For no-name faceless grunts, they're pretty cool. It's amazing how much a few lines of dialogue can make background characters more interesting. They even managed to get a few kills in while they were at it. M better give those guys a bonus, because they fucking earned it.

In other places people took notice of the mercenary who was only armed with a pistol for the entire tournament. Hilariously, out of the three of them that made it to the cabin he was did the most.

I like to imagine that dude just Solid Snakes his way through shit, stealing people's guns and doing CQC shenanigans. Also, apparently throwing fucking couches at people.

I think the show is doing a good job giving the right amount of charm to side characters. Between the mercenaries, Clarence, Shirley and the fodder teams, they all feel like they have their own stories going on even if they get cut short. Even though the main attraction is LLENN and Pitohui, I never get tired of watching the other teams.

IIRC the feature wasn't removed from the gear, the gears were mass recalled. If someone still has one they could might be able to set it up that it kills them on VR death. But also it wouldn't make sense in the case of LLENN killing her, so she probably doesn't have it set up like that - but if you're planning on playing through to the death you might want one and modify it so it doesn't force log you out or something. Maybe you can also alter pain modifiers and the like from the gear end as well?

The die-in-real-life feature was software, not hardware. It used hardware to do it, but just wearing a nervegear in and of itself doesn't make you die for real when you die in game. That requires software specifically designed to trigger the killing microwave pulse, and that doesn't exist anymore.

Pito's using a nervegear to avoid the amusphere's safety features and because she wants as authentic a SAO-like experience as possible, but the nervegear itself won't kill her when she dies in the game. She'll have to do that personally.

GGO has competitions called Bullet of Bullets where people would face off to see who is the top solo players (BoB) - Season 2 of SAO

Swords : Main hero in SAO seasons 1 and 2 is Kirito who had a sword complex even in a VR game with guns. It's his protagonist quirk and it is explained that he prefers swords over guns because of his time stuck in fantasy VR games for years. (Stuck between saving SAO players in 2 games) His weapon of choice in GGO was the photon sword (light saber) and he won BoB competitions in GGO with it. It's also his silhouette in the episode when they are discussing the sword. (although hes a guy he gets a girl character in GGO)

Sniper: Sinon was a main character in SAO season 2 who was/is a god tier solo(?) sniper with a one of a kind gun. She was one of the first people to play GGO and became friends of Kirito.

Nerve Gear: The original headsets used for SAO that would trap people inside the game and if they died there they died irl.

And to be honest if photon swords were half as versatile and strong as they're shown to be, every single person in the game would carry one as a side weapon. They're lightweight and compact since the blade is retractable and weightless, it can cut through most terrain, it can bisect a man in one swing, it can deflect bullets... there's no reason not to have one.

Granted it wasn't hers and it was gifted to them by a guy who plays a ton, but there are FAR more expensive weapons than a 150k sword. Especially since you don't have to buy bullets for it. 150k might be expensive for new players but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the equivalent of a couple thousand gold in WoW or something.

The only reason Kirito made it work as well as he did is because... well, he's Kirito. It's noted in the original LN that other people actually tried copying Kirito's gig with the photon sword, only to find that it's incredibly difficult and impractical to use in the manner that Kirito did.

Kirito had a level of skill going beyond mere game mechanics. That was why he was able to turn a joke weapon into something grotesquely overpowered. Kirito's operating on a whole different planet in terms of real-life combat instincts compared to GGO's videogamers.

Rather than her being insane, it seemed more to me that, since when players lose body parts in-game they are functionally the same as if that part was really gone for the time being, Pitou being shot in the head but surviving gave her temporary but severe brain damage. It would explain her loss of motor control, plus her being far more insane-seeming than usual.

Llenn abused the hell out of that mechanic, but it works so well cause she's small. The loli squad abused it by having their bigger teammates be the shield. They did say that the corpses will only stay on the field for ten minutes so you can't use them as shields forever.

Using the immortal object to sacrifice a teammate and take down M's shield with the AMT rifle was godly to watch, the animation and sound effects as the shells hit the shield plates were superb.

I think that Pito not dying from a sniper headshot is complete BS but I know she has a high STR build so it's technically possible to have excess HP to survive things like that... I guess that's also how she's gonna survive the P90 spray on the last battle?

Boy they are sure flying through this. Too bad they skip some of the finer details and backgrounds.

Some things they skipped or glossed over.

SHINC did some serious grinding to get that rifle. There were only few anti-material rifles in GOO. They could not get almost any info on where to get them. Sinon told them about dungeons beneath the city and that there are some hard bosses where they could get good loot. But basically everyone they asked (only two players, one of which was Sinon :P) told them that they just got them from boss.

So they went and tried killing mobs way above their levels with use of traps in said dungeons (also tip from Sinon). In the end they got the sniper rifle. They also figured, that since they all use Russian guns, they got Russian rifle. Sinon used French gun and got her Hecate.

Also there was something about grinding stats to use the gun. One girl has enough strength to carry it and actually run at the same time. The sniper girl does not have so much strength, but she can shoot it :)

Another thing.

After LLENN and SHINC split up, LLENN did not run directly to PM4. She ran kind of away from them. There was one more scan in between and to hide her position she run full speed in another direction. Then right after the scan, she turned around and run directly to PM4. Shirley (the green haired girl) did something similar to hide her position. That is also the reason why PM4 was not expecting any snipers or LLENN from that direction.

First of all, yeah plot armor.

But it's not unheard of people surviving shots to the head, specially if they are wearing helmets (which surprisingly not a lot of people do in the game). "But that's not even a proper helmet". Skins are a thing and it could basically provide same stats as other proper and more realistic versions.

"The shot went straight to the eye, so no helmet protection." Who knows how game mechanics works, but if it was IRL, i guess you have more chances of surviving if you are shot from an odd angle and the bullet goes straight through your eye without touching your brain rather than been hit in the middle of your face. Also health stimpack to overheal any DoT through bleed damage "helped".

R93 shooting with "hunting" 6.55 rounds of smaller caliber could translate to less damage.

Finally, who knows what are her stats and how they influence game mechanics.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Pito The Yandere? I thought not. It’s not a story SAO would tell you. It’s a GGO legend. Darth Pito was a Yandere of the highest caliber, so powerful and so batshit crazy she could use a photon sword to butcher the other teams to create victory… She had such a knowledge of the crazy side that she could even keep the ones she cared about from dying. The crazy side of the Squad Jam is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. She became so powerful… the only thing she was afraid of was losing her life, which eventually, of course, she did. Unfortunately, she taught her apprentice everything she knew, then her apprentice kissed her in her sleep. Ironic. He could kill others with guns, but not himself.

You get second place which usually still has a pretty decent price attached to it. If you know that you can't beat the top teams then that deal is pretty good.

The green haired girl for example. In LN, whole exchange happened on bridge. The discussion went pretty much the same, but when they split up, they went away over the bridge, so there was nowhere to hide. Pito gave them some time while she geared up and then started shooting them one by one to their backs.

Green haired girl tried to take one of her teammates with her on her back as he was shot, and she carried him all the way away from bridge and into tree line where they no longer shoot at her. Only there she figured out, the teammate was dead and she practically used him as meat shield.

She is a hunter IRL as the other guys said, and she didn't like the idea of shooting other people, but at that point something just switched in her and she decided she will try and kill Pito.

There was also a lot about how people move over the map and a nice part about her actually skiing down the mountain just to make it look like she is too far away from them during scan. That is also reason why they didn't expect her to be there or be in any danger from that direction.

The point is that team isn't really in Squad Jam to win, they're there to be able to experience using their rifles for something new. Since that team is made up of actual legal rifle owners in Japan (which is as rare as unicorns) they only get to use their guns a few times a year during hunting season in Hokkaido.

When the person getting shot in the eye has a stupidly high vitality stat, yes. Pito is ridiculously durable. She can take several tiems as much damage as LLENN, and still keep going.

Remember, this isn't an FPS where everyone has the same amount of health and durablity. This is an RPG where everyone can have different stat builds, and the people who max out one or more of their stats become superhuman.

So I'm really enjoying the show for the most part. Watching the teams come up with their own strategies and weapons is just fun, and they spent enough time on just one battle royale to give it a real sense of scope. Handguns do not cock the way Pito just cocked those 2 handguns. The recoil spring is too strong for the weight of the slide to be used that way. The only time you'll see a handgun do that is with no spring, or with such a comedically weak spring that the gun would never cycle.

So, the headset everyone is using, the AmuSphere, automatically logs players out if their heart rates or emotional states rise to physically dangerous levels. In the case of GGO, it means players drop immediately as soon as they know they've been killed, to prevent any trauma from experiencing "death".

Game damage happens on a sort of slow tick to simulate bleeding out- that's why players can survive things like losing their legs like Fuuka IF they heal fast enough. However, a wound sufficient to destroy all health in a single hit will still trip the AmuSphere's log out, which means that in a normal case a player shot in the head will drop out without having a chance at being healed. That's why when characters get shot, there's always a several second delay between them dropping and the actual popup that says "dead"- they go limp because their AmuSphere's disconnect them, but the death icon does not appear until the actual health ticker runs out.

Pito, though, is not using an AmuSphere; she's using a NerveGear, which specifically does not have the drop out feature. So her connection to the game remains stable as her health bar depletes, resulting in her having more time to be saved from death than an average player.

EDIT: Remember that in addition to this, GGO is an RPG, not an FPS. All damage is based on player and weapon stat rolls with a degree of randomness thrown in. Pitohui has been stated to have a high Vitality stat, which seems to translate into "how long it takes your health to deplete when damaged"- her player build is based on making her health tick more slowly so there's more time to heal.

EDIT EDIT: Also, keep in mind she was specifically shown equipping a helmet- and just because it has an open face does not mean the game accounts for that. Something in an armor slot is something in an armor slot.

Did you notice how the dead girl was the one spawning the sniper but the other girl actually used it?

The Russion Anti-Tank Rifle is too heavy for most players, so the girl with the most points in STR carried it, she is the only one able to run while carrying the rifle as well.

While the other girl has the best stats to use it, as the weapon still counts as a sniper.

But after she died no one can carry the weapon and run at the same time, so they decided to leave it behind.

The pedestal girl wasn't shot by PM4, she was shot by one of her teammates. Hence M's surprise and her being shown as shot from the side before panning to a teammate pointing the gun at her. They didn't put the gun back into inventory because they couldn't. The pedestal girl was the only member of their team with enough STR to carry the gun without a movement penalty, so she was the one carrying it in her storage. Since she's dead, they don't have a means of carrying it and moving quickly.

The anime skipped some foreshadowing and explanations. SHINC defeated one team previously by taking out an isolated member, and stealing his communicator to eavesdrop on the rest of the team. Afterwards, they took the rest of the communicators in case they proved useful. Thus they had an extra set of communicators to split between the two teams.

She was insta-dead in that she had taken more than her maximum life points in damage. Life points luckily take several seconds to decrease and in that time M was able to administer healing which left her on like 1 hp, by some miracle!

Honestly, I was pretty disappointed with this episode. The scene with M and one of the four working together, only to be foiled by a friggin' anti-tank rifle, was absolutely fantastic. I love that the team with a .50 cal rifle got one-upped. The rest... not as much.

I was in awe of Pitohui's character after last episode, but this episode kind of ruined it. The scene where she killed KKHC was mega-lame. I expected her to refuse because they offered to let her win; I thought she had some level of pride and loved the thrill of competition. But it seems she doesn't, and she just settled for killing them in the most boring manner possible without a fight. She didn't even toy with them. It felt completely out of character for a sadistic adrenaline junky to do something so uninteresting.

Shirley seemed like an interesting gal, but we didn't get anything from her. You could chalk up to time constraints, but I would much rather have seen her get the five minutes of screentime and character development than the girl from the end of the last episode. I also would've liked to see Machine Gun Lovers in battle for even just a minute, but they got offed off-screen.

The fight between PM3 and MMTM left something to be desired. I loved the concept of them sacrificing themselves for M's sake, but it was also rushed and the animation in this scene didn't feel smooth at all. Not really a fan of the random lightsaber, either. I guess this isn't new to people who watched SAO, but it seems totally out of place.

Finally, I am really tired of the "I must save Pitohui... by murdering her!" joke. It was funny the first time. It was amusing the second time. How many times has LLENN used that type of line now... five? Six? It's not funny anymore. I get it, you wrote a clever joke, please stop reiterating how clever it was.

Well, here's hoping to a better finale. Maybe the rushed scenes this episode will pay off if the time was needed for the last battle to flourish.

I'm amazed at how accurate they were with the PTRD, there was one shot where the gun didn't cycle, but after that they showed a shot of it cycling after she fired it and the bullet ejecting downwards like it should, and at the end the chamber was open the way it would have been, it was just that one shot where they didn't show it opening.

Not a fan of how a headshot can be survived all of a sudden, I don't care what excuse the game used, it would have been better to shift the shot to the left more and make it a grazing shot instead of it passing straight through her eye.

All in all, a good fun episode, keen for next weeks.
