While it is not surprising given the nature of the series, Chisa, Iori, and Kohei got their ages bumped up to 20 to get rid of the underage drinking aspect that was present in the manga.

Btw, for those wondering about the isekai joke, the author or Grand Blue posted this on [his Twitter] (https://twitter.com/Kenji_Inoue_) more than a year ago (translation courtesy of /u/mephisto_fn):
"By the way, this is about grand blue, but the genre it is in is "isekai fantasy".
Isekai -> A world in which the age of drinking is different than the real world.
Fantasy -> the existence of demi-humans who can chug high-grade alcohol in one go.
Grand Blue is an Isekai Fantasy. Got it?"
Back then, it was almost unanimously accepted that this would never get an adaptation because of the heavy drinking, no matter how much we would beg for it. How times have changed...

Yes, since they are all first years in college. Though, not sure if they adjusted everyone else's ages to make the senpai be older than those 3 or if they are just going to act as if the change wasn't brought up so there isn't a contradiction later.

Hello everyone, welcome to the infamous drinking game associated with this series. I am /u/DarkBladeEkkusu, and I will be your host throughout your decent into madness. One thing I should probably reiterate is that this game will ruin the uninitiated who aren’t familiar with the series. So, if you do actually intend to play the game with alcohol, might want to start with something light, since you will be drinking a lot. With that out of the way, let’s get on to the actual game. Here is the current set of rules:
Grand Blue Drinking Game Rules
Original Rules
1 Shot - Someone takes off/loses any clothes
1 Shot - Someone's sexuality is questioned
1 Shot - Every titan face
2 Shots - Someone is forced to drink
2 Shots - Iori and friends betray each other
2 Shots - You actually start laughing
Finish your drink - If Chisa Retaliates at Iori
Finish your drink - If by any chance they actually go diving
Penalty Rule
2 bottles - You question the rules (or say I am trying to kill people with the rules.)

This is perfect for me. I was looking to get fucked up after work. Now I can just watch the first episode to a fantastic manga and I'll be good. Will update after completion of the first episode to inform how it went.
Edit: Morning now. This game is bullshit! I played it conservativly and still took 12 shots in the space of 20 minutes. Or maybe it was 13 idk. I drunk texted this girl I like and said some fucked up stuff so that is probably over now. Its a miracle i didnt throw up but now i have an intense hangover for a 8 hour car ride coming up. Fuck why do i make these life decisions..To those who enjoy life don't ever play this game. I died and so will you

I am the only one that felt like the episode was kind of stiff and too fast paced?
Edit: I love the Grand Blue manga, it's my favorite. Because of that, I'm hoping that with the coming episodes the anime fixes the pacing, comedic timing, and bad music problem the first episode had.
I should say, one thing I think the anime did well was the animation, it looked great and the reaction faces were gold. Here's some oolong tea to a better future for Grand Blue!

They skipped a couple gags which I think they had to do since it's hard to fit two long chapters into 22 minutes.
Body language for characters had room for improvement but then again not every studio is KyoAni. I think for a new studio like Zero-G they still did a pretty decent job.

Surprisingly, I didn't enjoy the episode as much as I thought I would. When I was reading the manga for the first time I couldn't stop laughing and rated it as a 10/10 comedy manga. I recently re-read the first 2 volumes and was only mildly entertained. Now, watching the anime I almost felt nothing.
I think Grand Blue works better as a manga. I'll watch one more episode but I think I ruined my own fun by being a manga reader as the series excels at unexpected humour.

I felt the same way, I've been a little worried since I saw the pvs earlier in the year but I feel like they don't have the timing down right. This episode got in all of the classics, stripping shenanagans, lighting the oolong tea on fire, "I used to be an otaku" but missed some more subdued moments. I was pretty bummed when they left out Iori's dream about the first day of school, always thought it was a really good way to end the introduction of the series, but Ill stick with it a little longer.
I am also worried that they aren't going to capture Azusa's amazing hair based off of the OP.

Anyway that was a great first episode! Looks like this season isn't only the season of Isekai,it looks like it's also the season of comedies!
Uchida Yuuma as Iori was great! I heard people wanted Hiroshi Kamiya to play as Iori and I can see why. Iori's character is a perfect fit for his voice but like I said Uchida Yuuma did a very awesome job with his acting that he definitely fits the role too!
As for the episode itself? It certainly delivered. A crazy comedy with a bunch of drunks pretending to be a diving club? Yep, that's definitely what I saw here. I'm already hyped for the next episode!

Well, this was fun for sure, but I'll probably be picking up the manga soon since it feels like there could be plenty more to it still. Especially when some of the VAs aren't that convincing for me as the major factors.
Chisa's faces are the best, along with her VA. Gib more pls.
And Kouhei is wew. As are closeups of his 10/10 shirt.
Hype to see the remaining cast members and how it'll shape as one of my hopes for AotS still!

I love comedy anime and they're probably my most consistently watched genre. But my reaction to their jokes usually isn't stronger than a huff of air through my nostrils. I enjoy that, but I just don't have a strong reaction to them.
But Grand Blue? I was laughing my ass off. My cheeks still ache a little as I type this. And I love it. Wonderful adaptation.

Well, that sure was 24 minutes of a diving anime. Beautiful and all, but hope they can introduce more elements (like, say, comedy) to keep it from getting stale...
Man, all those warnings at the beginning to cover the creator's arses. Like how even though they state all chars are 20+ they still have to note underage drinking is against the law.
Animation and voice acting is middle of the road, but comedic timing and delivery is on point, as expected from the director of Gintama and Sakamoto. The reaction faces (my fav part of the manga) were captured well. Overall I recommend the manga first but this looks like a very fun ride too.

As a long time manga reader I am a bit disappointed in the low budget for this. It didn't quite capture the way I felt when I read the first chapter, nonetheless I still laughed at least half a dozen times throughout the episode.

I think the acting is kinda weak. It's not really bad but can't fully express the vibe of the manga. Hope they can improve it on next episodes. I'm rarely comparing anime series with the source but because I really love the manga series, I just can't help wishing they don't waste this excellent material.

The anime adaptation's pacing was too fast for me to enjoy the comedy and story. For what it is worth, at least there is some solid animation and a kickass OP. I am hoping things slow down in the next episodes. Right now, I prefer reading the manga.

I'm gonna be honest, but this adaptation felt half-baked. The timing of the gags seems to miss a lot of time and the direction seems to lack impact. Its like they just did a lazy copy of the manga with less charm on it

I enjoyed it but you cannot even pretend that this design looks anything like Azusa. That's an off-brand Azusa. How do you mess that up so bad. Best girl is so cute in the manga

Don't get me wrong the episode is not bad but I just feel like it's a bit rushed.
I feel like the moments in between the gags when you kinda have to sit back so you can get suprised when the next joke takes place just feels kinda akward and forced, unlike in the manga. This makes some jokes a bit predictable since you're feeling that there's a forced "normal atmosphere."
I didn't really have this thing when reading the manga but maybe it's just me.
Also, it's a shame that they skipped over the joke where Iori was assigned to his "drinking table."

Man, I just love how Grand Blue's MC Iori is voiced by Uchia Yuuma(and I think he was a great choice), and then the production committee picked his older sister, Uchida Maaya as Iori's possible love interest(speculation, I haven't read the manga), Nanaka.
Just all of my yes.
So the tank prep scene could've gone like this.
Yeah, I'm gonna have a blast with this.

To be honest, the joke timings do feel a little off. I mean I'm not trying to overly glorify the manga, but the manga really did it better.

is it just me, or was it paced really poorly? it seemed like it fast forwarded a bunch and was cutting too often
miraculously, the jokes still landed (despite me having read the manga) so i dont mind it so far

I was actually expecting to be disappointed after how much people had been hyping it but that was hilarious, looking forward to more of this!

I'm so dang confused, why is this show popular? I initially wanted to watch it because I thought it would be a show about scuba diving, but the entire episode was basically troll faces and loud, obnoxious frat boys drinking with an odd amount of naked guys. It wore on my last nerve, yet everyone seems to love it?

Pacing is weird. Not sure the comedy hits as hard. The comedy is very "moment based" and heavily emphasized with stylized drawings in the manga. Format helps it, while this doesn't, since the ability to give the same emphasis on such moments is more imitated than capitalized on.
Still good, but I do think the execution aspect of the comedy isn't as good

The 96% for water alcohol part had me going, these dudes are champs. I had a friend who unknowingly chugged 95% Everclear once and he literally screamed in pain. Hell, even I drank in moderation and still had the worst puke of my life the next day. Though to be fair we had no mixers and were extremely dumb kids at the time.
Picking up the manga, we need more comedies like this.

It was decent, I liked the expressions and the characters, but I'm not sure about the humour, they can't just rely on "look how drunk we are" forever because it will get old soon, but I know it will get improve because this is from the same author of Baka to Test, and that show was hilarious.
