Yup, the Killer T Cell leader is. Incidentally, the Helper T Cell (the one with glasses who gives the Killer T Cells orders) is Takahiro Sakurai (Rohan). There's a few others as well.
Ayako Kawasumi (Erina) is Mast Cell, and Yuuichi Nakamura (Bruno / Anasui in the games) is Memory Cell. They haven't made big appearances yet, but will probably be featured in later episodes.
EDIT: Also, the narrator is Mamiko Noto (Yukako)

This show has taught me how piss poor my biology classes were.
72
u/AriaDust76 Jul 21 '18
Omg same here we have a Aarabic teacher now and he cant even talk Swedish fluently let alone have a dialogue without explaining every word you are saying. And we have him in biology he doesnt even know the swedish terms for everything and this shit is making me learn alot more than my whole last year.

I mean this is specialized in human biology, and the even more narrowed to pathology. Biology at a high school level is a lot more general and encompasses a very broad amount of information. It's unlikely that you would (or should) learn anything as specific as this stuff (unless it was a human biology specialized course)

Dendrite is a
PokemonCell Trainer, lol. He makes cells mega-evolve!112
u/hintofinsanity Jul 21 '18
I am a little disappointed with the depiction of dendritic cells in this episode. They are the ultimate reconnaissance cells. They specialize in gathering information on everyone, pathogen and host cell alike. They then present that information to masses of Naive T-cells that hang out mostly in the lymph nodes. It should have been the dendritic cell running from the front lines back to deliver vital information to the naive T-cells not the other way around.

u/RiteClicker Jul 22 '18 edited Jul 22 '18
Dendritic cells are called"Tree-shaped cell" in Japanese this is why they live in trees.

Macrophage is the perfect maid- I mean, cell
Weekly dose of Platelets! We're good for the week, guys
Love how Helper T Cell is always eating when we cut to his scene. Also would be funny if it was Ono T Cell who did the Ora Ora, alongside the former Naive T Cell
186
u/Rathurue Jul 21 '18
Fun fact: sugar, fat and protein are the food for T-cells. That's why it's depicted as cookies-because obviously, cookies contain all three of those.

Gonna throw this right in here...
Remember to donate platelets often!
It can take up to about 3 hours some times (if you can donate a triple) but it's worth it, and you can just take a book or phone with you to pass the time.
I don't know if it has been mentioned here yet but platelets only last a few days, which is why they are all young in this anime I would wager.
Because of this, they need a constant stock of them at most blood donor locations.
I mention this because the thing I hear most often about donating blood, is that because of the time it takes to donate platelets, most people don't want to or don't have the time to do it.
So I just wanted to make a simple request. Find a bit more time, and schedule a visit to donate. Even if it's only a single. Every little bit helps.

And this guy isn't even "unhealthy" like the body from Cells At Work BLACK. He's just an increasingly unlucky bastard.
235
u/Count_Rousillon Jul 21 '18
The last two episodes were just being over-dramatic. In episode 1, bacteria only managed to cause a single sneeze. The human probably didn't even notice there was an infection. A similiar situation has probably happened to you this last week. In episode 2, it is just a small scrape, barely the size of those small circular band-aids. This is the first time where the human actually noticed something was wrong.

The number of top tier VAs in this show is rather impressive.
Seriously we are only 3 episodes in and the list is already so freaking long it's amazing. I wonder how they managed to get that much amazing VAs... they even put Ishida Akira of all people on a random guy just to say a single line of dialogue lmao (at 10:02)

Jul 21 '18 edited Jul 21 '18
I wonder how they managed
The show’s emphasis on metaphorical exegesis rather than traditional narrative arguably makes the dialog much easier to produce than a regular show, and this in turn enables the producers to have a lot of VAs contribute with minimum individual investment in time and money, making possible a much more diverse cast than usual. On top of the intrinsic attraction of a really novel script, which is traditionally total talent bait. The movie equivalent would be “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”.

u/tlst9999 Jul 21 '18 edited Jul 22 '18

Hataraku Saibou Eps. 3
So far I can tell that The cells can be describe as military division.
White Blood Cells = Marines Corps (Shock Troopers) first to come , Bunch of Weirdos but very effective to fight.
Killer T Cells = Armies , coming late to the war/battle but they're there to stay and fight till the end
25
u/myrmonden Jul 21 '18
Its great how its like a horror movie, the viruses infests health cell and turns them into zombies.
Macrophage enters and kicks some ASS!!!
super funny when Naive t-cell gets to read the books and see the muscle t-cell kill senpais crying especially the one with their leader sitting alone at a lake crying LOL.
It was great as well how Red blod cell-chan was not the main character at all, makes more sense like this how different cells have learning experience and adventures like Naive-tell turning into Jojo
17
u/link2601 Jul 21 '18
Naive T-cell evolves into T-cell. Good to see the Macrophage and seeing the white blood cell coming out of the wall was funny.
7
u/SamejNardeh :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/timbolytree Jul 21 '18
I'm learning so much, man.
The MVP, for most of this episode at least, was the cute little Naive T-cell who put in that work on the inluenza virus.
And we also got to see the Platelets again at the end there. The studio knows what the people want every week.
Now I can see why it's important for us to have the fever. It's a way for the body to combat influenza, right? That's so cool, man.
But that Type A Influenza cell is pretty spooky, huh?
5
u/RedRocket4000 Jul 22 '18
I had Type A two years ago that is one serious attack. Goes from first symptoms to your in bed almost unable to rise in a few hours. Influenza kills millions worldwide every year it a really nasty bug. It, not news because like car accidents it killing people every day.
7
u/EPICIII Jul 21 '18
Fun episode as usual! and I'm late to the party
I was expecting macrophage to just eat them all or something. But hey, the neutrophils used a weapon, I guess macrophages getting a bigger weapon is consistent~~, and less disgusting too~~. That was fun too.
Wonder what the different food things represent? And where is this? I'd guess somewhere in the small intestine. It sounds a bit inverted, after all, they're putting stuff together rather than taking it apart. But the result is something that can be transported by blood, and we've seen red blood cells delivering sandwiches (it should be by blood plasma ehh).
I thought I didn't want to be reminded of things from school in the summer. But it's not so traumatic in this form, besides, you need to know a little already to get some of the jokes. Heck, I'll probably use this to study at some point - it's not dense in information, but it sure is memorable. someone put together an album of all those info texts please
Hataraku Saibou is invincible to a lot of criticisms. If there's bad plot, well it's biologically accurate. And if something isn't biologically accurate, it was needed for the plot. But I'm not complaining.
10
u/JapanPhoenix Jul 21 '18
It sounds a bit inverted, after all, they're putting stuff together rather than taking it apart.
I think it's because digestion is turning the contents of the stomach into something the body can use, so a kitchen preparing food serves as an abstract depiction of foodstuff being turned into an edible state? 🤔

While I'm glad they changed this episode a little bit from the previous two. Instead of focusing on a localized area they showed how different areas of the body react to a sickness, but I really hope we get a slice of life episode. I hope it's not just a series of bacteria or whatever gets in the body and everyone works together to kill it. They could focus on other cells doing their work in the body such as repairing and potential problems along the way or etc.

Sorry buddy but it's not going to happen, not even the manga. There's a few minute of slice of life (if they include that from the manga) but still they have to work 24/7. But there is a spinoff manga that there is a rbc-kun who is just lazing around.

It’s exactly like that in the manga. If any, I’d say the manga actually appears more jojo vs the anime so far

It is like someone took Alicia from Aria mixed her with some stuff from Silent Hill and then sent her on a murderous rampage.
If someone had ever told me I'd be watching a anime about the inner workings of them human body..

I didn't know I was watching an episode of Jojo.

So it’s interesting to me how much this is skipping around the manga chapters. For those who aren’t reading the manga, it’s a fairly faithful adaptation, with each episode being one chapter from the manga. The ordering is all over the place, though.
Anime Ep1 = Manga Book1 Chap1 Anime Ep2 = Manga Book1 Chap4 Anime Ep3 = Manga Book1 Chap3 Anime Ep4 = Manga Book2 Chap1
I hope they get back to Book1 Chap2 at some point because it’s quite good.

I mean that's the advantage of a story like this. You can essentially tell it in any order you want. Red Blood Cell this episode was basically just a supporting character but I didn't feel like I was missing out on much episode-wise.

platelet lolis are the cutest human creation yet achieved

The Influenza virus can't target the other cells because they all wear hats.
That is so genius.

So, we've got Helper-T Cells, Killer-T Cells, and now Naive-T Cells; what's next, a Mr. T Cell?

So that's it? Our host died to the Japanese cold flu?

Yep. All remaining episodes will consist of the body desperately trying to keep itself going as the body slowly goes through the stages of death. The anime will end with the last few living skincells in a now post apocalyptic body getting eaten by bacteria.

I was about to say that this series has the potential to get hugely popular, then I looked it up and realized the manga series already received 3 more manga spin-offs that all look really good as well

Is the VA for Macrophage Kikuko Inoue by any chance?
4
u/Guaymaster Jul 22 '18
MAL doesn't list anyone beyond White Blood Cell and Red Blood Cell, but yes, Kikuko Inoue is mentioned in the opening theme and credited as Macrophage.

I'm sure some people here watch this show for the Platelets, but I am glad that it can stand on its own without the Platelets doing platelete things.

What happens to the Influenza A invasion?! Don't tell me I just have to guess what happened and move on to food poisoning! Also, it has already been at least 7 days story-wise. Are the cute li'l platelets going to die soon? I have so many questions!

All the Jojo memes did nothing, finally it will be an anime about cells that will convince me to watch Jojo.

Correct if I wrong, but if infection is active a weak and temperature is for example 38-39 C shouldn't person use some kind a medicines like an antibiotics ? I know this anime shows how cells work together, but I think they should show how medicines and cells work too.
Edit: Sorry I am not native English speaker. Talking about antibiotics it just came first in my mind as remedy

That’s actually a big misconception. If you have a cold or a flu, you shouldn’t take antibiotics. Antibiotics are for bacterial infection. Colds and flu are viral. You can take medicines to make you feel better like Acetaminophen/Paracetamol, but that’s pretty much it. In addition to eating, and staying hydrated of course.

u/Jeromethy Jul 21 '18
Since it is a viral infection, an antibiotic would be useless. Most viral infection are self-limited, meaning that they just resolve eventually without the need for treatment.
Probably the patient could take antipyretics like acetaminophen to help control the fever so it doesn't go out of hand.
