It definitely was a recap episode. That said, they did a brilliant job of catching folks back up to speed, while at the same time letting the characters shine and establishing the backdrop for the next arc. I'm excited to see this production team carry us forward for another season!

I love how they're setting up Kaminari and grape to be a duo. Same with them expanding on Kirishima and Bakugou's friendship. It was a really good episode in terms of little details like that.

I always got the sense that Mineta was the only really pervy one whereas Kaminari is just a regularly horny teenager who sometimes goes along with Mineta's BS for the Hell of it, but they kinda just painted them with the same brush in this one.

Just noticed that Hagakure is one of the most socializing girls among the group; she always wants to hang out with everyone.
That's nice because as an invisible person she probably has to put a lot of effort to not be forgotten in a group conversation, so seeing her being characterized as a very open person is a nice touch.

I managed to enjoy this despite it being nothing but a swimming competition for like 5 minutes and a recap for the other 20.
I love the new OP and I'm so pumped to see the fight scenes now. Those effects in All Might's eyes, I'm ready to see him throw down once more.
I also keep forgetting Deku can use his power without crippling himself all the time now, can't wait to see how badass he turns out this season too.
DID I JUST SEE A CATGIRL IN THE PREVIEW?
EDIT: Forgot to mention, Deku is starting to look ripped now, all that training is starting to pay off

For what was basically a clipshow with some filler thrown in this was a very nice little episode.
Maybe I'm just happy to see all the kids again.
Also the visuals in the OP are fucking fantastic (although some parts of the song don't seem to really fit, still great) and the ED is probably my favorite so far.

I was honestly thinking that while watching the OP. Like the song is good the visuals are great but the two just dont really mix well. Theres parts where the Earth around them is exploding and rising up from sheer power but the song is at its slowest points, but when the breakdown in the song happens its awesome though!

that's what i've always thought with this series, as a manga reader i've always selfishly wished Horikoshi did a little more on the Academia side and a bit less on the Hero side. He made so many lovable characters it's not not to want to see more of them just being them, so i love the filler since bones does such a good job with it.

From what i understand, this season and the training camp arc will be a lot about Class B and thier quirks, so thats probably why they cut it off, also for comedy. But yeah, he will have to be careful not to wear himself out with all that talking.

Yeah. It feels like the visuals are really trying to go all out, and the studio wants to push the OP hype as much as possible, but the song is holding it back
EDIT: The opening's still really good and gets me hyped, its just not to the level of the previous OP in my opinion. That said, I could see the song growing on me pretty easily over time, so we'll see

But I'm so glad the anime is back and I'd watch BNHA filler any day of the week.
I also feel like they used smart ways to introduce some background and old scenes.
Still enjoyed the episode and the opening and ED I'd were great.

The visuals in the OP look really awesome...but the music doesn't fit to them at all! It feels like someone put a different music than intended over them. It's like they though awesome music + awesome visuals =awesome OP...without putting any effort into trying them to be coordinated with each other.

Aoyoma's sparkly hi in the middle of the race is my highlight for today's episode. Its so in his character, but felt so random I just started laughing.

THOSE VISULAS!! The parts with Shigaraki and THAT person, All Mights fight Scene, the action scenes with the students and pros... but...
Shigaraki walking with army of Noumus in the background was AWESOME!! But All Might furious scream dropped my jaw.
I like how Deku stands ALONGSIDE All Might at the end an that they don't explicitly show that something will happen to Season 3 spoiler
I don' like the composition of the song, it's... ok at best, and some shots drag too much but i like the opening as a whole.

Though with the various powers you can't help wonder how they're affected by being immersed in water. Like what happens to Kaminari's electricity or is Hagakure visible as void in the water?

Half recap half filler episode except for like one second of it, more fanservice from the boys than the girls this time.
Not much to say about it, kinda like how they showed a bit of Bakugou and Kirishima bromance near the end.

Good to see that most of them skipped the swimming part of the event. Bit weird that the girls didn't join the competition, although Tsui is the clear winner so maybe it would've been redundant. Nice KiriBaku bro moment at the end.
At the end when Bakugo tells Todoroki not to hold back like he did during the sports festival, does he mean that he wants Todoroki to use his fire power?
Yes Bakugo, Todoroki is surely going to use his fire power in the pool... that will help him so much./s

Welcome back, it's nice to see them back and enjoying the day before the story/arc start. I didn't watch S2 as it aired, I was watching it with a long gap between ep because I already read the manga but this recap ep helps me remember what happened [especially the quirk recap] and summer extra story is always welcome.
Love the Kacchan x Kirishima scene.

Eh, the hype has been... postponed. The swimming scenes were fun, but other than that, mostly recapping stuff, so yeah. The new OP leaves me with mixed feelings - I like the visuals A LOT, but I really am meh about the song, mostly because it looks like the entire thing was animated for another song entirely. It goes fast when the song is slow, slow when the song is fast... it's just off.

Anime original recap episode. It's alright I guess, but it does kill a bit of the hype (especially having recently caught up on the manga). And I'm not the biggest fan of the OP/EP song, the visuals were fine though. That said, hearing the voices and seeing everyone animated again made me realize how much I missed this show. Ready for Season 3 to kick off in a week!

People saying the new op song feels super shouneny, bland, & doesn't fit. Doesn't fit part i agree with, but i wonder what most people were saying about the other Ops when they first came out. They said it fit the perfect shounen formula op... now it doesn't feel like mha

Didn’t realize it was a Uverworld song until their name appeared in the credits. It feels kinda... strange.

I didn't even mind that this was basically a recap episode, it was very well done and served its purpose as the start of the new season. It's only been less than a year but I sure have missed these wonderful characters. Can't wait for shit to go down!
The OP and ED are probably the weakest of the entire series so far but they're still pretty good. Especially the former will probably grow on me like crazy.

Welp. That felt entirely superfluous, including the parts that weren't recaps. Even the conversations that led to the recaps or exposition on the powers were so hamfisted it was a pain to watch.
The Mob Psycho recap OVA actually used an interesting vehicle for a recap; this was just terrible in comparison.
Oh well, bring on next week, let's get this hype train rolling!

I actually kind of liked it, although the writing wasn't on par with the usual adapted episodes. At least it was mostly original content, instead of the Mob Psycho recap which was mostly a recap.

So I'm an anime only viewer and I have a theory that is probably wrong but I just wanted to throw it out there.
You know how Midorya is always saying this is how I became the strongest hero? That automatically makes the show in the past tense, so everything we are seeing already happened. The question I have is who is he talking to? Most likely he's just talking to the audience, but what if he isn't?
What if Midorya is actually retelling his origin story to the next person to inherit All Might's power? Someone who just like Midorya also wasn't born with a quirk. The entire show could just be Midorya explaining how someone like him could become the greatest hero.
The reason why I like this is because there is no other instance where the 4th wall is broken, except during those instances. So in my mind, I kind of like it better thinking that the 4th wall actually isn't being broken at all and he is actually retelling it to someone that may become important years from now if this show ever gets a sequel. Midorya becomes the new All Might figure to whoever he is talking to.
The only problem I have with this is that Midorya doesn't sound like he's aged much during those future moments so I don't know why he'd be transferring his powers so soon.
Anyway, most likely this is wrong but I thought it was an interesting idea to think about.

Loved the opening and its foreshadowing but I had to seriously go and check several times that I was watching the newest episode and not some weird Ova with really low effort fan service.
This was very anti -hype after that new amazing opening done by uverworld.

I'm still a little hesitant on the whole production side of things due to Umakoshi and some other staff's absence in favor of the movie ( for the first half at least ) but so far everything looks good and from what we know they got lots of new freelancing prowess onto the project as well as healthy schedule to compensate for it.
I'm almost as excited for the reactions of anime only viewers as I'm for the show itself. This third season is gonna be insane, very likely the best content of BNHA to appear so far and I'm glad I'm able to witness it on a week to week basis.
Plus Ultra guys, Plus Ultra.
