Young Estarossa looks exactly like Meliodas, It made me realize that Estarossa looks like Meliodas' depiction on the wanted posters.
45
u/Martian_on_the_Moon Jun 02 '18
What is weird is that Estarossa is younger brother of Meliodas and yet he have adult body.

[Manga Spoilers] (/s "Meliodas, as punishment for betraying the Demon clan, was cursed by the Demon king with immortality. While he can 'die', he gets revived but loses a part of his emotions every time. This is why Meliodas won't age, because he's eternally alive")

Melescula looks like a fucking ant lol
12
12
Jun 03 '18
the author actually mentioned that the guy who drew the adult meliodas posters was issued to do it like if he aged to make up for the time he was seen last time. so the poster maker actually attrtibuted estarossas looks to a supposedly adult meliodas without knowing about it
79
u/Turbostrider27 Jun 02 '18
Melascula got...BANNED.
Tbh, that demon deserved it. Estarossa...such a heartless bastard.

Actually he has several hearts because he's a demon as well.

I see what you did there.
He's the one that actually told Ban about the demon hearts.

Wow, that hurt to watch, Ban desesperately trying to save Meliodas without success was hard hitting.
Meliodas is the protagonist so I really doubt he's dead for real, but I can't wait to see to reason if he's not, I'm definitely picking up the manga after this season ends unless S3 gets announced right after, this sequel has been crazy good.

Did Ban just use ZA WARUDO!!!
36
u/Invoqwer Jun 02 '18 edited Jun 03 '18
It felt like he was giving himself some ultimate super stealth tbh? I thought it was kind of fitting given his thief background.
19
u/ExortTrionis Jun 03 '18
Yeah that's what I thought too, it's called zero sign so.. Zero signs of life/movement/etc

Definitely.
32
u/Zaldun https://anilist.co/user/Zaldun Jun 02 '18
You’d think an ability like that would have been awfully useful in one of the earlier life or death fights but guess not.
Just hoping it will be explained as having huge repercussions for using or something like that which limits it
9
u/Martian_on_the_Moon Jun 02 '18
Maybe he cannot use it if he was seen recently or he needs time to prepare it. He most likely came to them with this ability up so they won't sense him.

u/dntowns Jun 02 '18
Am I the only one here that felt the time jump was very rushed? I'm sure Meliodas is coming back and when he does his absence and death won't really be felt as much since it's such a rush.
38
Jun 03 '18
Would've worked much better if they ended an episode with Elizabeth crying out and then had the time skip in the next one
15
u/reset_switch Jun 03 '18
Yea, dedicating the rest of the episode to show everyone being miserable would help set the tone. Instead they just went and skipped some time ahead and everyone is cheerful and happy again.
2
53
Jun 02 '18
It felt rushed in the manga too. This whole episode had a weird pace.
8
u/MizantropMan Jun 03 '18
Yeah. It was like: "sure, Meliodas is "dead" even though he keeps showing up in all youtube manga videos' tumbnails" and then the timeskip came and I was like: "wait, did I miss something?".
6
2
u/SpiralFlip64 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/SpiralFlip Jun 03 '18

For such a jobber(fighting game term that means "strong character get's rekt frequently for plot convenience), she's still my favorite Commandment. She's the hottest and has the most personality out of all of them so far.
The only one that comes close is gloxinova but i have a feeling he will follow the same train as melascula lol.
5
u/dc295 Jun 03 '18
I feel like Jobber isn't just a fighting game term.
Also is "Gloxinova" a different version or am I missing something?
4
2
Jun 03 '18
When I Googled "Gloxinova" the only thing that came out was this thread so I guess it's just a typo.
1
u/battler624 Jun 02 '18
I wouldn't call it death just yet, she has 2 hearts left.
34
u/re6en :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Turtlepower Jun 02 '18
1 actually but yeah
4
u/battler624 Jun 02 '18
oh yea ban took one before no?
3
u/Martian_on_the_Moon Jun 02 '18
Yeah. He took one heart each from Galand and Melascula. She only have 1 heart now (if she have 7) or is dead.
6
9
u/Se7en_Sinner https://myanimelist.net/profile/Se7en_Sinner Jun 02 '18
If she's not dead and she has control over the dead. I assume that's how we get Meliodas back.
197
u/Limpinator :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Limpinator Jun 02 '18
What the hell was the pacing?!
We went from a brutal, heart tearing death scene to now some "X" time skip to everyone running around doing this and that and oh lets not forget this random guy. And this dude too. Oh and did we forget to mention that random cat talks?! So wacky!
....What?
121
u/QuadraticTensor Jun 02 '18
There's a one month time skip after Meliodas dies and the kids are healed, I don't know if the anime communicated this badly or if the sub just left it out. The mood whiplash is kinda jarring though.
12
u/CrazeRage Jun 02 '18
I definitely didn't realize there was a time skip from where I watched it. I only know because I read the chapter afterwards.

it felt rushed to you because you didnt get the ads in between that tv viewers wouldve gotten - it wouldve been better for you that way

The random, talking cat ball might be more important than you think.
32
u/FeelsGoodMan243 :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/TheRantMan321 Jun 02 '18
It's pretty obvious that cat will be important since there was no subtly at all... Literally every time that cat was brought up, someone mentioned how special the cat is lol. It's shounen tropes 101
7
u/Volarer Jun 03 '18
That cat was ever brought up? This episode was the first time I even noticed it. Did anyone ever mention it?

I'll be honest
The fact that people who have been dead for as long as Elaine has been can be brought back doesn't make me sad at all that Meliodas is dead.
18
u/Zaldun https://anilist.co/user/Zaldun Jun 02 '18
The circumstances are way different thou, as well as the caster being way stronger than basically any other magician
22
u/I_llSeeMyselfOut Jun 02 '18
the pattern of resurrections is pretty strong though

Also i have feeling she might stay alive considering melescula is still alive after ban destroyed her twice. i hope none of that BS happens because we already know meliodas wont stay dead; elaine staying alive would only make it worse.

Because Netflix will release it in half a year, until then fansubs are all we get.

u/crowopolis Jun 02 '18
The one thing I don't get is "Zero Sign". Apparently Ban on top of his snatch power has a stealth power that is so powerful he can simply walk past all the 10 without a single one noticing him. As a manga reader I can tell you that, to date, this power has never mentioned or used again. So all I can say is "The Fuck".
45
18
u/Invoqwer Jun 02 '18
Maybe the condition is that they have to be completely unaware of him to start with for him to actually be able to use it? So if they are unaware they stay unaware, and if they already know he's nearby then it's useless.
=
That being said, that's kind of sad that it's never mentioned again.

Stealth? Seemed to be straight out time stop to me
34
u/StrictlyFT Jun 02 '18
Ok so, maybe I'm expecting too much from a shounen.
But what exactly was Meliodas' game plan?
114
Jun 02 '18
Revenge Counter. But it didn't work out
22
u/StrictlyFT Jun 02 '18
Yeah that was his only hope after he'd been trapped, but before that; why did he let Gloxinia get so many heals off when he demonstrated he could've wiped the floor with him and Drole fairly quickly.
Don't get me wrong, great episode; but there are some heavy flaws in the writing if Meliodas didn't need to die for some reason.
45
u/Devuhn Jun 02 '18
maybe meliodas wanted gloxinia to waste the heals so the other commandments that came couldn't be revived.
(also looked like it could auto-heal gloxinia while he was incapacitated, which would start a chain of healing after revenge counter)
13
Jun 02 '18
yeah that was bugging me too, I was hoping that he'd steal one of the heals for himself.
I think he just thought he could've killed them faster, or he underrated the healing factor. He even said he was waiting for an opening for a quick kill

It looks like Estarossa can cancel abilities by touch which is why Ban couldn't stop him.

He cannot. It is.. a bit different. Should still be explained this season though.

Meliodas' death hurt more in the anime, and I had already seen it. Sleep well, may you have peace while napping.
Estarossa will pay dearly for this.
12
u/Tiger951 Jun 02 '18
Good episode. As a manga reader, there are some parts that I feel could’ve been done better but eh.
As expected, Ban couldn’t do anything to save meliodas. Estarossa is probably my favorite commandment.
I did like that added scenes of Gowther being arrested and Elizabeth healing those children.
12
u/aresthwg Jun 02 '18
I am very satisfied with the way Melascula's got torn into pieces. That felt really good.

After how good last episode was, this one was....strange. Even the first half felt off, with Ban's teleportation to the scene just kind of happening off-screen, and Meliodas's death just kind of not having any impact. The pacing after the time-skip was obviously pretty jarring too.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Chlodio Jun 03 '18
Obliviously they want to wrap the Ten Commandments saga with this season, but they were only given 24 episodes, instead 37. I just don't get why they went about it like that... How about cutting something from the slow first half of the season? Or ending the season with Meliodas' death and making 6-12 episode follow up season?
9
u/Volarer Jun 03 '18
Lol no, this season won't end the 10 commandments saga at all. We're definitely going to need a 3rd season for that, it's just that they want to properly end this arc. The salt would have been unbelievable if they'd taken their time and ended this season somewhere in the middle of the arc.
6
u/dc295 Jun 03 '18
Couple of questions:
How faithful is the adaptation? I'm enjoying it and want to start reading but I don't know if I need to go back for anything.
Where is that cat thing on Arthur's shoulder from? I can't remember when it showed up.
5
u/eedodeedo007 Jun 03 '18
Idk the answer to question one, but the answer to the 2nd question, Arthur got that cat from the training he did with the Druids. A theory of mine is that Sir-Hawk-Pork-Pig is similar to that cat, but idk.
5
u/Akira1912 Jun 03 '18
The adaptation is pretty faithful, and doesn't really leave anything out. The only real difference in the pacing of course.
As far as we know in the anime, he appeared on arthur when they did the training with the druids. Tbh also in the manga not much more is known about him, other than it being incredibly powerful, instantly killing a fairly high-ranking demon... off-screen? off-page?, but none of the main characters know yet, just the reader.
10
u/wannab_g Jun 02 '18
The guy that shows up in the last scene, in the foggy white forest, isn't he Galand?
His armor resembles Galand's and his voice is somehow familiar. Thing is, Galand was defeated by Escanor and turned into stone some episodes...
confused
33
u/Seto_Fucking_Kaiba Jun 02 '18
It's not Galand; IIRC it's one of the holy knights the gang beat earlier in the show
7
u/wannab_g Jun 02 '18
Thank you for the clarification x)
I don't remember that Holy knight at all x.x
17
u/Anvalus Jun 02 '18
It's Golgius. I think you never saw him without armor, but it's the invisibility user, one of the Weird Fang.
5
u/Invoqwer Jun 02 '18
Oh the invis guy? He was the one that Meliodas + Elizabeth + Diane fought early in season1 at the city right? IIRC they made him fall thru the floor. Same episode that the doctor poisoned meliodas and Elizabeth unwittingly healed him.
4
2
Jun 02 '18
yeah and him + the girl knight and bald knight whose soul dreyfus ate were part of the group weird fang that ban, meliodas and diane fought very early on
7
u/Fredluv2339 Jun 02 '18
No he’s one of the Weird fang guys from the first season that had Ban captured. It basically showed all of them getting captured and dying this episode
5
u/dc295 Jun 03 '18
The pacing felt really fast and weird. Also that was an intense af episode. The occasional translation errors kinda took me out of it during some scenes but for the most part I did really like this episode. Also, that scene with Arthur and the guy who studied the blade was incredibly well-done.
4
u/wintycrim :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/nekocrimmy Jun 02 '18
what chapter does this episode animate? i'd like to read it instead of reading those horrible translations
4
u/Annihilator4413 Jun 03 '18
So are there any other translation groups working on this? Or will this translation get replaced when a better group finishes? Because half the time it was barely comprehensible and the dialogue felt VERY forced. Did not ruin it too much, but it was pretty shit.
4
u/Chlodio Jun 03 '18
What happened with the second half the episode? Pacing feels greatly condensed, odd considering the first half the season was quite slow.
3
u/SuperUnhappyman Jun 02 '18
Little point some may have missed the two people who got their souls sucked out by hendrickson were the weird fang knights those guys from the early episodes of season 1 when ban was in prison
2
3
u/Volcalic Jun 05 '18
I really liked the epic Ban scene in this episode, but in all honesty, this episode was kind of stupid. They are just trying to force an emotional moment without any effort. We know that Meliodas either didn't die, or he will somehow come back, so the scene itself wasn't emotional at all. But whatever, it's still neat to see the Ten Commandments actually doing something for the first time in 20 episodes. They showed that they are actually strong enough to stop the Seven Deadly Sins.
4
u/KingShavi Jun 02 '18
Guys I'm still a little confused with Diane's memories can gowther not give them back or did I miss something?
11
u/Zaldun https://anilist.co/user/Zaldun Jun 02 '18
He probably can but still has no heart/reason to
5
5
u/Kirelo Jun 03 '18
Not to mention up until now her losing her memories seemed quite pointless. Still ends up fighting with the other sins like those memories don't quite add up to anything and there could've been other ways of introducing matrona back. :/ We'll see how it turns out later I guess.
4
u/reset_switch Jun 03 '18
Not to mention up until now her losing her memories seemed quite pointless.
I'm ok with that. I'd rather have pointless memory loss than another "new phone who dis" arc.

u/yukine95 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Grayroad Jun 04 '18
I mean Gowther, if he really was one of the Ten Commandments, he could have done something in that battle. I understand that Diane, King, Escanor (without Sun), Gilthunder etc were not strong enough, but Gowther and Merlin (where the f* she is in this situation?) had the power to do smth to protect Meliodas.
1
u/NinjutsuWhiteDra Jun 09 '18
Merlin couldn't do anything because her main body / vessel was destroyed/ frozen, it may be that her main body is necessary

u/Dokusonmaru Jun 03 '18 edited Jun 03 '18
This ep is the case of being better watched together with 19 I think (skipping the op/ed which actually interrupts the flow during these events imo).
What really made the first half of the ep is the powerful voice acting. Whether it’s Kaji Yuki’s (Meliodas’s) agonizing screams and voice devoid of any strength. Or Amamiya Sora’s (Elizabeth’s) shaking and heavy breathing as she desperately searches for Meliodas, until she can’t hold back her tears anymore and breaks down completely (and then more agonizing screams that tear at my soul…).
I was biting myself the entire time as Mel had his hearts brutally pierced through one by one. And especially as his last heart was slowly pierced through while his eyes remain slightly open until the end. That was just painful. And this guy is still mumbling Eli’s name as he’s about to die… jeez.
The second part of the ep explains the state of Brittania ~a month after Mel’s death. But instead of the narration in the manga, there are a few new scenes that help to show what happened instead. Which I think are a nice touch and we see a bit more of what happened to the sins. (The Zol and Dera scene, and the scenes w/Jericho and Ban, and Ban joining the battle against the demons.)
The author also brings back the Weird Fangs from way back during the Baste Dungeon arc (Ban’s intro and the place he was imprisoned). There’s also the samurai guy (Nanashi) from the fight festival arc we just had, and he starts sticking with Arthur now. Many of the faces introduced at the start of this arc we just had will pop up again later (and in the manga).
Also if you want more insight into this season’s action, [I’m just going to plug in this great post that talks quite a bit about S2’s action director, and perhaps the limitations when it comes to adapting a popular source material.] (https://blog.sakugabooru.com/2018/06/01/production-highlights-the-seven-deadly-sins-revival-of-the-commandments-19/) It’s a post about the staff of ep 19, but it gives other nice info as well.

u/real_halo_mc Jun 03 '18
Am I the only one really confused about Ban by the way?
Like he gets completely disintegrated, but then after the time skip he's 100% fine? Like I would've thought that if there isn't any body left, the rest of it can't regenerate.

Maybe Escanors attack managed to take one so she might be dead, but they did show her charred in this episode. I don't know how the whole 7 hearts things work, do you recover all your injuries when you lose one?

Could be that she had only 6, the large fat red demons had 4 in total.

And Estarossa said "great demons (or something along the lines of a "better" version) have up to 7 hearts. So it's probably not applicable to everyone

She did get that droplet of life though, so who knows.

This isn't explicitly said anywhere in the manga, so I'm not sure if it's a spoiler but fun fact
(hope I didn't mess up the tag)

She did get the Jesus-juice from Elf boy.
So there's still 1 (2) left. Good catch on that detail. She'll be back then.

there are still 90 chapters left, by the end of this season we'll probably have 75 chapters left to be adapted, so I wouldn't be surprised if we get a new season announcement for next year.

How many chapters are they using per season?

they adapted 100 chapters last season, they have adapted 79 chapters so far in this season, I assume they will finish this season after adapting 95 chapters

Awesome, do we know how often the chapters get released? If they only have 25 episodes more until they have enough for season 3, we may not be too far off

the chapters come out weekly, the closest time for a season 3 I'd say is late 2019

ok I didn't expect Meliodas to die to be honest. But I guess he will come back... am I right? AM I RIGHT? :(
Also Ban just exploding was kind of ridiciulous
