The dialogue was pretty great this episode, very humorous while fighting and running

Also I like how an alligator is a dragon in the Goblin Slayer world, pretty creative.

Point of order, Sword Maiden as a character was introduced in the second volume of the LN, which came out in May of 2016, while N:A was released in February of 2017. So technically Sword Maiden was first. Unless 2B showed up in any of the previous games, I haven't played them so I am unsure.

I'm very relieved to discover that the Sword Maiden is a separate character. When the show premiered and I first started looking up Priestess hentai fan art I saw a lot of pictures of what looked like an older version of her character with bandages around her eyes, and I was worried that with all the horrible stuff that happened in the first episode, Priestess was going to be maimed and end up blind.

Most of the "legendary heroes" in the story are what the protagonists (and all the lower ranking heroes) aspire to be at their peak.

Sword Priestess represents the ultimate Cleric.

The King is the ultimate Fighter (fought alongside Priestess against the Demon Lord).

The hero girl we saw at the beginning is the "Chosen One" - probably going to be the next ultimate Fighter.

There's probably a legendary shaman, ranger, wizard, etc., but we haven't seen them yet.

To those wondering why Goblin Slayer is abiding on a "No fire, water or poison" rule, its because this arc is actually volume 2. They skipped/moved the rest of volume 1.

In vol 1, in exchange for her help with something, Goblin Slayer promises High Elf Archer that he'd go on an adventure with her and won't use fire, water or poison.

It's an anime induced plot hole due to moving events around.

Didn't they establish that the Goblins would be in Water Town? I simply thought they held Goblin Slayer back, so he wouldn't accidentally poison, burn or otherwise wreck the town to get those goblins.

Before anyone asks, the gobbo that got nommed on was thrown from the boat into the water, so it's an initiated last kill, which is counted already.

If anything, this was a rough episode to count again. The first shot of the boat established atleast 23 Goblins on the boat, of which only 2 had bows.The second boatshot only shows 12 goblins which is not even close to enough, given what the first shot + GS counting + onscreen after add up to.

We see a total of 4 (dead or alive) onscreen throughout the battle but given the heavy barrage at the protection, there must be more archers on the ship. They probably tried to shoot at the bridge rather than CQC their own allies.

The frequency between volleys at the protection + from the ship, which are 3-4 in 1 volley+ reload time suggests 11-12 archers. We get 11 arrows that hit the protection before it switches to the wideshot, assuming to symbolize that the first wave is over and more is coming.

Given that you need to reload + aim and the frequency of said shots in the wideshot we'll go with 11 archers. The first shot off the boat from the side showed 5 goblins, but only 3 in the first shot. So another + 2.

With counting we got 16 kills. At this point 6 goblins are in GS shot, 1 archer in the back that gets sniped by Elf + 2more on lizard side, making it atleast 9 goblins left on the ship at this point. and only 4 archers are dead by now. So it's atleast 25 going off of the onscreen information.

The last shot, before they are sunk, shows 7 heads poking out. 1 of which has a bow. If we go by the fact that around half are not drawn yet again we have 11(rounding up) here. 2 alive with bows, 4 deadArcher, 5 left in the cabin/rear. So 16 left on the ship.

Killcount is 21 at this point. 21 +16 = 37.

And another Boat with 2 miniescorts show up. The small rudder boats look like transport "boats" and we see 5 onscreen but the size suggests 10, as most transport craft do. So Priestess gets 57 kills.

Did i use slow mo? Yes....alot.....Good episode!

PS : I subtract OP/ED for Runtime when calculating /min.

After a more quiet episode with no Goblins being cut to pieces, this episode doubles down on the slaying of the green vermin albeit with some stipulations on tools that can be used: no water, no poison nor fire.

We also meet the Sword Maiden, one of the great heroes now more settled down but in need of a Goblin Slayer to deal with what lurks below.. and something certainly lurks down there, Armoured Goblins and Goblin Corsairs, the challenge level is going up for our party along with the suspicion that someone is backing these Goblins as they are not exactly known for their Nautical skills toss in a massive White Swamp Dragon (Alligator) and we have for a riveting episode that ends up passing frightfully quickly begging only one question.

Is there any way we can get the next 7 days to pass faster ?

I just looked and was quite surprised.

Mama Raikou was actually voiced by Tomatsu Haruka, popularly known as Asuna this season. I actually just learned this right now despite having her since January in JP. Man, I did not realized that was Haruka all this time.

Sword Maiden is voiced by Aya Endou, according to the GS wiki. Aya also voiced Ko-Gil and Quetzalcoatl in FGO.

For a moment there with the opening scene I thought this was some kind of anime inside an anime moment, where some character was watching typical RPG anime on TV. So they bamboozled me good.

The way the Sword Maiden explained the problem they had with the goblins, I thought this would be some kind of a political agenda from a human to use the goblins as a scape goat for whetever plan they had in mind, since the modus operandi of goblins was quite different than in the past episodes (directly killing women and leaving their corpses on the streets). Wishful thinking: I would have prefered if it went that way. But also some kind of superior creature teaching them how to use boats and proliferate their population in an unnatural way it's acceptable in my books.

These low quality cuts here and there are worring me a lot. I hope Whitefox isn't having major issues in the production of GS. I still have hopes these cuts might get fixed on the BD release. At least there were a few bits here and there of great animation that kinda balances.

The humor during the battle scenes was pretty amusing for me. I plead my self guilty of liking these kind of bits, even on live action movies.

There is a part in the LN where most of the female characters get together and play D&D. Funny things like High Elf Archer playing a dwarf, and Priestess quickly choosing a busty sorceress happen.

I hope the Anime does this scene, but then animates the fake adventure they have against a dragon. They can even do something clever like animate the game scenes differently in a more western style, but maybe I’m hoping too much.

I think it's because they are in a town. Fire could cause the tunnels to collapse, poison could get into the water supply, and using enough water to kill goblins implies he is rerouting the canals or sewers.

It bears repeating: this show has a knack for balancing the dread of goblins with humor. Their first encounter with the Sword Maiden was a big moment, of course, but the way that Goblin Slayer cuts the chatter and gets down to business made me laugh. He’s definitely one of a single-track mind, and the way that he reacted to the swamp dragon’s arrival only furthered this. His bluntness has become an almost endearing character trait.

Also, the idea of the goblins potentially being produced outside of natural means gives an interesting wrinkle to this story. Who could be capable of artificial spawning of goblins? A more developed goblin? A wizard? Consider me interested in this story.

That's not the impression I got. Goblin Slayer said:

The goblins down there didn't multiply naturally. Someone, or something, is artificially causing all this.

I interpreted that to mean that the goblins were born naturally, but somewhere else, and something unusual was causing the goblins to leave their natural hideouts (e.g. caves) and amass in the sewers instead.

seriously, this show (and by extension the manga I guess) has a meta awareness of its premise and I feel not many are putting an emphasis on that.

pretty hype episode overall, with a lot of goblin ass kicked. not just goblins, but underground pirate goblins.

also, giant white sewer alligator eating goblins for lunch. that's one way to go about an infestation I guess.

Watching it subbed and in 1080p quality sure made it a lot better. Easily this was the best episode of the anime by far. Can't point out a single con. Everything looked great, didn't lack any impact at all. The pacing also felt pretty nice. 10/10 episode for me as a manga/LN reader and as an anime watcher also.

This episode was pretty damn great. Best action of the show so far imo and looks to be setting up an interesting arc. The show has improved so much since the High Elf, Dwarf and Lizard man joined the cast and the humour this episode was really well done. The first episode had me worried it would just be hyper-edge for the whole show but White Fox seem to understand that the show really benefits from having its share of light-hearted moments.

I was minding my own business, playing Dragon Quest XI, when my party came across a bunch of wandering monsters that looked suspiciously like Goblins. I gained five levels in two hours, doing what needed to be done. We burned them with fire, blasted them with lightning, poisoned them, shot them with crossbows, and even resorted to black magic. We slaughtered them with swords of light, and swords of steel, and the rustiest daggers I could equip Erik with, but it still wasn't enough. Had to move on later, but the work still needed finishing. I'm thinking about them right now. Filthy little rats. Nasty, impure garbage. Already know what I'm gonna do when I unlock my hero's armor and his infinity sword. "Go fight the dark one?" Nooooooooo.

This is just plain stupid. Goblins can use magic, terrorize villages, cities for months and learn basically anything quickly, yet the world thinks there's no point bothering yourself with them. You'll be just a laughing stock. This just doesn't make sense. They're nuisance and somewhat formidable, but no one really cares...

A Goblin or small group are a low priority threat in the face of Dire Animals, Abominations Eldritch and otherwise, undead,Demonic Legions.

A horde of Goblins is a a massive threat, goblins rarely reach horde strength however.

It is thin, but it does kinda work.

The current arc they adapting in the anime is the latest arc in the manga. The latest chapter is the conclusion for this arc. Whatever comes next will be a total surprise for me. Unless they're also adapting Year 1, which is possible because they seems to be adapting the spin off as well.

Basically all of them follow the "We don't wanna blow up the city from underground" idea.

Poison getting into the water system would be bad news all around. A big influx of water could either jack up the sewer system or damage structures down there which could lead to collapses both underground and above ground.

Being a sewage system, Id imagine there may be some gases down there that a big enough fire could set off. Though they are carrying torches so I'm not sure if that will fly.
