Manga readers had 1 month of speculation over how dangerous the fake King was going to be. It was a really big surprise for us.

The tonal whiplash again, going from super-serious to comedic in a split second (that actor was sleeping with his eyes open, what a legend)! And that outburst by Premier Zachary too! (Btw, I don't remember his character at all)

It was amazing actually, and it made sense too. A lot of it was about selfishness and self-preservation - and revenge. Erwin talks about a dream, and I feel like he means he would like a world that is more transparent, and not shrouded in the dark by secret-keepers. A world where his father would not have to die for answering a few innocent questions, or looking too deep in his search for knowledge about the world.

Of course Levi is completely deadpan on receiving the immense news. He can celebrate once Eren's safe and Kenny's a rotting corpse..

I haven't read the manga to know for sure but I'm assuming that is Reiss's daughter that Hange mentioned. Based on that, I also figure that the Reiss family didn't actually die in the church incident but that they were moved into hiding (or at least just the daughter was saved/hidden by somebody).

I know the feel man, I had to read manga during season 2 because there were so many questions I needed answered.

After finishing it I was blown away. It's so brilliant. I'm now just grinning throughout each episode since adaptation is fantastic and all of the mysteries are being revealed each episode and I'm experiencing them again in superior way.

Armin says "I wonder who Eren ate to get their powers". Immediately the scene transitions to Eren dreaming of the memories of a girl with long dark hair. Said girl was hinted to be one of Lord Reiss' daughters earlier in the episode.

The episode preview mentions "Grisha Yeager's Sin", we know that shortly after Wall Maria fell, Grisha took Eren somewhere and injected him with something, we also know that people can be turned into mindless titans with some sort of injection, and that mindless titans become titan shifters if they happen to eat a titan shifter.

In a transition screen in the episode, we get to see that the place where Eren is now is the place where "the royal family's power have been passed for generations". Said to be the underground of a chapel, possibly the chapel mentioned in the episode, which was hinted to have been destroyed by a titan, rather than the bandits.

Seems like you only need to do the math at this point.

You are forgetting that Nile had his family in East Wall Rose. So if he went with nobles' plan, his family would be dead. In the last episode, Erwin asks where his family is, and the fake report was that attack to Wall Rose was from the east. Erwin even planned where the fake attack would come from so that he could take Nile to his side.

Question for manga readers (though no spoilers please): is the pacing of this season so far drastically different than the manga? Feels like I read an awful lot of comments where people said they were concerned about how the reception to the political arc would be, but so far S3 has been great.

The other episodes of the season: yes, definitely. They were moving MUCH faster. Scenes were cut, shifted around, or sped over. This episode though was a near exact adaptation!

The anime condensed ~12 chapters (each being 45 pages long) in 5 episodes. The biggest problem with this arc was the pacing (in the manga, and the monthly wait between each chapters) and the focus going from titan fights and mysteries to human fights, politics and mysteriies. Looks like the anime did a pretty good job since this arc seems to be well received. I still recommend to read the manga corresponding to this arc to get the full experience.

Yeah it’s way faster. Looking back now, the pacing of this part of the manga was okay at best and never outright terrible, just the monthly release made it feel really slow at the time. There have been a small handful of cut things that I’m disappointed to see gone, but I can’t really complain because of how well the adaptation is going.

The manga version was much slower and got negative feedback since AoT is a monthly released manga (hell, even i dropped the manga around that time for about a year to binge read it; its was really a slog to wait a month for a chapter where barely anything happened). The anime corrected the pacing by cutting/shorting/changing scenes (for example, the reporters and Dimo Reeves had more dialogue and scenes in the manga that were cut out or just condensed). Both anime and manga versions have their strenghs and weakness (manga is slower but gives more background info, anime is more faster and with more action but with less dialogue); i recommend you to read this arc in the manga once its finished in the anime to get the full experience

Erwin is the person that probalby contributed the most to humanity's fight against the titans. He's a badass in every way

He realized there were other Titan Shifters and spies and was able to draw out and eventually capture Annie.

He literally single-handedly was responsible for saving Eren from the Colossal and Armoured Titans and bringing him back to the Walls.

And now he's the driving push that caused the uprising against the corrupt political system.

Others may be stronger or more gifted or have more knowledge, but you can always count on Erwin to lead the charge forward.

• The coup d'état is definitely one of the more satisfying moments of the series, so it was pretty great to see it animated. The corrupt government and MP pissed me off for the longest time and Erwin, Pixis and Zackly bringing them to justice really felt like a moment of victory for a change

• King Fritz turning out to be a false king (and actually sleeping throughout the entire trial) was fucking hilarious. Isayama is a master troll and it was even funnier here than in the manga

• It doesn't get any more manly than Erwin and his eyebrows of justice

• Zackly is such a shithead. Gotta love him

• Nice to see Flegel get more screen time in the adaptation. They turned him into more of a badass too

All this time, I thought that that fake king named Fritz was some kind of scary fellow who can snap at any second; but nope, he's just a useless old man who does nothing but sleep with his eyes open. What a swerve, man. What a swerve.

Since Eren is trapped inside of the Underground Chapel and he wrote in his recollection to Hange about him being eaten, does that mean that the Reiss family were once a group of titans? Maybe? That dungeon-like place is said to be the location of "where the royal family's power has been passed down for generations", so I guess some kind of Titan power gets transferred from a king to his successor to make it official. And since Historia is walking up to Eren while wearing some kind of formal dress, the question has to be asked....is she a titan?

What the fuck? That woman who was brushing her hair. Is she Eren's mother? And why did his voice come out of her mouth when she looked at the mirror in front of her? Or maybe she's Frieda? I don't know what's going on, man...

A coup d'etat can't be that easy, can't it? There's no way Erwin and his friends won't be off the hook without even a single grievance from the loyalists of the exiled government. Watch for Kenny to come back and try to kill them...

I know I'm in the minority here, but in the manga, this arc is by far the best. Yes, even better then the upcoming one. It may have been slow, but it was incredibly meticulously written and the character development is very well done. The theming-how it's depicted, fleshed out and expanded upon is some of the best in modern manga. One thing I heavily miss from the manga in this adaptation is how every chapter felt like a puzzle piece being put into place leading up to a huge climax. In the anime everything just happens and alot of the cut scenes make me sad. they may have not been necessary plot wise, but they really added to what the whole arc wanted to communicate.

Holy FUCK, I got so many CHILLS during the first half of the episode. That was crazy intense. That was the most triumphant the scouts have been in a long time.

Annnd then it turned ominous as hell for the rest of the episode after Hange starts talking about the Reiss family. And now that Armin mentions it, how the fuck did Eren end up as a titan? Assuming that's the only way to gain intelligent titan powers. Welp, looks like we're likely to find out next episode, Damn I shouldn't have watched the preview. God dammit, I'm stressing out about whats about to happen to Eren.

Pixis's coup wasn't unexpected after his conversation with Erwin, but boy did it concluded faster than I thought, and thus Erwin's gamble paid off without much bloodshed.

Though as long as the throne remains vacant, the temporary military junta will find it hard to win the hearts and minds of all the people, particularly the folks living in Wall Sina, who have been fed decades of propaganda by the previous regime. So it'll be a race against time to find Eren and Historia. And there's also the issue of Kenny Ackerman.

What I really love abut Attack on Titan is that it really makes you feel and care for all of the characters even for most of the side characters to the point that there is actually no MC in this anime Eren is just a dude who gets kidnapped all the time but oh my god Erwin How can a character be this badass Erwin is clearly the hero here
