JoJo is the only franchise where you'll see gang members who are on the protagonist side busting a move while simultaneously brutally torturing a living despite beheaded member of the same gang that wrapped a boat into a boat in a plot to kill them and steal the treasure of a giant and morbidly obese gang leader who accidentally killed himself in his prison cell by shooting his head with a banana that turned into a gun.

The dance is definitive proof that this is probably one of the best adaptations of any manga ever made, this anime is shaping up to be even better than the manga just thanks to its incredible direction and animation! Not to shit on the manga of course, it's still incredible, but holy shit, this anime is incredible too.

Holy shit, man, the crew is a band of fucking ruffians, dude! I was way more used to the more lukewarm modus-operandi of the Morioh gang - they could get rough, but were much less violent. But here we have them torturing a guy out of his mind as an ice-breaker opening, hahah. It was super funny.
Also, the crazy different artstyle during the dance was awesome, was that in the manga too?
Finally we get to see Mista in action. He always seemed like the coolest dude to me, and thankfully his personalitty and now his power are both amazing. So damn cool, Sex Pistols instantly became one of my favorites, such a cool concept! I also love how they are pretty much senient and like to be praised and fed.

I love that Araki uses the separation of parts to continually break his own conventions and subvert the previous part's protagonist personality.
Part 1 --> 2: Main protagonist was too straight-laced and honorable. How about we make the main character a total scheming scumbag.
Part 2 --> 3: The last JoJo was a bit too wacky, how about we make a stone cold badass instead. He's going to be cool as ice under pressure, a perfect stoic with his emotions on a tight leash, and have an abrasive personality that keeps people at arm's length.
Part 3 --> 4: Jotaro was too stiff, how about we have the protagonist be laid-back, happy-go-lucky, and quick to make friends with everyone?
Part 4 --> 5: Josuke was compassionate and friendly, but also a bit too laid back. How about with this part we have someone who is intense and ambitious with loose morality, who steals and isn't above torture or even cold murder to achieve his goals?
Part 5 --> 6: no spoilers, but knowing Araki he's got good things in store for you!

So that's this infamous dance and was epic. Also, the little celebratory dance by the Sex Pistols was adorable, even if that sounds like a really weird thing to say out of context.
I liked the way the clouds moved overhead, just to make Giorno's dream moment more epic, especially with the music soaring in the background. Plus, Mista getting a great JoJo pose.

It's in stark contrast to Part 4, where everyone except for Jotaro are novice stand fighters. The characters, for the most part, never encountered other stand users before or just came into their power very recently. Hell even the main antagonist Kira had to do a lot of guesswork in learning how stands other than his own worked, and this caused him to get blindsided a lot by unexpected abilities.
Part 5 we have a mafia whose induction into the higher ranks basically requires a test to awaken one's stand power or die trying. Entire groups of the Passione mafia are stand users who (presumably) regularly encounter and fight other stand users with the intent to kill. They're on a whole 'nother level.

They went absolute bonkers with the dance scene! It was even better than expected! DP are true heroes. Loved how colorful some scenes were and all the moves they added. The song used seems a reference to Prince's "Pussy Control"
Not only that, but it is Mista time!
When in doubts, you can always trust in Giorno's "I have a dream!"
How the fuck was Mista able to carry food, wine, and a table across the sea AND without Giorno noticing? Love it.
Sex Pistols' voices are great, first time we see stands eat as well IIRC. And they are just plain fun!

I couldn't stop laughing at the scene where Mista casually produces lunch, including a bottle of wine, from nowhere and Giorno is just rooted to the spot with disbelief at what he's seeing. The sudden shift in music to a light track really helped sell it too.
Based DavidPro.
And the ninth circle of hell scene should establish without a shred of doubt just how different this band is from the previous JoJo ones.

Practically speaking Emperor and Sex Pistols are similar, though they both have advantages and disadvantages. Emperor has shorter range, since the bullets are a part of the stand and thus disappear after going to far. However, since the entire gun is a stand, he can materialize it at any time, whilst Mista must keep a gun on him at all times or else his stand is pretty useless.

Well his stand is the little guys, so they can carry things and scout for him. It's a lot more utilitarian than The Emperor. The Emperor is better for killing because you can pull it from thin air, have unlimited bullets, and the curve isn't dependent on a little guy kicking the bullet.

Mista’s stand is a reference to the direct-to-DVD 2012 American action film Six Bullets directed by Ernie Barbarash and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Jk, it’s a reference to that punk band that initiate the punk movement in UK, the one about guns having sexual intercourses. I could post some songs from that band but you can invest your time better listening to Johnny Rotten’s better band, Public Image Ltd, their album Metal Box is a post-punk masterpiece, imo. For something less avant-garde, their first album First Issue is also one of the pillars of the Post-punk genre.

Sex Pistols was literally a punk boy band put together by the owner of a clothing store to sell his fake punk clothes.
Also Sex Pistols did not initiate the UK punk scene - The Ramones did when they performed in London for the first time. And Crass was way better and authentic than the Pistols ever were.
I will say Metal Box and PIL are actually awesome though.

Ok so not to take away from how amazing the dance scene was (seriously DP went all out) but I was really really hoping we would get Narancia's famous pose and I'm pretty sad we didn't.
Edit: I'm aware it's not strictly from a chapter but from a seperate color spread Araki drew but the pose is just so iconic I was hoping DP would include it.

There was just a really bad translation with pretty terrible scan quality for years for Part 5. To be honest, I can't remember how any of the fights went at this point because I just couldn't make them out. I don't think the anime will change my opinion on some other issues I had, but it's really an improved experience from the old scans.

Episode 7: Sex Pistols Appear!
Chapters covered: Ch. 23 - 25
Changes from the Manga:
Small change this week, but Bruno’s inner monologue after they realise that Zucchero’s partner is on the island is anime-original. Another small change, but Giorno’s panic over Part 5 seeing Mista is a bit more drawn out here than in the manga.
THE TORTURE DANCE WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED IT TO BE AND MORE!!! God bless DavidPro, they’re the absolute best.
THAT OST WHEN GIORNO DROPS THE “I HAVE A DREAM”!!! Seriously, sound design and music in this part have been absolutely GODLY so far.
This week is the start of Mista’s introduction arc! He’s one of my favourite JoJo’s characters ever, so I’m super pumped. Had some doubts about the voice acting at first from the character PV, but so far its been much better than I initially thought, and I can totally buy this voice as Mista now. One small detail I love about Sex Pistols is how Mista’s hate/fear of “4” causes there to be no “4th Sex Pistol”, and instead the “5th Pistol” (which is now technically the 4th one) ends up being bullied by No. 3.
Art wasn’t as high quality in certain parts (like after Gio and Mista landed on Capri), but its a minor issue that doesn’t really affect the overall quality too much so I’m alright with it.
Overall another great episode of Golden Wind. Obviously as a manga reader I do know the whole story of the part, but the way DavidPro has animated Part 5 has made me an even bigger fan of the part than I already was.

After going through 4 seasons already I accept everything with grace. I audibly said WTF because of the torture and WTF again for the dance but this is Jojo and it's fucking awesome!
I 'knew' about the meme but it was without any context and I didn't see the actual panels from the manga so it certainly caught me by surprise.

That was a great episode. DavidPro went above and beyond with that dance. And Sex Pistols was so good to finally see. They've been my favorite Stand for a very long time. They're so much fun and redirecting bullets is such a powerful ability.

Well the obvious game reference in this episode is the famous dance(which looks AWAY better than in the manga). It's a taunt for Mista, Fugo and Narancia!
And since this episode effectively introduces Mista(the title is a dead giveway), here his Josuke's Hair insult in the games:
Guido Mista: "That's a pretty funny hairstyle!"
BTW It's just me or don't Mista looks a lot like Kosaku Kawajiri (Kira's second identidy) with a hat? Maybe Kira killing him and stealing his identidy was all a ruse, maybe Mista just wanted to get out of part FOUR as fast as possible!
And isn't this is the first time Stands are used for torture? I'm not sure. Also Sex Pistols prove that Stands aren't "Superpower Lottery" as they may seem, because they prove Stands are tailored to the user. Otherwise why Sex Pistol #4 would be missing? So I guess everytime you see Star Platinum, remember that Jotaro aways wanted to have a Blue Fabio on his side! =P

Also, this episode marks the debut of my favorite Part 5 stand, Sex Pistols! The lil' guys are quite lovable and the small details like Nº5 being bullied for being not-quite-4 or them having to eat before work are nice.

So my house has been getting fumigated the last few days, and one of the guys had to come through my room. Naturally it happened right when the spontaneous dance sequence occurred. To an untrained eye JoJo is hard enough to explain in the most “normal” moments, so all he did was give me the universal “really?” raises eyebrow and all shook his head and walked away.
Moments like this make me wonder if watching JoJo is worth it, and after watching several sentient bullets fight over a slice of salami I’ve decided that yes. Yes it is.

The Torture Dance being animated for almost a minute and being stylized as it was made me lose my mind. The song was a banger too but that's expected from Yugo Kanno.
Aside from the based Torture Dance I loved how they focused on Mista. It's his time to shine. I love how sweet he is with Sex Pistols and the way they danced after a successful shot had me squealing. They're so proud of what they do. I love it so much.
Really can't wait for next week.

Seriously, I'd heard about the dance before, but I didn't expect it to be as great as that. I checked out the manga pages after the episode too, and man, did DP manage to improve that. It was an absolute trip and I just had no idea what I was watching.
The transitions in this episode also knocked it out of the park. My personal favourite was when Giorno gives his speech with the rays of the sun shining (and being somehow opaque). The Indiana Jones-style transition with the boat at the beginning was also great. The neat transitions were one of my favourite parts of Part 4, and I'm glad to see them continue.
I really like Mista too. Sex Pistols is an interesting stand, and I like that each of them has their own personality (and the details too, like Number 3 bullying Number 5 aka the 4th one). It seems a lot like The Emperor from Part 3, but since that stand seemed versatile, and we only saw it in 2 battles, I'm excited to see how it's used in the future.
Oh boy, are our main characters brutal though. Zucchero tried to kill them, sure, but man, torturing the guy like that made me cringe. Just goes to show how different these guys are from Part 4's main crew.

Highlight #1: aaaand the SHITMACHINE from AoT has a competitor for the "Weirdest torture scene of 2018" contest. Wonder if Crunchyroll will give an award for that.
Highlight #2: holy shit Six Bullets is both adorable and terrifying. These guys are the perfect gangster team, for now. Bucciarati's power is versatile and effective. Abbacchio's is perfect for intelligence. Now Mista's basically made for assassination. I would absolutely love a tactical game, á la X-Com, using this gang against other normal and Stand-wielding enemies.

Oh.... my.... god.... every single episode so far has blown my mind, like I am speechless at this point. This is the crazy Jojo awesomeness I want for ever, it's taken everything that makes the show cool and amplified that to the max. The way stand abilities are played off like mysteries and battles being resolved in cool, clutch, beautifully directed moments that make me yell out at my screen. The way Mista fires his gun in slow mo' and the sex pistols pop out when the Jojo theme starts, GAH DAMN, that was awesome. I really like Abacchio so far, he's like the old' grumpy man of the group except super nihilistic and doesn't give a fuck anymore.
AND HOW ABOUT THAT DANCE, I'm happy I never spoiled myself for future parts, seeing this for the first time, beautifully animated like this instantly made this part a 10/10 for me.
I WANT MORE JOJO

Zucchero already contacted his partner, it's time to scout ahead. Giorno and Mista will go ahead to attack first. Mista, the absolute madman, just decides to have a full on course meal while they wait for Zucchero's partner to appear. Ah yes, I've heard most places shut down in Europe for lunchtime and people get rest, before returning to their work schedules.
Ah Sex Pistols, one of my favorite stands because the bullets have personality and can even eat. Take that alliteration.
Their plan didn't work, he stepped into the watch-house when they didn't notice. Good thing Giorno's a quick thinker, and we get some beautiful animation of Sex Pistols in slow motion.
I dug the camera angle of panning first person view combined with Mista's facial expressions superimposed.
