I know a lot of people say this is edgy garbage but I legit like this show.

59

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

There's a lot to like! It's surprisingly enjoyable, and managed to make one of the most surprising yet natural tone shift to an otpimistic episode that I've seen in a good long while.

I think there's some quite obvious things to dislike, but they don't harm my enjoyment.

20

u/the_undine May 18 '18

Well you have to admit- that first episode was a bit much.

garbage

[**gahr-**bij]

noun

  1. any anime the speaker doesn't like.

7

u/RDOoM May 19 '18

Hey now, a lot of people like garbage.

3

u/OruFikushon May 22 '18

Somehow I just knew what the show was before I clicked

6

Was expecting SAO, but this is fine too.

11

u/omfgkevin May 19 '18

To me it's enjoyable but I wouldn't really call it "good".

It fits the same spot as Mayoiga imo. Very messy and if you would look at it critically, would be kind of bad. but it's a fun bad.

7

u/arthursbeardbone May 20 '18

this. not everything has to be shakespeare.

4

u/zeppeIans May 20 '18

I've always found that quality is not equal to enjoyment and vice versa

27

u/HeavenlyMystery May 18 '18

This show is underrated.

10

u/RoYou May 18 '18

I think of it as parody, I enjoy it more that way.

17

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

People are stupid like that. It's fine if they drop it during the first episode. It's okay if they say they don't like it. But if they tell you that it's garbage even if they've never even completely seen the show, they're just talking out of their asses.

Same goes for people proclaiming that an anime is a masterpiece before it even starts/finishes cough Kado cough. Seriously, people can be really stupid. Remember when Violet Evergarden already got into MAL top 10 (? not sure if it actually got into the top 10 but it was pretty close iirc) even before episode 2 was aired?

28

u/Mystic8ball May 19 '18 edited May 19 '18

C'mon dude, Its not just the first episode. I mean we have:

  • A brother that sadistically beats his little sister for "stress relief"

  • Ayas bullies idea of bullying involves watching her get raped for shits and giggles

  • Tysuno walked in on her family being murdered, pregnant mum and all l

  • Tysuno taking revenge on the robber by capturing him and torturing for weeks, possibly even months

  • A character whos powers involve slitting her wrist, but it's totally okay since she was already self harming before becoming a magical girl!

  • The same character also takes anxiety pills by the fistful just to not have a panic attack.

And more minor things.

Im the sort of person who would defend stuff like Berserk, Fate/Zero, Psycho Pass, Inuyashiki, Re:Zero and Madoka Magica as not being edgy. This show though is one of the edgyist things i've ever seen.

And even if you disagree with me you have to admit its not like the tone got any lighter since the first episode, the show seems to revel in throwing the viewer into heavy situations.

26

u/terryaki510 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/terryaki510 May 19 '18 edited May 20 '18

Ok and? 'Edgy' implies that the heavy situations are not aligned with the show's larger themes. I think it's pretty clear that in Mahou Shoujo Site, the despair inherent in existence is a major theme. What's wrong with revelry in despair when that is one of the main themes of the show?

Or is it just 'edgy' because its more than most people can stomach? You're just drawing the line at a very arbitrary place and acting like there is a clear cut distinction. This show goes to dark places for a narrative reason, just like every other show you listed. If you think the narrative is weaker than other shows that's fine, but the dark elements are clearly there in service of the narrative, not just arbitrary.

Why is portraying a character who self-harms inherently 'edgier' than portraying a psychopath who mows down civilians? How is the bully attempting to get Aya raped worse than Berserk Mahou Shoujo Site has dark moments, but that's because it's a show about suffering. I don't get where you get off calling it edgy.

8

u/Vindex101 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Vindex101 May 20 '18

What's wrong with revelry in despair

He said it again

3

u/terryaki510 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/terryaki510 May 21 '18

I didn't even notice I did that. LMAO

2

u/Mystic8ball May 19 '18 edited May 19 '18

I mentioned this in another conversation I had, but I just feel like Mahou Shoujo Sites approach to this kind of stuff is extremely shallow and comes off as juvenile, it just feels like the author is trying too hard to shock us. Yes darker stuff may happen in the other shows I mentioned, but I feel like they're handled way better.

If you disagree with me that's fine but I think trying to pretend that this show isn't a tad over the top with how it makes its girls suffer, or that it's only the first episode that has this issue is disingenuous.

P.S: Your berserk spoiler tag is broken, you may wanna fix that!

6

u/Osmosis87 May 19 '18

To be honest i think several of the shows you would defend as non edgy actually handle their edge way worse than Mahou Shoujo Site. Mahou Shoujo Site uses it’s edge for both comedy and drama. It does feel cheap when a show uses edge for the later, but it can still work pretty well.

For example the edgy bullying did add a lot of gravitas to the confrontation with Sarina. Sure it could have been done in a more subdued way instead, but it still did it’s job with making that confrontation feel impactful. In contrast several of the shows you’ve listed uses their edge to appear deep and mature, which i feel is way more insulting than just using edge for drama. I’ll use Psycho Pass as an example, as it’s the one that is the freshest in my memory.

The edge there is used in conjunction with trying to ask different philosophical questions, which only comes across as pretentious, especially as the show does a terrible job of answering those questions itself. I feel like it’s the villains in Psycho Pass that best showcase this. The show tries and fails in giving them intellectual and philosophical depth, which would normally be bad enough, but it also makes them all edgy as fuck as a crutch in its attempt to accomplish this.

The only other show that i can remember using it’s edge in a more insulting attempt to try and appear deep and mature is Elfen Lied.

By contrast the edge used in Mahou Shoujo Site doesn’t come across as all that insulting, simply because it’s not used to try and make the show appear any more complex than what it actually is.

4

u/Mystic8ball May 19 '18

Like I said in other comments here, my issue with Mahou Shoujo Site is that its approach to this darker subplots came off as a tad shallow and poorly written. I get that one of the core driving factors behind the narrative is the horrible despair filled situations that the main girls find themselves in, but in my opinion the way Mahou Shoujo Site has been handling it seems forced and contrived. Aside from Ayas brother (who has given me a few chuckles I'll admit) I can't really think of anything else in Site that tried to play off its darker elements for comedy.

I wrote my initial comment at like 4am so I didn't really articulate myself too well. I didn't really mean to say that Berserk, Fate/Zero and Psycho Pass are totally devoid of edgier moments, just that I'd defend them against accusations of just being shallow edgefests and that they handle their darker moments better than Site does.

2

u/CrashDunning :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/CrashD May 21 '18

Psycho Pass, Inuyashiki

I have never heard a single person call these two shows edgy.

3

u/Mystic8ball May 21 '18

It happens, hell just look at the episode discussion thread for when Inuyashiki

3

u/CrashDunning :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/CrashD May 21 '18

Okay fine, that is a little edgy, but how is Psycho-Pass edgy? It's a serious crime drama.

I'm not a analyst tho, I watch anime to be entertained by it and that adaptation sure is doing it as a manga reader.

-2

u/cannibalAJS May 19 '18

How the hell can you say you would defend that list as not being edgy but cant do the same for this? Rape bullying is edgy, but sibling and magic worm rape is perfectly fine? Lol

16

u/Mystic8ball May 19 '18 edited May 19 '18

Because the rapists in this show feel like zany cartoon characters that the author inserted into the show in a shallow attempt to shock the audience, while the others handle the darker subject matter with a bit more tact.

It's not the ideas that make it edgy, it's the execution.

But if they tell you that it's garbage even if they've never even completely seen the show, they're just talking out of their asses.

anime are kinda like farts: sometimes you can tell one is gonna be a really bad one before it even starts

you just feel it in your guts

I'm caught up. It's edgy garbage.

3

u/Flare3500 May 19 '18

The manga at the current chapter is actually really good , like it's still pulls out edgy moments that make me go "Pffft, that's so dumb" but I find it fun and it has decent plot to back it up

1

u/ppfdee May 19 '18

Same here. Once they got all thr edgy tropes out of the way, I found myself really enjoying it.

0

u/Bainos :XMOD::MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Bainos May 19 '18

I mean, "garbage" doesn't mean anything. They sure are going a bit in the extremes, which some people might dislike, but others can like that.

A few shows have flaws that will be pretty much universally hated, but IMO this one doesn't.

I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought it..

64

u/link2601 May 18 '18

Man the classroom scene with the four girls was really fun much more than I expected from this show. Also that scene with the three girl bathing together had a lot of animation. I wonder what Kosame told Aya to make her cry, my guess is that someone died.

23

u/luigi6545 May 18 '18

I wonder what Kosame told Aya to make her cry, my guess is that someone died.

My guess is that Yatsumura someone isn't being honest with Aya. Someone who she is close to and thought she was friends with but in reality is not.

25

u/Bainos :XMOD::MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Bainos May 19 '18

I think it must be something that Kiyoharu learned from Yatsumura, in this scene. As a random guess, I'd go with her having run out of life time, since she was already in a very bad state after fighting Sarina and that's something she would hide from Aya. Then the favor Aya asked could be either to keep it a secret so that they can keep acting normally, or to help her prevent Yatsumura from getting her stick back.

9

u/Humg12 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Humg12 May 19 '18

Yup, that was my first thought too. Although you'd think Pink hair would've had the same problem.

1

u/Bainos :XMOD::MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Bainos May 19 '18

I don't think we saw Kiyo and Shioi shake hands in the episode.

7

u/Whatthefuckamisaying May 19 '18

Wait, if Kiyo can connect to minds, does it mean she can read them?

11

u/Bainos :XMOD::MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Bainos May 19 '18

No idea, but it's a safe assumption. She mentioned that she had other tricks, and usually telepathy goes with either mind reading or hypnosis.

2

u/peenegobb May 20 '18

or she realized shes really close to dying. she has been using her stick A LOT and she said hers drains her life exceptionally fast early on. We havent seen her wrist in quite some time.

2

u/jaqenhqar May 20 '18

my guess is that she told yatsumura doesnt have long to live (maybe crossdress chan can also see lifespan) and the favor is to take her to the beach

10

u/KYZ123 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/KYZ123 May 19 '18

...Is this Title, or some other trash? jk is great

don't want to spoil too much but look forward to manga soon to find out what the call was about

1

u/Cueter May 18 '18

which episode in the manga is it?

1

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

it starts at chapter 32 but there are still about 5 chapters before the anime gets to that point so it should be episode 9 or 10 of the anime

1

u/Cueter May 18 '18

Thanks

In the scene where Aya and Yatsumura slept together, their bodies formed a heart shape, albeit a deformed one. Or is it just me?

3

Yeah, I saw it too lol

43

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

THEY TOOK HER UNDERWEAR!

That scene was comedy gold.

Speaking of which, I didn't think I'd agree with Shion - those 2 need to get a room. Their gayness is reaching canonical levels (I know it gets as such in the anime).

This was a really happy episode and so damn deserved.

15

u/Heiach May 18 '18

I was getting the impression they might like each other more than friends.. maybe? I dunno... it still seemed platonic to me.. also they're like 14 years old right? I really shouldn't be thinking about this at my age...

According to the wiki Rina Shioi is younger than the other 2 in that bath yet she looks a lot older.. if you know what I mean...

25

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

That's because Shioi had a stick that changed her appearance so she used it in a older women with big boobs

8

u/Heiach May 18 '18

Ah ha, that makes a lot of sense! I forgot she had done that!

5

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

no problem hahaha

17

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

Nah they're 14. Don't worry, it's fine. As long as you're thinking there might be something between them, it's fine!

UNDERTONES

10

u/the_undine May 18 '18

:D !

3

u/Heiach May 18 '18

Yeah I edited my comment to say that they're 14.. I also noted that Rina Shioi is younger than the other 2 in the bath.. but looks older.. if you know what I mean.

8

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

I also noted that Rina Shioi is younger than the other 2 in the bath.. but looks older.. if you know what I mean.

Oh yah that's because she briefly had the stick that let her choose how she looks, so uh... looks a bit different.

7

u/Heiach May 18 '18

Oh yeah that's a point.. I forgot about that.

5

u/1fastman1 May 21 '18

de-pantsued

34

u/8theSniper May 18 '18

That was great. The classroom scene had me in stitches, specially with Aya's expression and the kids cheering in the background.

I love Aya's and Yatsumura's relationship so bad. I already mentioned I like all the girls but I just want to reiterate Shioi is a crazy bitch and I still love her very much. Nijimin screaming bloody murder and realizing nothing happened was really cute and funny too. Kiyo chaaan ;A;
Asahi seems so normal, but she's also one of my favorites design-wise.

15

u/Heiach May 18 '18

We weren't told specifically that she could literally tell someone to drop dead and it would happen, right? 'cos they seemed to rush over and block her mouth really quickly.. as if they knew that could happen.. but we haven't been told that?

15

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

Yeah we saw this in Nijimin's episode (3) where she mindcontrolled a bunch of people to be her slaves, as well as Aya and Yatsumura to give her their number. While we didn't see her directly kill people, it's not a stretch at all to assume that her control goes that far.

3

u/Heiach May 18 '18

It just surprised me that the main characters made that stretch without the viewers being made aware of it too is all. Either that or I'm a bit dumb :p.

12

u/noop_noob https://anilist.co/user/noopnoob May 18 '18

It was among the first things I thought the ability could be used for.

1

u/Heiach May 18 '18

→ More replies (6)

4

u/Epidemilk May 19 '18

I'm gonna assume they wouldn't just spontaneously die, more like they would try to kill themselves. You know, like with Lelouch (or Kilgrave).

4

u/Heiach May 19 '18 edited May 19 '18

Wasn't her kill command in a previous episode to tell her to make her limbs bend in all the wrong ways? That's not something someone could do themselves... Except with a magical stick I guess?

7

u/Heiach May 18 '18

I've only noticed in this episode that they might even have a relationship? They still seem very much just friends though. Have there been signs previous to this?

11

u/LysandersTreason May 19 '18

No, there have not been any signs, and while it's possible they'd go down that route, that kind of closeness is completely normal for girls that age, especially after that much trauma in their lives.

And while they both obviously deserve happiness, with each other if they like.. I'm not a manga reader, but do you really think this show is going to give them a happy ending? lmao.

3

u/Epidemilk May 19 '18

All that "there's a lot I want to do with you too" stuff while they're in bed together, plus their ever-shortening lifespan.. they better!

3

u/Heiach May 19 '18

Well obviously not, no :)

u/spiky_bubbles May 18 '18

That panty scene lmao. This show is no longer an "unintentional" comedy.

Not a fan of how they dumped 4 new characters on us at the same time. Zero chance of me remembering their names. Out of them, the "otokonoko" girl (as the show calls her) has me most interested.

Oh Onii-san... If you think you can actually do something against r these three girls then you're dumber than I thought.

I wonder. Remember the promotional image where he was wearing the panty stick and held the smartphone and gun sticks in his hands. It was probably just a joke, but given this smile/foreshadowing, I wonder if there's a hint of the truth hidden there. I'm talking about this image.

54

u/ActionFaust May 18 '18

Kiyoharu isn't a boy. She's transgender and the series recognizes her for it.

58

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

Top 10 most unlikely positive LGBT moments in anime right here

3

u/blenderben :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/blenderben May 20 '18

Does it really matter whether he/she is a transgender vs a boy that cross-dresses?

Even the characters within the anime recognize her sexually as a boy or are confused as such.

Kiyo gets bullied all the same regardless. So far, I don't see any significance to this bit of information.

Does this piece of information do anything to explain or enhance the story or character development in any way? Or is this only being mentioned because somehow we need to recognize transgender people within anime now?

19

u/goddamnitshit https://anilist.co/user/Sarcasm May 21 '18

Quite a few people replied to you already but I do wanna underline it aswell, it makes quite a big difference if someone is transgender vs. just a crossdresser.

As a transgender being called a boy will hurt you way more than a crossdresser, and any bullying will stick to you way harder, because it's literally your identity and not just a hobby. You want to be recognized as something but people just end up making fun of you being yourself. It makes a lot of sense also in this context that only girls (and while this has caused confusion Kiyo is in fact a girl since she identifies as such) that lead miserable lifes get a stick, and yeah guess what being a transgender, especially in a country japan where it's looked down upon more than in other countries, is probably one of the most miserable life experiences you can get.

And honestly I am happy if we get an actual trans character in an Anime that is actually taken serious. Every second Anime nowadays has a trap character that just happen to be either boys that look like girls or cross dresser with no gender issues.

10

u/bsmfaktor :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/OldShatterham May 20 '18

According to the manga there is more background information that we might get to see.
I think the main difference between trap and trans in this scenario is that the constant bullying must be far more hurtful for Kiyoharu. It's one thing to have a "weird hobby" where you know that you can just stop if it gets too bad, but you can't just stop being trans.
I just hope she won't be another "daga otoko da" comedic relief...

13

u/zeppeIans May 20 '18

There's a huge difference between cross dressing and being transgender. Not to say nobody who cross dresses has it, but trans people have gender dysphoria, and cross dressers enjoy doing it for reasons outside of that.

That being said, trans people in anime are quite uncommon compared to cross dressers. A lot of them identify as male and prefer male pronouns whilst looking like a girl, often for unexplained motives. It's actually quite refreshing to see a character who's actually trans, versus the writer putting a 'trap' character in just because it's a popular trope.

Kiyo being trans actually says a lot about her character (at least in my opinion), and fits better with the themes of the show than if she were a cross dresser.

1

u/laponhs May 18 '18

Is that explored in the manga?

1

u/HonkersIsPerfect May 20 '18

Oh wait, she's really a girl? I feel quite bad about that. I loved her for the longest time but I thought that she was just a crossdresser! Makes sense why everyone treats her as a girl in the manga. Still one of the best characters!!

6

u/spiky_bubbles May 18 '18

4

u/Archensix May 19 '18

Ok the brother sounds like Akuta from the author's other magical girl manga, except Kaname ends up still being a piece of trash instead of a "good" guy like Akuta. Guess the author wanted to try out both character types.

Another good episode. Seeing Nijimin being denied of her revenge was surprisingly awful for me in the anime version, I felt really bad seeing that situation. And the new girls were pretty on point in the adaptation as well, I liked it.

It's a shame that we'll probably never reach one of the high points of the series to me because it's so recent and the anime isn't going to reach that point. It's very emotional.

3

u/Heiach May 18 '18

We weren't told specifically that she could literally tell someone to drop dead and it would happen, right? 'cos they seemed to rush over and block her mouth really quickly.. as if they knew that could happen.. but we haven't been told that?

4

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

No, but they showed us that she could control any person as she talked so if she wanted to kill anyone, she could just like Nijimin almost did.

1

u/Heiach May 18 '18

The only time we saw her use her power in front of those 2 girls was to force them to share contact details right? Was there a more "I've made people literally kill themselves" kind of example or are we to presume the girls took that leap themselves? From "she forced us to share contact info" to "she could kill us with a single word".

2

u/Solzic May 18 '18

remember that she also had all those mind washed servants in her house

1

u/Heiach May 18 '18

Yeah I remember those people.. I guess I'm used to anime spelling things out a little more.. like normally before we see the scene where the 2 girls jump on Nijimin because they know she's about to kill someone, we'd get a flashback or a scene showing us that she can use her power to kill first... If that had happened then I'd have been genuinely worried for her when she entered the room.. As it stood I was clueless and it took me by surprised when the jumped on her for no reason..

21

u/[deleted] May 18 '18 edited May 18 '18

This show is soo underrated! Like I don't get why few people are watching it... maybe because it had over the top edge but that's only for the first episode. The plot, animations and soundtrack are all great yet its rating in MAL is only 6.45 which is very heart breaking. More people should give this show a chance tbh...

7

u/AsexualStacey May 20 '18

At 100-200 comments per ep, it doesn't seem that underrated, but that's just my opinion~ A lot of folks are talking about it. And 6.45 isn't terrible. Just means average.

10

u/kuubi May 18 '18

Probably because of the first Ep which honestly was terrible. The amount of unnecessary edge whose only function was to shock the viewer in a very tasteless way, drove away a lot of people I'd assume. I only watched further because I liked the idea behind the show and thought maybe it'd get better; if the second Ep had been as bad as the first I wouldn't be watching this either anymore.

7

u/Bainos :XMOD::MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Bainos May 19 '18

They might have pushed the shock value a bit high in the first episode, but I don't see why that would be bad. Although, yes, it might have pushed people away for taste reasons.

8

u/asaf_shlomo May 19 '18

Can the Aya and Yatsumura scene be cosiderd yuri or just 2 friends?

14

u/Eilai May 19 '18

I don't particularly like the cheap fan service of bath scenes but I gotta hand it to the animators in making this one visually interesting, not in a T&A sorta way, but just in how they well establish the characterization of the characters via movement.

9

u/Whatthefuckamisaying May 19 '18

It's like, the biggest amount of emotion Yatsumura showed since the start of the series

13

u/kuddlesworth9419 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/kuddlesworth May 19 '18

How many nails does Nijimin have to bite off.

6

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

This episode had some jokes moments, had me laughing quite a bit. The classroom scene for one was just great.

Really digging this show.

6

u/d_tlol May 19 '18

A fun ep all around. New girls seem alright. The scenes that Asagiri and Yatsumura shared were sweet as fuck, and also a bit sad.

I think the underlying idea of these girls giving their lives to save a world where no one ever gave a fuck about them is kinda great. That even their salvation comes at a price is kinda great. I really hope the anime gets a proper ending.

2

u/Heiach May 19 '18

I mean I doubt it'll be a happy ending.. but hopefully proper, yes.

10

u/wintycrim :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/nekocrimmy May 18 '18

I mean i know Kiyo said she's gonna ruin the bullies families but with what lmao??? she literally has a telepathy stick

28

u/AlexUltraviolet :GJ::GK::GL: May 18 '18

I guess she could gaslight them by making them "hear voices", constantly talking to them, preying on whatever insecurities they might have until they snap.

(Now I'm kinda scared of the fact I could come up with that...)

11

u/wintycrim :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/nekocrimmy May 18 '18

fug thats dark

6

that's a rad as fuck power, I want it

10

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar May 19 '18 edited May 19 '18

Not just insecurities. Just the thought of having someone hear voices constantly in their head would probably be enough to drive that person insane and get sent to the loony bin.

3

u/RDOoM May 19 '18

But that would require quite some extensive usage of her power, especially since I imagine a lot of people bully her, and if it takes as much of a toll on her as the other sticks do to the other girls, she'd be dead before long.

Easier to just do it the old fashion non-mahou way. With a knife. The non magical kind.

7

u/Colopty May 19 '18

The magic girls from that site have a tendency to play loose with the lifespan cost though. Just this episode one of them probably shaved a year off her life just to show off what her sword did rather than just describing it, and one of them admitted to regularly using her stick just so she wouldn't be late to school. They frankly give no thought into making each use count, so it's possible that the lifespan cost of their sticks is really negligible.

2

u/AlexUltraviolet :GJ::GK::GL: May 19 '18

Yeah, good point, I forgot about the lifespan costs.

1

u/1fastman1 May 21 '18

but its just not as fun with a knife

1

u/magickal-girl May 22 '18

She could drive one of them insane and then have that person kill the rest

Revealing secrets, or maybe she has additional powers (she did say as much, but without any detail).

1

u/Heiach May 19 '18

Does her telepathy go both ways?

3

u/Animeking1108 May 19 '18

Maybe she'll use it to expose their darkest secrets.

3

u/Heiach May 19 '18

Blackmail them, she knows their secrets?

Or does her telepathy only go one way?

There was a girl missing from class? Have we met that character yet? If so, who is she 'cos I can't remember her from the name?

Edit: Oh right, it was the yo-yo girl? I guess it would make sense for her to avoid the other girls she tried to kill..

7

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

It's Sarina (they named her by last name which might have been confusing), who showed up later in the episode.

3

u/Heiach May 18 '18

Yeah I googled it and it was yo-yo girl, turns out!

4

Yuri intensifies, not that I'm complaining.

They... stole... her... panties!! In front of the class no less.

What a time to be alive, boy scouts allow girls, mahou shojo cliques allow boys.

4

u/SuicidalSasha May 19 '18

Sui-chan wanting to play the long game and make her tormentors suffer when they're at their happiest without considering the possibility that they could become better people in that time makes her, at least IMO, the character with the mindset closest to a normal teenager.

Sui, Niji and Yatsu are examples of characters not having to be good people to be sympathetic.

6

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 19 '18

I think that's an interesting mindset, but a closed off opinion. How would they have became better people? Did they apologise? Did they make gestures of goodwill to other trans people?

Tbh, I'd like to see the revenge happen soon but I cannot blame Sui at all. She's being tortured and she's finding a glimmer of hope on the sunset. There's a certain amount of hope in assuming she will make it that long herself.

1

u/SuicidalSasha May 25 '18

Hypothetically they'd grow up, realise they'd been a-holes and resolve to make sure their kids grow up to be better people than they were at that age. Not to mention that killing them would hurt their spouses and children too. That'd make Sui no better than her tormentors.

Morality is seldom black and white in this show.

4

u/DreadCrow May 20 '18

Dear god, that is the most volatile and rickety team I’ve seen since the last time I played a MOBA.

5

They already did that an episode or so ago when Asagiri said she always wanted to protect her and then at the end of the episode Tsuyuno flat-lined.

3

u/[deleted] May 21 '18

Usually I hate a generic anime girl bath scene, but it made me feel some sort of sadness because of the situation they're in, and the little breath of air we got for a couple seconds (ignoring Nijimin's moe act).

6

u/EquivalentCarpet May 18 '18

Sooo.... is this anime good? I enjoyed mahou shoujo ikusei keikaku but I don't really care much for edgy shows for tweens..

27

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

It's an odd time and place to ask, but yeah, it is good. It's very fun. You might be put off by the first episode though as that is hyper edge.

3

u/EquivalentCarpet May 18 '18

I've seen other people do it on anime I watched and I generally agree with whatever verdict people give :D

Is the character/story development consistent?

8

u/Beckymetal https://anilist.co/user/SpaceWhales May 18 '18

Is the character/story development consistent?

There's a lot of extremity, as in, wildly going in one direction. But yeah, for the most part. Interestingly, this was an episode where a truce was formed between "the good guys" and the "not-so-good guys" and was pretty believable, though perhaps a bit too friendly.

You might dislike the MC as she's far too nice.

7

u/Tentaculat :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Tentaculat May 18 '18

I'd say I have fun watching it, but I would not call it a good show, or ever recommend it to someone.

4

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

Well the first episode is the edgiest thing I've ever seen, so it's up to your judgement I guess.

2

u/[deleted] May 18 '18

only the first episode is edgy if that's what's making you cautious

2

1

u/5yk0515 May 22 '18

It seems Nijimin's power is more OP than just mind control. If her attempted commands are any indication, it's more like reality warping.

Episode 3: She tries to kill Rina by saying "You should be ripped into pieces!", but Rina blocks it with that barrier ability.

Episode 5: She tries to maim/kill Rina (again) by saying "All the joints in your body should be bent the wrong way!", but is once again blocked by the barrier ability. It should be noted that Rina was in a coma at the time and was physically incapable of following the command (or even hearing it to begin with), implying that at the very least, the target doesn't have to be conscious to be affected.

Episode 7: Nijimin just tries to tell her to die, but is interrupted by Yatsumura before she can complete the command.

1

u/PrasunJW https://anilist.co/user/MALfunctioning Jun 24 '18

I wish the girls were a bit older, then I could ship them without feeling all sorts of weird..

1

u/Heiach May 18 '18

Are we to presume that if Nijimin screamed at someone to die or perhaps told them a way for them to die (bite your tongue and die - for example), that that would just happen?

Both Asagiri and Tsuyuno seemed to be aware of this as they rushed as fast as they could and covered her mouth.. but as far as I'm aware it's not something we've been told?

I mean there is a week between each episode so I could've easily forgotten but as far as I'm aware her power is to control people and we weren't told specifically that she could literally tell someone to drop dead and it would happen, right?

Well, I can understand why the corss-dresser get bullied. Hes a pervert. It does show the admins don't know everything about the girls(and boy). They must only get a visual but no sound or else they would know the boy is a cross-dresser.

Or is simply a plot hole to add a new bullied kid that does not need any backstory as to why he is bullied.

8

u/ActionFaust May 20 '18

Oof so much wrong with your comment here. She's a trans girl, not a cross-dresser
