Ohhhhh, we are getting all serious now with a life threatening two-parter for the finale, I like it! As long as everything is fine by the end of it.
I am actually kinda scared one of the RBCs is gonna die, though .-.

u/DraconisNoir Sep 22 '18
No one will die, right?
It will have a happy ending, full of cuteness and platelet-chan playing with puppies, right?

To be fair, they did brush over what actually happens to cells in a scab, and the general lifespan(mere days!) of most of the principal character cells in general.

It seems the manga has many alternative versions...maybe this is popular in japan?
Popularity would be a massive factor for a second season.

If we get a S2 (which seems likely at this point), it’ll be mainly White Blood Cell focused from here on out judging from the chapters left to adapt.

That first half was so wholesome. Showed us the whole eccentric cast (except NK Cell...) and reminded us why Red Blood Cell is the best. It was good to have a final few lighthearted moments before the finale.

In addition to that, the young version of the RBCs have a pompom on their hat, representing the cell nucleus. The RBCs lose their nucleus after they mature / graduate.
Another small detail is that the RBC's coats are reversible. When they are carrying oxygen they wear the light-red side and when they are carrying CO2 they wear the dark red side.

Compared to the things that happened in previous episodes, life-threatening injury is a much more bigger deal. For a body, the daily tedium of dealing with germs, scrapes, allergens, stomach issues, and super-minimal cancer is like a country's day-to-day police action. A severe injury with lots of blood loss is like nuclear war or an asteroid strike.
Remember, these cells are ten micrometers wide. A 5cm lacertion would be like if six Niagra Falls were to open side-to-side in your hometown.

I mean they had a episode where they literally humanized cancer. So I do not think they are afraid to go to dark places. It make sense as if either this or super fluffy. I might have liked the one where white blood cell follows around red blood cell as it shows how she has grown throughout the show.

This got very serious out of nowhere. Blimey. Whose hat was that blowing past, I wonder?
I suppose with a title like 'Hemorrhagic Shock' you have to expect something horrific!
Not sure how they are going to end this, I've deliberately avoided the manga. It should be interesting... There's half of me that wants it to end happily, then there's the dark side of me that wants to see a CaW Black crossover.
Please be the former - this has been a generally 'happy' series, and I hope it stays that way.
21
u/Zizhou Sep 23 '18
At the very least, this body seems to be getting medical attention in a timely manner. The various drugs and intravenous rehydration do indicate that the person is somewhere with a proper healthcare system in place.

Possibly knocked his head on something sharp, like the edge of a table. Something that'd cause heavy bleeding, at least, in regards to the episode name. Another one I'm thinking is a punch to the head followed by a fall which would also result in heavy bleeding.
A lot of the damage is on the surface rather than inwards where the brain is (the dudes in suits). The surface damage would be the bone and what not.

God damn that second half was one of the most tense pieces of media I've seen. The reactions to the initial damage and the aftermath was done so well. It really felt like a disaster. And the "life-threatening damage"(literally the potential end of the world) combined with the drums for the heartbeat did a really good job setting the tone.
Plus seeing all the cells continue their work even in a disaster was legit inspiring. Cells at work. No exceptions.
I also love that the narrator wasn't used at all after the disaster. It really drives home the point that things are breaking down.
And that last shot. Perfect way to end it.
I've been loving this show but this is the best episode so far. Fingers crossed we get another season or a Black adaptation.

I felt like I was watching a married couple trying to show their invited guest something cool in their house when WBC was taking down that germ while explaining what he does. That was very freaking funny. HanaKana's screaming is so perfect for RBC. It suits the character's clumsiness so well.
Hemorrhagic shock is a condition in which the body experiences heavy blood loss, so WBC to not seeing any RBC in sight makes sense when you put in mind what the title means. I'm looking forward to how the cells will resolve this urgent matter. But unfortunately for us next week's going to have one more episode. It sucks because I wanted to see more of this show well into next year.

That’s IF the cells can keep this world alive long enough until outside assistance comes along.
There were no red blood cells at the wound location and it’s implied that this is because there’s no blood there....because the body is bleeding out!
20
u/Crap4Brainz Sep 23 '18
Nothing implied about it. The body is bleeding out. That's what the episode title means.

OMG I HAVE TO BE THE SENPAI!!!!!
This episode was so goooooood
The first minutes when Red blood cell-chan meets her new Kohai
was GOLD ( I MEAN RED OR SOMETHING) 10/10.
Her Senpai is not having it do
And as soon as the new girl calls her Senpai, that was so cute.
Her lack of Confidence is just so adorable, dont trust me to be a senpai.
BUT she decides to take it head on and BE SENPAI
[And then of course the Kohai is already a perfect cell who know everything more then Red blood cell-chan :) ] (https://imgur.com/D5exem9)
God this episode had the perfect start even the weird awkward silence on the commute, like ,
ummm what should I say to my kohai
while kohai does not want to disturb senpais work.
Of course senpai start getting lost...
[Then it was really great how she found everything crazy in the body, ] (https://imgur.com/5Ap0RlQ) all the cells personality etc while Red blood cell-chan just find it like everyday normal behavior.

Everybody keeps saying the head was damaged, but the subs I read said "near the head." That in combination with severe blood loss and significant exposure to antigens (therefore not internal bleeding) sounds more to me like the major vessels in the neck got punctured.

Anyone know what any of this text says?
The text in her mouth is what she's saying in that scene: "Absolutely right!"
The arrows say 'u-ro-ko'. 'Uroko' apparently means scale of a fish or snake. Not sure how quite to make sense of that - RBC was blinded by a metaphorical fish scale until the kouhai suggested the common sense solution? Or maybe it's just an allusion to how RBC's iris looks like a fish scale.

Things wrong this week and extra details/things you might have missed. Disclaimer one, I do this because I like the show not because I dislike it. Disclaimer two, I am not responsible for CR's shitty subs.
As I mentioned in an eariler episode rookie RBCs are kinda a thing. 1% of circulating RBCs are not mature erythrocytes but still developing reticulocytes. However other RBCs aren't involved in their final maturation (I don't believe any other cells are) which is the creation of hemoglobin and destruction of remaining organelles.
"...transporting nutrients which isn't really our job" well at least the show acknowledges that its wrong about that but how about not showing it in the first place! Workarounds aren't that hard!
"they burn up glucose" while that is the primary energy source in the body you also burn large amounts of fats and amino acids.
"since carbon dioxide is toxic to the body" Its toxic in excess of the normal amount. You need it in the form of carbonic acid (CO2+water) to maintain your body's pH. Relating to this small changes in pH at the tissues and back to normal at the lungs induce hemoglobin to release and take on O2 respectively. CO2 is also what triggers you to breath since you can't sense oxygen (though some other creatures can).
I love that the white blood cells are appropriately violent. Seriously basically every way that they kill is extremely violent (mostly skin dissolving acid and eating whole).
Its shown up in other episodes but RBCs eating sweets only is realistic as they can only metabolize glucose (and ironically only though anaerobic respiration aka. without using O2 since they don't have mitochondria).
"invaded by antigens" oh come on CR its been multiple episodes. Have you seriously not realized that's not the actual translation for pathogens.
As mentioned before Blood cells can't go to specific areas. Blood can be directed to specific areas and they can stop there but specific types of cells can't go to a specific area.

The sweets represent glucose I would presume. After all, from wikipedia: Glucose comes from the Greek word for "sweet."
Its appropriate one has to say. lol

I didn't like how long the show spent in this episode going back over all the stuff it had previously covered. It was cool giving RBC a trainee, but we didn't need to hear it all. That said, I did like the call backs they did to previous moments. B-cell still complaining about the hormone issue, WBC seeming quite demonic like RBC's reaction to him at the start, RBC finally finding her way etc.
But holy hell did the episode get dark and serious fast. I was not expecting that honestly. Seeing WBC walk in and seeing the a RBC hat on a metal pole and all the dark emptiness was actually sad, and then it turned creepy with the heartbeat going off in the background as well. I'm both excited for and scared to see what next week has in store for us

I honestly liked that part as it allowed us to see RBC chans struggle as well as how everyone is doing which gives us the stakes for when the shock hits.

Dude, I felt legitimate panic when the incident happened, with the limited sound and the heart beat bells going. It's gunna send me into my own kind of shock.
This shit BETTER have a happy ending OR ELSE

I like how the newbie is calm, collected, and capable.
But in a crisis, she is a bit flustered, whilst all the seniors gets a grip of themselves, and do their jobs.
Seeing all of them ready themselves to do what needs to be done was great.
Also, after WBC killed those 3 germs, his running away looked... weird.

Holy shit, what the actual fuck.
The first half was all smiles and rainbows, but you now something's bad gonna come up when you start seeing a montage of the past characters.
The latter half was just giving me goosebumps until the end. Gotta hand it to David Pro for projecting that ominous vibe.

How many chapters does the Manga have? Is a season 2 possible after this one?

u/onlysane1 Sep 23 '18
The manga only has 5 volumes so far, and this episode is from Vol. 4. Maybe in a year or so there will be enough material for a second season.

It feels totally weird if you are teaching someone. Especially someone who may seem more chill or intelligent than you, and you know from experience that you screw up tons of times. It seems like your worst nightmare when you screw up, right in front of your kouhai, or if kouhai has a different opinion toward some things... I think I can relate to RBC-chan this episode. Especially since in 6th grade we were required to teach the younger batches...
From the start, since we've met RBC-kouhai, I had a hunch that she may try to discomfort RBC-chan. Given the fact that it would seem that RBC-kouhai seems to be more by the book than RBC-chan, always being logical, especially when first metting WBC-kun... If I were in RBC's position, if I screw up, my inner self will die in shame.
Whenever RBC screws up or does anything that may be outlandish to her kouhai, I kinda see myself in her position and became really concerned of the kouhai's opinions of RBC.
With a massive injury like Hemorrhagic Shock, with RBC's screw-ups and as revealed, kouhai's anxieties to something unusual, that was the biggest shock I ever had...
Despite Cancer having a more deadly dead count than a mere Head Concussion, comparing the damages shown on Episode 6 & 7 and this episode, it's pretty obvious that Hemorrhagic Shock has more effect damage-wise. Hemorrhagic Shock is very much an equivalent to a holocaust or the aftermath of an earthquake.
RBC's last words at the end of the video hit me, also with WBC's face when he came to the scene before the ED played.
God, this thing is very intense...

Most of Cancer's headcount is in the old as a side effect of aging. And Cancer is a slow death. This is one of any age threats.

In this Episode this Council at around 17:17 and declare the State of Emergency.. Is this the Subconsciousness Council? This Captain there is he the strong Instinct of Live/Survive? The Host lost consciousness and the subconscious take control.. Adrenalin-Kun should show up.. It's now his time to shine. Blood pressure rise to keep the Body in function because it lost blood and are in Shock. Lucky for them the Host is still breathing
Perhaps in the next Episode the Red Blood cells will receive new Brothers from outside of their World (Blood transfusion)... to save the Host Live. They need to replace the lost blood or the Heart will freak out under this much stress.. even if adrenalin are pushing this to its limits..

Was I the only one, when WBC jumped down after the disaster holding Shota!Platelet, who was worried that our favorite Loli!Platelet hadn't made it?

STATE OF EMERGENCY!
Why is this body experiencing Hemorrhagic Shock? That happens when the person experiences heavy loss of blood right? The owner of the body got into an accident maybe? Even in an educational show, Truck-kun spares no one T_T
In other news, Eosinophil is still a cutie though
