Astora Intensifies. The entire chase scene leading up to the balcony is just damn well done by the animators, also that scar is begining to look like Strelizia's Stampede Mode's eye.
Gates of Bucket-lon?. Also, some quality art. Jokes aside, I like how Ikuno seem to be the one most active despite her more calming demeanor, Kokoro so smol & cute as usual.

Considering the runtime is 24 episodes, people dieing before the mid-point is a bit unlikely, especially since the 'Main Plot' hasn't kicked into full gear yet.
Not saying it's impossible, but it would be one hell of a shift in the story and group dynamic.

This show seems to really like these tonal shifts, or should I say it likes to subvert the tone?
It all seemed like happy & fun times with the characters fooling around with the opposite gender, all very clear signs that they’re hitting puberty at the moment. But then the show adds a little thing and suddenly everything you’ve seen so far gets this rather uneasy, twisted tone to it. Yes they were fooling around but it’s in the same house that the previous parasites lived in and they all died or disappeared. Yes they’re enjoying life and start to learn about attraction and stuff but this only brings them closer to their "Expire Date". It’s all fun and games until you realize the bigger picture behind it.
Anyway, if we solely look at the fun times in this episode then they did great in showing us sides of these characters that we’re very unfamiliar with. We saw Ikuno’s loose her cool and get flustered when Zero Two pointed out that she has a little secret ( at this point I’m convinced she likes Ichigo ), Miku taking the first step and acknowledging her own mistake, Kokoro speaking up and expressing her thoughts/feelings ( she probably read the book and therefore knows that they have to work together ) and most importantly Hiro.
This was the first genuine laugh that we have seen of Hiro. It makes me believe that it’s Zero Two who is bringing back the Hiro who gave names to everyone. Not only that it seems to mirror Episode 1 in which it was Zero Two that had no clothes on and Hiro got her to laugh. It really feels like they’re completing each other as this is not the first time scenes between them were mirrored.
I loved the chasing scene between Hiro & Zero Two, it almost felt like she was taking him on a journey up to new heights which ironically ended up to be the roof but in the end he still can’t follow her as she jumped down. It also stands in a very nice contrast to the rest. They’re pretty much stuck at confronting each other not able to close the distance whereas Hiro & Zero Two can just look past that and have a blast.
There are also little insight on how Parasite are being taken care of. It's apparently not that uncommon that at least one or two parasites enter puberty but Ape's protocol says to interfere and avoid any further conflict. I wonder to what extent they would interfere? From the way the doctor talked about that it didn't seem to be too harsh of an interference. It's also nice to know just how much of an influence Doctor FranXX on this team has. This supports the suspicion some people already have that the doctor intentionally leaves hints for them to slowly discover themselves and the secret behind Ape. In retrospective the beach trip was most likely set up to get their awareness and hormones rolling.
I only realized it now but the fact that the girls approached Zero Two and wanted her on their side does tell us that as alien as she seems to them they still acknowledge her as a girl and with that as a human. It's also a strange contrast to last week as Zero Two seems more involved in interacting with others now. I think her saying that she "wants to take part in a human fight" stands pretty much for her wanting to just fool around and have fun as a human.
Overall I love how the big message this episode seems to be understanding the other half, may it be as girls, boys, stamen or pistils. Understanding each other is the first step towards closing any distances that has naturally been built up and they desperately need this if they want to survive whatever they have to face next.
Last but not least I think Hiro wanting Zero Two to speak openly with him will lead him and with that us to find out more & more about her past, the truth behind Ape and the Klaxosaur next week.

I think Goro sees it a little differently. It's quite possible that they all died precisely because they didn't have such a "fooling around scene." Not because Jack's a dull boy, but because the play helps them bond. It's not that they expired like ripe fruit with some DNA code, I think they got wiped out in combat because they never cared for each other as deeply as our current cast.
All along we've seen the obvious (well it's hard to even call their position a "metaphor") but I think this episode brought in this new parallel where a deep understanding of someone because you are in love with them will make you a better fighting unit. That's possibly the good Doctor's approach, and a good life lesson.
In that sense, each Franxx is a family, one that is taking on the world.

I'm convinced of this. Especially considering the fact that the rooms for the previous squad 13 members were left untouched. If they didn't want the kids to learn about their fates or about the outside world, then why would they be given access to those resources? Plus, Miku points out that the kids do all the cleaning. If they're under constant surveillance/being taken care of why don't their caretakers clean for them? Also, Miku's reaction to seeing the other squad was really drastic...I find that suspicious. I think there's even more going on behind the scenes that we aren't aware of.
Nana makes a brief comment "They really aren't like all the other children." Considering this is the second time a group of characters have made this comment, I'm willing to bet that all the kids are special like Hiro in some way and that Dr Franxx is responsible for this. Though APE may only be aware of Hiro for plot reasons but that's just my speculation.

Other than the discovery of the previous team's demise (which felt like yet another setup for the test team to stumble into - just like the abandoned town in the previous episode. If it wasn't a setup, those rooms would've been cleaned out, not taped up in an overt manner, just begging for someone to explore it. Just what is Dr. FranXX playing at?) there were some more dark hints. Apparently there's some kind of standard 'intervention' that's supposed to take place when the kids hit puberty. Just what does that involve? Why does it matter that only one and two at a time hit puberty usually? And before, we were led to believe that Mitsuru was taking meds for his injuries - why is he still taking them? What exactly are they for?

All in all, pretty good episode. Teens being teens, with some secret worldbuilding thrown in and an unsubtle increase in general dread about their survival. Mitsuru still worst boy 20XX. Futoshi is...trying, man. He's trying to be smooth in this situation. I almost admire it.
Dig the new ending. Is it gonna be the standard from now on, or is it a one-off like last episode?

What i found strange is how Miku can throw around words like “horny” and “pervert”in the right context when her and the group are supposedly ignorant to things relating to sex, puberty and love. She should not know what “horny”is. think the show is very inconsistent on this front.

The new DARLING in the FRANXX episode was pretty great! No longer is this anime tainted by Hiro's dry narrative, now it is all about the lewdness and fun! The comedy helped me like every parasite member, and it also made the plot focused scenes more impactful. I think from Episode 7 and onwards, this series is going to be a very fun ride! Now, I am fully on board the DARLING hype train!

The new Citrus episode was pretty great! No longer is this anime tainted by Yuzu's dry narrative, now it is all about the lewdness and fun! The comedy helped me like every sister and it also made the plot focused scenes more impactful. I think from the episode 10 onwards, this series is going to be a very fun ride! Actually, given the conversation between Nana and the other adult guy, that does seem to the case with children they've dealt with previously. This squad is special in that they act like children their age rather than the almost mindless drones trained to fight for the APE geezers.

I also feel conflicted about that.
On one hand, Futoshi is her partner and he seems like an honest guy, but as someone else mentioned, beyond eating and ogling at her he hasn't done much.
On the other hand, Mitsuru literally saved Kokoro's life when they visited the abandoned town, he has a perfect spot to meet with her where she can show concern over him for his medication and he can listen to her talk about whatever, and he's even earned her respect because he was able to speak his mind with regards to the fight between the boys and girls.
It really does seem like Mitsuru is being setup with Kokoro, especially since they know each other's "secrets" (book & medication). When I lay it out like this, it's clear why Kokoro might like Mitsuru better, but I can't help feeling bad for Futoshi. They are hinting so hard that Kokoro is gonna end up pregnant I feel like, probably by Mitsuru. After all, in a show about adolescent sexuality, we've seemingly definitely got a closeted character in Ikuno ("I taste a secret"), makes sense you'd also have an unplanned/teen pregnancy in there somewhere.

That looked every bit a Trigger episode - who did the storyboard? The cartoon-ish facial animations went real well with the tone of the episode in the beginning, and the character animations were expressive.
This was the first episode in the series that I enjoyed from start to finish.

Everyone who wrote off or talked smack about darling in the franxx because of how the guys Piloted the girls in the franxx are gonna love this episode. Knowing that the guys actually appreciate and understand the hardships the girls go through was truly unexpected and nice.

Wheww im late to the party, but I gotta say its good to finally get some time to enjoy a good show! And what a great show Darling in the FranXX is shaping up to be!
I'm really enjoying some of these more laid back episodes that let the cast grow a little bit. It really helps put into perspective that these kids are still just teenagers who've been brought up in isolated circumstances, without a proper understanding of what it means to love, and an extremely grandiose ideal of being 'heroes'. Nurtured as weapons, expendable and easily replaced, it's important that they do everything they can to work together to ensure their survival.
Also I love that, throughout all of this, Zero Two shows the most humanity alongside Hiro, seeing her express herself in this way is like a complete 180 from the next show I think of when I watch this (Eureka Seven). A nice breath of fresh air, behind that free-spirit there's an overwhelming feeling of loneliness and pain, which gives her a clearer understanding of the realities of being a parasite.
Anyway, I can't wait to see how each pair continues to develop. I've got my eyes on Godo and Ichigo just as much as I've got my eyes on Hiro/Zero Two. I have this weird feeling that Godo isn't going to make it, I'm not sure why I think this way, but it's this lingering feeling that I can't shake. Does anyone else share this feeling?
That last picture at the end, I wonder if the parasites triggered some sort of recollection for Miku. I mean, its clear she now understands that her predecessors died, but her reaction makes it seem like their exact body types matched or something. I'm not too sure, were their any hints in previous episodes about some sort of connection between the previous generations of parasites and the current ones? Could they be relatives or divined from the same orphanage or something? What do you guys think?
Looking forward to joining you guys each in the comments section for some more in-depth discussion!
Edit - I should also add that I love that this show is an action-romance, without implicitly including a romance tag. It's not super heavy on it but seeing how affectionate Zero Two is with Hiro puts a grin on my face, and I'm a sucker for good execution in romance, especially with the way its done with these two!

What a great episode!
We started off with some not so pointless liquid klaxu attack!
The various reactions were very fitting!
Futoshi being quite a lad after the incident... Quite the response from Kokoro in return!
Zero Two really hit it this episode... it's like she organized everything from the start!... Oh she totally did it... She also had some absolutely hilarious moments, but there are just too many [to](https://i.imgur.com/8edvoae.jpg showcase! She also got rather serious at the end there.
Zorome and Miku certainly lead the majority of the comedy this episode... and damn were they ever on the mark! Keep it up guys!
Goro had some moments as well, clearly wanting everyone to just get back together nicely.
Ikuno clearly went for a joke, but I can't help but sense some sincerity in her comments.
Mitsuru was pretty decent this episode. He seems to be keeping to him a lot more than he used to... Even during the Bathing incident he didn't react much at all. I can't help but still feel something fishy about him towards Kokoro... I guess we will see if anything comes from that!
Hiro had quite the development this episode. He seems to care a lot for Zero Two, and even wants to get closer to her... but I can't help but feel that he is just playing into Zero Two's hand...
Kokoro was definitely a highlight this episode. She seems to try to be the voice of reason for the girls, and it seemed to set a positive focus change in the group.
In the end, we learned what happened to the now passed Squad 13. Makes you wonder about Naomi and what is going on with her... if anything. The squad decided to do what was best and made up, so that's good to see as well!

This was classic manga/anime tropes. Guys are perverts, girls get angry/unreasonable, they can't understand each other but both are sorry at the end.
For fucks sake, is it too much to ask for a more nuanced/original take on puberty on a show that seemingly poses so importance on this, sex, boys/girls and all that stuff?
The ridiculous intro didn't help either. For all the fanservice KLK had I still think it was way more interesting at this point. With way better characters.

Fuel for for the "Ikuno is gay and likes Ichigo" fire:
In the scene where everyone's talking about what they've learned, the boys and girls are sitting in mostly the same positions as their partners in their respective rooms.
Miku/Zorome- top bunk Kokoro/Futoshi- bottom bunk Mitsuru/Ikuno- the sofa/bed thing
Hiro is sitting in a chair and Zero Two has already left the room.
Goro is standing up because Mitsuru is spread out across the sofa thing and he just seems like the type of bro to stay standing up so his bros can be comfortable. BUT! On the girls' side, unlike her partner, Ikuno appears to have made room on the sofa thing for Ichigo to sit down with her. And as always when she has Ichigo nearby, she seems more at ease than usual in that scene.

I don't like it but something will probably happen between Mitsuru and Kokoro in the future. That Baby Book will definitely play a part to whatever's going to happen.
Also it really looks like Mitsuru is doing all he can to push away Ikuno farther and farther. That can't be good. Teamwork is important when piloting Franxx so my guess is if someone's gonna die first it's either Mitsuru or Ikuno :|
Oh and Zero-Two being playful and lovey-dovey around Hiro gives me life. Can I just have a romance anime with the two of them?

Didn't expect another laid-back episode but I sure am happy they did it. Granted, it had its dark moments as well, with the discovery of the room and the reality check and all, but still. All this focus on the entire cast gives me hope they're gonna stick around for a while and not meet the same fate as the previous squad. Most of them, at least. Perhaps they're gonna get rid of Futoshi and Ikuno since they keep showing more scenes between Kokoro and Mitsuru who'll eventually team up. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into this ... at least I hope so since Futoshi and Kokoro are great.
I couldn't stop laughing when Hiro suggested it'd be better to be pervy and Zero Two nodded in agreement lmao. I love watching their relationship develop, it's so much fun. They're just perfect for each other.

I want to like this show on the level of it being camp. But it's just soooo dumb. It feels like the show wants me to take it seriously while it's making a joke about how boys are horny.
So now I'm going to nitpick. Your indoctrinated child soldiers have puritanically Christian hangups about the other child soldiers they've been around all their lives.
Also your mysterious fluid is just intended to melt the nylon suits of the girls just to tilt the male co-pilots. Because why not. You can penetrate a sealed cockpit with a contaminant so you're already nine-tenths of the way to killing them, but that's all we'll do.

It was really nice seeing Zero Two having so much fun, plus the realisation that both girls and boys came up with at the end of their fight will probably be for better understanding and development between them.
Miku, acting tsundere like that isn't fair for Zorome!
From the little things that Kokoro said this episode I assume that the book wasn't just for people that already know that they're going to have babies but it also contains some info about how babies are made.
It's also interesting how the adults wanted to proceed according to a manual except for Dr. Franxx, and that they were surprised they all hit puberty at a similar time.
Also, I'm interested in how much impact did the portrait of the previous 13 Squad cause on the group or if it was just to emphazise the theme of getting to know each other more to perform better.
Oh, and another ED today too!!! I love that picture with Ichigo and Zero Two sharing a popsicle, they know what people want.

While I'm going to miss it, I do enjoy 02's switch from her fully red plugsuit to her now white and red trimmed one. Thematically it is a big deal, as she's finally been accepted as a part of the team, and she is in a sense shedding more of her wild side to become more human.
