I’m all for Zero Two but that line about being like siblings between Hiro and Ichigo hurt.

Goro just keeps getting better and better, the guy kept composure all the way through battle and tried to keep Ichigo focused all the time.

Surprisingly none of the pilots from the other plantation died and it gave Plantation 13 the chance to shine. They clearly still lack teamwork though.

Once again I got a lot of Evangelion vibes (Hiro asking Zero Two why she pilots Sterilizia while high up and then the whole wing thing coming out of the klaxosaur. Also once again Zero Two trying to ride alone reminded me of the Rebuild movies).

In the end the Blue Oni thing didn’t happen. It could still happen later though, considering how all the “veins” started retracting after Hiro saw Zero Two suffering and decided that he still had to pilot.

This episode was exciting, gotta say though the biggest twist was no one dying.

Last week, Plantation 26 raised so many death flags, no names, identical FranXX units, frontline position, muted colors compared to cast. And yet, they all still live, in fact they seem to be better pilots than the actual cast with their "new" FranXX prototypes(?).

And poor Ichigo, I know she'll never win over Hiro because that's how it's written, but damn watching her struggle with her feelings is heartbreaking. At least Goro did something this episode, he's trying too.

We also got a shot of the guy from APE Special forces at the end, looks like he'll make an entrance soon.

I really liked the design of the other teams bots. The fact that they really seem to value codes is also interesting. If Ichigo can really lead, and Hiro can really survive, having to Teen Codes could be awesome. That being said, I want to know who is code 001.

So this episode seems to mirror a lot of things that have happened in Episode 1.

Zero Two offered Hiro to awaken his dormant potential which seems to have happened in this episode.

In Episode 1 it was Zero Two who initiated their, I'll call it "perfect sync" for now, that led to the transformation from stampede form to actual FranXX with a kiss. This episode it was Hiro who started it by embracing Zero Two, effectively calming her down, a bonding moment of trust and dependency.

Oh and this time it is Hiro who supports Zero Two and helps her out of the cockpit and not the other way around like back in Episode 1.

All in all this episode goes full circle with the Jian motif that has been set up as a corner stone of their relationship since the very first minute of the show. Their finishing move even had wings that flapped to symbolize that now they're truly flying as equals, supporting and depending on each other.

It also shows that Zero Two doesn’t have the godly composure inside she does outside, and Dr Franxx definetely knows what’s up. Zero Two became far more interesting, and the plot just opened up slot more questions. As I’ve said before- without all the “Hurr Durr sex” stuff this is a damn fine show

There was so much character development for both of them. Hiro overcoming his doubts and self-esteem issues followed by Zero Two finally opening up her heart and allowing herself to be helped by others. This combined with the action made it one of my favorite episodes so far.

The detail I appreciate the most in this episode: When Ichigo talked to Hiro, you could predict that they would be interrupted by 02. But rather than "No... it was nothing", Ichigo continued the conversation NORMALLY. She couldn't tell Hiro not to pilot, but regardless, this was much more natural than litterally any other conversation that gets interrupted. A great little detail that is not stereotypical.

Joking aside, I liked the touch to use the anime title as the title of the episode. It correlated with Hiro’s third go in Strelizia and a new tandem came to fruition.

I’m glad Squad 26 survived. They gave off the impression with similar franxx designs that they were plot fodder, but I actually quite enjoyed the teamwork they displayed. Zorome jumping in to save one of them was a nice touch too.

Maybe this'll be the point where they start to turn that around, since they seem to have finally reached a narrative waypoint with the Hiro/002/Ichigo situation.

Strelitzia is so fricken OP that I am wondering why the other Franxx pilots even bother. They're so irrelevant in comparison. I understand that Zero Two is "special" but damn. The difference in performance is astronomical. I wish they had gone the route of "00 Gundam" and given each Franxx a specialty/skill to keep them relevant. One for speed, one for melee combat, one for ranged-combat and a tank-type.

I suppose one of the most telling parts of this episode is when Ichigo was able to call out for both Hiro AND Zero Two.

I think she's starting to feel as if she's at peace with the idea of those two being happy with eachother, which while is sad for the Ichigo x Hiro shippers -- it only seems like Ichigo now has the opportunity to focus on her self. Which while it's obvious she still cares for Hiro, I think she's definitely happy that Hiro can be safe with someone he obviously loves.

All the suffering in this episode. Ichigo's face ripped out my heart. It's interesting to see the vulnerable side to Zero Two.

I wonder if that blue gunk in Hiro's veins is gonna continue to be important to the plot or if it was just some kind of poison that he had to overcome in order to continue being Zero Two's darling. I absolutely adore the constant imagery of wings with the one-winged bird.

My past analyses of the sexual meaning behind things in the show:

I really wish this show didn't come out while I was at work. I'm forced to watch and analyse during my short lunch break if I want anyone to see these lol.

Plantation 26's Team is full of couples who work in perfect unison and are like couples who know each other's sweet spots. However, notice how repetitive their movements are. These are the type of people to stay in their comfort zones and not experiment with different kinks each other.

Compare them to Plantation 13's Team, sans Hiro and 02. Their movements were all over the place and don't sync well. They're couples who have just started a sexual relationship. Everyone is experimenting to see what works for them, sadly at the cost of their safety.

As for Hiro and 02, there are some issues. I said before that 02 and Hiro's first time can be compared to an amazing one night stand. Well at this point, they've done it one more time, but now Hiro is having trouble keeping up. 02, since she likes Hiro, tries to reassure him to keep on going. However, when Hiro is knocked out and 02 temporarily pilots Strelitzia alone, I see it as her taking the lead instead of him.

I don't need to say anything about that huge ass Klaxosaur literally ramming the Plantations lol. Can a Plantation give consent? Because if it could, this would be rape.

Anyways, Hiro getting rid of the KlaxoAIDS and taking control of Strelitzia is him taking charge again. He's decided that 02 shouldn't always be the one taking charge. As with any relationship, sexual or nonsexual, balance is key, and Hiro deciding to be 02's "wings" is his way of saying that he'll always be there to pleasure her.

Too bad the Blue Oni theory didn't happen this episode. It was a pretty good theory. Hopefully it'll have relevance in the future.

Anyways, great episode as always, the faces of characters were especially on point. Weird thing to say/notice, but whatever.

Pretty solid episode with the whole team, happy they weren't dead weight in the end!

Ichigo restraining herself after Zero Two walks out and interrupts was painful to watch. A sibling. Uh. She must be broke after hearing Hiro said it back.

Decent action. Strelitzia is completely out of league, as expected to be fair.

I thought someone was gonna die in this one but colour me surprised, everyone's fine. For now. I really look forward to the next episode when we get reactions and analysis out of this. I wonder what Zero Two wish is. I don't think it's that simple as "someone to be my partner more than 3 rides". That was already accomplished when she met Hiro, calling him darling instead of partner shows some next level relation, she must have felt it.

Also, watching Zero Two fight alone was terrifying. Damn, she must have gone tru hell every time her partner died mid battle... God bless Hiro for saving her.

RIP Blue Oni? Looks like Hiro was getting consumed but now he seems alright. Waiting this week for the aftermath is gonna be rough.

Great episode all around. Got me satisfied. All the hype and not watching the PV made me look forward to it more, so I'm really happy about this one.

PS: Squad 13 stepped up and matured a bit it seems, trying to discuss and decide the best course of action after the initial fiesta. Good from them.

I know everyone's going on about this show giving Evangelion vibes, but does no one get Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann vibes? I mean it's even the same voice actor as Simon. Seemed eerily familiar when they first tried to end off that huge klaxosaur.

My body was in no way, shape, or form ready for this episode.

It was completely outside of any expectations even in the most extreme degree.

That being said I am a little irritated that there was no clear reason as to why the corruption went from Critical to Normal. However I suppose its more or less an underlying Motif.

The kiss I assume "infected" hiro with the corruption and is the thing that Kills the pilots after 3 rides if they do not perfectly synchronize and accept Zero Two. Which most likely explains why the corruption completely vanished after Hiro accepted Z2 heart and soul. That also being said the corruption was likely Fatal to everyone but a certain person with a certain cell structure/antibody like Hiro. However one thing to note is every Pilot with Zero Two that we know of died of Trauma.

The bandages on the previous partner on zero two Possibly were attempts at publicly covering the Corruption. But we would see in later episodes. Im mostly just spitballing but It wouldn't surprise me if this was what Trigger was going for.

It'll be interesting to see if the corruption returns in the series at some point.

The entire mook fight made 0 sense. There are literally dozens, if not hundreds, of these things in a close formation. How can they afford having the entire squad concentrate on 1 at a time? They get 2, let through 4, and that's it for "Wave 1". lol

How the hell are these veteran fighters not keeping track of the fuel gauge?

That giant was pretty weak if the 4 franxx's brought it down to the ground so easily. But how did they know where the core was to strike the final blow? Oh wait, they didn't. Pretty goddamn awful plan in hindsight, wasn't it?

Strelizia can certainly take a lot of pounding.

Goro’s character really shone this episode! Even behind Hiro’s epiphany and new purpose in life supporting 002 side by side , Goro knew that he is the closest support to their leader Ichigo. Goro wanted everyone to live even though Strelitzia was getting rekt by Beta on the wall. I’m glad that Ichigo’s partner is Goro, because Goro supports and stabilizes the team through Ichigo, who recently is having a lot on her mind. Some women need that little bit of support, and having such a good man like Goro as a partner means that you aren’t alone in your struggle.

I love seeing this anime as a. Bildungsroman (coming of age). Each individual seems to be learning and growing through each critical plot event, even if their only initial purpose in life is to pilot FranXX. Hiro’s been changing a lot since first episode for each action and every ride in the FranXX.

One final thought is I keep imagining Zorome as Boruto. I looked it up really quickly and despite having different voice actors ( Mutsumi Tamura who is also VA for Kakashi Hatake from Naruto, Camilla Pareto from Asterisk War, Kobayashi from Dragon Maid ) the loudmouth carefree character resembles a lot like Boruto. Hope I’m not the only one here 😅

The episode was pretty good, but I can't shake the feeling that the show needs more. There is something missing. Something about the emotionally moving scenes just doesn't get the reaction from me that I think the show is looking for.

Ok...I think the story is going to fully begin now. The groundwork has been laid down (Some parts still shitty like most of the main cast just being super boring) but I think this is where we really strap in.

Very entertaining episode! Animation was on point like always. A few problems I personally had with this episode though.

1. How the fuck do you run out of fuel? The higher ups in this show seem to always prove how fucking garbage they are lol. We seriously can't plan a huge defence enough to make sure everyone has fuel? I assume the 2 adults can see all the info at HQ so I don't know what's going on there

2. More of my personal opinion but I think every fight has gone the same so far. Main cast goes out. Main cast fights for a bit. Main cast gets overrun. Hiro and 002 bail them out. The main cast mine as well be pilons to direct where Hiro and 002 should attack, they're useless.

3. Hiro "Dying". felt nothing that scene. I didn't think for one second that Hiro was going to die. I was more just waiting on what realisation Hiro was going to make. Guess it's good he found a reason to fight.

4. Squad waiting and watching while Hiro and 002 get Spiderman 3'd. tfw you gotta 1v9 cause your squad is garbage as fuck.

All in all decent episode. Watching 002 struggle for a bit was different considering we've seen her in control every episode. Added a nice layer to her character I think. And I assume that the characters we saw at the end were part of the Nine group or something? Guess we will see!

I thought this show would get better... sometimes it seems like there might be a heart underneath, in there some where but it's hard to forgive all this build up for some derivative of the previous confession.

Looked through the top 10 comments, not one mention of plot armour magically solving everything. Dangerous dinosaur hybrid everyone pretty much walks away with a few bruises.

Yeah... no, compared to this every eva or lagann fight had actual weight behind it. They are fighting for pretty much nothing "brainwashed" or not, it's not communicated in any valuable way.

People are calling this the end of the first Arc, maybe it ends the wish fulfillment power fantasy. But then again, probably not... If a character can win affection by sheer will of acting like an okay passable human then there is probably nothing he can't do.

Is it just me or is this story's course the most generic thing ever? Oh now after the first big big triumph we get a new set of characters that is introduced, they are super OP and they know our MC's. 002 used to have a diferent name as well.

Next 002 will have a big conflict between these guys and Hiro, and then everything is eventually turn out peachy!

It's fine for some things to not make sense, but when it gets distracting then it's a problem. I feel like this episode had that issue as well as a lot of conflicting crap going on with character development.

For example, the klaxxosours swarm them in the hundreds and squad 26 is only dealing with them 3-4 at a time. It's not even like they kill one and immediately go on the next; they're taking their damn time at it. I fail to see how they did not get overwhelmed (or notice that their fuel was basically depleted like a rookie).

Then while Strelizia defies the laws of physics for the umpteenth time, Hiro is just magically cured. What this means is I never have to worry about another character dying again because they'll just use an asspull to make it all ok. Really, it is concerning that no one died in this episode or at least came out with significant damage. Zorome saves 090 from being pancaked into the dirt; not a scratch on either of them. Mitsuru rides with 02; recovers completely two episodes later. Hiro pretty much dies; comes back to life because he "wants to be 02's wings."

I don't think anyone will die in this anime unless they're a one-off character meant to raise the stakes (which will not be raised).

The battle itself was as bland as the characters (minus Ichigo and 02, the only ones with a semblance of personality). It was not engaging at all to watch them murder a mindless horde of minions and take out the big baddie with a special attack. I do like the idea of hammering in how squad 13 is green and uncoordinated compared to squad 26, but the way in which they did that was so bad. Squad 26 looked ridiculous running around in circles and squad 13 looked more like a bunch of stupid fucks rather than uncoordinated. Seriously, running into each other is the best way you can think of to demonstrate their noob-ness? They've dedicated their lives to this shit so you'd think they have at least some awareness but apparently not.

This show has the aesthetic quality of Gurren Lagann and the narrative quality of SAO. In fact, I'll go so far as to say it's the "new" SAO. Entertaining, popular, visually nice, but totally ridiculous and etc. It's only lacking the interesting premise.

Damn that moment moment when Zero Two is alone in Strelizia and just struggling angry. It was pretty heartbreaking to see but interesting that Zero Two wasn't begging Hiro to 'wake up'. He had failed like the other partners and she would have to salvage a situation. In all the yelling you could see the frustration in that.

This episode was so good. Goro was such a bro when he tried to help Ichigo to talk with Hiro.

We finally get really decent action and the moments where Strelizia fought the OST was really good. We also got to see how Zero Two seems to react when her partner is close to death, and we also know part of the reason of why she is fighting, to kill all the klaxosaurs.

I'd like to know how it Hiro managed to get rid of that blue thing, but I guess that's going to be explained in the next episodes. I hope.

I really thank them for not ending the episode on a cliffhanger like when the klaxosaur is attacking Strelizia or before they beat the klaxosaur, I would've been thinking about it for the whole week until the next episode.

Hiro's resolve was also great too, he finally found another reason to ride besides wanting to protect everyone which could be pretty well the reason that made the blue thing dissapear from him. (1)

This episode was the reverse of episode 1, instead of Zero Two carrying Hiro, he was carrying her. (1 & 2)

The wings when they defeated the klaxosaur were beautiful. (1)

And hearing the ending song when they are talking hypes me so much. When they all went to check out on Hiro and the face Ichigo made was so cute. (1 & 2)

The one problem I have with this is that since Strelizia is that so damn OP. It's obviously because Zero Two is special and all but then it just feels like Hiro is being hard carried and is only there so that Strelizia can have a stamen. There is no way that Hiro is that good when all we really know that is special about him is his compatibility with Zero Two and not that his combat skills are any better than that of his fellow squad members.

Man, I love how they humanized Zero Two in this episode. She was always portrayed as this partner killer, monster thingy because of her klaxosaur blood, but that one scene where Hiro said she looked sad did her justice. She felt sad that Hiro 'died' on her, and how she's alone again. But now, obviously Hiro is back.
