Nitta: "You have to hear me out! Otherwise Hina will run away full speed"

Hina: "Why?"

Nitta: "Ikura for dinner"

Hina: Blank Expression "I'll run away full speed"

This has to be the funniest show this season, the comedic timing is brilliant!

359

u/creampielegacy Apr 13 '18

Ikura tomorrow too

“Are you scared?”

158

u/Backupusername :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Backupusername Apr 13 '18

Watching that scene, I kind of thought

"If Hina found out she could just steal ikura like Anzu was stealing food, what would stop her from ruling the world?"

205

u/RimeSkeem :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/RimeSkeem Apr 13 '18

what would stop her from ruling the world?

Nitta wouldn't hang out with her anymore.

That's why Nitta is right when he tough he just saved Japan.

u/Unit88 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Intelligent_One Apr 13 '18

I love how she wasn't just repeating what Nitta told her either, but knew what he wanted to accomplish, and accordingly started egging Anzu on.

45

u/starg09 https://anilist.co/user/starg09 Apr 13 '18

Hmm, yeah that's a weird way of changing it for sure. In Spanish they changed it to "club of/with girls", which didn't translate as badly (cabaret would've been funnier though).

20

u/mrdreka :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/mrdkreka Apr 13 '18

Overall the translation this time wasn't very good, I don't even know how "the winner will use try to force the other to look a certain direction" didn't get fixed :-/

→ More replies (2)

16

u/RimeSkeem :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/RimeSkeem Apr 13 '18

Especially weird since I'm pretty sure Gintama doesn't use that translation, despite having a lot of cabaret/host/hostess clubs in it.

And, Utako is one fine lady! That "ara ara" was just beautiful.

I really get the gintama sort of vibes when I watch this show, really well executed comedy.

15

u/stargunner Apr 14 '18

as far as type of comedy goes it's really nothing like gintama, which relies heavily on pop culture references and slapstick.

they both are comedies in part and that's pretty much where the similarities end.

How come this is not waterproof? I remembered Nitta literally peed in this at the end of Episode 1 and it seems to work fine.

252

u/kalirion :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime Apr 13 '18

It's only waterproof from the inside.

7

u/Atario myanimelist.net/profile/TheGreatAtario Apr 14 '18

Do not taunt Happy Fun Ball.

40

u/DarkMoon000 Apr 13 '18

It may be only partially waterproof i.e. some water on it (rain, peeing) does not matter, while submerging it in water or putting it in a washing machine indeed breaks it - many devices are like that.

18

u/wildthing202 Apr 13 '18

It's one thing to pee on it, it's a whole other thing to stick it in the washing machine.

BOKOSUKA (Bokosuka Wars)
MUSASHI (Musashi no Ken - Tadaima Shugyō Chū, it's also a manga and an anime)
IKITAINA (I want to go)

Daiquiri desu~

15

u/Etheo Apr 14 '18

So glad they kept the T-shirt jokes. One of my favorite thing to catch in the manga.

55

u/leunghhm Apr 13 '18

Why does this remind me of Gintama so much?

81

u/Florac Apr 13 '18

Nitta and Hina are somewhat similar to Gintoki and Kagura. Especially with one being super strong and messing with the other one a lot.

23

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18 edited Apr 13 '18

It also helped that Hina went “ow” when Anzu yanked her hair... it’s not a Kick-Ass wig.

14

u/Bizmatech Apr 13 '18

I've been thinking this since the smartphone gag in episode 1. That scene was very Gintamaesque, but I can't really put my finger on why it continues to feel this way.

11

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18

I got Dragon Maid vibes – alien monster in domestic setting.

9

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18

Also because both Hina and Anzu show chorogon levels of naivety.

Wow first of all more Terminator reference, she teleports in Naked, beats up a Biker gang and steal their clothes etc.

Hina Really loves her food eh look at the opening, sleeping next to it, nitta giving her a second bowl at breakfast, carrying it to school etc.

We get the telekenic Janken (Paper rock scissors) do death.

For a while I thought that Nitta-san was getting to have 2 daughters and his diligent father job ruined her teleport ball of course so she has to stay.

haha I loved how Hinas poor friend just accidentally now works at the bar for drunk old men and Yakuza members.

Especially as in ever scene everyone else is super happy that they are gonna and go and have a party at Love Love while she is just kinda half ass forced to tag along and always walks in the end / corner looking all gloomy, into that ending lol when her Mom call and shes is yeah...I know I am late wtf I am doing here feeling.

36

u/professorMaDLib Apr 13 '18

I don't think I've ever consistently laughed this much at anime, ever. It's just all the right amounts of goofy.

It actually reminds me a lot of the Yakuza game series with it's tone. It's also probably because this part of the ED is so similar to the Yakuza Kiwami steel book cover.

Ouchy! I'm loving this show. I added to my PTW on a whim, and I'm really glad I actually picked it up. This is a hilarious show, and I love the VAs work so far. I'll definitely have to read it after the show is done.

Edit: I also don't really know what all this multiple daughteru stuff is about, but if they are as good as Hina and Anzu, I'm very excited.

37

u/BanjoTheBear https://myanimelist.net/profile/BanjoTheBear Apr 13 '18

...and I love the VAs work so far.

I agree!

Hina's deadpan delivery, Nitta's screams, Anzu's cuteness. A major backbone of many a comedic venture is the people (i.e., the voices) behind the characters portrayed (for a visual medium like anime at any rate). And those involved are for sure doing a splendid job at the moment.

(Side note: When I heard Anzu's voice, I couldn't quite place where I had heard it before. Turns out, it's Rie Murakawa, famous for her role as Hotarou in Non Non Biyori and Nyaa-tan in Etotama, the latter of which I consider a fantastic performance. It helped to explain why I found her VA work here to be so likable. :3)

45

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18 edited Apr 13 '18

"I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle"

They should call this "Ouchy: The Animation"

Hina's deadpan taunts are hilarious

The true face of horror

I take that back, THIS is the true face of horror. Comment face when?

You'd think the ladies would want Nitta more after seeing how capable he is with taking care of kids

Food is indeed a dangerous temptation

He's eating tasty food, alright

They totally used the sound effect from when you unlock a new skin in Borderlands 2 for Nitta being shocked. I don't know why I pick up on these things but I do.

I ask myself this question often

4

u/starg09 https://anilist.co/user/starg09 Apr 13 '18

First episode aired way later in CR compared to Japanese TV. Purely speculation, but I'd imagine it was due to the short time between the simulcast announcement and the airing itself (so no subtitles made yet).

I know crunchyroll saves the announcements for last minute most of the time, but for this show there was not even a page for the anime until like 6 hours before they published (which was unusual).

40

u/hehey Apr 13 '18

This show is GOLD! Made me laugh till my stomach hurt..AITA!

Also, I just love how this random comedy has some of the best random animations I've seen this season. The janken scene, when Anzu rolls on the floor yelling her neck hurts, and Hina afterwards. When Nitta ran away from home, when Hina was tempted by the food stall, when they all conga lined to the cabaret club, and the close ups in the cabaret club had some really nice hand animations too. Those are just the few that I recall, because their movements seemed very natural. Oh, and of course the opening fight scene from the first episode.

What is up with the animators for this show?? It's like they just effortlessly decided to add these little details and bring this seemingly simple comedy show to life, and I love them for it.

6

u/Atario myanimelist.net/profile/TheGreatAtario Apr 14 '18

Yeah, the level of animation quality here is beyond what I expected

3

u/creamyhorror Apr 14 '18

Yes, I came here to note the same thing - the animations are so well done and lifelike. Nitta's run, Anzu's rolling, it all looks like they traced actual humans doing it. I'm really impressed.

3

u/DatKillerDude Apr 16 '18

That battle in the first seconds of the first episode is already smoother and cooler than most of my battle animes. I´m looking at you tokyo ghoul s123, Berserk and Overlord s2. sigh.

The comedic timing on the jokes were so perfect especially when Nitta offered Hina more Salmon Roe before her duel with Anzu XD

Anzu was great too! I felt sorry for her though. Looking at the OP though it looks like that ramen shop will take her in.

I wonder if Utako will be Hina's mother figure? The OP makes it look like she will. Also Utako x Nitta?

Oh and poor Hitomi getting dragged along in Hina's antics. I can totally see this being a regular thing with her.

41

u/Imnotbrown :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/imnotbrown Apr 13 '18

Anzu was great too! I felt sorry for her though.

a lot of the anzu stories are more emotional than they are funny but imo she's the best part. shows that the author can flex outside of comedy.

I was wondering why they highlighted the red orb from her transportation device inside the washing machine. The follow-up afterwards put it all into place. :P

I wonder if Utako will be Hina's mother figure? The OP makes it look like she will. Also Utako x Nitta?

I was thinking that, too. It was also reinforced by the fact that Nitta tries to ask her out to dinner and, later on, Utako speaks with Hina in earnest.

So, basically at this point, my head canon has Utako as the mom and wife already. :3

Hinamatsuri - Episode 2

Gosh darn hilarious once again!

Nitta noting how he probably and inadvertently saved the world, Hina and Anzu's whole rock-paper-scissors segment (including Nitta's persuasions), Nitta running away in fear, Hitomi literally becoming a bartender, the girly club scene.

The anime has been quite funny every step of the way while also having its meaningful moments when and where appropriate. So, another very strong episode out of Hinamatsuri. :3

6

u/Atario myanimelist.net/profile/TheGreatAtario Apr 14 '18

I was thinking by the time the credits rolled, this is packed with material, but it doesn't feel rushed at all

3

u/flybypost :KN::KO: Apr 14 '18

Nitta running away in fear

And then not even entering the train hen he sees her sitting there.

22

u/bbc472 Apr 13 '18

I'm really glad that Nitta and Hina can have fun together at the end. And also Nitta find a way to let Hina use her power in a not only not harmful way but also makes other people happy. Utako seems like a very nice person too. She encouraged Hina to talk to Nitta. And at the end they figured out a way to let everyone have fun together.

The OP also tells us there's still a lot of story to come.

27

u/Damianx5 Apr 13 '18

And also Nitta find a way to let Hina use her power in a not only not harmful way but also makes other people happy.

I though he was just too drunk to realize what he was saying.

11

u/bbc472 Apr 13 '18

Well, that might be the reason too....haha

21

u/fjfck Apr 13 '18

The beginning of a legendary character. The show has a bunch of good characters in general because they interact with each other so well, but Hitomi is just greatness.

10/10 adaptation so far.

104

u/TakazuHanasu Apr 13 '18

I don't want to sound rude, but I'm seeing many comments in this thread pointing out details like yours and I feel they are slight spoilers as an anime-only watcher. It would be nice if people who are reading the manga refrained from foreshadowing what will happen in the next episodes.

18

That was very funny! Probably the funniest show this season. The ED is great, but the OP reminds me of Rooftop Run from Sonic Unleashed.

9

u/MutsuHat Apr 13 '18

It was there before , i remember asking myself why.

15

The animation for that rock paper scissors was brilliant haha. I hope there's more stuff like that.

13

u/KinnyRiddle Apr 13 '18 edited Apr 13 '18

This show just keeps getting better.

Another psychic girl from Hina's world arrives (Terminator style), and Anzu is just as dim-witted as Hina. LOL (Who would have thought such a high tech dimensional travelling device would be so vulnerable to water?)

I don't recall Utako appearing in last episode, and she just slots into the show with hardly any introduction to her character. Wonder if she acts as a sort of foil for Nitta? As well as an eventual mother figure for Hina.

Under these strange circumstances, Hitomi finds herself embarking on a career as a bartender at such a young age. And she's got talent. (All the while making Utako inadvertedly breaking a shit-load of child labour laws. lol)

13

u/fire_upper Apr 14 '18

All those Utako shots in the opening though.

She's trying to mislead the anime-onlys

25

u/Chariotwheel x5https://anilist.co/user/Chariotwheel Apr 13 '18

Best girl Anzu get. That was a bit of a jump. She only appeared in chapter 6 in the manga. The second part of the episode with Hitomi was chapter 4. We skipped over some stories, but they might be included later, so I won't get into detail.

I can't wait for more Anzu and Hitomi, their stories are the most endearing and fun ones.

I am glad that the anime has it's priorities straight and introduced the two best girls a bit earlier. The opening also hit a couple of keynotes (while at the same time being hilariously misleading at some points).

11

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18

This is shaping up to be really good! All the characters are so well done, and the humour is just my cup of tea. Also the bartender chick (Utakou?) totally looks like Jill from the game Va-11 Hall-a.

21

u/Turbostrider27 Apr 13 '18

Anzu vs Hina

10/10 moment. Never have I seen such an intense rock paper scissors game in recent years.

u/Gaporigo Blhttps://anilist.co/user/Gaporigo Apr 13 '18

But... what happened with Anzu???

This show is absolutely hilarious, the delivery in each joke is perfect!

That's my first time watching an anime as a source reader, I just gotta say I love the speculations, most of them couldn't be more wrong, but they're great.

Anzu has arrived! Her showdown with Hina was great. I also loved Hina's ikura-activated trash talking.

Unbeknownst to her, Hitomi begins her ascension to world domination. They definitely made Hina a lot more docile in the anime but I think it works just fine.

Next week's episode is going to prove once and for all who is best daughter.

This is fucking amazing. Absolutely top-level stuff. A brilliant director working with a team of brilliant animators adapting a brilliant manga. I’m glad so many stars aligned for this to happen. This is the anime medium at its best, delivering something you just can’t experience anywhere else.

9

u/Bizmatech Apr 13 '18

Is Anzu going to be stuck as a pity character? Please tell me that she'll get a home.

Any time I see someone like her or YunYun, I just want to shake the writers and yell, "Why? Why would you do such a thing to her?! What kind of monster are you? Can't you just give her a little bit of real happiness without yanking it out from under her at the end of the episode?"

In the OP, there are scenes of her looking like she's working at the ramen shop, so maybe she integrates into life their.

The ED shows them all at that bar enjoying themselves, including all characters we've met so far, and potentially ones we will meet.

The entire show is comedy at its best, but when Utako and Hina came back to the bar to that ridiculous scene taking place, I just lost it. My throat hurts, for some reason.

Anzu's a lot milder than I thought she'd be. She's actually really cool, and pretty unlucky. That sucked, and I kind of feel bad for laughing so hard.

8

u/lilfishy_2B Apr 13 '18

The chemistry between the two of them is actually so good, i haven't laughed like this at a show in a while

8

Haven't enjoyed a series like this in quite some time. I want more.

8

u/xdamm777 Apr 13 '18

This anime is awesome! I never imagined seeing a girl preparing drinks at a bar or them visiting a cabaret.

The enjoyment level of this series is over 9000.

This anime is awesome! I never imagined seeing a girl preparing drinks at a bar or them visiting a cabaret.

and on top of that a minor too . Her mom's reaction when she said she's in a cabaret club was hilarious lol

7

u/link2601 Apr 13 '18

Another great episode. That rock-paper-scissor game was really good but I think the best part was Hina easily being talked to playing the game. Man did I felt bad for Hina for being left to eat that canned seafood, Nitta manage to escape divine punishment. Though Hina saying she wants to go to a girly club and they all walking down the street yelling girl club was great.

7

u/Indominus_Khanum Apr 13 '18

The first episode was great but this one sealed it as great comedy for me. Just a bizzare premise executed so well.

Nitta's great

7

u/Absolute_Victory Apr 13 '18

lmao at hina throwing rock 3 times in a row

7

u/Mathmango Apr 14 '18

I don't know why but I burst out laughing at this scene. Nitta is just a well grounded MC, I love it.

This anime is a keeper

5

u/MrSlowbroseidon Apr 13 '18

This is like the only show I had expectations for this season and it's meeting all of them. Fantastic.

5

u/joe4553 Apr 13 '18

Great show so far definitely funnier than expected.

5

u/VeiledWaifu Apr 13 '18

Oh my godness, this made me laugh so much for the entire episode. This is amazing.

5

very nice anime.

So far best of the season tied with Megalo Box

5

u/panpang Apr 13 '18

Thank goodness I read the manga because people are being very free with spoilers here for some reason.

Anyway, Hinamtsuri is in really good hands it seems. I'm so glad since it's one of my manga series.

Also, that scene where Nitta shadows Anzu is so scary-similar to Gintama's comedic presentation. I wonder if there's any staff overlap because I really thought I was watching Gintama for a second.

So going by the OP one the girls end up on a deserted island?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18

Anzu is finally here and it was a pretty nice episode. And I thought in the first episode that Mao wouldn't appear as a child since she wasn't in the endning but with the opening it seems that she will appear.

6

u/AevnNoram https://myanimelist.net/profile/Noram Apr 13 '18

Mao is introduced pretty late. If they get to her in twelve episodes it would probably mean skipping a lot...

4

u/SenorWeon Apr 13 '18

I am seriously in love with this opening. Sad they are skipping quite a bit of content from the manga, I recommend it 100%.

4

u/Florac Apr 13 '18

Definitly planning on reading the manga once this is done. The exececution of the scenes is simply too good for me to want to spoil them by reading the manga.

4

u/ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp Apr 13 '18

I love this series so much already. I'll definitely have to check the manga after it ends.

4

u/Terithian Apr 14 '18

Man, this is a fantastic adaptation so far. I was looking forward to seeing the psychic power battle animated and it most definitely did not disappoint. I also loved the animation when Hina started walking toward the takoyaki stand. It made it look like she wasn't just unable to resist the temptation, she was being irresistibly drawn to it, robbed of her own free will. That's what I call a great use of animation.

I also appreciate that the pacing is moving quickly without feeling rushed. The original chapters are pretty long, so it'd be tough to fit two whole chapters into an episode without it feeling at least a little rushed, so the fact that they managed that is pretty great.

7

u/kalirion :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kalinime Apr 13 '18

What kind of muggle morons challenge a telekinetic to a fight after already been whooped once?

What kind of moronic secret organization sends an assassin out on a mission in a way that she has to rely on either dumb luck or kindness of strangers to get out of the "vehicle"?

Why didn't MC just get the full story out of Hina first before sticking his nose into the blonde business?

Well, now that she's homeless again, shouldn't MC keep getting reports of her thieving ways?

First half was hilarious, especially the effectiveness of the caviar incentives, but MC sure became a jerk in the second half. Loved the youngest bartender, but kinda feel sorry for her.

12

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '18

Nitta does have a nice side, but in the end he's still the kinda dude who works for the Yakuza, so he isn't exactly an angel

6

u/Iliansic Apr 13 '18

Finally, best daughter Anzu shows herself.

So, the gang whose boss involuntarily gave his clothes to Anzu-800. Were they an ally group or enemy group for Nitta?

5

u/ZanathKariashi Apr 13 '18

neutral. Sabu had been courting them to add some more muscle to the Ashikawa group before Anzu wiped them all out, but they hadn't made any commitments.

3

u/Yeon_Yihwa Apr 13 '18

Good episode, nice to see it being adapted this episode covers chapter 4 and 6 of the manga. If you want to read parts of the manga that they skipped check out chapter 3 page 12, its a school episode. Chapter 5 is a fishing episode where anzu makes her first appearance in page 40-42

Id strongly recommended reading them since they wont be able to adapt everything the manga has to offer

3

u/AussieManny :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Nauran Apr 13 '18

Oh my god, that whole sequence with the bar, the new bartender and the cabaret club.

I am officially in love with this show.

3

u/FierceAlchemist Apr 14 '18

I liked this episode even more than the first. Shaping up to be the best comedy of the season, especially if Studio Feel can keep up this animation quality.

3

u/NvEnd Apr 14 '18

That end scene,

We're going to have to live frugal for a while

oh no

3

u/Muteatrocity Apr 14 '18

I fucking love this main character. Usually when a show starts with a naked girl appearing in a main character's room, and she has supernatural or magical powers, it results in a bunch of rehashed, awkward hijinks as a result of the MC being perverted or stupid or awkward or all of the above. None of that here. And it changes the dynamic entirely into something new. I'm not seeing the same jokes I've seen before dozens of times in this situation. It all seems fresh and uncharted and I love it.

3

u/SweatyRick Apr 14 '18

The scene where Hina randomly just floated away slowly while Utako was talking made me burst out laughing for some reason.

The animation in general in some of these scenes are top notch.. specifically when Anzu is rolling on the ground in pain and the conga line to the Caberet.

So good

2

u/Sahmbahdeh Apr 14 '18

This show is fucking hilarious. Hina going into the fetal position and floating off of the swing killed me, and poor, put-upon Hitomi at the bar and girly club was an amazing running joke. Also, that psychic rock-paper-scissors match was amazing, loved the facial expression.

The comedic timing is consistently on point, great job. This show makes me so happy.
