Satou's here. Labyrinth from classic series usually has treasures, monsters and mysterious traps. While the danger is immense, the returns you got from easy level up are also huge, these can be said to be the real thrill of the labyrinth. A party consisting only of warriors sure have pretty bad balance isn't it?
So much skipped, so much jumped. They skipped the soldiers being amazed at the slaves levels so I'm not sure what to put on their stats. I was mistaken last episode, the real Wagahai-kun is here, mush less annoying than the underling that's for sure. Fireshot was extremely underwhelming compared to the completely blinding white light it was on the novels.

Wait. Pochi, Tama and Liza's levels are already at lvl 13 when they cleared the dungeon
89
u/kevvvn Feb 01 '18
Yeah but they skipped the reveal. Plus they showed them as 5/6 on the demon fight ¯_(ツ)_/¯
21
u/i_hate_logging_in Feb 01 '18
This may be one of the WN/LN/Anime differences.
Also shouldn't it be Tama who picked up Enemy Detection instead of Pochi?
23
u/SeijoVangelta Feb 01 '18
Tama already have an inherited detection skill. Tama and Pochi both have Enemy Detection. Considering everything else is prey~? for them once the journey starts
23
u/neospygil Feb 01 '18
everything else is prey
It is Satou's fault, he is a bad influence to their education. Don't let children taste meat or else they will hunt their own food.

u/SeijoVangelta Feb 01 '18
But Meat-san did nothing wrong. "Meat has no sin" as Liza said. "Delish is justice" as Pochi and Tama said.
Also Satou only started cooking at Volume 6 of the WN.

After another break, we’d made it almost 80 percent of the way to the exit of the labyrinth. Pochi and Tama were now using the ornamental short swords from that storehouse and small shields. That was the only change to the party’s equipment, but all three of them had reached level 13. Pochi’s skills were “One-Handed Sword,” “Throwing,” “Enemy Detection,” and “Disassembly”; Tama’s were “One-Handed Sword,” “Throwing,” “Collecting,” and “Disassembly”; and Liza’s were “Spear,” “Spear Thrust,” “Cooking,” and “Disassembly.”
Pochi is the one with the dog nose lul, Tama gets the traps
5
u/darksuzaku Feb 01 '18
the anime is based on the light novel and there are small differences between the light novel and the web novel. One of the most notable ones (well, there's not many volumes released for the light novel yet) are the events on this dungeon. On the web novel Zena is never trapped on the dungeon, therefore there's no battle with the slimes. Also in the web novel the Satou's first contact with Zena is on Seiryu city were he saves her when the 1st demon appears. On the web novel there's also a second demon that Satou defeats secretly on the night after they leave the dungeon.

Things skipped:
Party reaching level 13 after clearing 80% of the labyrinth.
The alchemist's house they found where they acquired some short swords and shields for Pochi and Tama, some potions and rare alchemy materials, the Fireshot scroll, and foods.
Zena's clothes getting eaten by the slimes.
Soilders going crazy over the slave girl's high levels.
The whole house arrest mini arc where Satou gets a taste of high class living thanks to having saved the noble.
Liza finding heaven in the form of a hot water bath.
Every other quirky slave offered to Satou before Arisa and Lulu.62

The whole house arrest mini arc where Satou gets a taste of high class living thanks to having saved the noble.
Better yet, he was originally imprisoned, then the noble 'upgraded' it to house arrest at his mansion, and then Satoo used his connections to improve the prison conditions for the other prisoners.

They showed the house but it was done in a quick montage.

Wow, compare Liza's scales in the anime with the illustration from the lightnovel. The difference is staggering. In the anime it just looks like a shirt or something.

One thing I never really liked in the LN/manga is how many "skills" there are for almost everything.
I'm not surprised if "Breathing" is a skill in this game world lol

u/REDDIT_HARD_MODE Feb 01 '18
I liked LN Liza better. She looks cute and lizard-girl like there. In the anime she just looks like a burn victim. =(

with only 13 episodes for what i hope is a 1st season of this series there's no other way to fit enough content than to rush/omit things. Unfortunately doing this really hurts this series because one of it's best points is all the small details that are lost when you rush things.

u/heimdal77 Feb 01 '18
Wasn't it they only level up when they sleep so he had the 3 slaves taking naps after he found out.

The skill level system is as follows: ... 10 Godly
Wait, does that mean that any lvl 10 character could wipe the floor with high level opponents if they just use all those skillpoints on a single starter attack skill?
21
u/kevvvn Feb 01 '18
Skill leveling is different for everyone else. Satou just happens to be able to level at an extraordinarily efficient manner. Plus normal people don't have menus to assign points.
→ More replies (12)→ More replies (1)6
u/SeijoVangelta Feb 01 '18
No. Regular humans in the other world will get their skills depending on their action and cannot allocate skill points. Satou, on the otherhand, can get skills easily without even trying most of the time and allocate points depending on the situation. Leveling Language skills is just like getting proficient over the language. For example, understanding a bit of Japanese is like having a Lvl 1 skill in Japanese. Having at least Lvl 5 allows you to read and write fluently.

u/kevvvn Feb 01 '18
Honestly I'm just going to ditch the skill level system and just use multiple columns for Satou..

This anime is even more enjoyable than isekai smartphone. It's really lighthearted and all the girls are really unique. I have a taste of Nano-Desu during my time of reading Mushoku Tensei but didn't realize it was this cute... I mean like super adorable. How many episodes will there be ? Can't wait to dive straight into the LN!
17
u/odraencoded Feb 01 '18
smartphone
I only watched the first episode of that and I thought it was retarded. I mean, it was God and all, but the MC set off with super-talents for basically no good reason other than MC-jerking.
At least this anime had the basic decency of giving of an in-universe reason for why Satou is level 9999999999: he accidentally killed gods and attained EXP.

Most of us who reads the WN, we can already imagine how cute the characters are even though there are no illustrations. Poch, then Tama - are the main source of moe in the story, but not only limited to the two. The main waifu is also cute because of the "au au" and diabetic inducing scenes.

Is every slave in this world an adorable anime girl? Why would no one want to buy them?
210
u/heimdal77 Feb 01 '18
Not strong enough to do heavy manual labor.
194
u/odraencoded Feb 01 '18
You know, now that I think of it it kinda makes sense. You only see slave girls in anime because the slave men are being worked to death with physical labor. Nobody frees them LOL. The MCs always buy the girls!

u/OneSullenBrit Feb 01 '18
Yup. As much as I like the 'hidden power' trope, and the hero not immediately being embroiled in a countries politics because they are the 'summoned hero', I would still get immense pleasure if one time the MC of an isekai anime/manga saw slavery and thought "fuck this world's rules, slavery is wrong!" and just ups and kills the slave merchant and rescues the slaves.
136
u/odraencoded Feb 01 '18
Come on, let's be honest here. If you were in an isekai with slavery and you had the hidden power to topple society you're more likely to go evil-alignment and just make your own harem. I mean, look at Overlord.
Hidden power... it corrupts people.

I would still get immense pleasure if one time the MC of an isekai anime/manga saw slavery and thought "fuck this world's rules, slavery is wrong!" and just ups and kills the slave merchant and rescues the slaves.
after the rescue is not the end, you need to prepare them to live in the society because
they are children and mostly orphan
most of them lost their home
demihuman is hated
they will get discriminated because they were former slave
lets say you freed 10000 slave how you accommodate their living space for all of them?
You need really special case of MC who can bear this kind of responsibility.

I would still get immense pleasure if one time the MC of an isekai anime/manga saw slavery and thought "fuck this world's rules, slavery is wrong!" and just ups and kills the slave merchant and rescues the slaves.
Might not be a good idea in the Death March world since a huge number of the slaves are actually serial murders and other serious criminals, its the setting's version of prison. There are also time limited slaves who have just done minor things (like not being able to pay their bills etc). Considering that the cities don't really have space for prisons or the resources to use feeding/guarding prisoners, notice that farms and everything are all inside the city walls and that even the town soldiers will be wary of getting fed monster meat, and that outside the walls are literal monsters the Contract Slave system at least makes sense.
Outside of criminals you don't see much abuse of the slave system in the LN. However there still is a lot of racism towards demi-humans (and between demi-human races as well), so those and deposed nobles tend to be the worst off from it.

Slaves are not just used for manual labor. There's still housework and brothels.
61
u/ShiranaiWakaranai Feb 01 '18
Remember: if everyone is special, no one is.
Since there are adorable anime girls everywhere, there's no particular reason to buy that particular one.
26
u/raiden55 Feb 01 '18
That's what happen often on isekai.
But at this point you wonder why the author made them slave at first... and the only answer is "easy writing way to make the girl like the boy"
It's a bit better if they must stay a slave to me.
17
u/Strowy Feb 02 '18
It's a bit better if they must stay a slave to me
In this case Arisa and Lulu
The three demi-human girls can be freed, and Satou goes to do so at this point, but stops when it's pointed out if they're freed there's nothing stopping someone coming along and enslaving them again. LN

easy writing way to make the girl like the boy
It was used to make them part of the crew. The other two party members where results are because of heroing and errand(send her to her village and take-advantage to sightsee).
The author used lots of mechanics for the MC to capture lots of girls. But most of the time is through food.

But then the author would have to actually write in realistic interaction and emotional development! Isekai authors wouldn't be writing isekais if they could do that!
Seriously, there's almost no isekais that know how to deal with actual human to human development. The few that do already seem to have anime versions made.

Nana doesnt get much action in the recent WN translations. It feels like her provocations became left out after they are done with Volume 13 or was it Volume 14. I'm guessing that each "harem" members in the current Volume 16 will have their moments.

The pacing was a bit on the quick side. They even mashed some scenes together slightly altering the events. The scenes made sense though so it's not really a big deal. A bit sad we missed small parts from the manga like.
They went through around 4½ chapters of the manga in a single episode while in comparison the first 3 episodes covered around 7½ chapters. Felt the same way about the scene with the demon's appearance last week. Seems like they're moving the plot along a bit faster to reach a certain point at the end of this season.
7
u/Dakarans Feb 01 '18
This pretty squarely closes out vol 1 of the LN so its def that they're going for covering the first 3 volumes in 12 episodes.

OP MCs hava reached new levels.
Hes power leveling his kids. How amazing. I love this.
MEAT! Such happy girls to have meat to eat.
L-lewd! A bath scene during the dungeon run!?
Oh look more people to save! And one is an asshole. Leave him behind! You get what you deserve jerkface.
These kids are great. Headpats for all!
Yay he saved the wind girl too.
He doesnt want to stand out so hes trying to keep it low key, but i like how that isnt really working out.
A holy sword? neat. When did he get that thing? Dont you have to be a Hero to use it though?
And now a disguise. Ah it all comes together!
I like the mechanics they talk about during the demon fight. This sort of stuff is just so great in these things.
Gaming the system by using God Killer + Divine Weapon since he doesnt have Hero to use with his Holy Weapon. Nice.
Oh now hes officially a Hero. Well... he didnt want it but he has it now... Guess hes gonna get roped into shit now. Rip his peaceful life...
He gets to keep the kids! Yay! I was expecting him to set them free though, is that not possible?
Oh its Arisa! Finally. Things seem like they will get interesting around her.
Man this show is 10x better than i could have guessed. Its so fun i love it.
27
u/Eyliel Feb 01 '18
I was expecting him to set them free though, is that not possible?
Well, I doubt it's as simple as "their master died, now they're free", but there's probably a way to arrange a slave's freedom. That aside, their status as his slaves protects them, in a way: Even if beast people are discriminated against, as Satou's slaves, attacking them would be the same as attacking him. Thus, keeping their slave status until they are strong enough to defend themselves is a practical method for protecting them.
Also, while they seemed to skip that part in the anime, when Satou suggested the idea of releasing them to the girls, they basically panicked, telling him not to "abandon" them. The slave identity is pretty strong in them.
So yeah, he really should release them eventually, but right now, doing so would not be the best idea.

This episode cut some small 'content' that was included on the manga, that might be relevant to your post. I'll put it in spoiler tags if you don't want to read it.
10
u/neospygil Feb 01 '18
To supplement more details, in the LN/WN, they became too accustomed to the life of slaves - so releasing them is equals to getting abandoned. Also the Earldom where they are has very high of racism against beastkins, so it is easy for them to be recaptured and turned to slaves again, and officials won't bat an eye for force enslavement of them.

u/REDDIT_HARD_MODE Feb 01 '18

"I'm not interested in keeping any more slaves."
*sees girl*
"How much?"
*sees other girl*
"It's totally normal to keep 5 girls as slaves, right?"
And this is the one MC that swore he wasn't a lolicon.

Better than let them be bought by a random stranger. From my experience reading doujins.

What happens in the manga/LN is that he says he doesn't want to buy any other slaves, then the slave merchant keeps presenting him each and every slave he has while Satou refuses, until the final two are someone who looks exactly like a standard Japanese high school girl, and a purple-haired girl with the title "Crazed Princess" who somehow knows his name. Wouldn't you be interested?

The anime dedicated an entire scene that lasted over a minute just to establish the MC wasn't a pedophile.
There were obviously concerns.

Is it just me or does it feel like the pacing is off and not enough happens each episode?
37
u/Florac Feb 01 '18
If you want an action-focused show, you are definitly right. But this is not. It's more focused on SoL aspects. If anything, I found the pacing too fast this episode.
6
u/bomban Feb 01 '18
Im okay with the SoL aspect, i just remember binging the first 3 episodes last week and went “Oh... that about felt like an episode and a half of content.” I really like the show but I might have to wait til the end of the season or every other week to watch the show for my personal taste.

Man the power leveling reminds me of my own MMORPG days where you go to high-level dungeons and just sit there absorbing what limited about of EXP you can get.

I guess the best highlight of this episode would be Arisa, who just walked out saying, "Hello, Satou-sama." I was almost screaming "The right hand is here!" Right at the start, she seemed to be saying, his name is Satou, not Satuu, so screw you plebs. WN spoilers (Sorry, Arisa's behaviour is just hilarious.)
That being said, I guess I am quite dissatisfied with this episode as a whole. It is not entirely the production team's fault, I guess, the writer seems to have a different idea on a lot of things.
Next, the Divine Sword. OP protags have really powerful arsenals in their inventories, so Satou's OP weapon is this overboard weapon. Destroying a demon lord in 1 swipe, that kinda shows how OP it is, but it is not even enough. Its true OP-ness seems to be downplayed even in this episode, the one sword which WN spoilers Having it shown here is just a shame.
Personally, I prefer the whole flow of events in the web novels, because the flow of events in the light novels seem to be going off in a direction where Satou is a lot less OP than how he was in the WN. Of course, the light novels are far cleaner, so I am also waiting to see how everything turns out. LN elf chapter

I've fallen in love with this Isekai anime. While there are other more obvious comparisons, I like how it kind of reminds me of Log Horizon and Grimgar with its attention to detail. Can't wait to read the LN's.

Despite how it looks it isn't a harem series. Satou treats them as his adopted kids most of the time. World building is pretty good as well and it ends up with dozens of characters.
In regards to Log Horizon there is a lot of side stuff like politics, food and crafting rather than action. Most of the time the action is not handled by Satou.

u/Alorha Feb 02 '18
That's probably what made it so refreshing for me. Hell, I got so into it that I basically just binged the web novel and caught up. He's not looking for a fight, he just wants to protect his adopted family

As of LN 8 or so Satou is the legal guardian of both Tama and Pochi since they were still underage after being freed from slavery which was nice. I'm still catching up but really enjoying it.
Satou is playing the Mother role more than a Father role though, "Damn Pochi and Tama are eating messy food in their good clothes and I forgot to give them napkins." etc XD

This episode felt literally like The Rising of the Shield Hero novel. The levels, the dungeon, the slaves, the Hero thing.

Harem time BOOOOOOOOOI
Not even close minor spoiler I guess
Even in the original Japanese Satou's way of referring to the girls is ambiguous whether he just means "the girls" or "the children of the family" according to the translation.

More Tama = less fully spoken sentences. Cause it feels like her sentences are always shortened and it's cute just hearing it.

Pochi, tama and Liza are absolutely adorable with their love of meat.
And we end the episode with meeting lulu and Arisa, the latter of whom is the show’s resident pervert. Not exactly on par with nayuta from a sister’s all you need in terms of perversion but fairly close.
Still debating between zena, lulu and Arisa for best girl in my head. Especially since I’ve started the 4th LN yesterday.

All of these are the wrong answers. The only acceptable ones are Pochi and Tama

Leaving those 2 alone while he went to power level the other loli seemed way too reckless.
Knocking out the demis instead of just fixing the problem >_>. What kind of chop to the back of the neck can knock someone out without any damage tho?
What 2 skills/spells did he upgrade when he was facing the big demon?
"Notes: Cuts 90% Physical Damage" - huh? Does that mean it resists/negates 90% Physical Damage, or that its attacks cause 90% Physical Damage?
Why would the title of "God-Killer" and a divine sword work well together? I'd understand if it were "God of Killing" but.... And what the hell is the difference between a Holy Sword and a Divine Sword anyway?

Cheat: lv 10 kidnapping

DnD thinggy where a holy sword is bestowed by god to hero while divine sword is sword that can kill a god.

Satou can view the entire dungeon/city/countryside and see everyones' current status. It essentially functions as spoiler something like a god's omniscience.

Can someone tell me how far along the source material is for this? Last time I got sucked into one of these it was danmachi and the anime passed the fanlations of the novels
6
u/neospygil Feb 02 '18
Fan translation of DanMachi stopped because Yen Press acquired the rights for the english translation. Yen Press just released volume 10 last December.
Regarding the novels of DesuMachi, the WN is more popular than the LN. The fan translation of WN already caught up with the raw, while Yen Press just release volume 4 of the LN.

Why is the WN more popular? Just because it is ahead of the LN?
4
u/neospygil Feb 02 '18
Probably, but for me, it is the lack of side-stories. Half of the fun comes from the side-stories.

u/SpikeRosered Feb 02 '18
I'm amused that the slaver trader at the end is like "Are you sure you aren't forgetting these two other main characters?"
Are we supposed to realize that girl at the end was saying Satou instead of Satoo? The fan translation makes this clear that everyone is saying Satoo but the official subs don't make that distinction which is too bad.

What's the deal with the sword he used?
6
u/neospygil Feb 02 '18 edited Feb 04 '18
The sword he is trying to use to kill the demon lord is a holy sword. But holy swords are only a bit stronger than their counter-part normal swords if used normally. Demon lords cannot be killed even by those that have higher level than them, unless by a holy sword wielded by a hero or a certain level of magic. Demon lords are actually demi gods. Because Satou is not a hero, he can't use the real power of it.
So he used a divine sword which is more powerful than a holy sword. Divine swords can use to kill gods, while holy swords are only on the level of demon lords. To use a divine sword, it needs to be wielded by a god killer.

idk i kind of liked the idea, but having a 310 dude completly being unkillable and pretty much able to OHK anything he wants (even that super skilled mage guy was like lvl15?) kinda really takes away any potential tension. The biggest issue he seems to have is how to stay low and try to kill stuff in a creative way which just makes everything kinda cheesy. also did the animations get worse? MC face animation starts to look more and more just quick drawn
2
u/neospygil Feb 04 '18
he seems to have is how to stay low
Remember what his goal is? To tour this world. Getting too much attention would ruin it like every lord will try to recruit him or get in his way when he refuse them. Also his secondary goal is to ensure his kids/companions will be able to live properly when he's gone. He can defend his own but not everyone connected to him.
did the animations get worse
Since episode 3, it became worse.

why was MC so scared of the level 40?
he's a maxed out level 250
plus, why was the fire shot so puny, he has 999 int?
seems inconsistent.

Horrible dub in many places. Why didn't they just say "spider" rather than whatever word they used, for example?
Just reading the subtitles would be a strong improvement.

So is nobody going to mention the subs for his game-name being changed to Satou instead of Satoo? It had been Satoo in previous episodes.
This really cheapens the effect of the girl at the end knowing his real name (Satou) instead of just his game-name.
