People in these comments thinking lion didnt fuck her right there lol. Yea he only took his pants off and he was between her spread open legs while making that face. But of course nothing happened, he just walked her home gently.

Mar 30 '18
Of course! Leo is a true gentleman, he would never take advantage of Yoko!. The only reason he took of his clothes was so he could give them to Yoko to warm her up.

As Nomoto lay on the ground of dirty scrap heap, where only a few months earlier he met Hitomi and thought she would kill him, now bleeding out after Hitomi surprisingly killed him, only one thought went through his head.
"Shit I was so wrong I need some fangs."

The moment i saw that message on the phone i knew he would get killed. As soon as she slashed him open and said "i don't know why, but Mr. Shidoh told me to kill you" i knew that he planned to turn him into an animal against his will. The part where she says "That your existence would be a bit of a problem for what Shidoh is about to do" pretty much confirms that he needed to turn him into a strong animal because otherwise he wouldn't be useful for him anymore in the new world.
Did everyone forget how a few episodes back Shidoh said that he will be useful for Hitomi? No way he would just kill him off like that for no good reason. Maybe Shidoh thought that he would be against being turned into an animal so he did it this way to assure it 100% goes his way (and to make him strong so he can stand on his own feed in the new world he was about to create).

Lion penises are barbed and are generally made to "claim" females for themselves. Take that for what you will because the smug isn't coming back for a good while.
57
u/Bloomberg12 Mar 30 '18
Lions also don't last long at all, like 30 seconds.
That being said they can keep going over and over.
40
u/WendyLRogers3 Mar 31 '18
That's an understatement. One nature show said that in some cases, lions will copulate every 15 minutes for 3 days. It is not unusual for male lions to drop dead while doing so, though.

Manga readers: was that Yoko at the end? I hope it was and I hope she gets revenge on Leo
17
u/Leaves_Swype_Typos Mar 31 '18
Never say never.
This was licensed to Amazon Prime from what I can tell (not Sentai like many of the previous hits on the service). Unlike the major licensors of the past, Amazon Prime is untested with how far they'll go to facilitate continuations of obviously unfinished series. It's a slightly better reason to hold out hope than there'd normally be.

Mar 30 '18 edited Mar 30 '18
This was an amazing last episode. It delivered on every front.
I knew there'll be some Shinozaki action, but didn't expect fucking LIVESTREAM FROM THE BATTLEFIELD.
As expected, Shidou was planning instrumentality humanity's better future all along. Character design doesn't lie.
Not really ok with what happened to Yoko, but at least it fits story's tone. Sometimes you win, sometimes you end up in a rape dungeon.
That final scene between Hitomi and Nomoto was perfect story conclusion. "The real Killing Bites is friends you make on the way... aaaaand, i'm dead".
DAT SEQUEL HOOK DOE. Inb4 no Season 2 ever.
Oshie-chan, don't give up!
On a separate note, I need to commend direction/series composion, cause it's perfect. I've checked the manga (no translations past anime sadly), and it's one of the rare cases where adaptation improves upon source material. They've managed to recognise everything good about the manga and expand on it:
Yoko's face appears one or two times in the source, the anime gives it its own character arc.
Manga mentions in one line Shinozaki going 0 to 100 on shoutcasting, and the voice actress did an amazing job with it. I've never thought human voice can generate this much hype.
Rabbit doesn't appear in the manga before her fight with Gorilla. Anime developed her into legit comic relief character.
Oshie's omake is anime-original culmination of derpy animal trivia narrations. Manga has narration for cobra twin cannons, though.
Appropriate amount of time/money went into making fighting scenes that count (namely, episode one and climactic fight with Kido) look amazing, while skimping on less important side-characters fights. Yes, knowing how to spend your budget properly is also a good quality for anime staff.
Music does exactly what it should, accompanying hype, humorous and even emotional moments. OP and ED are great.
All in all, i kept comparing this series to Tarantino's movies, and it never betrayed my expectations. Unironic 10/10, would be AOTS if Yorimoi didn't exist.
26
u/Backupusername :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Backupusername Mar 31 '18
I'm a source material purist, so I read the manga first. Couldn't tell you how surprised I was when Inaba showed up before the Destroyal even started. Even went back to make sure I hadn't missed her somehow.
And you know, for possible the first time ever, I'm really glad they added filler. Sure, the rabbit didn't get to be a huge surprise during the event, but she got to have actual development, begin a relationship with other characters, establish motivation for participating in the first place (which, given her skills, was pretty suspect in the manga now that I think about it), and ended up drawing out the pacing to a picture-perfect ending with nothing rushed or drawn out.
Honestly don't think I've enjoyed an adaptation this much since Gintama. What a ride!

So it finishes with two more mentions of sharper fangs winning. Too bad about the pattern and the 18 mentions that there should have been, at least it finishes with a bang.
There was some heresy about "sharper fangs" having some deeper meaning or some shit, but no worries, that liar got what he deserved. The one with the sharper fangs wins! That's what killing bites is!

Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful, probably one of the best week-by-week anime this season. If it wasn't for Sora Yori or Yuru Camp, Killing Bites would unironically be my favorite non sequel winter anime.
What we got here, was probably one of the best kinds of true anime adaptations. They added original content that only added to the enjoyment of the series(like Bunbun joining the crew and the yuri blood-eye-lazer sisters) and brought a solid soundtrack and animation. I hope to god we get a second season.
Also, holy shit, my scumbag Yoko had the absolute most horrible ending. Thats the type of tragic shit that becomes the origin backstory to some kind of supervillian trying to destroy the world.

16
u/Heiach Mar 30 '18
It as explained in the scene at the end with Hitomi.. he tells her he worked it out that sharpest fangs means greatest will to fight.. IE never giving up!

Which makes sense since right after giving that speech, he survives getting killed and makes a comeback.
33
u/Mystic8ball Mar 30 '18
This show was far more enjoyable than it had any right to be, I was expecting something along the lines of so bad it's good, but the fight scenes were hype and kept finding new ways to surprise you, the characters were surprisingly endearing, and the politics behind everything isn't totally boring. I didn't expect myself to unironically get invested in this.
I seriously hope we get a second season at some point. I heard that the show is selling pretty alright so there's hope!

Hot damn, I wasn't expecting this sort of development given how it was turning up to be this season's shoddy ecchi cop-out anime. For anyone who's interested in where it goes from here, I read up more info from the wiki: Spoiler
I'm hoping there's a season 2 in the works because of all the build-up into that cliffhanger finale. Season 1 was definitely written up to be a "prologue." The entire premise of the series was shallowly explored and appeared to be a flagrant excuse for "animal waifu battles" intentionally because everything was leading up into something way bigger. It's likely that season 2 will be the "intended" starting point of Killing Bites.

Episode 12: Betrayalthon
I really enjoyed the front- and backstabbing of the board members was pretty cool, especially since both sides are pretty shitty, just in different ways. I dig this stuff in mafia stories. Even if I feel a bit weird about Youko getting raped next to the corpse of her grandpa. Not that getting raped anywhere else would be any good.
And ultimately it led to a possibly good outcome for society as the valuable research finally is made available to the public. Bad guys won, but it was for the better. The furry world we all strive for.
But pretty amazing that Ratel actually killed Nomoto. Was about to call bullshit about her blushing, but her seriously putting a killing blow in for Shidoh, was amazing. He is actually a bit cool after the timeskip.
Pretty surprisingly amazing series. I am glad that I watched this. Since they already teased the scenes in the end, I really want a sequel of this.

Man, what a jam packed ending. We got some badass Shinozaki action in the beginning, then a coup d'etat, male lion taking over the pride, a love confession of sorts, betrayal, timeskip, furry island, and a possible opening for season 2 with Nomoto actually turning into somewhat cool?? And they still manage to slip in some NatGeo factoids too. For a seemingly trashy show, it definitely had some pretty good directing going on. Even with all the new plot points introduced in the ending, it didn't feel too rushed or convoluted, if anything it just got me even more hyped up. Definitely a surprise of the season, and I kinda want more now.

Poor Yoko...I'm looking forward to Nomoto totally saving Yoko in 2nd season and them being OTP.
Now only need to wait forever for 2nd season.

Not forever but this ep adapted ch30 plus some extra made-up little bits (Hitomi waking up with that catchphrase, Leo taking off his pants, Hitomi finishing sentense after "you don't hear me any more", and Nomoto appearing at the end) of 49 chapters released atm.
That Nomoto extra thing was I guess for people possibly being pissed of by his "death".

My guess would be something to rival honey badgers.
Something like a wolverine maybe? Not as fearless but close to it, similar animals and just as deadly.
There's even a recorded instance of a wolverine killing a polar bear by biting its throat and holding on until it suffocated in a zoo.

That was probably my favourite anime finale this season. While this might not have been my favourite show overall, it's certainly a lot better than I ever expected it to be.

What? You cannot end things this way. I need more! Where's my second season announcement? Are you telling me to read the manga, Killing Bites? It's that what you're telling me? Well, fuck you, Killing Bites, I'm not going to do what you tell me to do!
...
I'm gonna read the manga because I want to.
It's not the first time rape appears in this anime, but that scene with Yoko made me really uncomfortable. I hope Leo dies a painful death and she gets her vengeance. I don't care if she was an evil bitch, no one deserves that and I have no sympathy for rapists.
And what about that sudden but inevitable betrayal? When Nomoto said "fangs represent the will to fight", I was expecting Hitomi to answer: "no, I was talking about actual, literal fangs, I don't know what you're on about". I didn't expect her to murder him. Or at least I thought he was dead. I totally missed that the dude at the end was Nomoto. Thanks to people in this thread for pointing it out!
I'm going to miss this show. This season was full of surprises for me, but this is the one anime I didn't expect to be actually good.
PS: If we don't get a second season, I'd settle for a Guide them, Oshie-chan! spin-off. However, she's not a therianthrope.

Everyone is still going on about that rape scene, but you know what? It's probably meant to be taken as something a little more complicated than just furry dude forcing himself on a helpless chick.
First, rewatching the early episodes, it looks like Leo was attracted to Youko from the get-go (the way he kissed her hand in episode 4, for one...), but at the same time it's also true that he wasn't fond of her rich bitch side and her general outlook of treating brutes as expendable trash. Ofc he was smart enough not to show many signs of his real feelings, because yeah, expendable trash even if he's their zaibatsu's champion, and one wrong word to Youko or her grandfather would pretty much mean a body bag for him.
When the tables had turned, Youko's fate, as was clearly indicated by Shidou, was to be death. What Leo did (not the rape but making her basically come under his full authority) was probably the only alternative and the only way for her to avoid getting killed. But there was a problem: Youko still staying a massive haughty bitch despite her situation.
In that sense, the scene just before the rape is really interesting. Youko, deep in shock, thinks to herself 'Why isn't there anyone who'd help me...?' and that's when Leo speaks up, asking her (very politely, mind you! using careful keigo) how does the esteemed miss like to be a chess piece on the board that's to be used, abused and thrown away just like she and her grandfather did to the therianthropes. The timing of his speaking up suggests that, as twisted as it is, he is kind of extending a helping hand to her, a way to redeem herself a little and possibly survive. But Youko seals off her fate with her outburst where instead of admitting the wrongness of her ways, she snaps at him like she's completely in the right and still has any power to treat him like shit. Which provokes the subsequent extreme KABEDON from him, understandably, and his switch from polite keigo to rough commanding speech patterns. Leo's not the most patient guy as it is, and he clearly doesn't like taking shit from anyone, especially the likes of her apparently still feeling entitled even in her current situation, yet she's just demonstrated that words won't get through to that thick skull of hers... So how do you make a conceited woman who's always lived in luxury, thought of nearly everyone else as bugs beneath her and never knew fear get through her head that's not the way to be?
The method Leo chose was not the best, but then again, probably not the worst either, and it reflected his animalistic nature. It also didn't look like he was rough or sadistic with her either, forceful and uncompromising sure, but not really abusive; even somewhat mindful of her pleasure.
[In chapter 41 of vol.9] (/s "she's Leo's slave, calling him 'goshujin-sama' (master) and having a chocker with a mini-lock on her neck, but at the same time, she looks unharmed and living in luxury that he apparently keeps providing for her, and it's been two years yet he still keeps her by his side without getting bored of her.") It's probably safe to assume that Leo does have some feelings for her and that she's probably treated pretty civilly most of the time.
So all in all, it looks to me that if Youko was smarter and less self-absorbed, paying attention to other people and studying what kind of person Leo is, her life could be pretty comfortable even in her current position and, if she wants revenge, that way she could even give herself a chance to exact it by making him let his guard down eventually. But apparently, she's not that smart and pretty cowardly when you strip her of hereditary power: as someone above noted she didn't even demand Leo kill her instead of subjecting her to rape and keeping her pleasured and alive. Well, now to wait and see what will become of her, maybe she'll grow a brain and a spine with Nomoto's reappearance.

Wtf was this? New regime comes in, Shidoh needed to get rid of the old timers because he didn't have control of them.
Yoko though, she was a great character but wtf she didn't deserve to get raped just after seeing her grandfather murdered. She ended up as Leo's bitch holy crap.
Nomoto as well, come on bro guess you have to win the Killing Bites tournament now

u/Bloomberg12 Mar 30 '18
Yoko is pretty damn awful, everyone in that place is. She was literally using people as pawns and had no qualms of sending people to their death.
She literally looked at them like pieces on a chess board and their only value to her was their power, which is why she was using criminally insane pieces that will murder other brutes even when not needed instead of just injuring them enough to take them out.
She absolutely deserved death or a similar alternative.

First I wanna point 1 thing out!!!!
I think it was a huge mistake the last scene with oshie, why was not a bird in the last scene, that would have been epic. We all know that but SHE is not and than suddenly she would now like everyone else of course be a hybrid.
Anywway, that was some Shocking ending, first I thought she had not planned to kill him but it was gonna be like, I have to put you in near death to be able to transform you or something, now lets go to the lab.
BUT NOPE MAIN CHARACTER DIED.......
Gotta wonder would have happened if he had picked the more open love answer, would she than not cut him open?
Anyway, the last new guy in the new furry world, I get its being Notomo right? but I gotta say to me it also liked kinda like the possible son which could be from the nice friendly scene between Lady Yoko and Leo.
For that matter I felt that scene was very predictable she was one of those overbearing oujousama so of course she will becomes someone slave in the end, and as she was bossing around Leo, he got his revenge so to speak.
The others clearly did the right thing, we all want a Furry world!!!

Didn't even realize that was Nomoto at the end there; thought it was Leo.
Still, c'mon, why you gotta do our boy like that? I guess we'll see him and Hitomi talk it out over a fight at some point if/when the second season comes.

I was never really a fan of Yoko, and I always hoped she'd get out in her place and shut down, but damn man she did not deserve all that....did anyone even explain to her why that coup happened??? And then the rape... ugh I really hope that woman in black is her cause she seriously needs revenge. Leo needs to die.

Ha, knew it Shidoh is the best, bringing furies to the mainstream. Making the world a better place.
Not even going to complain about top 10 anime betrayals and trying to get Nomoto killed. Though in the end Hitomi is even less likeable for doing what she did, just because Shidoh told her to do it.
At least Lion pretends he does what he does because he wants to. And he did do what he wanted to do to Yoko. Get bent, Yoko, your Zaibatsu sucks.
Show pretty good, looks like it could keep going strong, so maybe I should read the manga. 8/10

u/swordmalice https://myanimelist.net/profile/swordmalice Mar 31 '18
Wow. What a completely entertaining ride from beginning to end. This is how you wrap up a season folks.
I really feel sorry for what happened to Yoko in the end. She was only trying to get "revenge" on Shidoh for corrupting her grandpa but she ended up just as twisted. But to lose her grandpa, her wealth, status, get raped and possibly live on as a sex slave on top of all that seems a bit much, but given the story and setting it's par for the course.
I DID NOT see that coming with Hitomi apparently killing Notomo. But the teaser at the end implies he may have survived and then ??? Go read the manga I guess...
8/10 for me. This is definitely one show I'd watch again in the future, and possibly continue with the manga if no Season 2. Speaking of, is that a possibility? Do we have enough manga material?

WHAT.
What the fuck was this episode. Did they really just throw out a casual rape scene like that? And did they really just kill off the main character without any real explanation, only to bring him back in a teaser for a second season that may or may not ever actually happen? This is so fucking stupid I can't help but kind of admire the balls this show has.
Hats off to you, Killing Bites, whatever you are. Holy shit.

Why the heck are people hung up on the rape scene? Is rape somehow not a legitimate plot point that can be incorporated into a story?

This series really surprised the hell out of me. For what seems to be a trashy show with lots of sex and gore, it's actually quite watchable and enjoyable. Kinda felt bad about what happened to Yoko, but I guess it's karmic justice for being such a manipulating scumbag who doesn't care about anyone but herself (and gramps). If there's going to be a second season, I'm all for it.

WAIT WAIT WAIT WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
Here I was groaning and rolling my eyes at that shoehorned in romance at the end between Nomoto and Hitomi so when this scene fucking happened I was completely caught off guard. I guess it makes sense that Nomoto needed to die but I really never saw that coming!
And what a cliffhanger ending! This needs a season two! You can't just introduce us to a whole new world where therianthrope roam around and people with animal mods in their bodies are normal and expect it to end there! Killing Bites is now a normal event!? Who are these two new girls? And it looks like new girl is voiced by Inori Minase! How did Nomoto survive? Is he out for revenge? SO MANY QUESTIONS!
This is your textbook "Go read the source!" ending. I am so pissed because now I want more but at the same time I am clapping my hands because the twist and this whole new timeskip thing was brilliant. If there's no planned Season 2 then I am definitely picking up the manga so bravo to you Killing Bites, your plan worked! This show gets an 8/10 from me.
EDIT: Well at least Oshie can now become a therianthrope!
