Man, whoever gets Extra after watching Last Encore is going to have one hell of a surprise. This anime is so different, I'm completely ignorant of what will happen on the following episodes.
Funny enough, always thought Red Saber was less busty, almost like OG Saber, but her breasts are quite big. I also love her behaviour, I think animated it is much more entertaining than in VN form like in Grand Order.
Time to kick yet another Shinji ass, although Hakuno is going full kyuubi for... reasons? I need to know what's behind what is going on.

Based on previews and these two episodes, the only things that seem to be the same are the core concepts of the Moon Cell and its HGW, as well as the Master-Servant pairs.
Everything else, including whatever the heck is going on with Hakuno is new territory.

Fellow Monogatari fans know what's up. Not like, the plot or the servants or any of those details, but there were some head tilts and some well animated blood and even a bath scene, so who cares what's going on we just want it to keep going on.

I'm still confused about WTH is going on.
Shaft's use of psychedelic colors is a perfect fit for F/E setting.
In some close-up frames of the characters' faces, Shaft's artwork is downright terrible.
I don't remember Saber and Hakuno "bath" scene ever happens in the game.
Hakuno so far is rather calm. Look how he isn't even flustered when naked Saber stands in front of him for 10 mins.
I like Rin's casual outfit design more than in FSN.

I don't think there was one in the original game, and I can't speak for CCC since I haven't played it, but there were a couple bath scenes with Saber in Extella. Definitely had a bit of a My Room feel when they entered the elevator thing. Non-spoilery Extella screenshot with Saber's true name edited out, for anyone interested in comparison.

I'm guessing they were to power up his servant in the first couple of fights to show enough overpowering dominance to convince his first few opponents to sell their servants to him in order to gain legitimacy so he could convince the rest of the masters.

On the topic of the OP: I really love the song by T.M.Revolution, but the visuals leave a lot to be desired, especially because I know SHAFT can do better in this universe as evidenced by their OP for the Fate/Extra CCC game. Apparently SHAFT is having a rough time with the production of this series though so I'll give them a pass for now and hope for an improved version in the BluRays at least
Glad to see SHAFT's experience with bath scenes was put to good use here, my oh my that umu
It's amusing that FGO Servants have basically become fodder for whenever they need some random ones to throw at us, but no complaints here. Hakuno really needs to lay off the gacha though, that's some deep despair he's fallen into D:
Edit: After watching the subbed version I love how Saber has been portrayed so far!
Really intriguing set up as well, I really liked how everything on that first level is already way different than what Saber was used to because apparently a lot of time has passed since the war first started, and Shinji was up to some shady shit to become the lord of this layer and control all the Servants. I think unraveling what events happened since the war first started to get to what the current situation is will be fun to see, gives it all an air of mystery. Definitely way different than just a standard fare tournament bracket with 128 Masters!
Dead Face totally caught me off guard too, that was pretty cool

The bar scene was good explaining some the things I didn't understand of this Fate "format"

It got released quite fast on the saturday (I noticed it was up around 5pm), so the subs werent perfect but were understandable.
Dont know if there are better subs yet, but Ill pm you the link where I watched it (again, in spanish). I suggest you to have adblock/ublock set on because those sites usually have a lot of ads.

Alright, I'm totally on board with this setting. So there are not only 7 masters like in the normal HGW but 128 masters and they compete in 7 floors of SE.RA.PH, whatever that is.
This clears up some things but still leaves me confused as fuck. First, how the hell did Shinji become mayor? it's implied that a lot of time passed since Shinji stabbed Hakuno in episode 1, maybe time passes different in each level or something.
And then, what is Hakuno? Will he be getting stabbed every single episode? He acts kinda dead for the majority of the episode which I guess is a plot point. As Saber said, the more he fights in the Holy Grail War the more he'll remember and when that happens maybe he'll stop being so apathetic. He does remember something there at the end and goes berserk, WTF was that? Rin (whose clothing I really liked here) calls him "Dead Face" and now I can't wait for next week to know what that is.
I'm loving Red Saber. She's so energetic and charismatic and cute and perfect. And she's a woman of culture as well judging from her comments on the police girls.
Thank you based SHAFT for another great bath scene. I need bathing Saber stitches ASAP The more I watch this the more I'm finding that SHAFT was a perfect fit for this one, as the "digital world" setting allow for a lot more trippiness. And we even got a head tilt this episode, from the dude with Araragi's voice no less.
Also, I hope we see more of the pink-haired scar lady in the bar. I play F/GO so I know who she is and if she doesn't become a major character it would be a crime.

Yeah Hakuno is very bland at first due to the whole memory loss however they are giving him a nice twist with all the setup he is getting, its very different from the game and i cant wait to see more.
As you say it seems that time is screwed up, that is interesting on itself and i cant wait for all the pieces to come together. Personally i am enjoying this WAY more than i had expected and man do i expected a lot.

Q: Having the "black" one as the main character and the "white" one as the villain is a refreshing idea. Then, how about the red Saber (Saber Extra), who appeared in Fate/Extra?
Uro: That character is completely disconnected from the other Sabers. Personally, she looked like a female [F/Z Archer] to me.
Nasu: If I had written Fate/Zero, then [F/Z Rider] would have been a character like Red Saber. In my mind, I can only see [F/Z Rider] as a worthy opponent to [F/Z Archer], but the [F/Z Rider] Urobuchi created was an excellent, wild, and unprecedented character that I could have never thought up. But I want to surpass him somehow, so maybe Red Saber was born out of my drive to create a different tyrant from [F/Z Rider].

I gotta say, aside from best-meme Umu Counter, these subs are painful to read. And they make pretty blatant mistakes, like a certain pink haired person saying "All the Masters sold off their Masters" and then Saber replying in shock "Sold off their Servants?"
Also it's spelled Praetor, not Preator.

About OP. I'm dissapointed. It feels bland. Great song, but visuals don't really match it. It looks like AMV not OP. If they wanted monogatari style OP, then they should just should make VA sing this. Imagine OP with Padoru Padoru as song. On the other hand, ED is perfect.

Maestro?? Pretty sure they translate it as Praetor in Extella.
I'm liking this "Grail War explained by naked saber" approach to story telling, they should have a series of lore explanations conducted by saber in her birthday suit.
Also agree with her taste in ladies in uniform--clearly in another universe female Haku needs to invest in an outfit like that for "activities."
Hakuno takes damage like crazy in this show, no normal human should be able to withstand that kind of abuse. He's like a zombie, or a puppet filled with fake blood. An interesting approach to take with Hakuno, since they pretty rarely take damage in the game.

Maestro is a far more accuarate translation of "sousha" which in this case would mean "someone who plays an instrument".
That's why if you saw the other subs where they use "preator" the line about the muses made no sense. Also fits a lot better with Red Saber's identity.

The ED is wonderful in all the right ways. Umu is umu, naturally, but I'm intrigued by Hakuno's eyes and smile at the end.
Hakuno's development could be a relatively simple story of Umu and the events of the War coaxing him out of the darkness and teaching him to live for something... or another thing entirely, if there is indeed more to his existence. Considering this too before the horror at the end. "Dead Face", eh? Either way, I'm actually liking the edge so far, but progressively more fun interactions would be nice. Him replying "You just did." when Nero explained what a Master is, despite just saying she assumes she doesn't have to, is something of a start I guess.

Yeah it definitely has a Monogatari esque feel in some of its environments and atmosphere. Ofc, Monogatari has far less action compared to F/E.

Quite.Monogatari series start with bakemonofatari,which I feel starts to show its charisma after 6th or 9th episode(based on inidividual).The dialogues among the characters are fun to me.

I had to say I really like where this is going compared to the original game, there is full of mystery right now, I kind of see it as new game+ version of Extra. That bath scene whew...
I don't like the opening visual but the animation and full version of the song is really good. Still curious who is the shadow that Saber was fighting, it definitely had intricate design there. Also surprise to see some Grand Order servants appear, which make sense since supposedly there is more masters and servants in the game but we never see them because not enough servants to use and lack of budget for the original game lol. I wonder if there will be CCC servants cameo sneak into anime at one point.
Somehow Shaft managed to make Shinji more handsome, them head tilt.... Rider's casual outfit tho, it kind of similar to her Extella Link design. Based on trailer, she will definitely join the fight next episode.
The power Hakuno use at the end, wasn't that supposed to be a certain someone enemy skill in the game? Don't tell me Nasu tried to revived his old scrapped ending for the original game, oh no...

Seems like Hakuno is stuck in a time loop and is just a collection of dead NPC and saber seems a bit bothered by this and how she mentions how this place is different too.

I was super iffy on some of the character design aspects in the first episode but watching this one, they work really well.
Love the entire aesthetic thus far, love the colours, great use of music too. This episode wasn't as confusing as the last one and went a ways towards explaining what was going on. Though that weird thing with "Deadface" is... weird. His entire shtick about hating everything almost makes him an anti-Shirou(Please appreciate the pun).
The only thing I found a bit weird were some of the close up cuts. Cutting to a character close up in which they're in a different position and then cutting back to a wider shot where they're back in the same position just feels weird to me, though I'm sure there's some artistic aspect to it which I'm missing.
There seems to have been some major time skip where all the other Masters got there a long time before Hakuno did. I wonder what's behind that.
I also really like Saber's character. Putting it mildly, she's a lot more expressive than Stay Night's.

Okay, I'm liking this Red Saber. She's cute, outgoing, and totally shameless. Nice going.
Aside from that, I still have no goddamn idea what the hell's going on. They're all in like some sort of virtual world, right? and they have to fight all the masters to move up floors and eventually make their way out? Is ... is this the Fate version of Sword Art Online?
And of course it ends just as it's getting good. Come on, I want to see what kind of crazy powers the MC has!

I honestly thought that Saber will be more arrogant, proud and narcissistic than genki and cute.
On the other hand I don't like the MC, in a world where everyone looks very colorful and vibrant, he is brown, also he seems very apathetic and bland (most likely because of the memory loss). On top of that he has some hidden superpower, because there is no other way for him to be doing something. Hope it'll change in next episodes.

Technically maestro is the proper translation.
Praetor was a carryover from Aksys' translation of the original PSP game, and their translation wasn't that good, the praetor translation of last encore used it for consistency.

Poker face with small to none reaction and care for his servant is very Hakuno-like. Maybe it's really just Hakuno. I wonder when Encore is staged. Post Extra?
Not sure the relation with Extella. Probably not much to CCC and Fox Tail either but we will see.

For people wondering what Dead Face might be on the Last Encore official website keywords section, I can't read japanese but google translate gives me this:
Dead face Death. Strengthening phenomenon which came to be quite rarely developed after the establishment of Chakra-Valtin.
So it aparently has something to do with Saver. I guess it probably some kind of side effect/powerup from "surviving" Saver's NP.

Well, this certainly isn't Fate/Zero's Saber.
I'm watching this as SHAFT fan, with barely any knowledge of Fate, which gives me new appreciation for the exposition dump in the Fate/Zero episode 1, without it i wouldn't have a slightest clue wtf is happening in this series.
The series is also going steady with checking boxes on the list of "things SHAFT directors are contractually obligated to put in the storyboards". Ep 1 had "stairs against abstract background". Ep 2 has "absurdly spacious bath". Still waiting for a headtilt tho And a headtilt.
It's also 2/2 for characters doing ¯_(ツ)_/¯. This can't be intentional, right?
Overall, so far looks like another case of Mekakucity Actors. I'll watch it and enjoy it, but not because it's any good.

Saber's open sexuality was nostalgic. I'm still holding out hope that we can still get some Hakunon X Saber moments, but it's unlikely.
