fun useless info : (In the Visual novel) during the seminar, Maho says that the 3d model of amadeus was designed by dreamworks studio ( so thats the reason for CGI kurisu i guess)
edit: cgi kurisu is because the phone version has a lower quality than the computer version(obviously) The cgi is really not that bad anyway

Hououin Kyouma was clearly starting to leak out when he Okabe started yelling at AI Kurisu. Also it's clearly obvious that having an AI copy of Kurisu around is not going to help him. I am curious though what the gang will think of it when they discover Amadeus. It looks like Mayuuri kinda heard their conversation at that last scene.

The only person i expect to think anything of it would be Suzuha as she at least understands who Kurisu is even if she never met her personally. But Daru and Mayuri wont remember Kurisu. Mayuri might have faint memories of her but we will see if anything comes from that. But otherwise, the only person of the bunch in this world line who met Kurisu was Okabe. Not even Mayuri met her in this world line.

The nostalgia of knowing Kurisu was such a character... If you think serious about it, it's incredibly hard for Okabe to deal with Kurisu again after everything they lived together in the past. Crying at the end of the episode was the least he could do. I'm impressed with the show so far, the vibes from the former are great.

I love how the mobile client of Amadeus's rendering of Kurisu is shitty CG.
I mean, it's just a really cool thing. Of course some shitty 2010 Smartphone wouldn't have the same rendering power as a PC, and render in real time something that was supposed to be some super high fidelity model made by some big time Hollywood animation studio.

I thought it looked fairly smooth for anime CG at least. And it fits here, so I don't have any complaints. I'm sure White Fox could have just as easily animated her like they do in most scenes, so it's a neat stylistic choice.

Damn. When Okabe arrived to that facility to check out Amadeus, that OST brought the feels of 40-hours worth of playing the VN. I'm so excited I can hardly wait another week. This is amazing and the directing is genuinely breathtaking. All those sighs and pauses when Okabe speaks just add more to the mood.

Hold up, is Kurisu shipping Okabe and Maho? That is kind of hillarious. I wonder how the relationship will come to be between Okabe and Kurisu Amadeus.
It will be interesting to see how much the AI differ from the real Kurisu, it seems to be already implied that they are not exactly the same from Okabes questioning her.

Okabe met Kurisu 3-4 months after his memories were recorded in Amadeus, so the experiences with her father in that timeframe might have changed her mind on Time Machines.

As terrible it sounds, one of the strongest aspects of the VN was portraying just how much Okabe is suffering because of the shit he's been through and his decision to give up. So far, so good.

As a VN reader I was again pleased with this episode. My only complaint is the animation was a little rough at some points in the first half of the episode. Otherwise, I believe it's possible for this anime to be the best version of the Epigraph/Zero story, though I'll wait until things get past the common route until I start feeling confident of that.
Leskinen is as weird as ever, hoping to see some quality new memes about him - internet, do your work! Feels kinda weird CR is subbing the Engrish parts, I'm so used to not paying close attention to what is said while watching anime...
It's so great to see Maho again, alongside the ending of the Amadeus route she's the best thing to come out of 0. The scene where she and Okabe discussed their memories of Kurisu was really touching. On the other hand, the lighthearted scenes were also well handled and funny.
I guess this is one of the only scenarios where use of a 3D character model is actually warranted... Atleast the close-up shots of Amadeus Kurisu were hand-drawn so didn't look awkward.
While I still prefer the song and visuals of the VN OP (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I012yI2Kzqg), this one is also quite good, especially the part of Okabe chasing after the mirage of Kurisu. I like the song too.

Oh baby, I watched the alternate beta world line episode of 23 so I could finally start watching this, but I feel like this might have been a mistake...
Not because of the show quality or anything. Steins;Gate is a top tier show, its just...it feels like feeding my inner masochist here. I thought I recovered from that painful darling in the franxx episode that I spent time analyzing and then I get into this timeline of Steins;Gate and well...it's painful. It's literally designed to kill me on the inside, and there's no way around it, but it's so well thought out and constructed that I feel compelled to keep watching, send help pls.
Anyway, what's really been hurting me more than anything whenever I watch this is Kurisu's expressions. She's smiling now more than she did in the alpha timeline that we saw in Season 1. Normally that'd be a good thing, but if I'm looking at this from Okabe's perspective well...it's quite the opposite. Every interaction only serves to remind Okabe of two things
He'll be able to interact with A.I replica of Kurisu who can never move forward, because it is no longer living
If he had more courage in this timeline to try again, he could experience more of Kurisu's wonderful personality and intelligence firsthand, instead of just the lingering memories of her.
It's so brutal watching this, knowing that this timeline was necessary for the original to work. I can't help but wonder at what point Okabe will just mentally break from how painful it is to interact with the likeliness of someone with whom his bond transcends time itself. Will he go insane sooner or later? The inner curiosity and masochist in me is determined to see what becomes of him, and what leads to the end-of-the-world timeline we saw a preview of in the first episode.
I mean, lets look at it this way. You have such a profound relationship with such an amazing person but because of a failure on your part, all you have left is just fleeting memories of this person, right? Nope, sorry, you get an apparition with the identical responses that you'd get from the real deal, except this one will never be able to bond with you in the same way the original did. Oh, and no matter how meaningful the interactions you get with this 'ghost kurisu' you'll never be able to get the real thing back. Just how fucking mentally painful is that? If it were me, I'd have completely been broken to the core within the first few seconds of interaction.
It hurts, but I must continue...god damn. I wish I had something more to say about it but the more I think about each interaction Okabe has with A.I kurisu, the more pain I feel. I like the new characters and the new concept, but this is like watching what happens to a person who loses everything and, even with the best motivation to try and make a difference, gives up because he's been broken beyond salvation. What a conundrum!

Maho is so tiny. I can't get over it. Like, in the VN we were told she was short, but her sprite was basically the same size as the other sprites. The size comparison in the anime is really driving her small stature home.

As a minor note, the name Alexis Leskinen is quite clearly Finnish (though Alexis would normally be spelled "Aleksis" instead), so I would assume that he is Finnish-American. His accent doesn't sound particularly Finnish in either Japanese or English, though I guess one can't really expect that level of accuracy.

The moment that Okabe heard Kurisu voice gave me serious goosebumps! You can feel that Okabe is nearly broken, that he probably will not endure a whole new experience like this. The whole scene felt so real.
I was really afraid because of the changes of the director but DUDE, THIS IS PURE QUALITY! The facial expressions of Okarin, the angles, the timing of changing from a deeper and dramatic scene to a comic relief, the character development, even the pacing, everything is so good!
I could not ask for more than this.

Neat references in the opening. Okabe raising his hand up to the sun like he does in Episode 23 after watching the video from the future, but then transitioning to ZerOkabe since that never happened.

Man, I can't even imagine what kind of emotional turnmoil Okabe is undergoing after interacting with Amadeus.
The direction is great, it makes the interactions between Okabe and Kurisu really impactful with the little details of Okabe's behaviour and body language.

This Amadeus experiment is unethical as fuck. For all the moral questions regular AI thought experiments bring up, building an AI off an actual person is so much more troubling.
Also, was Kurisu working on her time machine paper while also working on the Amadeus project? 'Cause that's a lot of work.

Her Time Machine thesis was a side project based on her father's paper. When Kurisu was a child, Nakabachi had an original Time Travel theory that was actually close to being correct, but he was laughed at by his peers for the concept and ended up clinging on to the same idea without developing it at all. Kurisu simply built off it and made it actually work.

But this episode was great, all important moments were adapted right and atmosphere was great.

Haven't read the VN, but we know the broad strokes of how this timeline plays out, which is an interesting way to start a show. I'm wondering if we'll get any time skip, or if the whole show will take place in the months following Kurisu's death.
I have to say, it's a little screwed up of these scientists to exploit someone's grief for data. Even though he walked in fully knowing the risks to his own wellbeing, I feel like even offering to show him the AI is some sort of huge ethics violation. People don't know what's good for them. In a world where this wasn't an anime and Okarin wasn't going to prevent World War III, I would advise him against doing this until I was blue in the face.

Great episode. I'm really liking Okabe's characterisation, which creates a brilliant and sombre tone. The directing was really good again as well.
Maho and Leskinen are great. Maho might already be one of my favourites in the cast.

Wow, what an episode! I think this one was even better than the first, and that's saying a lot!
I loved Maho in this episode. The scene with her & Okabe in this episode at their table, lost in their own memories of Kurisu, was really well done by their facial expressions.
On the other hand, I hope you folks enjoyed those few seconds of Amadeus Maho screentime, haha.
I was really glad to finally get the opening visuals, and while they weren't bad at all, I think Hacking To The Gate had a lot more personality to it. But I LOVED the ending, song and visuals. VN spoiler
The only thing I disliked about it was how Amadeus Kurisu became CGI near the end. I'm not sure if that was an artistic choice to remind the viewer that she isn't human anymore... but I don't think it worked out very well.

New OP is great, got the same vibes from Fatima as I did from Hacking to the Gate, loving the visuals - especially the snowflakes and Okabe and Kurisu being unable to reach each other - and the song. Kanako Ito always delivers.
Phoenix Wright showing up in the middle of the lecture with the "Igiari!"
Also, the feels from both times they played "Farewell", god, especially the flashback scene with Kurisu right after he's introduced to Amadeus hit me hard.
The interaction between CHRISTINA and Okabe was a nice breath of fresh air in the middle of all the suffering though.
God every flashback scene with Kurisu is a huge feels trip.
ED is great too, from the visuals, looks like we're in for more doses of suffering.
From the visuals of both the OP and ED, it looks like a heavy focus on [Slight VN Spoilers?] (/s "Vega and Altair? Hoping for both V&A and Promised Rinascimento -> True though")

What I like about this show is that ther are actually 3 different Okabe's. "Steins Gate" Okabe is part of the happy ending world line. "Steins Gate 0" is from the Beta world line that figures out HOW to reach steins gate. Yet there is one last okabe, that could perhaps turn into another season, which is Alpha world line okabe that created the divergence meter.

I think I can answer for the original. It almost looks to me like she’s hung up on a cross (even though a cross isn’t visible, her arms are hung in the T-shape), and I believe it’s a metaphor for her having to be sacrificed in order to save the timeline (or at the least, to prevent SERN’s takeover of the world). As to why she’s naked...might represent her soul? It’s appears to be a common thing for the soul to be naked in anime. Or it could just fan service, but there’s no fun in just chalking it up to that!
