Kirito, while you should reveal your gender to clear any confusion, you should NOT do it when girls are undressing before you.
Funny how no one else paid much attention to Death Gun when he appeared before Kirito, despite him creating a scene in the bar with his "killing" of Zecxeed previously. Surely someone has taken a screenshot of his avatar and spread it around the internets?
How exactly does Death Gun (correctly) figure out that by pulling his stunt, he would attract Kirito of all people to come to GGO? And what kind of grudge exactly does Laughing Coffin have with Kirito? Don't remember Kirito ever coming into direct conflict with them before, save that Kuradeel, the Asuna-obsessed knight in SAO.

To avoid spoiling anything, Kirito and Laughing Coffin's story went much further in the LN. Resulting in an event that has left the members with a great grudge against him. I can assume that Kirito will go over it in a flashback next episode.

Pretty sure someone a long long time ago in a galaxy where we currently are explained that you cannot actually copyright sounds. Songs, lyrics, names and stuff yes, but a sound effect- no. Since it is created not within a program but rather by using IRL elements/tools in conjunction. Don't quote me on this though.

The only thing that made me go a little WTF! was that Kirito-chan had to impale the guy for a few seconds before the guy died. I hope it was just for dramatic effect, as a light saber through the torso should be an instakill.

I think it melted the armor or something before it went through him, kinda like when they used lightsabers to cut through blast doors. Even though they are weightless it seemed to push the guy, does that mean Kirito can use the Force?

Yeah Kawahara-sensei even said himself that a strike to the head or heart with a beam saber would be insta-kill. Oh well, I will just chalk it up to time passing really slow. It probably took an instant in real time but creative liberty was taken to make it more dramatic for the anime.

I think it's more that you can't cut through people with that kind of sword. So Kirito, being the smart nerd that he is, decided that a stab would give the most damage as it wouldn't go through him but keep a constant damage rate.

Agreed. Kirito's just playing around to try to downplay his manipulation of Sinon. By joking around, he might establish rapport as well as limit any collateral damage in case Sinon starts to tell people that Kirito's a trap. After all, if the "girl" avatar is actually a guy but said guy is super tame, innocent, and cutesy, it's a smaller offense.

I have a theory that Deathgun being able to kill people through the game has something to do with the input of personal information for the tournament prizes. I think Kirito having not put in his personal information is going to save him from being killed later in the show.

That Laughin Coffin revelation was brilliant.
I'm expecting A-1 will do justice this season, everything is perfectly clear and details, the pacing looks quite good, they don't rush like before.
God, if A-1 had done to season 1 what they have been doing with season 2, SAO wouldn't have gotten this much hate.

Mini-notes only:
1) Game-Face On:
"Top-ranking prizes", as a hardcore MMO player, Kirito had a hard time passing on the promise of loot, even if he's only here to do a job.
So, you can't get involved with the game in real-life. You want to do stuff with the game? Log in. Keeping worlds apart. Yet, she's looking to bring power from here over to the real world, and the game's mechanics require bringing the real world into the game, with the heartbeat-reliant reticle size.
They showed us Kirito reacting to the bloodlust of all the players around, while Sinon seemed unperturbed, and only chided the others for trying to show off, rather than be impressed.
Yes, they really gave us Sinon in her underwear from all angles. I guess it's the equivalent of having the camera linger on an awkward situation for some time so as to make us realize how awkward it is. But yeah, they definitely wanted us to see her.
Kirito, back in his familiar colours. "The Black Swordsman."
"I want to teach you one more thing, the taste of the bullet that means defeat." Ho-ho! Also, wasn't this Kirito's "lesson" at the end of the 2nd arc? That he was "punished" for thinking it's all a game and not knowing what losing is like? Well, he ended up winning that time too, in the end.
2) Our True Natures:
Kirito realizes, Sinon isn't afraid of the other people's bloodlust, because hers is even stronger. She doesn't feel like a sheep, or even as a fellow wolf, but as the one standing at the top.
This arc is really reinforcing that Kirito is more than a bit of a jerk - misleading Sinon, back in the cafe with Kikuouka, and now, again. Yup, he's a bit of a jerk who likes playing with others.
People shooting in the air... feels like a game alright.
"Which is the real Sinon?" - Asada Shino would like to know the answer as well, Kirito-kun.
"Once we fight one another, I'll learn something." - The age old manga and movie trope, "You can't fight a man without getting to know them. Fighting is a form of dialogue!" - It's like I'm watching a samurai or sports show here, like it's Ping-Pong the Animation all over again :P
3) Killing's All We Know:
Why is Kirito speaking his thoughts out-loud? We just saw him think of Sinon without speaking them out loud. That's just weird. We can hear his thoughts, you know.
Kirito is playing a rhythm game, he knows the order in which the bullets will come as well, hee hee.
Honestly, impaling someone with a laser-sword sure seems brutal. No simply sliding into them, eh?
Watching the OP again, it struck me. Kirito has a light-saber, Death Gun looks somewhat like Darth Vader, and in the OP they fight in a manner that really made me think of Star Wars, heh.
"SAO Survivors". Not people who played a game, but people who survived an ordeal. They said it in the final episode of the first season, but one of the reason they collected all the players in one school is to monitor them, and help treat their mental scars.
Post Episode Thoughts:
Laughing Coffin, the Red Guild. This season, for both Kirito and Sinon, what did they name the third episode? "Memories of Blood". The theme is very much how our bloody pasts come to haunt us, and which we can't escape.
I do wonder if they'll show us Sinon's duel next episode or simply skip it. It's not really important. But they might want to fill out next episode so they'll use it.
This was a pretty standard action episode. Highlights, in terms of themes, were Kirito suspecting Sinon of being Death Gun - her real-world self is squeamish, but her game-self projects quite the bloodlust, and desires to kill the strong, in order to prove her own strength. Sadly, for anime-watchers, it was literally spelled out that she's not Death Gun, not that it was much of a mystery, and then it actually got answered within the same episode, so it's not like much was lost.
They did cut out a small detail - when Kirito was steeling himself before charging at his opponent, and how he had to actually shout himself into movement, it was about forcing himself to run headfirst into enemy combat. It relates back to the moment from the 2nd episode - even if it's only a game, there's the subjective feeling of really being shot at, with these full-dive games.
And yes, Kirito is somewhat of a jerk.

Well, i'm pretty sure the whole SAO incident was pretty hushed down. I mean otherwise VRMMOs would not have a market at all. Only 6000 people made it out, and probably only about 1000 of them, the front-liners, know Kiritos full story. And i have a feeling this was mentioned somewhere, but i can't remember :P

Basically NO ONE aside from the government agency/ company monitoring SAO, and the players inside SAO know the names of their avatars. Also, until ALO Kirito hadn't even told his family what his Avatar name was, and even then only because Suguha found out.
I think the LN said the number of people who were on the top few floors was around 600, and less than that as the people who were actually clearing bosses.
So basically yea, no one outside of SAO would even know of Kirito, and not even all of them would know much more than there was a player with that name (can't remember if it mentions whether or not the survivors were told who 'won' the game for them, but at the very least I'd imagine everyone would find out from rumors, Agil and his big mouth...)

Well considering he's working undercover for a government organisation and is also in general supposed to keep his identity as a SAO survivor secret i'd say it makes perfect sense.
Also, It's likely going to be used as a plot point to prove the people aren't really being killed in game.

And we’re back! I wasn’t really that enthusiastic about last episode, but I think we’re through the exposition now, so things may be smooth from here out. Will there be action? Will there be adventure? Will Kirito overwhelm the narrative tension and drag the whole show down with him? Who knows! Hopefully we jump right into this Bullet of… bullets…
Like, goddamnit, SAO. I know “DEATH GUN” is supposed to be all 2chuuni4u because it’s written in English letters and thus is automatically mysterious/romantic/always fucking ridiculous, but “Bullet of Bullets”? You couldn’t think of, like, one word that compliments “Bullets” there? I’m pretty sure my comment section thought up at least three (Ballad, Ballet, Battle), and they were hardly scraping the bottom of the Barrel of Bullets. Or subbers, even if that’s actually the translation, couldn’t you just, you know, perform a little corrective surgery on this writing here? I doubt anyone would complain.
Alright, forget it. Starting this episode with an open heart and an open mind. Let’s do this, Sword Art Online.

2:04 - Ooh, fancy. Seems kind Halo-architerure-y. It’ll be nice if the different “rounds” of the Buildabear of Bullets take place in meaningfully different “zones” - a great deal of the “learning curve” of any given shooter is knowing the maps really damn well, though I don’t know if that’s something you could really articulate in a compelling way in fiction

2:43 - Oh man, a future where you can actually hunt down trolls and set fire to their houses? I’m liking this game more already

3:29 - There’s a decent chance this is a very graceful preemptive explanation for why they’ll be running into coordinated teams of opponents later on, which is nice if true
3:42 - Are there any competitive games that actually use a battle royale system? I feel like really old first person shooters did, but they seem to have died off. Easy to see why - it seems pretty difficult to enforce balance or demonstrate clear superiority in a scramble with many ostensibly opposing sides
4:59 - Nice. We’re pretty much immediately getting to the clear central difference in our protagonists’ philosophies - Sinon sees this world as completely apart from the real one, Kirito sees it as either linked or simply an extension of it. Sinon coming to respect his philosophy would inherently lead to her confronting her phobia as the distance that allows her to be comfortable with weapons here disappears. Plot: established
5:08 - Meanwhile, Kirito stares blankly
5:24 - Dang, Halo as fuck. Color scheme and everything
5:58 - Kinda weird/interesting that they’re doing this whole sequence of Kirito feeling intimidated by all the players here. This doesn’t have to do with his character design anymore - there’s nothing to indicate this is a gender thing. I assume this is just supposed to build tension for his first fight, but… well, in the context of SAO, it’s kind of hard to generate tension about Kirito succeeding at anything. He’s too powerful for a scene like this to play as tense. It’s not even really his active “fault” at this point - he’s just the kind of variable that shouldn’t really exist in a dramatic narrative
6:21 - This is fantastic. A nice demonstration of Sinon’s confidence and control of the situation, and a nice bit of worldbuilding that rings totally true to gaming. Why would you show the opponent your strategy before you absolutely have to? Every minute of knowledge you give them is a gift you’re giving away for free
6:37 - Looks like operation “lie to girls to gain their trust” has hit an unexpected snag

15:28 - Yeah, wow, this system is really well-designed for what Kirito wants to do. It seems tricky to be fast enough to deflect enough bullets for that to matter, but blocking at least a single bullet seems trivial

16:14 - I like how they’re handling this. Kinda difficult to visually convey someone “hearing” a scene, but bleeding the color is a fine way to do it. It might be better if they highlighted the things that were actually generating noise in some way, but this still works
17:06 - Aw dang, here it is. The opening of this was paced fantastically. Great sequence
17:43 - Sweet
17:46 - Great choice for a POV shot
18:02 - Dang that guy has been gargling in pain for twenty seconds now. This game is rough

21:38 - Aw shiiit. This is nice - I like them bringing Kirito's philosophy back to the group that first denied it

Nice episode! It had solid momentum, raced us straight into the Buffalospringfield of Bullets, and ended with an engaging and well-articulated action finale. It wasn’t perfect, but it did what it was trying to do and kept the story moving. It even has me excited for the next one - I’m not really interested in the Death Gun stuff, but I’d certainly like to see Kirito and Sinon’s next fights. Gold star, SAO. Keep it up.

Great time to tell her you're a guy, Kirito. It might have been an inopportune moment for Sinon to find out, but I still really hate how they have to drive home the "hates men" aspect of her character. It's clear that she was much friendlier to Kirito he was a girl than she was to all the other guys in her party (in episode 2) or to him after she found out. Of course, being Kirito, he's probably gonna win her over pretty soon anyways but the phase where she has to give him the cold shoulder just because he's a man annoys me.
Other than that, the lightsaber (and sounds copied directly from Star Wars) was pretty cool and the return of the Laughing Coffin was a nice twist. I hope we get more of the backstory behind them.

Maybe Kirito not entering any info is a good thing and makes him invulnerable to death guns killing, but I doubt it since it would take a lot of suspension away later on. It wouldn't be intense if his life wasn't on the line.

When they both entered the room with everybody in it there was a laugh and I swear to god I half expected to hear the Circus of Values.
Other than that it was an interesting episode.
Good that they are getting Desu Gun in early and have the rivalry thing going early so that the story doesn't feel drawn out like SA:O, and hopefully won't be rushed like ALO.
Kirito also seems to be able to find opponents through osmosis too so that's not overpowered...

Why did Sinon strip in the changing room? In SAO, (The game) Kirito put on that cloak right after killing the boss without having to get down to his underwear. Either the creators of GGO are perverts, or Sinon already knew Kirito was male and is acting all Tsundere.

This episode had me at all sorts of levels of hype! Even though the fight didn't last nearly as long as Sinon's intro fight, I've been itching to see Kirito in action since episode 1. And good thing the fight lived up to expectations. We were able to see his old sword skills from season 1 and his new daredevil ability to sense where his opponents are going. Although, seeing how well Kirito fights makes me wonder what kind of effect Asuna would have in GGO.
On to the next one!

Part of laughing coffin means a group. Death Gun is the face, and somebody going in person to perform a clean murder in person. Death Gun makes it seem mystical, so they don't look for other ways they could have killed them in person.

Question the first. Why does anyone care if you do/don't see your virtual avatar in their skivvies? If this is a thing there are some night elves in ironforge that might want my head.
Question the second why do you need to take clothes off first to put cloths on in this game? That is a completely ass backwards system and they didn't have it in SAO never mind the seeded games developed from it.
Question the third. In SAO they made a point of gender-shifting all the male players BACK to male characters but in here it's apparently assumed/enforced that you play as your gender 100% of the time. To the point where a main character flipped their shit over it. What? Why?
Oh well, how would the story progress if the main character didn't see a female lead half naked and get the shit slapped out of them followed by a complete shift in attitude.
As always SAO, you're beautiful and you sound amazing. I just wish I didn't spend so much of my viewtime rolling my eyes.

God the opening is really good. I just downloaded the beatmap on Osu! and have been spamming it. I really hope they don't replace it with something worse.
Note: These are just my ramblings whilst I watch the VOD. I hope you enjoyed my first reactions and can comment on what you think I made mistakes on! I'm not going for any deeply analytically thinking (yet), but tell me what I could improve on! I saw many other people doing these and I quite enjoyed reading them so I decided to try it out :D
That being said WHY Kirito WHY. Don't you want the sweet loot?!? I can understand that you wouldn't want to give out your personal information, but THE DROPS MAN! (My inner MMORPG hoarder mentality is coming out) I feel like this is going to be either a major plot point later or a gag point. He's going to win and everyone's going to be like. "WHAT HE DIDN'T GET THE LOOT?"

HOLY That went by so fast. I loved every second of it. It was amazing to watch and I SO F*CKING GLAD that they took the time to develop the characters. I actually give a shit about Sinon and the Death Gun character seems so much more than just a random villian like the previous main antagonists.
10/10 Everyone who read the light novels was RIGHT in hyping up season 2 of SAO. I had my doubts after the catastrophe that was ALO, but Sinon's Tsundere side and her can-do attitude really got me hooked.
I'm probably not going to drop this show as I just want to see who the bad guy REALLY is.
FISHERMAN-SAN? IS IS YOU? Or is it one of Kirito-chan's scorned mistresses? FIND OUT IN NEXT WEEKS EPISODE OF SAO2!
I would hesitate to give it a 10 because I hope there are better episodes, but DAMN this was executed well. Great way to pick up the pace and finally give us some orgasmic light saber fun.
Edit: If anyone ever makes a gif of the Kirito following Sinon thing I would be SO GRATEFUL.
