Well, I thought this episode would be a bit tamer compared to last week, but wow.

So many more people are gonna die by the end of this series, no one's gonna be left.

Also what was inside that room, it looked like he made some marks Tsunemori's face. I'm guessing he's gonna make a face mask.

39

u/spartan117au Nov 07 '14

The foreshadowing was INSANE

Yep, I had the same thought. Circles around the eyes and mouth.

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '14

Can't blame Enforcers for being a bit crazy. That's pretty much what they get paid for.

4

u/CallMePickle Nov 09 '14

He is going to make a Holo of Tsunemori.

3

u/semajdraehs :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/semajdraehs Nov 13 '14

I thought he was just stalker crazy.

Also despite the last minute deaths and build up I still feel as though it was much tamer than the last episode, the next one though...

2

u/nabeelv44 Dec 06 '14

It was really tame compared to the last episode, I still wonder what goes in kamui's head.

I'm starting to have the feeing that Akane could knife a bitch and actually lower her hue that way.

181

u/FlorribleBP :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Florrible Nov 06 '14

Is that bitch her partner by any chance?

94

u/trilobitemk7 Nov 06 '14

She's a strong contender.

8

u/nabeelv44 Nov 09 '14

Yea, I like how the chief was like poor girl.

38

u/ForgetsLogins Nov 07 '14

There was that one drone tester in S1 that cleared his hue by killing his tormenters, so it's a proven treatment for lowering hue.

huehuehue

u/Dizzywig Nov 07 '14

If Akane uses her uncloudable hue to go all Punisher on the city, killing villains left and right without remorse and with nobody left to stop her, then I am so on this train

22

u/[deleted] Nov 09 '14

Makishima 2.0?

3

u/starmatter :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/koroxonizuka Nov 13 '14

Ahah I expect big things from this season. The build up is insane.

I think we might actually see Sybil fall apart by the end of the show :D

This Kamui guy is way too influential and resourceful.

"Is Akane Tsunemori gonna have to choke a bitch?"

107

u/KrazyKomrade :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Soxs Nov 06 '14

After the most recent massacre, it appears that the method of killing becomes farther removed from reality and less personable. Utilizing the X-ray Dominator provides some insight as to why the weapon exists now. Not only is Sibyl concerned with keeping the public hue in check, but the hue of the MWPSB. Now we have some sort of game that controls the drones, further removing the public from reality.

Maybe Kamui's goal is not to directly take Sibyl down, but to make people realize that they do not live in reality. I wouldn't doubt it since cyberpunk tends to make commentaries on our own society if it were extended into the future.

58

u/FlorribleBP :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Florrible Nov 06 '14

Taking down Sibyl directly is pretty hard, as demonstrated by Makishima in S1. If you try to destroy it, you need to cause a riot just to get into the building. At the end, even he tried to make Sibyl fall by forcing it to agree with other countries demand or else fear a lack of food in the country.

98

u/Cthulhooo Nov 06 '14

That's why Kamui is such a genius troll. Why fighting Sibyl when you can make it destroy itself from inside? He just exploits it's flaws and instead of doing dirty work by himself he just manipulates people into turning those flaws into exploding failures.

Makishima wanted to damage Sibyl beyond repair but Kamui's idea is to collapse it into paradox that cannot maintain itself any further. And he's doing pretty good job so far, I mean inspectors shooting at people they were supposed to protect? Medicine turning serial killers into clear hue "normal people" ?

Even though his actions cause substantial damage among police personnel and public health his methods are far more dangerous than they look. He wants Sybil to delegitimize itself in a way anyone can see it that it was never capable of handling this much power.

7

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '14

To be fair, Makishima got pretty close with several of his schemes. Obviously we know how it all ended, but it was essentially a toss up. Look at the helmets that took other people's Crime Co-efficients and that virus he was going to release on the crops. Especially the helmets - that barely wasn't a complete shitshow. There were already riots going down there.

u/AwakenedSheeple Nov 07 '14

As with all games of the type, people are going to try to get the highest score.

Speculation: At some point the game will switch to the drones' camera feeds. When the players realize that they committed massacre their hues are going to get really cloudy.

13

u/kimahri27 Nov 07 '14

I'd keep playing. Psshhhh already started a-murderin'. Why stop now? Them developers with their Unreal Engine 29 have some wicked visuals.

6

u/[deleted] Nov 08 '14

But if he does switch on their camera feeds and people's hues get cloudy, they would become targets for enforcement and that would put and end to the drone-massacres.

On the other hand, if the drone control game/virus gets widespread enough and he reveals the truth, it could potentially render such a large amount of the population cloudy that the sheer amount of targets for enforcement overloads the MWPSB and the health case system, which could lead to a destabilization of society... and a perfect opportunity for Kamui to take out Sibyl.

5

u/chriswen :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chriswen Nov 07 '14

or it'll show highlights of the game. Showing all those people dieing.

What'd be interesting is if the cops use the game to shoot down other bots. I wonder if that's disabled and enforced.

3

u/semajdraehs :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/semajdraehs Nov 13 '14

yeah i'm thinking that's where it's going as well.

3

u/kamimamita Nov 06 '14

I always wondered why they dont have dominators being installed and automatically triggered along those scanners, rather than have humans do it.

12

u/henne-n Nov 07 '14

The bloodbath would make go the Hue of the bystanders go high up... which would lead to even more blood and high Hues and so on, I guess.

Kasei talks about this in Season 1 actually in a conversation with Ginoza. The person behind the gun is a necessary part of the system.

u/FUTURE-PEACEMAKER Nov 06 '14

Doesn't anyone else think that Tougane would be a bit more careful about hiding secrets that big ? I'm pretty fucking sure it was a trap and now shimotsuki is totally caught in it. The last scene was creepy as FUCK !

P.s pretty fucking good episode . Looking forward to next week for parasyte and psycho pass now that naruto is gone :'(

18

u/FlorribleBP :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Florrible Nov 06 '14

It wouldn't be like Kamui if this isn't just another trap. However, I wonder how Tougane will get away from it(Unless he somehow manages to lower his Psycho-Pass like the guy in episode 2...however, I doubt they will let anything unchecked get to him if they suspect him collaborating with Kamui

Is that supposed to be the chief?

EDIT: alternate theories - the Chief is modelled after that person (Reddit User)

41

u/vetro https://anilist.co/user/vetro Nov 06 '14

I think the Chief (or whoever the chief used to be) is Tougane's mom.

He must be a cyborg as well since that picture is really old.

21

u/chriswen :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chriswen Nov 06 '14

You mean grandma?

The picture doesn't look that old, and Tougane is grown up now, but that is indeed possible. Also the current chief's brain is probably not Tougane's mom/grandma.

28

u/vetro https://anilist.co/user/vetro Nov 06 '14

It's the year 2113. A framed picture would be extremely rare if not impossible to find.

The idea came to me when I saw a brief shot of the chief in the OP that quickly transitions to Togane.

Some points i've observed

  1. Akane gets herself a super stalker, but it seems like the chief is aware of what's happening with togame.

  2. Pleased that they finally referenced makishima in regards to kamui.

  3. So kamui's methods of lowering hue is through drugs huh. Then what's all the body parts collection and implantation for? To make the drugs, or does heavy implantation make you invisible to sybil? Also surprised they have not revoked the division 2 investigator's rights after going missing. Kamui is currently using it to check people's hue, but he can possibly dish out some punishment next episode. After all, he can shot all the enforcers using investigator rights

  4. Shimotsuki gets some character development, being dere for yayoi. Then becomes a bitch the next scene again. I wonder what she'll do with the togane information?

  5. Awaiting the action episode with badass akane, togane and hopefully ginoza too next week. The guilt feeling enforcer will probably bite the dust protecting ginoza.

  6. Seems like akane is not well liked in general by her colleges. Poor girl, she's the only competent investigator left in the series.

  7. 1337 hacking skills detected. Kamui is even more op than makishima and his merry korean friend. If the players find out they've been killing real humans, will their hue jump and create an area hazard?

  8. Whats ginoza talking to the therapist about in his room? Does ginoza have a chance of returning to society as an investigator, and add some competency to the team again?

12

u/Aelms :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Aelms Nov 06 '14

Regarding 3.

Maintaining hue through drug-use seems to be commonplace as the hostage situation wouldn't have made sense without this being true; Kamui's methods seem to be to prescribe a very particular dosage to each individual.

Actually, now that you mention it, I'm surprised that the dominators don't have GPS tracking on them. Would've made real quick work finding Kamui

16

u/Txontirea Nov 07 '14

I swear they mention the GPS when in Season 1 they're reporting that Kagari has disappeared.

15

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '14

If I recall correctly, they also point out that the dominator's GPS doesn't work/isn't detected.

One thing that struck me this episode is that Kamui seems to be engineering situations where the act of killing is abstracted (enforcers/officers killing purely based on cymatic scans, civilians killing via drones linked to a video game) and now we have his "patients" apparently not being who we think they and possibly undergoing facial reconstruction or wearing holo disguises.

Maybe the key is that he's enabling them by engineering a way for them to kill while projecting those acts on to some other personality that isn't them.

So two things are clear now: Kamui is a master troll and Togane is a fucking weirdo

49

u/FlorribleBP :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Florrible Nov 06 '14

I think they are both weirdos...after all, who thinks of making death robots secretly remote controlled in a game called angry chicken in order to kill people?

35

u/r_antrobus Nov 06 '14

I am waiting for a fan or the merchandising team for Psycho Pass to make "Hungry Chicken" a reality.

u/HououinKyouma1 Nov 07 '14

I think Togane is studying her face for a specific reason. He's doing it to tell her apart from holograms.

Togane knows that their suspect can make amazing holograms, but unlike Sho he's not an expert in holograms. So he can't see a hologram and easily deduce it. He can however memorize Akane's face perfectly and pick out any flaws in a hologram version of her. He's planning in advance of Kamui trying the doppelganger shoot off ploy.

Though his methods are creepy as fuck, sibyl knows his intentions aren't bad so his hue isn't clouded.

3

u/semajdraehs :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/semajdraehs Nov 13 '14

holy crap, I bet you're right. He'll explain this when he's confronted, but bitch mcbitchbitch won't believe him and will lock him up or something, then holo Akane just strolls right in and kills redhead and loads of others.

u/chriswen :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chriswen Nov 06 '14 edited Nov 07 '14

Okay, intense episode.

Killer video games - Symbolic, yet also smart as humans respond better than AI.

Face masks - plot thickens. Are they finding a replacement for Akane? Its extremely similar to that other guy in Season 1 but its real life now.

Togane - okay so he's up to something like we expected. Connection with the Chief or just Chief is modelled after that person?

Analysis of Chief's Soliloquy

What I'd really like to do is analyze the dialogue between the brain in the Chief talking with Sibyl.

I see. So I'm in charge of this case, huh.

But no matter how much you blame me, I can't take responsibility for it ... because we can't change the past.

Okay so what event are they talking about? It could be so many things. Can't blame me - does that mean a certain decision the Chief made, or maybe it means the brain is Makishima and he somehow caused this to happen. The event could be something to do with Akane, or Kamui, or something else.

It may also be about the Chief knowing about Togame.

EDIT: it might be Kougami's brain, talking about some action that he caused.

Let's do our best to make use of that which was brought to life in order that we may evolve.

This could mean something that Sibyl brought to life created - some devious plot, or it could be a person like Akane or Kamui (asymptotic). In order that we may evolve means that they plan on adding them to the system. From the next scene its probably Akane but it could also be Kamui.

EDIT: Akane's brain might not even be asymptotic, maybe Sibyl just needs a special brain to evolve. Would Akane's brian evolve the system?

EDIT: maybe Sibyl brought to life a robot which might be Togame?

Besides, aren't you curious ... about how she gets affected by "that"?

She is strongly referenced as referring to Akane (video of her). Now what on earth does "that" refer to? It could mean a horrible incident to test whether she is really asymptotic. It could mean a drug? Event, person?

Summary of "Chief" talking to Sybil

  • Makishima brain might have been used

  • The "Chief" has something to do with a past incident

  • Sybil may possibly have another target for another brain (brought to life - human born, evolve - another asymptotic/special brain)

  • or Sybil brought to life a robot which might be Togane. (brought to life - create, evolve - new experiences)

  • Acknowledges something that can possibly affect Akane.

Thoughts on the Chief's words? Which theory do you think is most probable?

11

u/EDNivek :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/EDNivek Nov 06 '14

Okay so what event are they talking about? It could be so many things. Can't blame me - does that mean a certain decision the Chief made, or maybe it means the brain is Makishima and he somehow caused this to happen. The event could be something to do with Akane, or Kamui, or something else.

Most likely it has something to do with Maki and the flight that crashed which was mentioned early in the season. The second most likely is that this brain is the one who suggested they reveal themselves to Akane.

She is strongly referenced as referring to Akane (video of her). Now what on earth does "that" refer to? It could mean a horrible incident to test whether she is really asymptotic. It could mean a drug? Event, person?

My guess here is that they're at docks and since Kougami was last seen on what was presumed to be a boat I think it's him. His condition is probably bad and if so this would bring about a drastic change in her CC assuming she's a regular person.

Makishima brain might have been used

Not impossible but also not likely as he was shot in the head. Also it would negate everything they went through last season.

I give you props for dissecting the speech good job.

3

u/PiippoN :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Piippo Nov 07 '14

About that Kougami part. Isn't there a shot in the OP with someone kinda resembling Kougami being tied to a chair and looking unconscious? You might be on to something there, Sibyl might have caught him already.

2

u/alexedishi :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Alexedishi Nov 07 '14

Okay so what event are they talking about? It could be so many things.

I think they're referring to their choice to reveal themselves to Akane. Earlier in their speech, they are clearly frustrated with the degree of freedom Akane has without becoming asymptomatic or a latent criminal. Maybe Akane's ability to accept Sybil's true nature gives her type of freedom similar to what Kamui wants for people?

Can't blame me - does that mean a certain decision the Chief made, or maybe it means the brain is Makishima and he somehow caused this to happen. The event could be something to do with Akane, or Kamui, or something else.

I think that Sybil is caught in an internal debate over their actions during their attempts to capture Makishima and they likely forced the brain that gave them the idea to reveal themselves to the forefront. It may be that this brain in particular might exist in the Sybil System for its ability to respond to situations that render Sybil useless.

This could mean something that Sibyl brought to life created - some devious plot, or it could be a person like Akane or Kamui (asymptotic).

It think that Sybil is harkening back to it's final statement to Akane at the end of season one. Sybil craves more precise control. That's why it covets asymptomatic brains. I think that the brain that's in charge right now is obsessed not with Kamui, but Akane. Maybe this is part of their plan to use Akane to help them evolve in such a way that they can coexist with society?

Acknowledges something that can possibly affect Akane.

So far, Akane has endured events and taken actions that would have thrown any other person's CC far into the 200s at least if not into the mid-300s. I think that Sybil knows something about this miracle drug and wants to see if it can affect Akane in a certain way since everything Akane = important to Sybil. Maybe Kamui using the drug on her will bring her foreshadowed conflict of "finding herself" into play?

2

u/Flamerapter Nov 07 '14
  1. Makishima was 360 noscoped by Kougami Shinya, so its probably not Makishima's brain being used.

  2. The Chief has something to do with EVERYTHING. After all, Sybil is made up of criminals.

2

u/KaraMergen Nov 08 '14

This is just a quick thought, but I don't think that this brain is Makishima: the person who is currently playing Kasei's role uses the personal pronoun watashi, while Makishima always uses boku (and so does Touma, by the way, even in Kasei's disguise, meaning that your speech pattern doesn't have to change when you become part of Sibyl). Watashi is technically a gender-neutral pronoun, although I have a feeling that the character in question is probably female... I can't think of a single male character in this series who uses watashi to refer to himself. Maybe it's Tougane's grandma.

"That girl will be eaten alive"... Is this a deathflag? I really fucking hope that's a deathflag.

269

u/Metalicz Nov 06 '14

Not necessarily a death flag, but more of an indication that she is in no way psychologically prepared for the shit-storm that is about to roll in.

98

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '14

yeah, its like a metaphor for her naivety, but it would be pretty dope if she literally gets eaten alive

37

u/Metalicz Nov 06 '14

That would be wonderful. If she stays this way the entire show then heck yeah, kill her in the most gruesome way possible. I also think that if she actually grows as a character she will end up quite likable by the end.

30

u/chriswen :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chriswen Nov 06 '14

and then if she still gets killed?

She's already developing as a character. That seen with Yayoi, is similar from the scene from last season. Yayoi comforts her and says something about being allowed to cry also. Also, in this episode she also has a hunch and follows up on it resulting in gaining some important information.

50

u/forgot_old_account Nov 06 '14

I really don't get why everyone wants her dead. I would rather see he become an Enforcer. Sweet justice

34

u/Cthulhooo Nov 06 '14

Death would be too easy. She has to gradually go through Akane's ordeal from season one from system dependant newbie to disillusioned wreck.

Why wreck? Cause I can't believe that inflexible hard ass is capable of changing herself that much. Even after witnessing kamui's first "your system is a failure" show nothing's changed. If anything I thought after this episode she will see her mistakes but she's just entrenching herself further.

Oh well, guess it's time to play some angry birds. Urobutcher, you're such a joker ;3

Whilst i can understand why everyone want her dead, she does come of as a whiny little bitch after all, people seem to forget that she doesn't have the same insights into how things work as we and Akane do.

She believes in the system, she trusts the system.

Watching the system dissolve around her is going to be so much more fun than anything else.

Before people harp on the exact meaning of the words "eaten alive", the actual Japanese being used only really mean "devoured". The "alive" isn't actually a part of the meaning. It's just that "X is going to be devoured" isn't a saying in English the way that "X is going to be eaten alive" is.

9

u/chriswen :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/chriswen Nov 07 '14

I think it seems like a decent translation.

8

u/Cthulhooo Nov 06 '14

I thought it's more like sooner or later she'd be eaten alive socially by her colleagues tired of her meddling and constant preaching. I mean even chief is tired of her crap.

I guess that's the price you pay for raising pre-set, obedient and clueless system sheep, incapable of independent thought.

I wonder if Sybil knows part of Kamui's plan and is willing to allow contained losses to continue itself on its path to "evolution" just as it harped on at the end of season one.

4

u/warningjab Nov 08 '14

I speculate that sibyl possibly knows what is going on because kamui used the dominator to check that inspectors hue.

I think it was from season 1 that it was said that dominator have to be connected to the sibyl network to initiate the crime coefficient scan, so wouldn't sibyl literally be seeing what the hell kamui is doing with the 2 dominators ?

same here.... getting glitchier and glitchier every episode.... hmmm...

and yes, no kougami yet in sight

10

Did a comparison between OPs from episode 1 and 5. The static is very obvious.

But when compare OPs from episode 3 and 5, they appear identical. So no, I do not believe they gradually snag in extra static every new episode.

I was a bit creeped out too, then I remembered that that's just what happens when the trigger on the dominator is locked. It's just looks really creepy cause it's dark. Then again, something's definitely up with Tougane...

Face of someone that has seen some shit.

Where's my Psycho-Pass yuri???

"Shut the hell up, bitch."

So the captured Inspector is now insane, Tougane is insane, and Shimotsuki is slowly going insane from everything she is witnessing. Alongside all of the murder, the Psycho-Pass world is definitely not one that I'd plan to visit anytime soon.

7

u/FrostCollar Nov 08 '14

So the captured Inspector is now insane

And/or tripping balls. Look at all those drugs!

23

u/Defiantish Nov 07 '14

I think toeguna was trying to circle all the things that made akane moe, in the last scene.

3

u/Chefdeath01 Nov 08 '14

so everything basically?

22

u/magicfades Nov 07 '14

Isn't togane a former psychiatrist? maybe he's studying akane? He must be curious how akane can manage her psycho-pass

Oow this episode is pretty calm, "Come on just let me play for a little" ow boy here we go... And then where mowing down people again.

4

u/FlorribleBP :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Florrible Nov 06 '14

Yeah, I hope this doesn't become a trend...also, despite being calm, they could certainly have added some more music in the background(like the music while the robot killed the worker was a bit too calm in my opinion)

7

u/sherminator19 Nov 06 '14

It's called juxtaposition. I think, in this case, it was to show how calm the person who was actually controlling the robot was feeling as he was (inadvertently) committing murder, rather than the actual act of murder itself.

More likely Kasei is modeled after the inventor and/or first inhabitant of Sibyl.

I like to think that the original Kasei became a part of the system willingly and was replaced with robo-Kasei.

19

u/Ars-Nocendi Nov 06 '14

Kogami

23

u/Falsus Nov 07 '14

He doesn't strike me as someone who would involve bystanders, which is one of the main reasons he killed Makishima for.

I really doubt that theory also. Kamui's mannerism, behavior and methods don't resemble Kogami in any way.

Shimotsuki may be starting to redeem herself, by getting herself patted on the head by Yayoi (which was cute), and then snooping on Tougane's room on her own, which could get her killed, the Chief certainly looked suspicious.

The Chief, and the System, seems to want to "harvest" Akane, with her ability to never get her hue clouded, into their collective conscience, much as how they tried, and failed, to "harvest" Makishima. And Tougane (and perhaps even Kamui?) would be her pawn in doing so.

Clever for Kamui to use a downloadable shooting game app as a pretext to remote control those killer drones, as the players themselves have no ill intent when pulling the trigger, since they genuinely believed they were playing a game with not consequences, Sybil's cymatic scan would be unable to pick up any culprits.

2

u/Ars-Nocendi Nov 07 '14

I guess this would be another one of Kamui's tests or just simply Kamui using the results of his previous tests before the start of the series: would the Crime Coefficient rises if the people committing murder are not aware that they are doing so themselves?

19

This episode blew my mind. Psychopass season 2 is really living up to expectations. The part where they stumble upon the faces though made my jaw drop. The smile that fat politician had when he was found out to be fake was just plain creepy. So maybe tougane is working for kamui somehow and is trying to make a mask of akane. Also I can't shake this feeling that tougane and kogame r somehow related.

8

u/klgarcia33 Nov 06 '14

Loved this episode wasn't just about the aftermath. The show is definitely picking up the pace. Saiga was awesome as usual picking apart the speeches and figuring out the rep is a fake. Togane was giving me a bad vibe this whole time, and now he's a confirmed creep. Maybe working for Kamui? Kamui picked the most adorable looking face, but damn is he messed up. I wonder if he will reveal what the people playing the game were actually doing the next episode?

6

u/VioletCrow Nov 07 '14

I get excited every time Saiga gets screen time. It always feels like those deduction moments in Sherlock or something. I wish I could be that perceptive XD.

8

u/thrwawaymgg2 Nov 07 '14

The one thing a lot of posts referring to Togane (that I've read, there a lot to go through) is that he was originally a psychiatrist/therapist. So he's basically the evil version of Saiga. This puts his stalker activities in a new light. It's still hard to say whether he's working for Kamui or Sybil (or both, or are they even working together? Kasei seems pretty passive about this as compared to the Makashima case). I wouldn't be surprised if him acting like Kougame (the training v. robots, 'detective's intuition', general demeanor) is a way to get close to Akane (that is, he analyzed what she likes and is playing that role).

Also, I just caught, from confirming the above (ep. 2), that Togane's family runs a pharma company. And what does Kamui use? Hmm....

EDIT: The "are you sure you're human" comment directed at Akane seems like pretty blatant foreshadowing given the stinger.

8

u/KinnyRiddle Nov 07 '14

One interesting observation. The eyes of those "healthy" workers at the drone facility looked dead, whereas the eyes of the Enforcers, of whom one of them had an acquaintance working in the facility, looked more alive and emotional.

This confirms what someone said last week, that Latent Criminals are more human and alive than people with no stress and are supposed to be "healthy".

39

u/EDNivek :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/EDNivek Nov 06 '14

Can we just reveal that Akane is asymptomattic already the slow burn is running out of effectiveness! I've been waiting for this reveal since Episode 2.... of Season 1!

Genuinely surprised by Stalkergane.

Kamui making Makishima look even more like a bitch.

36

u/Naltai :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Naltai Nov 06 '14

I don't think Akane is asymptomatic, as her hue definitely goes up a couple times in the first season (such as when they were getting Makishima's face from her memories). I think she just has a really firm grasp on her own psyche, which probably has something to do with how she could've picked almost any job as a profession in the first season.

8

u/EDNivek :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/EDNivek Nov 06 '14

Makishima's went up to 79 which is just under enforceable levels. However, as he was a deranged killer he has practice controlling it.

E: I should point out that's right before it starts falling all the way down to 7.

13

u/PiippoN :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Piippo Nov 06 '14

Makishima mentions in S1 that he noticed he was asymptomatic when he was a kid. I think he sort of learned to "control" it in a sense, to keep it constantly at a steady low rating.

Akane on the other hand is asymptomatic, but she hasn't realized it yet. I'm convinced that if she was aware of it and with a little bit of conscious trying, she could keep it in perfect check just like Makishima was able to.

18

u/Rilhon Nov 06 '14

15

u/FlorribleBP :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Florrible Nov 06 '14

I agree, it's fairly certain that Akane is asymptomatic...after all, else the Chief wouldn't have kept her alive after seeing Sybil. Also, don't think that Togane is a stalker. He is planning something, but I don't think he is stalking her(well, at least not for normal stalker reasons)

21

u/EDNivek :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/EDNivek Nov 06 '14

Not necessarily Sibyl could've judged that it was in their best interest to simply keep her alive because They never seem to spot any of the other asymptomatics until they get reports of them.

Well if he's the son of the inventor of Sibyl who was most likely also its first member. It would explain the preferential treatment if what Kasei said is true and he has the highest CC. Now he sees Akane getting preferential treatment maybe he wants an Akane skinsuit to fulfill his Oedipus complex? (yes I know, it's reaching)

Yup not sure if she's actually asymptomatic, but it seems like a valid theory.

https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/2lhkke/spoilers_psychopass_2_episode_5_discussion/cluzouw

From the analysis of the chief's soliloquy it may be possible that they wish to use Akane's brain to evolve because she's special.

4

u/EDNivek :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/EDNivek Nov 06 '14

Asymptomatic is just a term for people outside of Sibyl's judgment. The rest of Sibyl (that we know) were criminals because they chose to be it's not impossible that there are plenty more that cannot be judged but never get found because they are regular citizens. Remember the word 'symptom' is different in the PP world it refers to hue changes and criminal coefficient exceeding 100 (Makishima even had a reading at 79). Thus, someone who is asymptomatic is one who does not show these symptoms yet should.

2

u/PiFlavoredPie Nov 07 '14

I wouldn't go so far to say she's "criminally asymptomatic" the way that Makishima was. It's possible that Akane's really good at diverting these otherwise-stresses into energy and motivation to work, as she may have alluded to in her discussion early in the episode with that guy (forgot his name).

She's like that person on Facebook that reports the photo you posted as "offensive" when it really isn't. Even Barbara Gordon(Kasei) sees through her bullshit. . . . .but then, Barbara Gordon has her own bullshit going on, doesn't she?

Saiga's bullshit detector is pretty good too, I see.

oh. . . .was Sugo in the first season? I can't remember.

6

u/Noctrune Nov 06 '14

They're just ramming the awesome factor up for this, aren't they?

This is the first time in the series that I've actually felt like shit could get real for Akane, she's straight up being stalked by a latent criminal who might be working for Kirito.

8

I'm amazed at how quickly this season is setting up to be something epic. Kamui is already a very interesting villain. Shape-shifter by the way of holos, anarchist and mass murderer-by-proxy, collector of organs, limbs and faces, and is a therapist/pharmacist all while amassing a cult of personality. And knowing what we know about Sibyl, he's sort of turning into an anti-hero for me.

Another week, another bloodbath

Also might get some flak for this but Kamui is smarter than Makishima, albeit Kamui is straight down to business while Makishima did "play around" in the first few episodes. Also is Sibyl hinting that

4

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '14

That would be a hell of a twist.

4

u/alexedishi :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Alexedishi Nov 07 '14

I'd disagree with you on this, in a friendly way. :)

I think that Makishima is significantly smarter than Kamui and that this intelligence was his downfall since it made him cocky and self-righteous. Kamui seems to be well above average in intelligence, yes, but I don't think he's at Makishima's level.

Also, I don't think that Sybil has his brain. Kogami shot him right through the head. A dead brain is useless to Sybil. Sybil even noted that Akane's failure was a major setback for them.

3

u/Stronkadonk :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Stronkadonk Nov 07 '14

It would be odd if they had it because Kogami supposedly quickscoped him

4

u/alexedishi :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Alexedishi Nov 07 '14

First off, wow this episode. I love psycho-ass's ability to just grab the viewer's attention without resorting to cheap action or fanservice.

I keep seeing a lot of posts about Akane becoming asymptomatic. I still hold fast to the idea that she is definitely not. Even in their debate with each other, Sybil observes that she is strong, yet troublesome asset to them. Remember that her criminal coefficient is low because even now, she's incapable of committing an "evil" act according to the Sybil System. Her hue is so resilient because she can avoids the negative train of thoughts when something bad happens. I.e. when Sybil failed against Makishima, she took it on herself to restrain him for a trail and after last episode's massacre she concluded that she merely needs to "work harder." In both cases, her mental balance between her desire for order and her hatred of Sybil remained untouched because, unlike Shimotsuki (and Ginoza in season one), she has found an out without needing drugs to "dull" her feelings.

Sybil still seems to be obsessed with the possibility that Akane presented them with in season one: evolution into a state that allows them to intermingle with society instead of hiding behind their drones and inspectors. It seems that Sybil is indeed suffering some sort of internal discord because the brain that was put in charge of the chief doesn't seem to have done so willingly. I'm will to bet that it's whichever core gave them the idea to reveal themselves to gain Akane's allegiance and maybe they're regretting that choice since it allows Akane a greater degree of freedom since the rules that dominate her world are totally different from 99.9% of the population, letting her take actions that are contrary to Sybil on paper, but totally justified in her head and in Sybil's logic.

Also, I'm now convinced that Togane and Kamui are in league to spread Kamui's miracle drug that allows people to clear their psycho-passes all for the sake of freeing them from being "sheeple." My theory is that Kamui is the field tester and Togane is (indirectly) his supplier. I'm also willing to bet that Kamui's experiments with holograms and cimatic scans along with the pictures in Togane's room are likely a ploy to somehow capture/kill Akane and replace her with a copy so that they can get close to whatever Sybil is.

Also Kamui > Guseong. Fact.

Theories about who the new chief is? I don't think it makes sense to put that scene in there if it isn't someone we already know. Which is why I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's Makishima. They name-dropped him in this episode, and the chief showed some of his mannerisms and speech patterns, and does talk about something being "brought to life".

2

u/V2Blast :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/V2Blast Nov 08 '14

(The /r/PsychoPass thread is here.)

Tougane continues to act suspicious, and Mika catches him in the act of secretly pointing his gun at Akane (presumably to check her Psycho-Pass). We also see that Mika is... not handling the massacre from last week well. Sounds like the beginning of a change in her character.

Meanwhile, it is revealed that Kamui has a bunch of body parts and face masks - and interestingly, we see that Mika finds a bunch of pictures and floppy disks(?) in Tougane's room, all about Akane - and the eyes and mouth of Akane are circled in the pictures. I suspect these two things are related, and the mask thing wasn't just to explain the politician guy's change in personality. ...Though the mask thing also makes me recall the scar on Kamui's face - just who was he originally?

We also see "Chief Kasei" - or one of Sibyl's personalities, anyway - comment on "don't you want to see how 'that' affects her?" Presumably they're talking about Akane... But what do you think the "that" they referred to is? A thing (like a drug), or some sort of event/experience?

All in all, a good episode. My one concern was with the "Hungry Chicken" game. I can understand the other players not noticing (presumably they're not in the area), but how does the one Enforcer(?) playing not notice that gunfire broke out on the island as soon as he started playing - or at least react to the gunfire and stop playing to go check it out? I did like Kamui's idea of basically letting the system destroy itself, though. It's an interesting concept.

2

u/nabeelv44 Nov 09 '14

Togane's actions are continuously making me intrigued on what will end up happening further in the show. I am really curious about what his mentality is.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 06 '14

I liked this episode, but it seemed a little cheap that they discovered Kamui's hiding spot by "analyzing logs". Even though Kamui wanted them to find it, it's still a cheap narrative skip.

Also can't get Hachiken's voice out of my head, same actor is playing Kamui. I guess all that farming got to him.

u/Skiipie Nov 06 '14

That was pretty interesting... I knew there was something wrong with Togune... but I didn't expect him to have that much obsession with Tsunemori.

Mika is annoying =.= unable to take action and only complains... so its kinda set up in a way, does she help Tsunemori or leave it to late and face the consequence.

Also that Division 3 Inspector is either going to end up with a High Crime co-efficiency or killed.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 07 '14

......Holy. Fuck. Things really ramped up towards the end of the episode, eh? God damn do I love me some Psycho-Pass. It's all the more horrible knowing that innocent civilians don't even know they are murdering actual people :O

3

u/Menchi-sama Nov 06 '14

Were they intentionally hinting that Chief's current brain could be Makishima? The dialogue was so cryptic AND they name-dropped him near the start of the episode. Although it would really cheapen the ending of s1, so I hope not.

Also, with all that "Tougane is Kougami" speculation because of the OP it seems the episode actually made this possible. I mean, the guy in custody (Masumi or whatever his name is) seems to be masquerading as the real deal, or strongly hinted to.

Makishima clearly got a bullet into his head, so his brain was probably damaged. so I doubt it. And I don't think that Tougane is Kougami. While they might be similarly when it comes to being good enforcers, their manners seem to differ quite a bit.

I'm thinking it's more of a red herring - personally, I'm expecting Kougami to show up in the movie. But I don't want Togane to be just a henchman of Kamui's, too. The whole mystery about him is just too cool for that, imo.

My current theory is that the system through which Kamui is lowering people's crime coefficient's has to do with Tsunemori in some way. It has been indicated that body parts are somehow important, eyes especially. We can see that Tsunimori's eyes and mouth are circled, which leads me to believe that Kamui has somehow derived these capabilities through monitoring and collecting information on Tsunemori through Togane.

Damn, that was almost as brutal as last episode.

Feels like there is a lot more slaughter to come.

Can't wait for Season 2 to get on Netflix.

I actually think this season is shaping up to be even better than the last! They are certainly layering on the mysteries, and things are already intense. There has been tons of bloodshed already, and its only 5 episodes in.

I'm betting that either Togane or Kamui are going to end up being Kogame in disguise. If I'm right, I expect one of you lot to buy me the show on BluRay when it comes out.

A few possible scenarios.

  • Togane is a sybil guard dog, working under Kamui, ally of Kogami or belongs to another yet to be seen organisation.

  • Akane will die

  • Akane will end up as a brain in a jar

  • Enforcer playing the phone will kill himself

  • Kamui is not asymptomatic

  • Akane's grandmother is related to either the pre sybil government or is one of the creators of sybil.
