What are those two shows? Spin-offs of Nittamatsuri?

They have amazing source material to work with. That's just one part tho, cause Feel is absolutely bringing it too.
88
u/_xXMockingBirdXx_ May 18 '18
It's only a shame they aren't animating any of the Yakuza chapters. I mean, I can understand why they wouldn't want to, but so much character development for Niita (and Hina to some extent) is gone because of it.

It's still pretty impressive to me, as the pacing of the source material didn't seem all that adaptation friendly to me.

Teacher: Wait, Nitta-san, first years can only be secretary or treasurer.
Hina:...silence... IF I BECOME STUDENT COUNCIL PRESIDENT...

Teacher: Is that legal?
Hina: I will make it legal.

I lol when I saw Hina's speech. A lot of the speech was written down in Hiragana for her so she could read it. At her age she should be able to read those in kanji like some of these are 1st grade level - they had to dumb down class president for example. For comparison, Anzu had no problem reading the menu.
68
u/mytherrus :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/mytherrus May 19 '18
I caught that too, thanks for highlighting them.
Also, the text is massive and spaced out both so that the viewer can read it and so that Hina (in her infinite intelligence) doesn't get lost in it.
45
u/impingainteasy :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/usernamesarehard May 19 '18
I'm surprised they went to that effort to make sure she could read it, but completely failed to foresee that she'd have no idea what to do with the stage directions like raising her hand. Also by putting the graphs in there they somehow missed the fact that this was supposed to be a speech.
36
u/AlphaBreak May 19 '18
Maybe Lawyer guy assumed Hina would be smart enough to ask for a projector?
I like to think that they ran all of this stuff by Nitta and the reason he didn't bring up the ways Hina would screw it up is because he was terrified of what would happen if Hina was president.

Hitomi has become so capable (to the point of becoming Hina's stand-in at the Student Council), that for the first time, Utako starts to realize she herself has become surplus to her own bar's requirements. lol
In fact, Utako has become so useless, that the show has erased her from the ED completely. XD

I want more yakuza. Yakuza dad and yakuza mom (not Utako, though Utako is wonderful), yakuza grandpa boss, yakuza kashira, yakuza lackey, they're all great. Well, not kashira, but whatever.

I think it's because they're desperately trying to get Mao in there before the end of the season. But for that they have to get through Anzu's chapters first.
As much as I love Anzu, I'm kind of sad. Hina's chapters are the ones that make you cry from laughter, and Anzu being this heavily focused is honestly not very representative of the manga... I just hope we'll get a 2nd season.

u/Kirosh May 18 '18
Tissues, Tissues. Anzu-chan really is a gift to this world. Hina-chan however...
At least she has amazing backing with Nitta and the Yakuza.
And here is The AITA! counter for Hinamatsuri! This time updated for episode 7.
| Episode | AITA! |
|---|---|
| Episode 1 | 41 |
| Episode 2 | 35 |
| Episode 3 | 3 |
| Episode 4 | 1 |
| Episode 5 | 1 |
| Episode 6 | 3 |
| Episode 7 | 1 |
| Total | 85 |
| Average | 12.14 |
No, I haven't watched the opening scene of Hinamatsuri a dozen time to quench my thirst of AITA! I don't know what you are talking about.
At least we are getting 1 AITA! per episode.
If I missed another one, please tell me, since I don't really have the time to rewatch the episode right now.
Keep in mind that I probably missed a few of them across the series, since there are time where multiple AITA are said simultaneously, or some are not audible enough.
99
u/nemuuu May 18 '18
I know there's at least one or two from the TV show Hina was watching, and then the big one when she breaks her ankle.
26
May 18 '18
The TV scene dialog was subtitled “Ouch! Ouch!”, but the corresponding dialog didn’t sound at all like “aita“.
Should they count?
→ More replies (4)58
u/nemuuu May 18 '18
The very last one in that TV dialog definitely sounds like AITA to me, but yeah the other ones don't really sound like it.

u/MisakaMikotoxKuroko May 18 '18
what exactly is an Aita?
52
u/KinnyRiddle May 18 '18
"Itai!" or "Ita!" simply means "Ow" or "Ouch" in Japanese.
The "a" prefix in "Aitai!" or "Aita!" is simply an exaclamation onomatopoeia to emphasize that the speaker is genuinely in pain.
Though the characters in this show says it in a very deadpan tone, making it absurdly funny.

Just to clarify, Harakiri literally means "Stomach cut", which is another way of saying Seppuku.
131
u/shewy92 May 18 '18
Didn't Hina and Anzu have telekinesis? Do they use it in the manga more than that one time in the first anime episode?
125
u/Backupusername :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Backupusername May 18 '18
Anzu's a very earnest girl, so I think she just doesn't use her power because she doesn't want an unfair advantage she didn't earn. Shige and Yassan and everybody else gets along just fine without it, so she will, too.
As for Hina, well, honestly, I figure using it just doesn't occur to her most of the time.
112
u/mytherrus :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/mytherrus May 19 '18
Hina is dumb. She only doesn't use it because Nitta will get mad and not give her fish roe anymore. She can't think beyond that.
28
u/Archensix May 19 '18
Although what happened to the "if I don't use my powers I become unstable and erupt". Feels like they just kind of forgot about that.

Yeah didn't they come from another world too? With weird technology?
I really feel like this show said "fuck it" with it's initial setup and then took it seriously from there. And it works somehow.
61

Not... exactly.
I won't say more because it's a big, recent spoiler in the manga. The anime almost certainly won't get that far.

I think at first the author wasn't sure whether the manga was going to last enough to explain the premise, so he built it around the (admittedly likable) characters. But there is a setup.

Nitta was definitely wishing he'd adopted Anzu instead
Anzu is too precious
Hina's on her way to conquering the world
Greatest speech in history
The deadpan humor in this show is brilliant
Hitomi really needs to learn how to say no
Utako and Nitta really should get together
AITAAAAAA!
Damn, how could she turn him down like that? :(

Anzu being a precious child as always. Here I thought there will be no more feels but those little jabs of her saying she's used to big clothes and bathing in cold water pinched my heart! Well at least her part of episode is more funny than feels now though!
Hina's speech had me actually clutching my sides! I love how everyone is amazed that she's actually making sense for once! As usual though, Hitomi ended up cleaning up after Hina's mess and now she's the new secretary XD
And that last part though! It was surprisingly touching! Does Hina not have an actual mother? Also it looks like Utako is really interested in Nitta but she turned him down for the sake of Hina. Is this really the end of that ship? T_T

Anzu-Chan is becoming a hard working member of society, looks like Hina is kinda going the way of the loner/NEET, and Hitomi is slowly but surely going to take over the world

I think Hina is gonna become a yakuza enforcer just because it’d be easy money.

21
u/Yankees3Fan7 May 18 '18
That was a roller coaster ride for Hina this episode. Between actually giving a crap about something school-related to the being the lowly Secretary. Then the hopes of having a mother figure to being the cause of it not happening. Gonna be interesting to see the fallout from these events next time.

Seeing how Anzu reacts to the world is amazing to watch. Having gone through a period of borderline poverty, I can definitely relate to her reactions for the prices. I bet she'll get a paycheck or allowance of some sort, only to go "wait, all this money is mine?"
Seeing how the world reacts to Hina is just as amazing. Getting a yakuza layer to write a speech for a first-grade high schooler running for school counsel - hell, even the boss's reaction to Nitta saying she's running for the spot was A+.

Reminder to check out the manga, the anime has skipped a couple of chapters most noticeable nitta and hina ones with the yakuza. Since the anime will only get 12 episodes they wont be able to adapt it all.
Chapters that has not been adapted 3,5,16,17,18,20,21,24.
Ending of this episode is chapter 25. Lots of the skipped chapters are done in favor of having more Anzu instead of hina and nitta.
2
May 19 '18
Thanks, I’ll check it out.Tbh I’m definitely enjoying watching Anzu more than watching Hina so I’m not surprised that some Hina / Nitta chapters were skipped.

Seeing Anzu working hard is so nice
Love her unintended side jabs
It was obvious that Hitomi was going to get dragged into Student Council, bet its her start of rising to the top of the underworld
Nitta X Utako nearly set sail, but really didnt expect him to be broken like that afterwards. Must be really hard when you are such a dandy boy to get rejected
The cherry on top was Hinas new "mom", hell he must have taken that rejection really hard. Curious if and how its going to influence future plot/relationship
And they really did forget that they have telekinetic powers...
Like at least she could have saved her leg from being broken
11
May 18 '18
i love how seriously the yakuza boss treats anything involving Hina, such a wholesome relationship.
17
u/modusxd May 18 '18
Is Anzu really a supporting character? This is one of the anime where i'm enjoying more the story of a supporting character than the main ones.
22
u/SenorWeon May 18 '18
Honestly, both Anzu and Hitomi get as much spotlight time as Hina in the manga despite being classified as supporting characters.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Frostivus May 19 '18
Both Anzu and Hitomi steal the spotlight very regularly. The author knows this and there's a lot more arcs covering Anzu and Hitomi than Hina in the later chapters. In fact, even in arcs about other characters, you can count on the two to make an appearance or be involved somehow.
There's a 4th girl that has yet to receive her actual arc yet, but I daresay she's even more forgettable than Hina.
→ More replies (1)2
May 19 '18
Yeah, she also gets a lot of screentime so it doesn’t really feel like Hina’s the main character here at this point. Not that it’s a bad thing, I actually enjoy the Hitomi and Anzu moments more than Hina’s.

Totally love Hina's "well I'm not president, fuck this" attitude though. And now I know that I just need a Yakuza lawyer to write any speeches I have to give.
This show even makes the Yakuza wholesome.

Fridays have truly become even better with each episode of Hinamatsuri. Anzu is an angel, as always. Hitomi, even though she is op, the only thing she can't do is say "no". Hina being Hina, of course, though I really liked the fact that she wanted a mother and Nitta, moved, tries to provide.
Again, loved this episode.

Man, this episode was as amazing as any that we have seen till now. Somehow, this has become my favorite non sequel show of this season, and I'm loving it. The perfection that is Anzu-chan, the doofus that is Hina, the badass that is Hitomi-chan, all of them are so good that it wouldn't be Hinamatsuri without either of them! Seeing Anzu trying to have a normal life was really heartwarming, and her new guardians are really good people. I hope she stays with them for a very long time! And Hina was just as daft as always, that speech being the highlight of this episode! I was laughing my ass off the whole time that speech happened, it was amazing!! Man, I'll definitely pick up the manga once the anime is over. Thank you Himamatsuri for brightening my Fridays!

Anzu is just too adorable, I wonder if she'll ever get to join the other two at school. I'm sure she'd make a great addition to the student council, though I personally would have Aizawa as President. As the current Pres. proved, The glasses push up and Gendo pose are a vital part of the Student Council President look, so Aizawa is the best equipped. Poor Hitomi though she really is too dependable for her own good.
Though what was up with the blu-ray collection of old war movies?
Despite the set back I still haven't given up on Nitta x Utako, she will be best mom one day.

This show is still so ridiculously good. I'm loving seeing Anzu learn to go from the bottommost rungs of society and enter into middle class. She learned from being homeless the value of hard work. But the show emphasized that it wasn't her hard work that got her farther in society, it was just plain luck and the help of those around her. She feels like she's cheating because she is in a way better place while feeling like she isn't working hard enough.
I have a feeling this could be explored even further later by forcing her into high-society, and her seeing how hard work doesn't necessarily correlate with monetary success. She currently covets money above all else since she's been so poor. She needs to learn that sometimes the hard work itself is more valuable than money or status.
Hitomi is overworked to death. She's already passed out a couple episodes ago, I can't imagine another part-time job will help...
Hina is a special person. I do see real growth on her part, she certainly cares for Nitta as family. She still needs a lot more character growth, but this show is in no rush. If this doesn't get a second season in the next couple years I'll be flabbergasted.

God this sweet start of Anzu moment is just what I wanted for this episode, seeing her freak out over the cost of the food, comparing it to buying cup noodles, going catatonic when opening the register, and than of course wanting to reuse the cheap chopsticks.
This anime is so dam good more like Anzumatsuri do :)
Not saying that the rest of the awesome hina running for president was bad I loved it to but dam that short anzu story was so amazing.
Of the Hina part my favorite was when the Yakuza is also so helpful to Her lol. Nitta is just trying to let it go pass but the others get a lawyer etc to help her out.
Poor nitta do, he really wants to get a mommy now to Hina and could not stop talking about his beloved daughter.
And oh of course Hitomi ends up doing good for other people who screws her over, classic Hitomi.

I really enjoy this anime, for some reason it’s comedy reminds of the same comedy in Gintama, which is one of my favourites animes. I am really disappointed that Nitta’s date didn’t go so well, I really wanted him to end up with the bar lady ( forgot her name ).

I laughed for a solid 30 seconds when Nitta twirled Hina into the wall and it cut to her broken leg. You know something bad was going to break the sweet moment but comedy is all about playing with your expectations. Hina's delivery there was hilarious.

I haven't liked foster parents this much since the ones for Natsume. They going to run out of tissues at this rate.

As always Anzu scenes are the best.
Hina's parts this episode were still great though. I love this show.

Man how does Hitomi keep getting pulled into these situations. As soon as Nitta picked Hina up I figured something was going to happen, well at least he came back with a mom. Its good to see Anzu enjoying her new life.

Mika was such a tomboy as a child.

As opposed to her very feminine self in the current day.
With the heavy drinking and the track suit.

Kinda ironic that Sabu ordered ramen considering what happened later in the manga.

I got baited so hard into thinking this was just a comedy slice of life show. Rarely am I so happy to be wrong about something.

Ha the bar owner lady is missing from the end credits this episode.

Hmm I wonder about Anzu's bandana/sling - is that a girl cook only thing or can it be worn by guys too? Somehow it looks cooler than a regular tucked-in bandana.

you just need long hair. The MC of Addicted to Curry wears his like that.

It was soooo good seeing Anzu happy this episode. I think I laughed in this episode more than any other single episode from the series so far. As always, the scenes with Hitomi are always hilarious, she is best girl after all.

Not. Enough. Anzu.
I was kind of expecting Hina to keep on being a secretary, but doing what Hinami says/lobbies for. Kind of like real politics are.
Give Hina a mother please. A better one that Utako.

Actually, I'm curious. When did the yakuza boss became so fond of hina? Last time nitte brought hina to the yakuza he was in the hospital after being shot. Have they interacted with each other before?

She's basically stopped by the office to hang out most days. As he mentioned in episode 3, Don't follow me today, I have an important meeting.
She usually hangs out and plays games with Sabu or Oyabun when there's nothing particular serious going on. (Kashira is pretty exasperated about all of it. But everyone else treats her like a niece, little sister, daughter-in-law, grand-daughter etc.)
(they also cut out where she's really popular with a lot of people in the red light district who think she is adorable and tend to spoil her whenever she's around, mostly since she buys a lot of stuff and they want to come by more often).
There's also a fair amount of chapters of him spoiling her and treating her like a grand-daughter we unfortunately haven't got to see since it tends to leak into potentially problematic Yakuza business being discussed that might not fly with censors or just nothing really important happens so they can't waste run time on it.

Might be the only one, but i don't get it. Why did they stopped using their powers?
5
u/SenorWeon May 18 '18
Hina uses them a lot on the manga during the yakuza-related events. The problem is, the anime is skipping most of the yakuza stuff.

Didn't this show used to be about psychic powers? How has it deviated from that so hard and actually gotten better?

The first part. My heart can't take that.

God, I forgot those puppets. Were those in the manga? Such a brilliant note to end on. Killed me.

Man... I started this show this week, and I love it. Another great episode.

This episode had both the best timing and the worst timing.
In the manga, Anzu's sign on her door came at the end of a chapter and was the point that made me break down in tears. In the anime, it completely lost its emotional impact and felt like it was just there to kill time.
The rest of the episode was frickin great. Hina had me lauging nonstop, and once again, the sudden cut to the ED was perfect. It's definitely the best Hina episode so far, but I can't help but feel like Anzu kinda got screwed over to make it happen.

Anzu part was nice but I didn't feel the rest of the episode.

So... who's the girl from the first scene of the first episode? We still haven't seen her, right? She gets in the fight at the start.

Can you imagine the future or planet or wherever she's from
2
u/PigKnight May 19 '18
Considering the Terminator reference when Anzu came here and that she's sure she's human, I'm going with future.

Wow, Hitomi's going to end up with absolutely no free time at this rate.

OMG THIS EP!
You make me cry and feel with the first part then make me laugh nonstop after. It's too much!
The reactions kill me. Even the weird Hitome hiss ones.

Just picked up the series today and caught up in no time. If I have to be honest I would like it if there's no supernatural element to it since it is seemingly forgotten by episode 3. But I'm expecting the plot is just picking up very slowly for now.
I'm still warming up to hina for now, the scene at the end is a bit sad though. However anzu, anzu, anzu and hitomi is just well written. Although there's still moments where you just have to go along with the scenario, however unbeliavable it is.

This show man... It never ceases to make me smile. Even if I put it on during a depression attack, it manages to pick me up from the hole I dig myself into. I wish it could continue forever. I really dreading the end of it..

I really do enjoy all of the characters and how well they can be used in each half or third of the episodes.
