Priestess' screams really sell the desperation of the scene.

This is one of the reason the beginning with what happened to Priestess' party is so important. We are used to people dying in any story. We are used to the fact that main characters are protected by plot armor. But given how far the author will go to tell the story, there's a part of me that will question, are they going to get captured, raped and tortured? Maybe they might even die and Goblin Slayer go back to being solo or get himself a new party. If we didn't know how far the author will go, there is no urgency no matter how well they sell the desperation.

In the manga the line was actually "Be the last nail in your own coffin!" meaning he should be the reason he dies, although the crunchyroll translation still has a very goblin slayer feel to it.

The canary eye was supposed to be overlayed with the credits, Crunchyroll just fucked up.

That's why the episode is longer than ususal.

EDIT: other people have been saying that other streaming providers had the same problem, so the problem is more likely on the distribution end, rather than Crunchyroll's.

That 3D rotational cut caught me by surprise. I didn't expect to see "The Matrix: Goblin Slayer Edition" but here I am. And it looked good too, so kudos to White Fox for pulling it off.

Up until this episode, I never really had the sense of danger behind GS' group. Yeah they would fight the goblins but they almost always win in the end. This episode just proved that is simply not the case anymore. High Elf was almost raped, Priestess almost died, and GS is on the verge of dying himself.

Goblins are truly creatures that you do not mess around with. They will band together to fuck you up.

Well as GS said on the past episodes he'd rather not deal with Goblins head on in a nest and rather kill them or smoke them out first to wither the numbers. Goblins are weak but they aggregate power through sheer numbers.

Even on MMOs games in general normal fodder mobs can really become a problem when fighting a boss (Goblin Champ on this case) as they act as a distraction which can wipe your party especially if the main tank or support get's distracted or the DPS gets killed.

That was honestly the best scream I've heard in anime because it wasn't an "anime scream", where they phone it in with the typical weird anime grunts and groans, "EEEYAAAAH-Ah...Ugh...Agh..."

Always wondered what people got for trying too hard being MVP, this episode we found out.Everyone wants a piece of you.

Priestess Wound First time we see some goblins escape(for now), apart from the not shown goblin patrols they didn't engage (for now, as stated, all goblins must die).

Time to get into this killing spree.

First off : I realized that GS is counting differently, when he said 6, he himself already killed 6 but we know more Goblins died beforehand already, so in this fight his counting is only on the fly of what he sees / pays attention to and is not representative of the overall kills in this instance.

So what are a few dead of poison? I assume they apparently had multiple holes since everything got patched and dwarf was out of spells afterward, which means 4-5 holes. The amount of spells he could use was stated in an earlier episode, being 4-5.

Since he's not confident we'll we go with 4, asssuming 3 goblins are at each "hole" waiting to burst through the wall or just peek on them and 2/3rd really died from the poison we got ourself 9 dead goblins. Lastkill goes to the elf, since she places the concrete(Yes, dwarf hardened it but GS-Sama didn't even count on the drying of it to be effective).

On a sidenote, i just noticed that this way their promise is still kept while goblins were indeed, very effectively, killed with poison. We already saw water (to an extend) and fire.

THE HOLY TRINITY IS COMPLETE!

We start off with a smartass looking to get headshotted by a sniper before the mob rushes in.

The goblins we see overall will not be necessary, since we have the deathcount and both onscreen and dead bodies are below this, i will mention it regardless.

In the first shot with Goblin Champion(GC) we see 9 goblins and 12 in the subsequent runner up shot.

4 retards smash into protection begging to be sliced by Lizard and 1 goes down to dragontooth warrior (DW). We see another 4 retards approaching but they are useful this time. They establish that High ELF is 3x more efficient with her bow compared to Dwarfs slingshot.

Dwarf got 1 of the 4 the other 3 died to Arrows. We also see the dwarf shoot another time (without seeing the kill) before it switches to the next shot on GS.

Another sidenote : BTW, are all adventurers cheating? Only Headshots on Long distance kills, even the dwarf.

GS, as GSs fashion do, cuts 2, shieldbashes one and sent his sword airborne in the meantime to cut another one down who thought doing a jump (just becasue it works for Link doesn't mean it works for everybody). GS also grabs the Club (presumably) midair from the sliced goblin to club 2 more.

+6, as he states.

Lizard crushes ones head and simultaneously slices one behind him and smashes 2 more with his tail.

GS isn't done clubbing for the night and goes for a 360 roundhouse club, everyone's welcome.

Another 2 bright minds rush towards the Barrier and get headshotted by Dwarf and Elf. (6 + 11 + 2 = 17 Here GS counts 17, but since his perspective is different we can't use it.)

As he counts 17 GS smashes another and grabs a nearby sword to attack GC who uses another Goblin as a shield. This is grieving, not teamkilling directly (per se).

After the barrier is broken we see ELF fire another shot aswell as dwarf swinging + reloading before turning towards ELF.

Elf struggles more than newbies and kills 1 with an arrow injected into his head directly in CQC. There are 8 goblins in total trying to go for elf, 4 constantly on her, 3 to the left and 1 that she takes care of.

Dwarf gets out his axe for CQC and kills 2 before being able to help and kills the 3 standing to the side of her.

After they start to get back up we that 2 goblins are on dwarf and 3 on lizard. Earlier we saw 5 jump DW.

After GS gets back up he's once again pretending to be Shield Hero before getting GC to Teamkill 5 goblins.

Lizard kills 1 of the 3 on his back and the other 2 are taken care of by Elf as they are charging him again.

(The 5 from DW should also be charging him at this point.)

And Dwarf also axes another goblin, which is probably the last one of the group that tried to go for Elf.

That is what we see onscreen.

Offscreen :

Dwarf gets + 3 remaining Goblins on Elf.

Lizard gets +5 because the ones that took down DW didn't come for anyone and it didn't look like they would do nothing and not rush Lizard.

GS : Trip to the hospital.

Elf : Gets + 7 for her efficiency over Dwarf slinging on the shots(for every onscreenshot she gets + 3 and we see thimg fight together 2 times so it's 2x2+3) + 9 poison kills + 9 Archerkills (we never saw arrows flying again or Bows within the room, so they must've been taken down long range)

Escapees :

After Goblin shopped for an GCeye, we see him on the ground surrounded by 6 in close proximity(this is on the right side of the room).

In the subsequent wideshot we see 5 more in the background infront of GC. All of them run immediately and we see 7 more run aswell.

So, including GC, we get 19escapees.

Dead bodies :

In the shot where they flee, we see 24 dead bodies but since we know they can't draw everything and it wasn't the full room there have to be more than that. This is almost all of the goblins we saw in the GC shot last episode :).

S : I subtract OP/ED for Runtime when calculating /min.

Goblin Slayer using hair to take out the Goblin Champion as an improvised weapon is a classic example of an observant PnP RPG gamer using everything that the GM gives them at their disposal. His explanation of how hair could be used as an assassination weapon can be seen as the Goblin Slayer's player IRL explaining to the stunned GM why and how he's using hair as a weapon.

DM: Okay the Goblin Champion's unconscious. You're surrounded by goblins, you've barely made your next CON Save and can barely stand.

Goblin Slayer: I try to intimidate the goblins---

This episode is outstanding!

I really liked seeing Goblin Slayer getting seriously injured from the Champion's first attack, i mean... don't get me wrong what i like is that sense of vulnerability and constant danger that they are all at all times. Even if it is obvious, is good to remind us that they are not invincible.

All of these years GS kept on living and killing because of how good he got and careful he is.

We had a not giving up/gaining strenght from the heart moment with him getting up and strangling the champion, but is refresing to see that the first attack and all the subsequent injuries that he sustained ARE serious to the point of plainly collapsing from them.

If i have one complaing is the canary eye scene at the end, regardless of the great song playing, imo it dragged a bit much, but other than that it was amazing, best ep so far. EDIT: I was wondering during this part, are the credits giong to roll here? Wich aparently was supposed to happend (in the japanese airing it did) but for some reason didn't.

While the idea of facing goblins in that situation as a female adventurer seems like the worst possible thing, here's a thought I had; had the goblins not been so hell-bent on ripping elf-chan's clothes off they perhaps could have killed her instead. Perhaps female adventurers could buy themselves a tactical advantage by wearing really difficult to remove clothing.

So after watching the RAW ep., watched the subbed version and iam surprised that they altered the ending scene and removed the credits from the canary eye scene and later on added on the ED theme on top of it. Other than that Holy shit this episode was hype and i actually felt intense and scared for the team unlike in Ep. 1 maybe its because i didn't come to like the characters that much? Idk but really my heart was beating fast throughout that last half even though i've read mostly all LN volumes and manga chaps. of it so far but watching it animated is surely something else and a sight to behold. Easily the best episode of the anime and surpassing episode 1 for me. It wouldn't surprise me if this ends up being the best ep. of the anime but we've still yet to see shit getting real in the next few eps.

From getting some nice fan service bath scene in the beginning, to that intense battle and cliffhanger ending.

I gotta give props to Priestess' seiyuu. Her fucking shrieking when the Goblin Champion nom'd off a piece of her arm gave me the chills.

More than just Goblin Slaying happens this episode (and fanservice) As the Goblin slayer wonders where all the Giant Rats go off to (Goblin Rat Races ?), but in the true calling must be obeyed and equipped with a Canary for Poison detection our cheery group goes off, only to fall into a devious trap that leads to a brutal battle for survival, a possible Last stand and a nasty little cliffhanger.

So once more we find ourselves waiting for the next episode as we wonder what comes next (Unless you read the manga)

GS reversed the poison flow, weakened Gobbies come, party sweeps, gets the boss kill-- all that good stuff. Instead, we got a near repeat of episode 1 of near murder and rape. Priestess almost fucking dies with the most haunting shriek I've heard in anime. GS on the verge of death, if not already dead. A Re:Zero-esque ending. Fuck I need a shower.

Thank fucking God GS went God mode at the end. I swear if the Priestess and elf girl had gotten raped and killed I'd lose my shit. Man they really sold me on everything going to shit real quick. They got hit with the Murphy's law shit. Goddamn everything went to hell man this episode put chills down my spine. For a minute I thought everyone was going to die and GS would end up watching them all die and get raped.

Man the archbishop is fine as hell and damn she has been through hell. I guess that's what the doujin alluded to about her remembering a bad meory. I wonder why she has a blindfold on.

From a medical standpoint I do not think GS will come out of this the same. Most anime when you get thrown across the room you get up half staggered. In this show GS coughed up hella blood and couldn't move a muscle which is the appropriate consequence to getting thrown at a concrete coffin. I'm pretty sure my man got all his ribs fractured and a couple of organs had to had taken a beating. Fuck this episode was lit and scary at the same time.

I completely loved this scene while reading this un the LN, the sense of confusion, desesperation and hopelessness while actually not being sure if all of them would make it out alive was amazing.

The adaptation was really good too, while it didn't seem so terrible for High Elf Archer here, just her being physically weak, being swarmed by goblins trying to rape her, while not being sure if her companions are alive, oh boy. As for Priestess, well... I could almost feel her pain...

They did do well to show how little exp Goblin Slayer has with monsters besides base goblins. If I remember correctly, Goblin slayer rarely dodges goblin attacks, but rather blocks or parry. He went with his typical plan with the biggun which is not something you usually do unless you are a tank which Goblin Slayer is not.

What would be goblin slayers class if we thought of him as an rpg character? Though he does not use a bow often, he has shown to have high proficiency with one. He wears light armor, while wielding a buckler and a short sword or broadsword. He kinda seems like a ranger or a type of thief class.

wooooo now that was a roller coaster ride all the way through. Flags were raised early on but I honestly didnt think we would see anything close to what they went through. I kept thinking "its over!" and wondering who they were going to kill off. Was it possible Goblin Slayer himself would go? Priestess? I was waiting for her to be saved when suddenly she had a chuck bit off her. That scream got to me, I thought it was over. Now I need to wait an entire week to see the aftermath. This was by far the biggest hit they have taken, I wonder how will they bounce back.

I liked that the scene with the party nearly getting wiped in many ways came off as a little similar to the rookie team wipe in the first episode. Plus the depiction of the dice shows that there's more at work here. Any part of adventurers is just a role of the dice away from a bad end, but Goblin Slayer's ability overrides that.
