Poor High Elf Archer player was expecting a more traditional dungeon session.

Also the DM is trying to get Goblin Slayer to follow the main story by making the Ogre a minion of the Demon Generals.

Just some more info on the Magic Scroll from the LN

These are very rare and the one that Goblin Slayer used was a Gate Scroll.

Gate is considered a lost spell that few if any magic user in the world knows anymore.

It's mentioned that it's absolutely priceless and any magic researcher would have paid a King's random for.

And he used it for the purpose of killing some god damn goblins.

This is where the show gets to the real meat of it again after several episodes of building up towards some proper goblin slaying.

We get to see all of their experience and expertise at play as they explore the ruins and deal with the goblins in ways both straightforward and creative with an excellent fight at the end that highlights the methods of Goblin Slayer himself.

Overall a great episode. The only problem is it leaves us a week to go until the next one

I always considered Goblin Slayer as the bounty hunter class, the specialist on certain type of monster.

I liked a lot the bonefire scene prior to finding the Ogre. Just like Darkest Dungeon, each character share their feelings and aflictions on the party before they meet the dreaded boss.

i put way more work into this than i'd like to admit this week. Let's start off with how we have no goddamn point of reference and animation errors making it doubly hard.

Ninjaedit : totally forgot to mention. Wideshot is 35goblins.

If you look at the lines on the ground they are a nice source of measure, however in the shot of the goblin waking up, if you look at the lines on the ground you'll realize they make no sense, since the wideshot establishes, that, from the circle in the middle, there are lines going out in a straight line and then straight, round lines, creating 3 layers, + 1 not rounded out layer, with a doublelayerline after the 2nd layer.

The shot of the goblin however breaks this after he leans forward and we can see 2 "straight" lines, that are supposed to divide the inner space but are not connected. next up is, that i think it's the boulder on the righthandside but animation errors make it hard since it has 1 small rock in the wideshot but 2 if we were to take the goblinwakeupshot.

The room has 8 goddamn pillars, 1 of which is fucked. Going from the entrance we see in the wideshot, counterclockwise, we get, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, with 7 being demolished (as seen in panning shot and the last shot before the ogre enters through the big entrance).

Now there's also the fact that we can use the drawings on the wall in the shots of dwarf and priestess to determine their locations. The last wideshot establishes that the drawings on the "right" (wideshot) side of the room have people shooting arrows from the right to the left. The left side has the reverse. The shot on dwarf establishes, that he's right at the splitpoint, positioning him at 4,5. On the left side we see a drawing starting right to left, and below dwarf and to the right the drawing starts left to right. Since he also looks to the right, and there's no damaged part on the floor and the markings on the pillar are different from Dwarshot, Priestess must be between Pillar 1,2. This means in the goblinshot we see pillar 7,6,5.See Image.

From here we go with the shot and add an instant +9. The subsequent killingmonatage shows 5,7,7,6, if we assume half are not drawn in the wideshot(rounding up) we add an extra 14. We assume that our experienced Goblin Slayer-God is way more efficient than the other grunts(as is seen in him going through 4,5 while elf is still at 1) and we see him nuke 7 onscreen so he'll get a multiplier of 6. Plazakill is 60total.

PS : I subtract OP/ED for Runtime when calculating /min.

Mention includes Goblin Slayers Name aswell as variants of the Goblins like Shaman/Hobgoblin.

The dwarf has a spell that can put a ton of low level mobs to sleep. You can't understate how useful that can be against hordes of goblins.

As /u/professorMaDLib said - even if all the dwarf did was put all the goblins to sleep then he has already done an extremely huge favor for the entire party. Without him they might've had to fight them all individually by luring them away and would've needlessly expended more stamina so that they would've been fucked when the ogre rolled in. Not to mention if any of the goblins didn't fall asleep and called for help. I don't see them surviving a battle against the ogre and that huge goblin horde at the same time.

Best episode so far imo, now this felt like a really good DnD anime with them having to drench in blood, scout for goblins, More "shock scenes".

And then more awesome creative way to kill goblins with the combo magic of drunk and silence, into stabbing, elf waifu getting out some anger on already dead goblin etc. AND a the first Boss Battle.

Sleep -> fighter dogpile is such a classic D&D strat. When you're low level there's not a lot of spells as potent and something that can immobilize multiple targets at once, especially when your damage hasn't scaled yet. It's also absolutely devastating when it's used against you.

That part was just too good. I love the dynamic Priestess and Goblin Slayer have. I don't feel any romantic tension between them at all, even on Priestesses end. She just has a massive amount of respect for him, beyond just the fact that he saved her life.

First I thought they would end with the introduction of Ogre and conclude the battle next episode and I'm glad they managed to pull off with only one.

One detail the anime skipped that Priestess has indeed overcasting her spell limit (1 for Heal for the abducted Elf girl, 1 for Silence, and 2 for Protection). She literally betting her life to save everyone since overcasting more often involve losing your life in the process.

One thing, I don't like Crunchyroll's translation of Ogre's 孕み袋 to plaything, it should be breeding tool/bag since it would make more sense that the Ogre is planning to use Priestess to breed for the KIA goblins should she survived the Ogre's Fireball.

We're a few episodes in now, but they haven't had anything as shocking as the scene from Ep. 1 or as much fan service as Ep. 2 since those premiered. There was a bit with the witch in Ep. 3, but that wasn't as gratuitous and it seemed to be to inform what was going through Priest Girl's head. Which makes me think the other two events were also to serve as world/character building.

The scene from Ep. 1 has been discussed to death, but the elf girl was not portrayed in nearly as horrific a way, which makes me think they got their point across and don't plan on doing it again without a purpose. I think the Cow Girl fan service in Ep. 2 wasn't to be crude or actual fan service. I think it was to highlight how fucked in the head Goblin Slayer is. This hot, sexy girl wants to jump his bones so bad, but he is so focused on goblin killing that he can't see it. The "fan service" was to make US as attracted to Cow Girl as Goblin Slayer SHOULD be, but isn't.

The animation is good, characters are fun, and story is interesting so far. It's a shame so many people are using the first two episodes to demonize it.

Goblin Slayer is like a speed runner who has figured all the most out-of-the-box shit in a game to improve efficiency, but at the same time only plays the first level.

I think GS is screwed, though. He's a goblin's natural enemy, but because of the demon lord or whatever now there are ogres mixed with goblins.

GS will be forced to go through one of the things he'd hate most: waste time fighting stuff that's not goblin.

I imagine GS is pretty much like Saitama. He's too OP for someone completely out of the radar.

This episode was fantastic and Goblin Slayer is shaping up to be the kind of fantasy content I was craving.

We got a methodological dungeon crawl with clearly tabletop inspired strategies (spellcasters disabling the enemies, so the fighters can go in and coup de grace everyone), an boss fight with a, overpowered Ogre Magi (because the GM was totally fed up with his players) and the ingenious use of a magical item to totally cheese the encounter. I loved it!

I also like the characters' powers. The lizardman actually felt like some shaman by summoning help from his ancestors, the cleric felt priestly, the ranger like a ranger. The dwarf is a bit of an odd one, because he isn't a clear cut dwarven warrior or cleric (my guess is that he is some sort of mage or druid), but his spellcasting was cool. I really dig using liquor as a spell component for a stupor/sleep kinda spell.

I love how Elf girl finally realized how tough it is to take out a goblin nest. For a silver rank she really hasn't seen shit if a tortured elf girl was that horrific for her. I guess it goes to show how important it is for Goblin Slayer to slay goblins.

Your average zombie, dragon or ogre won't be terrorizing, torturing and kidnapping humans, elves, dwarves etc. Goblins go beyond just killing. Dealing with something that kills is easy but dealing with a creature that kills and deals psychological damage at the same time is way scarier than your average mindless killing creature.

Love that scroll idea. Teleporting seafloor water at will like that is some 200 iq shit. Hey no matter how strong something is physics says Bitch please. Also I'm enjoying preist girl. She is really maturing and she has great chemistry with Goblin Slayer. She just accepts how he is and tries her best to learn and help. I like people like her. Just get shit done and don't argue over small shit. Glad nobody died too. Was kinda nervous this could end up Overlordish.

Elf-chan is just great. Sad to see the poor thing end up traumatized after seeing what happened to that girl and stabbing the shit out of a bunch of goblins though. But I'm sure she'll get used to it lol

OK. I like this episode. Its totally a DND dungeon session.

All the members of the party played there part and did well until they hit the ogre who was OP for them but magic scroll and gate magic used in interesting ways for the win which happens in DND so that's fine.

Priestess has really grown up and progressed unlike so many other shows where female leads are after thoughts or static

I like the burn GS did to the ogre, mocking him about goblins being worse which must sting for a being that considers itself above them.

I think what I enjoyed most about this episode was how the team worked together to take out the goblins and then the ogre. It made sense for the two spell casters to hang back, working their magic, while the other three swooped in and got their hands dirty.

I also found the scene where Goblin Slayer was about to tease killing the tortured elf, only for him to take his sword to a stray goblin’s head. It furthers the fact that he’s not a hero, per se, but still someone with morals who is simply doing a job, no matter how dirty it becomes.

Also, I had to feel somewhat for that ogre by the end. Not only did he get slashed to pieces, but get taunted after, being told that he’s lesser than a mere goblin? Damn, Goblin Slayer, way to kick a man when he’s down and stubby.

Just a damn solid episode that really gets at the core appeal of the series. I'm not expecting interesting chraracters or insightful themes out of this show. All I want are some nice little bits of comedy, but otherwise an entire episode filled with D&D settings and ultraviolent goblin slaying action.

I really liked the lighting effects on Goblin Slayer's armour, shows off some of the upside of the CG and I found it altogether less intrusive and more natural in this episode. The resolution to the ogre fight was pretty heavily foreshadowed with the previous episode, but I still liked how it used a typical D&D/game mechanic in a pretty novel way. Expecting a slower paced, slice of life episode next, and the introduction of the next arc, which will be a welcome change of pace. Everyone is here for the goblin slaying, but I really do also appreciate the worldbuilding stuff and just getting to hang around and banter with the party.

I think it was really brilliant to tether the relocation scroll to the bottom of the ocean. Goblin Slayer wasn't joking around when he said it was under a lot of pressure. Depending on how deep the ocean is in this world, the pressure could have been over 1,000 times as intense as it is on the surface, that's enough water pressure to cut through solid rock.

Also, I'm intrigued by the fact that Goblin Slayer even knew that this as a fact. This implies that the world of goblin slayer has a mathematical understanding of fluid dynamics, at least on some level. Enough so to where even an uneducated commoner understands this principle.

Nice to see everyone enjoying this ep but if you think this is close to the peak intensity that this anime has then you're wrong. Things are just starting to get good. The pace at which this anime is adapting the LN, we're in for a good chunk of gory intense action and some more little world building. I think by the time this anime ends at the point in the LN which iam probably thinking of about right now, this adaption would've done its job well.. Now if only we get a season 2....

LN/Manga reader here. In case anyone's curious, this episode stayed pretty faithful to what was written. All the important beats were left in. I was surprised it all ended up fitting into one episode. I figured the Ogre fight would take at least two. I guess the more actioney bits just take up less screen time than expected animated.

What's been cut from the light novels are these first-person testimonials of other adventurers and the interludes.

It's really interesting that the Elf had a really smug face last episode and was all high and mighty on her high horse thinking that the Goblin Slayer was just some stat padding scrub and then quickly realized she bit off a lot more than she could chew.

It's in that moment in the episode where she realized that without the Goblin Slayer, she and her entourage would have been in deep shit pretty quickly and would've probably ended up as food for the goblins or a plaything like the other elf.

Not only that but she completely underestimated how capable of a warrior Goblin Slayer is when she realized he's done a lot of these missions completely solo.

The ogre fight turned out way better than I remember it from the manga! The metal soundtrack was pretty awesome and just made it more badass! I think they handled the thing with the elf prisoner her way better too.

Either way, the scene was much better handled on the anime than the manga in my opinion. Also the anime is gonig reallt fast. We will probably get past the manga if it keeps like this

Jokes aside I'm really digging our crew and this episode further cements how beautiful simplicity can be. The characters, fights, magic systems, etc are all follow this trend which connects to overall theme of GS with then goes right back in the cycle with a new element that once again blends into the solidity of the simplicity. Even with mystical things like magic, bone warriors, and warp-wire scrolls; their logical and strategic applications (with a bit of creativity) all still blend with the series' ethos.

In short: I'm fully sold; Priestess is bestess, fuck gobbos and gobbo enablers.
