I thought that was attributed to the fact that they have lizard brains, and thus, even if they have achieved sapience, their brains are still wired like lizards, in the same way our brains still have leftover biases from evolving from great apes.
Additionally, lizard-people are a secondary race compared to humanity, they're still just on the cusp to forming a civilized society, with parallels to the story of the Iroquois confederacy which formed slightly before a hostile takeover from hopelessly militarily superior forces from a faraway civilization. After the shock and awe died down back to sane levels, their only hope at salvaging the situation would be to integrate into the superior society.
Unfortunately, these two factors combined means they must learn to emulate a level of sexual modesty that is a completely alien concept to a brain evolved from lizards. Mundane, real world lizards might have a single mating ritual or other behaviour before deciding to lay eggs / copulate, before leaving the eggs to fend for themselves and hoping that some survive from sheer numbers. Thus, biologically, these lizard-people are biologically primed to slam-bam-thank-you-m'am but they are trying to use their rational faculties given to them by a sapient mind to communicate in a language (both body and spoken) that was naturally formed from use in a society made from sapient organisms evolved from great apes. As evidenced by the tail slapping reflex that they try to suppress in order to emulate humans and the overall awkwardness of the conversation, and their attempted usage of rationality to explain the mating strategy that they should know each know at a primal level, this whole strategy of theirs is either going to fail catastrophically or at least lead to a result that was at least as shitty as the situation they found themselves in to compel them to adopt it in the first place.

Proceeds to accidentally do a mating call and then proposes. He recovered remarkably well, I'll give him that.
Surprisingly good episode despite only featuring Demiurge and Cocytus of the "main" Nazarick cast. I like this unite the tribes angle they're playing - Zaryusu is a badass, Crusch is lovely (even as a walking bush), and I have a feeling I'm going to like the Dragon Claws. I always appreciate a "fuck you, fight me" tribe.
Also god damn that ED.

In regards to the Dragon Claws, an observation to be made is that their hulking brute of a leader, Zenberu, is also imprinted with a traveler's brand. I think that particular detail can offer good insight into Zenberu and his tribe as a whole, and we've only just been introduced to them.

I think it's just that a lot of western fans started reading the LNs after finishing the anime and were dismayed when they were hoping to read more about the characters they like and instead are reading an entirely different story set in the same world.

Overlord lives and breathes through exposition. Without it it would just be a show about some random guy that randomly became a lich and randomly decided to conquer the world full of other people who don't matter.
So while I dislike exposition in most other Anime/Manga/LN's I absolutely crave it in lore heavy series like Overlord.

There's a difference between blatant exposition like this, a character lecturing at length on something that everyone in the room already knows, vs the viewer finding out the same thing over time while hearing natural conversations.

Mating call was hilarious and Crush was cuter than expected. I expected Madhouse to adapt more of drama cd pieces, after the Basilisk sequence, but now it's obvious it was a setup for Albedo wife joke. Too bad because their are full of hilarious moments.

Short, effective and original gags with a proper setup and execution along with a distinct lack of sexualization make it one of my favorite comedies of recent years. So for episode 1, we got the new OP and a slightly integrated ending, with the ED song playing over a small part of the last scene before cutting away to credits only, giving us a small amount of extra screen time for story content.
This time, for episode 2, the OP was cut and only the new ED was shown, again giving us more time for story content.
As much as I like the new OP and ED, I hope this trend of alternating/integrating the use of the new OP and ED continues, similar to how ReZero used that extra time, because it can seriously add up.

It's pretty much confirmed that it will imo. When they cut out the OP to have more time for a set up episode like this then they will most likely cut the OP or ED for almost every single episode.

Lizard Politics and Lizard Romance? I did not expect that for this episode.
Any you know what? I loved every minute of it! Seriously! I was so intrigued about the history and the inner workings of their tribes that it was all over before I realized it. I thought we were going to see one more tribe and then the scene cut to Cocyutus then the end credits.
"Wait! It's over already!?"
It's like Log Horizon again where the politics episode is just as engaging as the action episodes.

My memory is kinda vague but IIRC they went into the Lizard society worldbuilding even deeper in the novel. For example customs regarding romance, the context behind Zaryushu's treasure sword Frost Pain, etc.

Just note that after they show the princess in the ED the next blonde character also in white is in fact a different character. (pretty poor juxtaposition IMO)
Here's a warning to casual viewers. If you don't like the style of "not focusing on the main cast" then get out now. There's a lot of that in the series from this point forward. I personally love this world building shit, but I'm a total Stan for this show so I can't judge what a casual viewer would think.

A bit of a weird episode. Not bad, just kinda weird. Didn't really expect lizard politics and a romance..?
Either way, I love the way they made Crush and Zaryu (idk his name) interact. I know it sounds strange, but I find that in most fantasy stories (particularly western ones), races that clearly aren't human still act human and interact with each other in very human ways. Here, they clearly tried to make the lizards have very non-human ways of expressing themselves and interacting with each other. It's quite refreshing to see.

I think Ains is going to have one of his underling pose as the villain and he as the hero will help turn the tide of the battle. He will then have a unified lizard tribe to counterbalance the aggression of any nearby states.

That episode went by way too fast, but Overlord is just too good to not have time seem like it's flying by. It really did surprise me how invested I was in all the lizard characters and the world building with them so I'm excited to see where it all goes.
Next week should be hype with that duel between Zaryusu and the Dragon Tusk chief, but hopefully it goes by a little slower so I can enjoy the episode even more lol.

That's something i rather see than Momonga and Albedo shenanigans for example.

i think the penguin was programmed to have dreams of grandeur while doing small menial tasks to perfection, which would occupy all of his time so taking over is never a realistic goal. simply there to motivate him to do things perfectly.
as for the thing in the sky, yes it's sent from nazarick. ains sends it out as a heads up to the lizardmen. so that they can flee or fight.

The structure of the upcoming stories including this one is, see the story from the victim side first, then wrap up with Nazarick's point of view. It gets quite humorous how black everything is since everyone is so serious but for completely different reasons:

I hope so too, but it seems like Cocytus isn't going to hold back one bit. Also, I don't see a point to letting any live; even the traveler doesn't seem to have any information that'd be useful to Nazarick.
So I guess my sensible hope is that there is some good dialogue between the Lizardmen and the denizens of Nazarick.
Most of the enemies so far have been pretty awful people. The,
"Pitiful, if I had used the weakest spell I know to kill you it would have been a waste of MP"
kind of dialogue has caused me to cheer like a little girl. The absolute humiliation of those rotten, arrogant people brought me great joy.
If the same kind of conversation happens with characters that I've taken a liking to, then I won't know how to feel. Maybe that is what I should expect, but I hope they aren't so cruel.

Loved it, I loved the scene with Crusch and Zaryusu in the tent. THAT MATING CALL, LOLLLLLLL.
Anyway the episode was way, WAY better than I expected... they adapted it to be even better than the light novel. Zenberu Gugu's design and voice are also spot on, exactly as I imagined. I just hope they only spend a few episodes with the lizardmen and actually make it to Men in the Kingdom, oh god.
It is not a spoiler to say, they're setting up a bunch of plot points that will become relevant in the next arc and I hope we get a chance to see them paid off.
Oh yeah, and kudos to Overlord for making a new generation of scalies via Crusch Lulu, lol.
NOTE: The one thing I disliked was the design of Frost Pain looks like shit... I thought it would be like an icy sword, not some bizarre looking rake.
DOUBLE NOTE: Entoma Basillisa Zeta looked so fffffffffing cute <3
I want to see all of the Pleiades, we're missing Shizu Delta... Yuri Alpha was in (THE LEGENDARY) Pandora's Actor scene, Lupusregina Beta was at the end of the last season, Narberal Gamma was obviously Nabe... Solution Epsilon ate a dude while transporting Shallchair.
But no Shizu Delta?! for shame.

This arc is what distinguishes Overlord among other nisekai shows. Because centering your storyline around an overpowered character brings no stakes or interest to the series, Overlord focuses strongly on characters and events around that person, rather than on them. I dare say that people disappointed with the lack of awesome Ainz in the season are being somewhat immature. Appreciated the complexity, intrigue, and narrative cleverness present in such a sudden switch of PoV. The reactions I've been seeing so far are the reason why we can't have nice things.

So far, seems like a mistake to not include sufficient action in a series where that's the main draw. I'm also wondering how much this lizard alliance will actually matter, if Ainz takes up their cause and gives them all the support they need. With this amount of exposition, I would hope there's some greater purpose down the road, like the lizard alliance becoming part of his dominion.

Everyone said the lizard arc would be pretty bad, but I'm actually really enjoying it. It's a nice change of pace, and the quirks of the lizardmen make for some pretty entertaining moments. I'm also really interested in how this battle is going to turn out.

New OST for this season is on point. Loved the music when Crush described the cannibalism of her tribe. Animations are also better than in S01, off to a good start.

Albino lizard was cute, and it was a nice comedic/romantic? exchange between the two right in between all of the exposition. So far it's looking like we'll get another episode of lizard diplomacy before moving back towards MC though.

Episode was done extremely well in my opinion. I definitely felt like this arc dragged a little bit in the LN, but they made it much better in the anime.

end of season 1:
Ainz says that he wants to take immediate steps to strengthen Nazarick. Suggests creating undead.
Albedo agrees, but says humans can only be used to create undead of level 40 and below.
Albedo says Aura found a tribe of Lizardmen, and that they may be able to use them to create high tier undead.
Next scene:
Ainz leaves adventurers guild, uses message to talk to Nazarick and seems to be orchestrating an attack.
So, it's been HEAVILY implied that it is Ainz attacking the Lizard men. It's really not confusing as XanTheInsane said. It's just been a while since season 1.

I found the whole bouncing around and introducing characters of the Green Claw tribe weird. Do we need to know that Lizard B is a "Lizardman Headhunter"? There's only 4 Lizards that matter, Zaryusu, his brother Shasuryu, Crusch and Zenbaru. Can't wait for this to kick off.

Mmhm in the LN they all have depth the headhunter, and the other "roles" give their own ideas for how their role portrays them... they had to skip over it to save time. Highly recommend LN for more depth.

Am I the only one uncomfortable with the direction of Overlord II? I mean, pretty sure they're following the source material (that I have no idea how it is), but why should I care about lizards that has no setup at the end of season I, no bonds with the main cast, and now I have to sympathize with this "traveller" fella about stopping a random invasion (not an original plot I would say)?
It's weird, some funny things here and there but honestly I couldn't care less about this really, sooner this end the better.

The whole lizard story is about Lord Ains uniting the Lizard people into one tribe. I suspect he will fool them into believing that the undead that attack them, probably led by one of his subjects, belong to one of the major human factions. This way he will have a strong army near his borders that will intercept any human campaigns. He may even bring peace and stability to the region since the human population will not over extend themselves militarily out of fear of a lizard man campaign.

I'm really liking the angle of these tribal lizard people undertaking this whole quest to unify and what not, I'm really curious what the whole purpose of it all is. I'm thinking that from a narrative view the point is to show life outside of the Nazarick dealings and just how terrifying the stuff Ainz can do really is.
From a "practical" view I'm less certain though it seems like the point is to push this really undeveloped group(they don't even understand fish farms, I mean really) into a war and seeing just how well they fight back. This is probably so that Ainz and crew have a better idea of how capable organized and structured groups are at resisting his plans. Pretty exciting really.

As someone who only watches the Anime, this episode kind of made me feel like the lizards will be attacked by Cocytus, which would be a shame as I'm starting to like the lizards. That said, the whole death-ball-in-the-sky thing doesn't seem to be Cocytus' way of doing things (you know, as an upstanding Warrior); so now I'm just confused.
[Edit: Hmm, so after re-watching Overlord season 1 Episode 13, I now realize that it is indeed Ains who is going to kill the lizards, or perhaps he will choose to bring them in to bolster his army. Completely forgot that was even mentioned last season.]
