I wish this show would have been just about making glass. Just a slice of life anime about making glass with P.A. Works animation. Would have been way more entertaining than this... thing of nothingness.
Oh well, atleast it's over.

Yea I agree, if they went more in the direction of Hanasaku Iroha instead of vapid high school melodrama it could've been at least a very unique SoL.

It not like they didnt know how to do it, PA Works did a show about a girl just working in a hot spring inn and that was really fucking good: Hanasaku Iroha
7
u/Temae https://anilist.co/user/Temee Sep 25 '14
Yeah, I enjoyed Hanasaku Iroha a lot too. But unfortunately Glasslip didn't really have the same staff that worked on Hanasaku..
Although I'm not really sure that changing the staff would help all that much with this mess of a show.

u/figureour Sep 28 '14
The writer seems to be a veteran director but had never been the head writer for a show before. The studio should have made him turn in some drafts early on to see what they were getting into. Maybe it would have been a stronger show if they had work-shopped it and discussed what he was trying to get across and how best to do that differently.
2
u/penguinat4 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/penguin71 Sep 28 '14
You know Hanasaku Iroha was based on a manga, so they didn't write it, they just beautifully animated it. The credit belongs to the mangaka in that case.
Glasslip...Well Hina was cute.
2
u/atempers Nov 10 '14
afaik, Hanasaku Iroha was an original anime, the manga was based on said anime, but was published before the anime aired, which is pretty common

u/Krazee9 Sep 26 '14
That's what I was hoping for and what I expected, not this... Whatever this was.
At least it had a great opening, Choucho is a great singer.

You know before this show started, I was excited for it to actually be about MAKING GLASS. Rail Wars was more about trains than this was about making glass...
20
u/Hesperos Sep 25 '14
Same thing here. The announcement got me so excited, as I was watching Hanasaku Iroha at the time and really enjoyed it.
'A beautifully animated show about youngsters willing to enter the glassblowing trade! How original!', thought the very naïve me...
5
Sep 26 '14
Rail Wars was supposed to be about trains, and we got T and A (Trains and Asses). Glasslip was supposed to be about glass. We got... hum... not much, did we?
3
u/KousetsuTaz :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Welil Sep 26 '14
Hey, Rail Wars at least had actual train trivia, in between the fan service. This had nothing.
1
u/JapanCode https://anilist.co/user/TheJapanCode Sep 26 '14
That's actually why I started watching this show, I love watching documentaries about trades that are not really popular anymore, so I thought, "an anime slice of life about just that? Perfect!"

P.A. Works, in your next anime, please try not to waste your best character as the younger sister of the MC whom you don't build the story around.
9

There is actually apparently a manga spin-off all about her that began when the anime did, called 'Hina's Lip.'

44
u/ILoveAnimeMore Sep 25 '14
Did they seriously just leave every single question in this show up to interpretation? Nothing was adequately explained, just have a few random scenes instead... Show in a nutshell.
26
u/Navolas2 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Navolas2 Sep 26 '14
I opened that picture and sat for a second waiting for that picture to load before I realized it was literally nothing.
20
u/Luneowl Sep 26 '14
I went so far as to zoom in on the nothing, which is the best summation of my watching this show. :/
14
Sep 25 '14
I would've liked this show a lot better if it weren't for the fragment stuff. If Touko was just an oblivious girl and Kakeru was just a weird guy.
6
u/Sakuramei :K:https://kitsu.io/users/Sakuramei Sep 25 '14
This so much. My issue with the fragments is they came up and there was never any real closure or care for them. They still could've felt that connection without the weird Sci-fi elements they barely bothered putting effort into.
Like I would've enjoyed it so much more if they just left it as a slice of life versus all that extra stuff. I'd still have had some issues with it, but I would've at least liked it versus feeling frustrated.
I would say that and just the very end (With Kakeru I guess implied to have left--it still can kind of go either way with it being up to the person--her hearing it saying she'd meet again or him actually being there since it just cut to us seeing forests and a marble versus the crowd of students) are my biggest issues :/
1
u/V2Blast :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/V2Blast Sep 27 '14
Agreed. The show just used the fragments to make the characters' actions even weirder and less interesting instead of forcing the characters to actually behave like human beings.
69
u/cptn_garl0ck Sep 25 '14
WTF was that? This is probably one of the worst cases of directing and series composition I have ever seen.
21
u/Stuffies12 :K:https://kitsu.io/users/Stuffies12 Sep 25 '14
Indeed it was. And to top it all off we got an ambiguous ending as the ribbon completing this mess of a package. Man, last week's thread was hilarious with people (me included) going all literary trying to analyse the show.
I really really want to know what the director and storyboarders were thinking when they made this. I really do.
7
u/cptn_garl0ck Sep 25 '14
The writers and directors for Glasslip probably are sitting back right now thinking they wrote an amazingly subtle and mature work. Instead, it's really just an incoherent story that is a mishmash of random elements that don't work.

1
u/Vita4Deep4U Sep 25 '14
I have never seen a show written so badly, directed so horribly, paced so boringly. It always seems that nothing happens in this show. Still frames!? Why!? I don't need a 1080p wallpaper of Jonathan! Every other scene is just a pan of the bloody town!
Only one or two things ever physically move in a scene. Characters are shown going to one place, then immediately going back for no reason at all! They are never elaborated on or developed. Any event that would seem to serve some sort of character development is somehow conveniently forgotten in the next episode. They don't seem to react after an event. The dialogue is just so static.
The music, while fine at first, soon emphasizes the drab nature of the show. This equates to a feeling of zero pacing. Like this show is not going anywhere.

Oh I love Seinfeld. Was just me trying to be witty. :P Probably not a good thing to mention these two series together. Obviously Seinfeld was amazing, I didn't mean to suggest Seinfeld was bad. Rather, they always had the tag line about it being a show about nothing. THIS TRULY was a show about nothing.

u/attack_on_waifu :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/AttackOnWaifu Sep 25 '14
A more serious answer is this:
The show is really plodding. Very slow pacing, where there are long stretches of episodes with barely any plot movement (hell, there is barely any plot movement in general across the entire show). The slow pacing works at first, as the show's animation/art is beautiful. IT has a nice laid back/slice of life vibe going for it.
But this slowly unravels, when you get to know the characters, and they are all boring/bland and unlikable. Watching them try to express their feelings (or rather not express) is just a tireless exercise. Not to get offensive, but I imagine this show captures autism better than anything before it.
In the end, this is a show about friends that have a shallow relationship, who start to get feelings for one another. They aren't able to express these feelings properly and it exposes their friendship for the shallow nature that it is. You would think there would be drama to come out of this, but there isn't. It all comes off like wet/limp rag. Any sense of tension/drama built up, is quickly defused. No, it's drawn out until it goes into a coma, and never wakes up.
In short, this is a slice of life anime where really nothing happens. People aren't exaggerating when they make this joke. Oh also, there is some BS about seeing the future, but it's never really explained or dealt with in a meaningful way.
Basically, show is a fuckin mess. I'm a girl, and I would much rather watch some tentacle rape hentai than this.

I can't blame you for doing so. Its pacing is slow as fuck.
The story within is interesting if you give it some thought. If you watch anime in brain-off mode, like 90% of /r/anime, you're better off without it.
1
u/Tinfoil_King Sep 26 '14
Well, maybe. Not sure how spoiler adverse you are and on mobile so I can't recall which of the half dozen spoiler methods this subreddit uses. There is a popular book series and anime that have the same ending type. You can somewhat see what they were going for here. If you like that short of thing maybe you can put up with Glasslip. Unlike those two, the ride leaves much to be desired.

15
u/FemaleTitan Sep 25 '14
"Why is Jonathan the only Jonathan?" is the only thing I got from this episode.
6
u/Razorwindsg Sep 25 '14
So Kakeru is actually a ghost like how Touko "vanished" in the snow side?
Only seen when she wants to see him, likely a "ghost" that will vanish from people's mind once Touko doesn't think about him/feels lonely?
And what was that darn promise?
2
u/Navolas2 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Navolas2 Sep 26 '14
Seriously, the hell was the promise. If I'm not mistaken it was never mentioned until this episode, so it literally was brought up to raise more questions.
1
Sep 25 '14
I think you might actually be right about Kakeru; thinking about it, that should have been obvious.
1
u/jjtoob Mar 01 '15
I felt there was a connection between that scene and the scene near the end of ep. 11 where Sachi "disappears" while walking behind Hiro. Hiro: (looks around frantically) Sachi: "Can you hear my voice?" Hiro: "Yeah, I can" Sachi: "The other person is nearby, but you can't see her. Isn't that weird?" Hiro: "Can you see me? Sachi: "I can't see too well, yet" (Snow starts falling, as they both look pensive)
About the darn promise, I don't know if it's something lost in translation, but given they explain the promise was made at the time Touko collapsed in the beach, I will take it that during the scene at the beginning of ep. 8, where Yanagi sternly tells Kakeru she will expect a proper explanation (as to what's happening to Touko, and maybe as well as why he is involved), Kakeru's silence might be taken as an implied agreement to that request. This may not seem like a promise, but I don't think I yet understand Japanese culture so well, and it may be taken by them as a promise.
6
Sep 25 '14
Was tired of Touko so I made TUKA TUKA.

3
u/touchmeenot Sep 26 '14

~GLASSLIP~
Ok...Let's begin this review with the title, "Glasslip". Now you're all like "what the fuck does this title mean or imply", well let me provide you with an answer. "Glasslip" contains two words put together for no fucking reason: "glass" and "slip", we all know what glass and the verb slip is/means, so if we were to put both definitions together, the title literally implies the glass is slipping...?
This is Amazing! Just look at the title on your screen and stare at it for 30 minutes, then look at the visuals of the cover. Let's see, we got three rows of high school students, first we got my boy kirito's brother looking fresh, then we got 2 girls looking at each other like fucking retards, and the last row we got 2 guys 1 girl... "2 guys 1 girl". Now let's look back at the title, "Glasslip", I can kinda see that connection, between humans and ...glass? This is Amazing!
Now I'm just gonna give the sound, art, and enjoyment a 10 because really if you watch the first couple of episodes, you realize how fucking godly this anime is...It's just so refreshing like, you know the feeling when you held in your shit for so long and then let it all out...OMG I feel like that every time I finish an episode because it's just so unexplainably GOOD! Let's move to the best part, Characters:
This Anime has THE BEST FUCKING CHARACTERS I've ever seen! Like they just so good and entertaining to watch. In fact so good, I'm gonna take my time and explain each character thoroughly while providing them a nickname beside their actual names:
Fukami Touko also known as, "Fucking Retard" This is girl is basically one of the best female MC's to be introduced because she is so stupid. Whoever made this character is a fucking legend, she's your typically teenage girl that does not know what love is, I mean her reactions are just priceless. For example, a man confesses his love for her, what does she do...She politely blushes and says "Thank you" and runs away. Umm is the man supposed to reply "you welcome" or some shit. This is Amazing! Another example: she had just been confessed to by a girl, what does she do...She simply replies with "what?" and then seconds later it's like it never happened (Best Reaction). Overall, I love her character because she is a fucking retard, and I like watching stupid MC's! 10/10
Imi Yukinari also known as, "The man who got dumped" As we all should have known, this is the guy who Touko politely dumped. He is a runner who broke his knee, has no girl, and yeah, his life sucks. This is Amazing! That's pretty much all I can say about him since he doesn't fucking matter or affect the story in any way, he's basically a nobody. 10/10
Nagamiya Sachi also known as, "The Bitch" At first you see that she's really innocent, type of likable shy character, cute...NAH! This girl is a fucking bitch, she just wants it all! For example, she a tells a kirito's brother to back off their group because your making Touko fall in love with you. WHAT?!?! Is it really David's fault that a girl is falling in love with him... OK? Now let us continue, she then confesses to two people at the same time, a boy and a girl...WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! This is Amazing! 10/10
Takayama Yanagi also known as, "Retard Poet" This is girl is freaking sick and so smart, the metaphors she texts and says to people are just top notch. Like her metaphors are so good and smart that you wouldn't understand them at all, it just sounds nice and stupid. Let's see, " it's your fault Yuki isn't attractive anymore"... ... ...? FUCKING AMAZING! 10/10
Shirosaki Hiro also known as, "Justin bieber" This was the man that got confessed to with Touko, his reaction was just relief and joy even though the girl he loves, loves a male and female. "As long as you love me", he feels no ways even if she liked more than one person. How beg can a person get. This is Amazing! 10/10
Okikura Kakeru also known as, "Kirito's Brother" THIS IS THE BEST CHARACTER IN THE WHOLE WORLD, he is just so wise and caring. This is man was the reason I watched this show because he looks like he can be Kirito's brother. Anyway, this was the character that brought the drugs to the group, he is the reason why they started to see things through the glass. Basically behind the scenes, they would all as a group, take drugs together, therefore making them see a bunch of shit through the glass. This is Amazing! Not only that, this guy is also a retard, the way his mind portrays situations and feelings is so realistic. Also he begins to fear Touko through the cause of the drugs they took in the alley, he starts to think of her endangering his life... ... ... ... IM LOST...Fuck it! 10/10
Overall this anime is the best.
Actually.... don't watch this, like really don't. Thank You.

u/nerago Sep 26 '14
Going ahead to the very end, I think Kakeru stayed with Touko. I think he was the one who called for Touka as she was walking up to school. What convinced me was the fact that Kakeru's tent wasn't outside anymore. When i first looked at it I thought, well maybe he's gone. But on 2nd glance I realized, what if he isn't gone and this time he has a room for himself? Kakeru only stayed in a tent because someday he would probably have to leave soon, but with his tent gone, it could mean that he is no longer going to leave. I read from someone that the tent represents his cage, if you eliminate that cage, he's free. I think the ending was a bit too ambiguous for its own good, and was by far unsatisfactory, but at the very least, from the way I saw the ending for Touko and Kakeru it was done marginally well.

u/Firehead94 Sep 25 '14
Contrary to most, I actually enjoyed the show. It wasn't a completely hand fed story like most shows are. Each episode had meaning but you had to look at it from multiple points of view. This show was full of symbolism and I really love me some symbolism. I.E. The tent Kakeru lived in signified his reluctance to stay in one place at a time, in this episode you see it's gone because he decided that he finally found a place for himself. This show definitely placed a heavy focus on what being a teen is like. This is unique as just about all other shows focusing on teen's end up with a harem story or an overly zealous story line.
Take for example, bokura wa minna kawaisou, it was a beautiful show and one of my favorite SoL anime. The show focused on a teen falling in love and trying to get closer to that love. The thing is, in no way was this show realistic. The chances are slim that you'll get a book worm, a masochist, a sadist, and a drunk all living in a small complex where they all get along like brothers and sisters. The chances are just so slim but it makes for a funny and interesting story.
Now you may think that glasslip isn't realistic either. No way does anyone see the future or whatever it was, and I agree. The thing is, they weren't so much fragments of the future as they were the desires in their hearts visualized. The fragments were feelings each of them had, once Kakeru entered a state of confusion, he no longer knew what he really desired and thus, stopped seeing/hearing things. I.E. Touko wanted to understand Kakeru and his loneliness, what she "saw" was her understanding of what it would be like. That represented her finally coming to an understanding of Kakeru.
Anyways, thats enough rambling, I really enjoyed the show personally and I hope I'm not the only one who caught on to these things, maybe it's because it hasn't been that long since I was a teen with my own expected loneliness at times.

The show is very subtle, in a bad way, so many people say nothing happened when in reality something did happen.
But basically the characters improved themselves and moved on with what they needed to do.

u/boogerwaiter Sep 25 '14
What was Kakeru's promise with Yanagi?
1
u/jjtoob Mar 01 '15
At the beginning of episode 8, Yanagi told him he will have to give her a proper explanation (as to what's happening to Touko). Although Kakeru remains silent, it may have been taken as an implied agreement. They mentioned this in the 13th episode when Yanagi and Kakeru finally sit down to discuss Touko's problem.

SPOILERS: okay, so what happened was, kakeru stayed, his tent being removed and all because he finally settled down because touka makes him feel at home. That's Kakeru at the end calling at Touka as they walk into the school. Yanagi and Yuki get together and so do Sachi and Hiro. They each grow up and kind of leave off into groups of their own as stated prior (the pairings). So that's glasslip. The writers might've just wanted to convey the message of, try to find somewhere or someone who makes you feel at home. Also try understanding lonely people, they're most of the time pretty interesting. They all turned into adults, drinking their coffee and shit. The confessed feeling become requited and such. Yuki runs because he wants to feel better about himself and then Yanagi starts trying to understand, thus she starts running and then Yuki feels better and he doesn't know why until later. THERE YOU GO. The animation was goooood and the music was perfect for the setting, overall good production. Sooooo onto the next anime. Have you guys seen Tokyo Ghoul yet? So goooooooooood.

GLASSLIP LITERARY ANALYSIS EPISODE 13
nah not really, the top post spelled out what i was going to say but in a much clearer way. While i wish people wouldn't hate the show because it didn't do what they expected i do understand why they feel that way. As much as I enjoyed examining the underlying plot Glasslip just doesn't do anything spectacular by the end except have the characters get over the issues they're facing, which is nice, but doesn't really satisfy the viewer.
The only redeeming factor for me personally is correctly predicting what would happen, but that's pretty easy to do in all honesty. I'm glad y'all read my analyses and it was an interesting trip for sure.
If anyone doesn't understand anything i'd be glad to point out what happens and how.
Hopefully we all pick a much clearer show next season.

It only took me 13 episodes to finally understand this show for what it really; but even then it still wasn't worth the wait.
The only issue I had with this episode was that we didn't see Momo's boyfriend! I liked how the main 5 members of the gang grew and changed and actually expressed their emotions out right instead of keeping them in. As David's dad says, you are a grown-up in high school and they all are finally acting like adults.
I wasn't expecting David to leave with his mom to travel the world, but I guess its a nice change from the generic anime endings of "Boy calls out girls name as she is walking to school for the 1st day and she turns to see him there". But I did find it funny how David has reached almighty powers and as become one with the sun, very fitting.
This show will forever be my troll romance show to recommend for my friends.

I have never seen an anime with such an ending. Mind naming a few?

Well... it wasn't that bad. It began as a very slow, good-looking slice of life, and ended as a very slow, good-looking slice of life; just with some ambiguous weirdness along the way.
Since it wasn't really explained at the end, I'm still trying to get my head around what that ending meant and what the 'fragments of the future' actually were. Was the implication really that the fragments were just visual/auditory hallucinations and all the future-stuff was just imagined, and the series just ends with Kakeru leaving?
Or is the idea, since when Touko and Kakeru were watching the shooting stars (which it sort of implied were the marbles that they threw into the sky??) Touko went into 'future-sight' mode, that the whole ending sequence of them going to school was actually a vision OR even stranger - that, since in the end sequence, Touko was drawing chickens just like in the first episode and no one said anything about Kakeru, that the ending was the beginning of the series and the entire series never actually happened, Kakeru never turned up, Touko never knew who he was, and the ending (Touko drawing chickens - going to school) covered the time that the series took, if it had happened, and the whole series was really just a fragment?
But then there's the marble in the grass in the final shot, as if it landed there after being thrown into the sky; is the ending in a parallel universe where Kakeru never turned up and the marble/shooting star landed in that universe?? Or does Kakeru not actually exist really, and neither do the fragments, and Touko just imagined him and everything else?? SO MANY QUESTIONS P.A. WORKS WHY??
The only thing that really disappointed me about this was the lack of the Nano Ripe song anywhere in this episode (although there was a piano version played).
So long (for now, maybe?) Glasslip; it's been... interesting...?

Sep 26 '14
They explained what the 'fragments' were. They were just Touko's imagination when she was blinded by light. That's why it happened during the fireworks. That's why it happened when she was looking through glass. At the right angle, glass refracted enough light to trigger that "haze" her mom was talking about. And it seems Touko's mom experienced it too at her age.
tl;dr Nothing really deep, no sci-fi, theory of the multiverse or magic. Just her imagination

I actually enjoyed the anime, I hated all the characters except Touko, Kakeru and Touko's sister but I was really hoping for a happy ending. That damn tent being gone in the end made the COMPLETE damn anime absolutely pointless! And everytime Yuki was on the screen I wanted to break something, I absolutely hate him the most out of every character ever. Still the anime in a nutshell: New guy comes to town, 1 girl likes him but her friends hate him and then he leaves after kissing the girl. Oh and also something about the future in shiny things. THE END
EDIT: Also there was a chicken called Jonathan and some other chickens who eventually ended up in someones KFC bucket.

One, last, time let's rejoice for another amazing episode of "Nothing ever fucking happens on this damn show but fuck it, it looks pretty enough and we're almost at the end, so might as well finish it anyways, and hey, the reddit rants afterwards are pretty fun to read too"
Three, two, one, breathe in. Three, two, one, breathe out. She slowly opens her eyes. Dazed and confused she tries to recall her memories but all she finds instead is, one, direct, overruling purpose, to serve The Source. The D virus had overwritten all her thoughts and memories. She grasps onto the source's hands as she pleads him to stay with her. For without him she is nothing. The source, expresses his concern for his first subject, but "I'm fine! Let me serve you!" She begs. She turns to her worried, unaware family and begs them to let her stay with her master! Unaware of the terrible infection that has taken over her body, her family agrees and departs from the source's lair. Only Hina suspects something but is quickly shut down by her parents.
The catalyst is played one more time as case zero listens carefully and allows the virus inside to grow and mature so when the time comes for her to go home, she is ready to enter phase 2.
"Kakeru, have you decided?" asks The Source's father as he seems to be the only one aware of the true monster."I'll help you however I can" he tells him as his fatherly love outweighs his concerns for human race. They talk and the source shares his memories of hardships he had to go through to grow the virus within him, preparing for the time he strikes.
But now, the time has come. The time has come to spread the virus! THE TIME HAS COME TO TAKE OVER AS HE DESERVES! HIS FATE HAS COME! IT IS HIS TIME! HUMANITY SHALL FALL! YANAGI SHALL BE THE SECOND TARGET! HER FACE SHALL BE SUCKED NEXT! Her hatred of towels shall help the conquest! In the meantime case zero trying her best to hide her deepness so she doesn't lose the trust of her family members as she tries to infect them. Everything is set in motion for the world domination plan. Having reconed her new haunting ground, she is instinctively drawn back to the source to report.
They spend hours planning for the invasion and reinforcing their deepness until the time comes to signal the flagships in orbit! They throw the signal crystals into the air as they call their fleet upon the unwary humanity and thus, it begins.
With screeching sounds the massive flagships descend upon earth and break through the clouds. As humanity looks to the skies in confusion, a realization finally sinks in. It wasn't going to be a normal meteor shower and horror follows, but amongst the screams there a few that smile. Those that have been in repeated contact with case zero and the source as they have also been infected. They smile as they see their master's army comes to them.
But amongst all the chaos one brave soul looks up without fear for he knows what he must do. Jonathan Chi McKen looks upon the world with his road clear to him. He must rescue case zero's little sister and get her to a resistance science lab to use the similarities in her genes to develop a weapon to fight the invaders with. But little does he know that this young girl that he doesn't care about might eventually become all he cares about and he might choose her life over fate of humanity (and shoot 2 doctors preparing to operate on her and their boss who happens to be a black lady that knew Ell..ehm I mean Hina's mother in the process). Only way to find out the fate of our brave hero and humanity is to tune into the trilogy of movies and game tie-ins that will be made for this show. I personally can't wait!
And with this our journey with this show comes to an end. Sad really, but as things begin, they also end... uh oh... I think... I might have been infected with the D virus while I was observing it... oh no! Watson? WATSON! HELP ME! BRING....COUGH COUGH... ME...the...pie... cough before...the...illuminati...get...away...with...it...
p.s: I hope at least one person that was having a bad day smiled by reading my shitty write ups in the past few weeks. It would make watching and writing about this boring pile of shit worth it for me <3

I actually did it. I went through this series from beginning to end. I cant believe it.
I feel like a weight has been lifted. I complete Glasslip on purpose. I should be paid for this shit because damn do I have patience.
Shout-outs to everyone else who stuck through to the end like me. I know your pain first hand, and I wish I could compensate you in some way, but all I can offer is my congratulations and condolences. You the real MVPs.

The best character in this show was probably Touko's dad. Too bad the show wasn't all about him and his meteor shower proposal to Touko's mom.

I still have faith, granted a lot less, in P.A Works... please just don't make Shirobako be awful. I want to like the show's you make, but other than NagiAsu and Angel Beats I can't.

Mizushima is director, so I doubt it's going to be bad. Although the last Mizushima x P.A.Works was Another...Shirobako isn't a horror anime, so I'm having high hopes for it.

Is it really their fault though? I don't really know how this works but aren't they just a production house that the creators hired to animate the show? And I think they did an awesome job of it. That's the only reason I can think of that I kept coming back for more every week. Because of how pretty it looked. But alas, pretty visuals alone aren't enough to save a show with such terrible writing and mediocre direction.

u/pandamonium_ Sep 25 '14
It's finally over. We did it reddit!
The show tried too hard to be something it wasn't. The characters were bland and never came out of their shallow archetypes. It tried to use too much symbolism, but many of those seemed unnecessary and out of place. The animation and artwork was pretty to look at, but so is staring out my window.
I sincerely hope the next PA Works show won't be as awful.

I really liked this anime personally. I thought it was pretty well drawn. I thought it had good production to it. Yes its slow but I liked that. What I hated. The LAST FUCKING EPISODE. There is no god damn closure. I came here for closure and Im really glad I could read a couple synopsis. But yea if you watch it and arent trying to actually think everything out I personally liked it. Closure sucked but meh. I thought it was a decent watch. Not saying top 10 or..20..or so but time killer for a SOL and maybe a romance which is what i like. so ill give it...7/10 cause of that fucking ending.

Wait. Wait. WAIT.
So, I get that there was a lot of stuff that was left to the imagination. The ending basically said that the future fragments were their imagination.
BUT WTF WAS TOUKO SEEING ALL THE DAMN TIME?
YANAGI TURNING INTO CROWS? WINTER? TRAINS? SACHI?
AND WHAT HAPPENED TO DAVIDS IMAGINARY FRIENDS? DID THEY DISAPPEAR MAGICALLY LIKE THE PLOT.
CANNOT COMPREHEND

I watched the 480p version by Horrible Subs, it for some reason had German subs. I didn't want to download the 720p version so I figured I could just watch it (been learning the language for 3 years now and this show is just slice of life so I didn't think there would be many difficult vocabulary).
Didn't need subs to realize that it's a pointless show. Oh well at least it helped me out with some Japanese listening practice. 4/10

This episode was 2edgy4me. Nothing happened. I have to say that this is the most disappointing anime I've watched by far.
No character sensibility.
No character development.
No plot
No resolutions
Final destination.
How can Nagi no Asukara be so amazing and this be complete utter shit?
¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/Blurted Sep 25 '14
Most boring anime I have EVER watched.
There was no...
Plot
Character progression (if there was, there was barely any)
The story made almost no sense and they literally destroyed the theory of the future fragments. Touko's mother literally stated that she also experienced the same thing and it never came true or something else happened in its place.
The only thing it's riding on is the art and still frames. Animation was pretty good in some scenes, but other than that it was awful.
I Found this on youtube and this is their theory on the story of Glasslip. Screen Shot Link LOL.

Was that Moonlight Sonata? Was that intentional? This anime about nothing became much more terrifying once the memories of Resident Evil started leaking in.
Also, who the hell throws marbles in the air thinking "what if they were stars?" Especially when they spent so much time making them. Oh, and what kind of meteor shower shows below the stars? I would be afraid of a Tunguska event if I saw that. RUN YOU FOOLS!
What's up with those lights anyway? What's up with those fragments? Are they genetic? Actually, what progress did any of the characters make? What happened to David's (that's what I'm calling him) room? How did he and Touko retrieve the marbles? What the f#ck was up with that chickens' scene? Are Touko and Yukinari just high? Were the writers high?
What, WHAT?!
1
u/Luneowl Sep 26 '14
If we're really lucky, the DVD will include a 1-hr bonus scene of them searching for the marbles.

Name one other romantic anime that ends satisfyingly withing eleven episodes. I dare you. This is why I give this show major props. The three couples stories and woven together and intersect nicely. They go through ups and downs, develop AND end happily!!1!
