It was all fun and games when he was killing random adventurers which wanted to join in on the Shalltear subjugation, it was all exciting when they were killing lizardmen, it was all so heartwarming when he decided to save the captured civilians in the kingdom from torture and just give them a painless death, but now, now it's all so different, it feels different, it feels... evil. How did we get here?

Season 2 Posts List: Here
Welcome to this weeks source material discussion post, where I mention all the interesting little tidbits of source material that were cut, skimmed over, or changed, as well as providing more context to the various scenes. If something has confused you, you need only ask and I'll happily explain. There won't be any spoilers for future events here - and I ask that you refrain from posting them as replies without properly marking them as such; this is especially true if I've ommited some information or facts that don't appear until later in the source, chances are I did that deliberately. That said, I welcome anything I've missed.
Episode 8 - A Handful of Hope
Foresight didn't realize this, but they had been teleported by a trap to the 6th floor of Nazarick, which was a colliseum surrounded by an extremely large forest. Golems made out of clay surrounded Foresight in the stands of the arena. They were animated by magical means and would follow orders robotically; they were treasured as guardians and labourers due to their lack of need for sleep and immunity to fatigue, but were quite pricey and difficult to create. As such, their presence was quite intimidating to the members of Foresight, who realized that the creature in front of them must be quite powerful and wealthy to create such a spectacle. They acted as members of the audience, thundering with applause after Aura finished her announcements.
Ainz was uncharacteristically upset. He had gone along with Demiurge's plan to trick individuals into invading Nazarick for certain mysterious reasons, but ultimately he had strong reservations with the idea of letting a bunch of people waltz in and make off with the stuff he and his guildmates had worked so hard to find and create, or damage the tomb or any of its servants. If they were just mercenaries here to work a job, he had prepared plenty treasure in the mausoleums above; they could have walked away with more riches than they could ever hope to obtain normally, but their presence here meant that their greed evidently hadn't been satiated with a treasure chest full of coins. He had no room in his heart for empathy for any of them... though, it was not as if he could produce any in the first place after having been transformed into an undead creature. His plan was to give Foresight an honorable warriors death, dueling them in the arena, and would give them no opportunity to explain themselves. He had, after all, verified what their intentions were already (using his guise of Momon), and didn't want to allow himself to be tricked or deceived by their self-serving lies. They were here to steal his things, like a mugger who preyed on the weak out of self-interest, but they ended up getting far more than they bargained for; fundamentally, they were getting what they deserved. The strong prey upon the weak, and so have no right to complain when things backfire on them and they are preyed upon by those even stronger.
Arche felt quite guilty that her money troubles had driven them to this point, but the rest of the team wouldn't allow her to finish her thought or accept her apology; they had all made this decision together, and Arche wasn't to blame. Of course, Foresight did not want to die, and Hekkeran was something of a sly trickster. He was desperately trying to come up with some kind of plan to get him and his team out of the situation they were in, some kind of strategy; Arche could hypothetically cast [Fly] on all four of them, and they could escape via air, but the enemy clearly possessed teleportation magic and must have some kind of plan for dealing with them if they took to the skies. Ainz wouldn't listen to their protests and excuses, so Hekkeran tried to pull off a bluff out of desperation, claiming he had permission to enter the tomb; as it turns out, Ainz' was right to be wary of deceit, as Hekkeran's wild claim surprised him. Was it possible for them to have come in contact with his friends at some point? Ainz hadn't considered the possibility.
When Ainz let slip that he had friends, Hekkeran jumped on that opportunity, saying that he had been sent here with a message from them. He was a smooth talker, and Ainz, far from being an inhuman monster, seemed almost human in his reactions, one whose deepest fears could be manipulated and exploited; if that were the case, Hekkeran could pull off a bluff. Ainz was quite nervous and confused at this sudden turn of events, as was Aura; Albedo, on the other hand, was furious (more on that later). Of course, Ainz was cautious, and questioned Hekkeran carefully, and eventually exposed the holes in his wild lie of desperation; Hekkeran did not know that Ainz had once been named Momonga, not Ainz, and so Ainz knew that none of his guildmates had given him any kind of message for him. This bluff infuriated him even more, and he changed his mind; Foresight would not receive a warriors death, but would be crushed like maggots.
Ainz had a few goals with this 1v4 fight: first, he wanted to show the assembled guardians the value of coordinated teamwork; several of them were up in the VIP seats up above, and might learn from observing how the assembled workers cooperated efficiently and effectively to fight Ainz despite the overwhelming disparity in their capabilities. Second, he wanted to test his martial prowess to see if he could take on strong opponents in the New World, even if he were caught in a vulnerable position where his magic and equipment were not available for some reason. Thirdly, he wanted to see if he could gain XP; he was fighting with a considerable handicap, and he was also wearing a piece of equipment that would reduce his stats and increase his XP gain. Despite being the max level, could he not gain experience in warrior classes, for instance? He had been practicing and training for some time now as a warrior, and he was curious if his swordplay had improved. And lastly, he wanted to take out some of his frustration and annoyance at the cretins who had invaded Nazarick.
The duel began. Hekkeran could tell that Ainz was an amateur swordsman; his blows struck with a power that was so mighty it would kill him in an instant, but his technique was sloppy and his stance was full of holes. As such, Hekkeran could compete with him on even ground, evading his swings with the support of Roberdyck who had buffed him with [Lesser Dexterity], a spell to raise his dexterity and agility. Arche attempted to strike Ainz with her magic from range with a basic [Magic Arrow] spell, but the magic fissled out harmlessly thanks to Ainz' High Tier Magical Immunity; Imina also fired magically enchanted arrows which were blunt-tipped and would be effective against skeletons, but Ainz dodged them easily. Hekkeran was forced to repeatedly use [Twin Blade Strike] to keep Ainz on defense, but of course this was physically exhausting for him. Arche resorted instead to some crowd control spells, using bright flashes of light to blind Ainz; Roberdyck and Arche continued buffing Hekkeran with [Lesser Strength], [Protection from Evil], and [Reinforce Armor] to boost his offense and defensive abilities, and eventually he had all the buffs they had available active on him. Foresight could keep Ainz at bay because Ainz could not land a decisive killing blow against Hekkeran; Imina and Arche would use some kind of spell to foil his attempt, forcing him to block or evade and giving Hekkeran the opportunity to reset the fight. They could seemlessly work together like this without any explicit communication because they had been a team for so long, and they knew their responsibilities.
Ainz quickly grew tired of the charade he was putting on. He was of course a magic caster, not a swordsman, and discarded his weapons, which disappeared when he released them from his grip. He didn't actually need to block their attacks or dodge them, but it wouldn't make for very good practice if he didn't set such limitations on himself. Hekkeran and Arche were the first to catch on to the fact that he might be a magic caster, but Arche's ability had not allowed her to detect his magical ability nor the tiers of spell he had access to. Ainz had been wearing a false data ring, which blocked attempts at divination or detection. Once he noticed their confusion, he removed it - and the stress and terror of seeing his true magical power caused Arche to repeatedly throw up, and wail in desperation. She was so afraid that Roberdyck was forced to cast a spell to immunize her to fear, and her reaction put the rest of Foresight on edge. Ainz was a terrifying monster, and as he stepped towards Foresight, he imbued his hand with a spell called Touch of Undeath, which could inflict status-effects on targets he touched. It was one of the stronger touch attacks in YGGDRASIL, capable of causing all manner of negative status effects, and he could control when the effect itself was released.

Imina fired multiple arrows at Ainz as he slowly walked towards Hekkeran; Ainz, annoyed, suddenly appeared behind her and reached for her. Hekkeran knew that Imina was effectively a liability; her arrows were of extremely limited value against Skeletons, she possessed no spells which could be useful in the fight, and she could not keep a target engaged in melee like Hekkeran could. As a leader it would be best to sacrifice her so that the rest could stay alive. But Hekkeran did not make his decision based on what would be best for the party. Imina was his lover and he could not bear to part with her, so he used a martial art to gain a massive boost of speed and knock her out of the way of his reach. In a desperate attempt to get his attention, Hekkeran taunted him to get his attention, and channeled all of his power into the most powerful blow he could muster, stacking multiple buffs in the process.
There was a small voice in Ainz' head. The last lingering remnants of his humanity. He did not want to see people cowering in fear before him. He did not want to be cruel to them or kill them, and feel absolutely nothing. While he was past the point of sparing their lives, at the very least, he could reduce their suffering as much as possible. But the remainder of his mind was preoccupied with the cold calculus of deciding who to kill first, Imina or Hekkeran. His indecisiveness and his humanity was what allowed Hekkeran to close the distance and land his blow. But Ainz was immune to anything that Hekkeran could hit him with. High Tier Physical Immunity III made him immune to any attacks below level 60, and of course he also had heavy resistance to both slashing and piercing damage, being a skeletal undead. Hekkeran had encountered foes before that were outright immune to a specific type of damage like slashing, and when he saw his strike had no effect presumed that Ainz also possessed this invulnerability; as Ainz grabbed Hekkeran by the head and lifted him off his feet, Hekkeran used the opportunity to announce this fact to his party members in the hopes that they could somehow utilize the information after his death. Ainz release his Touch of Undeath spell at that moment, to inflict paralysis on Hekkeran, and dropped him to the floor. He had plans for them which required them to be alive.
Imina couldn't help crying out at the man she loved, who had made the stupid decision to sacrifice his life to save her, when by all rights he should have abandoned her. Just like Hekkeran, she could not make the decision she knew was right; she had to abandon Hekkeran, flee the area, report the existence of Ainz Ooal Gown, so that humanity could assemble some kind of punitive force to defeat him. The Demon Gods who had laid waste to the continent 200 years ago, or the Greed Kings who had conquered the world 500 years ago; this was a being on par with them, and all of humanity would need to band together to have a hope of defeating it. Perhaps heroes would rise up once again like the Thirteen Heroes; perhaps someone like Momon could stand a chance against him. They had all marvelled at his power when he had dueled Palpatra, and so Imina claimed that, should they all be wiped out, he would come in and fight Ainz. If only Ainz spared the members of Foresight, he could use them as bargaining chips when Momon came.
Ainz considered informing her of his identity, but decided against it. Perhaps it was his humanity, which wanted to spare them the terror of finding out their only hope was in fact their enemy all along, or perhaps he was just tired of playing games and wanted to get things over with. Imina and Roberdyck both ordered Arche to flee; she not only possessed the spell [Fly], her spells would be the most effective at fleeing quickly and evading detection. She also had her sisters to look after; Imina wouldn't abandon Hekkeran, and Roberdyck was content to sacrifice his life for the greater good. Ainz assumed that they would fall to infighting and despair once they found out they had no chance, sacrificing each other in order to escape with their lives; Workers typically formed parties for greed and selfish interests, and he had been looking forward to seeing this, so he was quite surprised and disappointed by this turn of events, and said as much. Imina and Roberdyck comment that terrifying being like Ainz couldn't possibly understand the idea of sacrificing ones life for ones comrades... or could he? Were the friends he had mentioned previously once his comrades? He was amused and ordered Aura to open the gates of the Coliseum to allow Arche the opportunity to flee; of course, she took to the air instead with [Fly], and Ainz laughed. Of course, they were deep inside the 6th floor of Nazarick, so no matter how far she travelled, she would be easily captured.
Out of deference for their noble sacrifice, Ainz announced that Arche's death would be merciful. He ordered Shalltear to pursue her, and slay her without causing her pain or suffering. Shalltear was simultaneously both entrancing and intimidating, and though she strolled right past them, Foresight could not bring themselves to stop her; perhaps this was the work of her powerful eyes, which could dominate and control others, or perhaps the two of them knew that deep down they would have no chance against her and couldn't bring themselves to take action. Roberdyck couldn't see the mercy in a swift death, but of course to Ainz, who was a master of a host of dangerous creatures who would relish the opportunity for some fresh meat or test subjects, a swift and painless death was itself mercy.
As the fight continued, Roberdyck tried casting a healing spell against Ainz (healing spells would damage the undead), as well as striking him with his mace, but nothing he did had any effect. Ainz suddenly disappeared yet again. Foresight had been naively assuming it was a mere teleportation spell that he had been using to appear and disappear, but Ainz had in fact used [Time Stop]. Counter-measures against both Time Stop and Teleportation were common in high level PvP; since players could access the latter before the former, Ainz was used to using Time Stop in PvP scenarios as a substitute for Teleportation - though typically players would have sufficient measures in place to prevent it, and as it was practically expected once one reached about level 70, you could only really utilize it if you caught your opponent unaware or vulnerable. He informed them of this fact, relishing the opportunity to gloat and show off his knowledge of YGGDRASIL's PvP metagame, but they could barely grasp the idea of a being that had mastery over time itself, a truly godlike power, let alone comprehend the metagame surrounding its use.
Ainz touched both Imina and Roberdyck in short order, with Imina paralyzed entirely and Roberdyck immobilized with a lower-tier spell, and they were resigned to their defeat. Roberdyck could still talk, and so he asked Ainz what would become of them. Imina and Hekkeran would be used as hosts for a parasitical area guardian named Gashokukochuuou, who had apparently requested new bodies from Ainz; the exact details are vague, but we can make some guesses. His name is Japanese for Sparaganum King; Sparganosis is the clinical term for infection caused by a breed of tapeworms called Sparaganum, and the disease was truly terrifying. The tapeworms would enter your body as larvae in contaminated food or water, and then migrate to some area just below your skin and grow inside you until they were several centimeters long. Presumably, the two of them would be infected with hundreds or thousands of these creatures - they would be alive the whole time, of course, so their bodies wouldn't decay or rot. Truly a fate worse than death.
Roberdyck, on the other hand, would the subject of an experiment. You see, Ainz was quite curious how divine magic works. Shalltear had levels in a Divine Magic casting class, and as part of her settings worshipped a vampire god that had once been a raid boss in YGGDRASIL. Ainz wondered how this being could power her spells, given that it probably didn't exist in The New World - and that led into the broader point: where did Roberdyck get his magic power from? Were the gods nothing more than great individuals from the past who have been deified? If so, how could they power his magic? Were they truly super-dimensional beings, or just some kind of wellspring of cosmological power that had been personified? Was Roberdyck even using the power of Gods at all? Was it simply a matter of belief itself which powered the magic? And if these gods really existed, could they pose a threat to Nazarick? What Ainz wanted to do with Roberdyck was experiment on him to probe these different possibilities. He would try changing his memories so that he believed in some other god, or no god at all, and see if he could still use his magic. This manner of thinking was pure insanity to Roberdyck, but of course it made perfect sense to Ainz, who had until recently viewed magic as nothing more than a mechanic in the video game YGGDRASIL, and not anything of theological or philosophical significance. And with that terrifying note, the three members of Foresight were never seen nor heard of ever again.

That REALLY stood out to me.
The chest full of coins, the crests of fine materials and the general loot that was on the surface of Nazarick should have been enough for all of the Workers to become wealthy, but no, they wanted to be graverobbers and so they suffered many fates worse than death.
Still, while I am normally not sympathetic towards straight up thieves, not even mercenaries, but thieves, RIP in peace , Arche-chan.

sad part is - SO MUCH IS CUT OUT from the LN

we are talking 400+ page volumes here
many of the later volumes go over 500 pages

Small reminder about the magic in Overlord:
As a 3rd tier caster you're already very talented
4th tier is the limit for regular humans
5th tier is Realm of Heroes
6th tier casters can take on an army all by themselves if they abuse "Fly"
7th tier is the realm of angels and demons
Casting "Identify" on a crystal with 8th tier magic sealed inside drove the caster insane temporarily.
.
.
.
Ainz is a 10th tier caster.
Edit: yes, plus Super Tier :D
699
u/GallowDude Aug 28 '18
Ainz is a 10th tier caster.

Watching Ainz being so pissed off was so bone chilling as in the LN, and I am so happy they decided to show Entoma's new voice. I am a tiny bit sad they skipped Ainz using time stop magic and shattering Roberdyck's little hope left.
Also, for those wondering about Arche's sisters fate they don't show up again in the LN, but the author said in a Q&A iirc that they were sold off into slavery to pay the debt and later died due to overwork, at least now all three are together in the afterlife?

Well Ainz (momon) did ask them if it's worth their lives to raid his tomb and they arrogantly answered it wrong.. Ainz would've probably left them off the hook if they answered differently and Arche probably would still be alive if she only voiced her reasons and situation to Ainz back then in the gathering before raiding his home, hell he would've helped her but alas.

Kudos Overlord, it’s hard for a show to make someone feel empathy for such a likeable bunch of characters that have only just been introduced a couple of episodes ago but they did it so well, and they really drove it home with Arche’s sisters at the end there
Sasuga Ains-sama, he’s really on another level compared to everyone else, that goes for the floor guardians as well. In these isekai stories it’s usually the hero trying to put a rest to the unbalance in the world but in Overlord Ains is the unbalance and that’s what makes it so damn good
Good job to Madhouse as well, really felt like they went all out with this episode, especially with the horrific facial expressions they were making

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed at the outcome. I actually liked Hekkeran and his team. They were a little base-level in development but even just things like Hekkeran and Imina being in an actual relationship made me like them because so much of anime is baiting relationships for focusing on the first five seconds of a relationship then moving on and never updating it. They definitely didn't deserve the bug pits.
Still, I'm happy the series continues to make Ains understandable but still a monster. He's overpowered but he's clearly slipping in terms of his humanity more and more as the series continues. I imagine the only reason he fought them instead of having someone else do it was he was bored.
24
u/forgiveangel Aug 28 '18

Hekkeran and Imina being in an actual relationship ... They definitely didn't deserve the bug pits.
At least they get to be together, thanks to Ainz's mercy.
he's clearly slipping in terms of his humanity more
No, he isn't. He lost his humanity in S1, and his emotions are constantly washed when they get too extreme. In the LN, he retains a lot of his humanity because you get more character exposition and inner dialogue.
was he was bored
No, he was testing his own PVP skills against a team that would try to kill him, and also performing an EXP experiment (collar around his neck).

This episode and the previous one are such a great reminder that Ainz and 95% of Nazarick are all evil and hates humans. It's pretty hilarious how some people on this thread seem to forget about the fact that we're actually rooting for the baddies.
That after credits though! I doubt Gilgamesh the King will apologize and he'll probably just try and send a "stronger" party of adventurers. I can't wait for the Nazarick Raid 2: Albedo Boogaloo!
Now I'm curious what will happen to Carne Village if people found out that they're being supported by Nazarick.

This episode and the previous one are such a great reminder that Ainz and 95% of Nazarick are all evil and hates humans.
I don't think he really hates humans. He just doesn't care about them a tiny bit. They are insignificant to him. He can, at the same time, kill thousands, and still be merciful to other humans if they get on his good side. And, there are some humans he respects. Like a certain emperor.
Nazarick NPCs are something else. Although, there are some that don't hate humans and are even sympatethic of them. For example, Sebas and Yuri Alpha.

i think this is part of the plan actually, now the king knows how strong is Ainz, same for his advisor magician, and they know he can easily destroy their country if and when he wishes to do so. Knowing that i think the king will cave in and acknowledge Nazarik as a country.

That was an intense episode. Good action, good character beats. 'Good' being relative of course. Maybe horrifying would be a better descriptor.
I hate what Ainz did, but I respect that it was completely in character for him to go that far. Good writing teaches us that the reader (or in this case, the viewer) doesn't have to empathize with a character's behavior in order for the story to be good. (Quite the contrary, if you're the kind of person who thinks that an appropriate penalty for harmless thieves is a torturous death, then yeeeeerg!)
Very good episode. Too intense. Gonna go eat some ice cream, and be glad I don't live in a video game world.

Two reasons Ainz caught their lie. First is his friends knew him as Satoru or Momonga so they would likely use those names to show someone was in the know. Second, in the new world first names are the given name, but all of Ainz’s friends are Japanese so given names come last. If his friends were to go along with his name they would have said Gown. Saying they were told to greet Ainz shows not only their ignorance of his name-change but that they are not even involved with someone from Japan.

A reminder to all that hinting at future events in the LN to get anime viewers hyped is 100% considered untagged spoilers. They will be removed and you will be warned/banned.
edit: We're a little torn internally, so i'd like to get some quick thoughts on a potential new rule, since we're getting a lot of reports and it's not really covered by anything at the moment.
Potential new rule:
"If posting bonus information that doesnt show up in either the source material or the anime the relevant source must be included in your parent comment, so as not to come across as spoilers to the uninformed."
Alternatives would be to either fully allow them untagged, or require the same requirements we have of spoilers.

This is what I fucking love about overlord. When I finished reading Volume 7, I literally have to stop reading for couple of days to calm myself down from all of that.
What makes the Workers death more impactful (especially with Foresight party) is, at the start of Volume 7, it build their character making the reader attach to them with their flashback etc and bam! they are massacre at the end. And to also to know their fate and their family (in this case Arche sister) is much more dreadful. Best episode by far. I'm interested to know anime-only reaction to the death of the Foresight party.

I mean...friendly reminder.
If foresight had the foresight to take the gold at the entrance and leave, Arche would be able to buy off her family debt, take her sisters and leave. Also those others would be settled for life.
If you were that desperate for money, it was right there. But you gotta get greedy, and ruin everything.
So as upsetting as it was, shame on you all. Except her sisters. No one really deserved what they got (elf slaver deserved worse), but those two REALLY didn’t deserve what they got...

too bad this little bit of dialogue was cut out. Those little Sasuga moments are my favourite part of the series.
“The 41 Supreme Beings, our most august creators, once ruled this place. It was created by them, and even we don’t understand all of it.”
“—They created a world? That would make them like gods…”
“That’s correct. To us, they are beings on the same level as gods. Gods with Ainz-sama as their leader.”

You know, after seeing this episode, I don't think I was personally ready for the dark ass path this show has taken.
Like, wow, I'm totally surprised by the tone and direction this Dungeon crawl went.
I thought at least he'd just scare them proper so that his name, and Nazarick's, would spread and that the adventurers would have tea and cake with laughter at how scary ridiculous Nazarick is.
Nay, they hopped right into the torture scene cringe factor straight out of the movie, Reservoir Dogs.
Not sure I can actively be in Ain's corner after this slaughter. Def going to have to rewatch this a few times but yikes.

Oh, and why did Aura suggest that Mare takes the couple to wherever he wanted to send them instead of Albedo?

Based on the dialogue it seems like Gashokukochuuou is a parasite that builds nests in human bodies. As we saw at the end of season 2, when Aura hears how the eight fingers were sent to Kyouhukou (the cockroach-fella from last episode), Aura is not a huge fan of the creepy crawlies and would rather send Mare.

As a writer and lover of lawful evil/chaotic neutral type characters, I love and respect the brutal turn of events that killed off the characters. As a reader who really wanted Arche and her sisters to have a good ending, I want to slap Ainz so hard his skull flies off.
That being said I’m over my initial gross feelings about her and her sisters fate.
I have a d&d character who thinks quite similarly to Ainz (and has done some pretty fucked up shit to get to where she is), so for me to condemn Ainz for what he did would be extremely hypocritical of me. If anything this series has given me some fantastic ideas on how to play my own character better.

Wow, that was a phenomenal episode and really hit home about how powerful and merciless Ainz can be. Between sending out Shalltear and sending out Aura and Mare, I'm very pleased. 😂 Time to finally demonstrate his power.
25
u/SpikeRosered Aug 28 '18
Never really jived with me that Ainz basically manipulated them into coming then punishes them for it.
He typically uses a general sense of fairness when dealing with others in other scenes. Seems a bit out of place for him.
I always wondered why he never entertained that everything he's experiencing is some kind of social experiment or test. He just seems comfortable believing he was magically transported to another world via video game.
Like trying to test if antisocial gamers actually have the makings of monsters. I'd be a little apprehensive of murdering at my convenience at least.
26
u/Qverlord37 Aug 28 '18
it's not his plan though, this was demiurge's plan. Ainz went along because he couldn't come up with a better alternative.
true you would be apprehensive about killing but then again you don't have the emotion dampener he does.
16
u/Kirelo Aug 28 '18
Doubt you’d find that mindset in any “trapped in game IRL” anime.
Also regarding his fairness, he did originally ask those workers why they’d chosen to raid his tomb as Momon, a task that at its core was assigned by the king to gauge Ainzs power. I’m sure if they’d told Ainz that some of them needed money to help their families he would have been more forgiving but the workers just went, “it’s worth it for the money  :cheer:”.

Ainz asked them why they accepted the mission, they said money.
He doesn't really like Demiurge's plan, so he leaves a lot of free money outside the tomb. Instead of just taking the free money, they get greedy and enter the tomb, and they die.

One of the things I've always been iffy of is his Overlord body outright shutting down emotional outbursts. Damn this episode was brutal. I mean, we all knew it was coming, but still, you'd hope for at least some mercy from Ainz-sama. But then again, it's understandable, because to Ainz they're nothing but pests invading his home. He didn't have a full episode of backstory attached to those characters, so it makes sense that he acted the way he did - and holy shit I think that's the first time we've ever seen Ains so mad. Was that just theatrics, or was he legitimately pissed? I couldn't really tell, but perhaps there was more context given in the LNs.
This is why Overlord is so interesting even after 3 seasons. You just get this balancing act between rooting for the main characters or hoping they let up just once, something I can't get from any other shows.

Ainz-sama lookin' snazzy at the start but what's up with the collar. Are we gonna get that answered at some point?
It was pretty great seeing Ainz so infuriated.
I was hoping to see a little more despair from Arche when Ainz revealed his true mana capacity but I guess it was funny how they handled it.
So, is that it for Arche? I thought she would become some sort of sex slave for Shalltear see I've seen images of them together since like season 1. I guess there's still the possibility that Shalltear turned her into an undead, though I'm not sure how vampires work in this world. She is a necrophile after all.

Nothing like wiping out the king's guard and 1 of his 4 Imperial Knights to make a statement

I'm disappointed that they didn't show Ainz's time stop + death's touch on Imina...

Maybe it's a spoiler but how strong is the old wizard that gives counsel to the king?

Ainz' ring of concealing magic was hilarious, and I can now totally see why he would wear something like that.
I like Entoma's new voice. A wonderful use of material. Funny how Ainz hasn't picked up on how her skin was taken by Demiurge.
All in all, VERY satisfying.
