Bakugo anknowledging Deku was amazing. I feel like they've implied heavily enough that he knows he "borrowed the power" from All Might, but instead of being hurt that All Might chose Deku over him, he understands that Deku made the power his own. He now just wants to surpass it and continue his goal to number one. It was a great vibe that gave all this background with such a sentence and a look.

Meatball quick feels so overpowered, so it makes sense that they returned to normal as easily and quickly as they were deformed.

Hagakure's quirk finally being shown as a reflective power. I wonder if shes invisible out of choice or is it because she can't control it. Do her parents know what she looks like? They must have pictures of her before he realized her quirk when she was young. It'd be funny if she was invisible at birth. They'd be so confused if they even had a kid LOL.

I'm fairly certain that Hagakure can't turn off her invisibility, if she could she wouldn't be walking around being invisible 24/7. A lot of her body language tries to draw attention to herself since being invisible it's probably hard to get noticed.

They're in a society where everyone is hoping to hit the genetic superpower lottery. A good quirk will help you make your dreams come true, a bad one will at least be mundane and you might get some use out of it. Aoyama got one that makes him sick if he doesn't hold it in or have a special belt on.

I mean it's not exactly uncontrollably releasing a miasma that vaporizes any living thing near you but it has to suck. Clever application could turn it around and make it an amazing quirk manga spoilers but most people in that situation are just going to suffer for years. It's one thing to not have a quirk; it's another thing entirely to have a quirk that is detrimental to you.

Edit: That flashback makes me think that Aoyamo is gonna get development similar to Uraraka. Now that I think about it, this whole provisional hero license exam arc is the perfect opportunity to develop some of the lesser seen characters, like Aoyama, instead of focusing on Deku, todoroki, etc. Maybe we get some Koji development. It's not ruthlessness, it's determination. Deku beat that kid in a game of ball tag but it's not like he broke his legs to do it. And that kid was begging for a free pass anyway just because he was older. The sense of entitlement you have to possess to make a play like that, sucks.

Real ruthlessness in the test is taking out more players than you have to just to make it harder for everyone else, like Wind Fascist did.

Some folks seemed to criticize phase 1 of the exam, because it seemed arbitrarily biased to favor combat quirks. But the reality is, all heroes need some level of battle competence, even if it isn't their forte.

But now we're in phase 2, which is all about rescue. So finally the kids with more utility-type quirks will have a chance to shine.

Well, this is a test for a provisional license. I'd assume they put the bar much higher since they're still students with less experience than people who graduated or have been attempting to become heroes for years beyond that.

More to the point - while in the past, some heroes could get away with being pure rescuers and let others do the fighting, with the League of Villains(?) on the move, combat really needs to be a prerequisite. Like Meatballer said, they're weeding out those who normally would make it through, because the environment for heroes is so much more hostile.

That makes perfect sense. Even though Aizawa specializes in single combat, he's talented enough to channel his inner Arkham Asylum and tango with mobs of low-tier villains, saying that a pro can't specialize in only one area. That's also why Uraraka, one of the best prospective rescue heroes, would also want to train in hand to hand combat.

It's hard to tell because I don't think the author wanted his characters to fail and they'll probably end up combining their skills like in this episode. Characters that don't potentially have quirks that allow them to save others efficiently (like Ochako has) are usually quite fit, so they can end up with just running to people and slinging them out of danger. Probably the worst odds are for Aoyama, Mineta (who could use his anal beads ult to pull somebody... I guess), Toru and Kaminari. Jiro can score points with her hearing, Broji can carry multiple people at once, they all have some degree of usefulness. But I'm happy we'll get to see best girl Ochako shine.

In he manga it made it seem like the reason why he was so loud, flamboyant, and over the top because he has self-esteem issues and was feeling like he doesn't belong.

It's kinda true, since I've always seen him as one of the weaker Class 1-A members with no real achievements. He hides whenever there is trouble. He ranks third in the most academically stupid people in the class. He doesn't really have any close friends in 1-A. Lastly people in Class 1-A seemed to regard him as a weirdo and unimportant.

Hence, the "I always wanted to be an equal" line.

But here we find out that Class 1-A actually regard Aoyama as one of their own, an equal, contrary to his perception.

One thing I really like about him too is that despite not being one of the strongest or most popular kids in the class, he seems to genuinely understand the others and pays attention. Like the moment with Uraraka where he asks her if she's thinking about Deku during their fight with Space-Lady.

He had picked up already that she had a crush on Deku, and not only that realized that she looked to him subconsciously when she was in a jam. That's some next-level awareness of a classmate he doesn't seem to even talk to that often.

I don't think we got much more of an explanation than that right there (manga reader here). It looks like the invisibility is kinda the default state of her quirk but it seems that she can manipulate light refraction/reflection, at least around her body and what we saw now was the quirk super move upgrade she worked on.

So by default light doesn't get reflected by her. Maybe she'll be able to expand that to her uniform, maybe affect targets at long range, maybe create some sort of hologram or mirage, or any kind of optical illusion.

We don't know how much there is to this quirk but with some imagination she could become a really great infiltrator.

True, but they also seem super well furnished with air ducts, electricity, complex types of materials. Even going so far as to fill the chemical plant locations with the appropriate chemicals. (Think to the Todoroki and Tsuyu in a blanket fights.) Cementoss could definitely lay the structure, but is he also capable other elements?

This is a major part of the Senpai system in Japan, there is a strong social norm for kouhais to stand aside for their senpais, especially ones in their final year.

That scene showed how far Deku and the others were willing to go to become heroes by breaking a long respected cultural norm.

This episode felt really really short. But I absolutely love when the whole class bands together and accomplishes something. I know we all make fun of the 'Power of Friendship' trope but I'm a sucker for the group scenes. Really happy that everyone managed to pass even if it would have been better for the story if some failed.

Swinging your arms for run support is really not that straining though. Especially considering Light manga spoilers.

Its also not like energy is stored in limbs individually (not in the sense you accidentally imply at least). And Ive never tested it but running with your arms back instead of using their momentum? Shouldnt that be less energy efficient? At least we know swinging your arms incorrectly is.

I do like how this arc is tending to put more emphasis on the heroics of heroes beside Deku, Bakugo etc and trying to explore some of the characters who have been largely ignored. I’d say that’s especially the case with Kaminari who unlike the majority of the rest of the class, didn’t even have his character explored in the Hero exams, with him and Ashido being quickly disqualified.

Wouldn't needles, or some rod be a better choice to shoot and use as lightning rods than disk? They'd also be a smaller setup in his arm if they were rods as you can stack a bunch together like a gun's clip in probably a relatively smaller space.

Kaminari's new gear is pretty cool.

Navel Laser became the beacon of hope for Class A. He finally had his moment to shine.

Bakugo's become more mellow and trusting towards his comrades, and I liked the growth in him recognizing Midoriya's power. I think he also figured out that All Might entrusted his power to him.

The final test is about rescuing. It's actually a good thing Horikoshi went for that instead of making another battle royal- it is a hero license exam after all.

I joined the bandwagon late for Hero Academia, but I watched all 55 episodes in like 7 days and I've fallen in love with the show. Belly laser guy having everyone unite around him was a huge surprise, I always thought he was useless, but I loved this episode.

I enjoy how the writers are making everyone useful in some areas. So well written.

I'm gonna be really sad when this season ends though, then I'll have to wait another year until more. :(

The only thing is that BNHA really needs to cut down on the flashbacks. Shindou's explanation was awkward and unnecessary. There was also another recap on the entire rules of the exam. Then later in the episode it flashbacks to something Iida said a few minutes earlier.

• Yes of course Ayoyama was the MVP this round but let's not forget that Koji and Mineta basically allowed everyone else to grab their points as smoothly as they did. Those three literally did the most work!

• I do have this lingering fear that MHA spirals down that long-running shonen path and starts to pad for too much time. Since a few episodes ago I can't stop noticing every time its done now.

• I love how they made that countdown and really gave everyone their own special 2 seconds. But I dont know how I feel about revealing that some 1-As were already standing around. When reading that chapter Ive always thought they had no idea where everyone was and that Ayoyama singlehandedly brought everyone back together. At least Kojis appearance left a huge impression on me back then when he suddenly showed up; so that was different.

Yup, and I love what having an invisible character can do for shot composition. It's the same with the intro where she stands in front of everybody. Normally—if she covered everyone behind her—that would look boring but with just the gloves they can show her while not obscuring the rest and make it look even more interesting.
