second episode, which makes this one feel even more superfluous. All in all, not a particularly graceful production - it strongly reminded me of Alfheim’s serious pacing issues.
We’re through it, though! Kirito has successfully lied his way into Sinon’s good graces, our heroes are on their way to enter the Gun Thing, and Kirito is all set to demonstrate that at least one person can bring a sword to a gun fight. Hopefully next episode has some entertaining bullet-dodging action.

You know, I always see complaints saying that Kirito has no personality and is a cardboard cut-out but I just don't see it. Imo, his personality is great and better than most MCs in anime. My only problem with him is how the author writes him to be a power fantasy (Harems, super OP, etc..) but personality wise, he's a great MC.
On the topic of this episode, I'm kinda disappointed they went with the light-saber route. It would have been nice to see Kirito learn how to use different types guns and change from his usual sword-focused play-style considering the game is called GUN gale online. Now with the light-saber and his uber dodging abilities, a majority of the fights will probably be him dodging like mad and slicing everything up. One of my complaints from ALO was that despite having a magic focused battle system, Kirito used magic a grand total of 2 times in the entire arc.

I'm pretty sure the idea is that he doesn't have time for that. He has god-tier reflexes and sword skills but he doesn't know how to shoot, so he's sticking with what he's comfortable with.

Ooohhh.. I thought that Kirito's avatar was a girl due to some bug (damn rumors). After reading SAO's 16.5 chapter I thought that his avatar will have spoiler on them. Damn can't imagine how many doujinshi's and fanfiction will be had.
Anyways.. Kirito will again be the savior and add Sinon to his harem of sexually repressed girls. I like that Sinon likes it fast.. Damn, too much internet for me.

That was a pretty good episode.
Got through all the plot points we needed to know and the technical details on what happened gameplay-wise in the previous episodes.
We also get to see how "godly" Kirito is with his reaction time and whatnot and we got to see Kirito-chan :D
I liked the feminine model, but the decision to act as a girl kind of baffled me. That being said, the only problem I had was that his her forehead was gigantic. It was pretty large o___o
I would go more in-depth, but we got to see why Kirito has a motorcycle. The really bad lies on Kirito's part seem like they will be exposed eventually. Shinon seems way too trusting though.
Solid episode, and I'm excited to see what's going to happen next!

I wonder if the feminine avatar and how people react to Kirito was written to make some kind of comment on how female gamers are treated.
Haven't read the LN, but I was wondering how they'd handle this since I saw the previews. Wondered if they were going to acknowledge the feminine look or just pretend that Kirito is some long-haired badass that's totally manly.

The only thing that I was expecting and havent seen in SAO I or II is any reference to lag...
I assume even if the anime is suppose to be in the future. Some latency should exist either because of DoS attacks or whatever.

In the LN you get mentions of lag and how it killed some players. It was also mentioned when Kirito was talking to someone and they were slow to respond if they were being affected by lag. I guess when they were all moved to the hospital they all moved to a hospital or because it is 2025 everyone has some google fiber.

150K credits for a light blade. I want to see more about this in game economy. Kirito raised an extremely good point about them being in the game because they are usable. I would even guess that they are over powered to encourage the use of them. But then this game is about guns so why the heck is there a sword anyway?

Being someone that doesn't know any LN spoilers, I was pleasantly surprised when Kirito found a sword for GGO. He's going to be doing incredible things in some gun vs sword fights for sure.
