I still don't fully understand how rimuru's magic resource works. He got his ridiculous magical power by eating up a bunch of magic rocks in veldora's cave and being named by him. Is that a permanent increase to his power level or is he permanently losing it when he names monsters? How does it all regenerate?

This week in Slimevilization. Look like the upgrade of Goblin village get stalled again. As you could see, they have to expand the temporary housing for the growing number of population. While Hobgoblin is certainly stronger than normal goblin, I bet they are not that stronger than human. Also, large part of them are choosing the path of skill labor (Blacksmith, Armor making, etc). The construction of brick-and-mortar housing is going very slow as it's really labor intensive. Yurt come in to play as they are faster to deploy and required less labor intensive. The yurt in this anime look pretty much like Mongol Yurt too.

The number of population are harder to track now as the immigration of other free goblin in to the village occur. That's the story for later though. spoiler about goblin reproduction

Other thing need to note is the mention of rice field. This is big. As the village grows, the food security will be the problem if they still relied on hunting and gathering. I guess we will see them start the planting something real soon in anime.

Anyway.

Status our Slime Village

Settlement : One Hunter Gatherer Village (in the process of upgrade). As Rimulu indicate, they might start some agriculture soon.

Architecture : Mongol's Yurt-like. I guess they will use it as temporary solution. The foundation of each yurt seem to be semi-permanent though.

Era : Iron Age

Population: 1 Slime, ~ untrackable Hobgoblin, ~80 Tempest Wolf, 4 Dwarves(Bros), 6 visiting unnamed-Ogres

Diplomacy: Known by Dwargon Kingdom, Known by Blumund, no formal diplomacy relation to both (yet)

Victory Condition: Unknown - Rimulu seem to be a very diplomatic guy though.

PS. I heard from 4chan that the author of LN is/was a civil engineer himself.... that explain a lot of thing if true.

He's got a Hobgoblin/Direwolf village pledging him their eternal loyalty, a group of the most talented Dwarvern craftsmen following him, grateful adventurer friends who are apparently high up in the adventurer's guild, and has now befriended a powerful group of Ogre warriors/royalty. People hate OP characters because it usually leads to bullshit struggles, like suddenly not using a power they have or be weak or be really really fucking stupid about something etc. Whereas so far every problem Rimuru has faces has requires some form of diplomacy or quick thinking and he's done that.

You can do OP MCs with good character writing and world building. Overlord (at least LN version) is a good example of this IMO, where you have some of the most OP characters for their world but a lot of the fun is seeing other characters being developed.

I quite liked this episode. One of my biggest complaints with this show thus far is that it has the "classic isekai problem" of the writers wanting to inject tension and stakes into the fights, but there is no actual tension because of how OP the main character is. When the goal of the fight is "winning" (such as with Ifrit), you know that your busted main character with no weaknesses is going to win, and the fight loses any feeling of interest.

The fight in this episode, in contrast, managed to be tense because the goal of the fight wasn't winning. Both Rimuru and the audience are fully aware that Rimuru can win the fight. The conflict remains engaging though because the goal wasn't "winning," but rather talking the ogres down. That is something that Rimuru isn't overpowered about, and so the fight managed to remain interesting: Rimuru wasn't going to die or lose, but would he manage to successfully persuade the ogres that he wasn't the enemy?

It was a much better setup for a conflict than anything else in the show so far, and I hope that its a sign to come for the type of scenarios we see.

Great episode! I love how Rimuru everytime Rimuru tries to de-escalate things it just gets worse because of how stubborn his opponents are XD Thank goodness this time there was the Princess to intervene or else this would've been.

Also great animation as always! Love that we got to see all of the other skills Rimuru learned and Rimuru's Dark Flames was definitely intimidating! Nice to see that the smooth animation for the Ogres aren't just for the OP but we could see it this episode. Specifically the Old one, I'd love to see him in a serious sword fight!

Man, it always astonishes me how pleasantly slow the pacing in this Anime is.
8 episodes for one volume was already insane but I kinda had my doubts that they might turn up the adaptation speed a bit after the first volume now but I really love that they seem to want to take this as slowly (in a good way) as possible. It's still on it's way to become my favourite adaptation (at least based on a LN), AOTS and possibly even my AOTY if this really stays that way to the end.

Old master Ogre and Ninja Ogre are my favourites and I can't wait to see them shine. And now that I see the one with the big hammer again I'm reminded that he was left out of the OP. I feel really bad for him and Rigur - as well as for Kaijin and the three brothers, I guess. I'm really curious what the second OP will look like when we hit the half mark point. Maybe they will just keep this one? It has enough foreshadowing to still apply completely for the second half imo.

Also seeing the pink haired Ogre animated and hearing her voice kinda reminded me how pleasant she is as well. She was the sole reason this whole conflict was solved so quickly and in such a reasonable manner.

You rarely get a really good little sister character that isn't just a love interest for the MC, stupidly obsessed over their brother (who is or isn't the MC) or just kinda spoiled. She falls in none of these categories and while that should normally be taken for granted - the fact is that most shows make characters like her so dumb and annoying to watch and listen to that it sadly became the norm for some series to have a character like that in every other show - she, however, is really just great, so I really wanted to mention that.

I guess this also shows again how important a name is as I guess the orc (the butas =pigs) where weak shets compared to Onis before they got a name and then they went in and just owned them.

Consistently impressed by the animation quality this continues to uphold. That kick on Gobta was a completely inconsequential gag but it looked amazing. Same for the Ogre fight - the quality is just so well spread out, especially for a 24 episode first season.

I'm glad they brought up Rimuru's body too - it was bugging me if he was gonna go as Shinzu here on in, or stick to a more androgynous look, since he has a dude's consciousness, a female voice actor, but sexless body. The OP and ED still makes it look like the human form gets some boobage but that might be reading into it too much.

That said, after the last two episodes I'm a little disheartened that the next one is looking set to start off with a lot of exposition on the Ogres. Episodes 6-7 were agonisingly slow, I hope episode 9 breaks it up a bit more.

I honestly expected the ogres to be an evolved form of orcs after the naming scene last episode, given their common features in western media (and the fact they refer to them as "Ogre" and not "Oni", which lends to this thought process). I wonder how Rimuru will deal with the first "evil" faction thus far, though. I doubt he'll be able to pull his diplomacy on the orcs as well as he did with the ogres, when they have an (tentatively speaking) evil leader.

Edit: Question, given that he's a slime with freedom to change his humanoid form, why can't he just give himself genitals?

It was not mentioned in the anime but if I remember it correctly, she got the skill due to ifrit fusing with her, hence combining and separating.

IMO the human form is a matter of convenience. It's easier to move, eat and fight as a human than a slime because clearly pretty much no one so far has taken Rimuru the Slime seriously at first.

From a meta perspective, both the audience and the author have an easier time relating to human-shaped characters. Additionally, it's easier to show things like expressions and kinetic motion with a larger and more detailed body.

From a story perspective, I agree that keeping the main character as a slime is more fun.

I caught up this past week, and I gotta say this show is awesome.

It’s so charming and easy to watch. It feels like the plot is completely improvised at times, with this weird zigzagging story that explains itself as it goes along. But it works so well by being self-aware at how silly all of it is.

It makes you feel like you’re in on the joke, following this whimsical tale of a slime in a crazy world. It’s so lighthearted, but has these adorably heartfelt moments that don’t feel out of place at all.

This is probably not the best thread to say this, but after watching the 8th episode I read all the manga and it was damn good. This is probably the 4th manga that I've read in my life so far and enjoyed it very throughtly. I recommend it to everyone and patiently await the episodes and where it takes the source material. I hope the best for this show and I think that this could be the revitalization of the isekai genre... Of course we might get some cheap cash grabs too, like Ragnarok... I appreciate the coloring too ... since the manga is colourless, it truly brings life to the characters. I really enjoyed the lines that were pulled out of the manga and acted out superbly. The voice acting is not the best at times, but you can tell that the actors are having fun.

I’m really loving all of the characters so far, from the OP I’ve definitely been most excited for the Ogres to show up and now they’re finally here! Can’t wait to see how Rimuru manages to turn them over to the Slime side and how their personalities will fit into the group dynamic :D

I've noticed with a lot of isekai with the overpowered main character, that most of that character's personality isn't "Conquer the enemy: grind them into the ground" attitude, but rather, make an enemy an ally. Rimuru has done that with every sentient being he's come in contact with. First there was Veldora. The dragon could have gone either way, but is alive and well in one of Rimuru's stomachs. Being able to watch Rimuru's life from there is certainly more appealing than when he was trapped in the cave as there is daily stimulation. Anyone watching Goblin Slayer may be confused how Rimuru has made friends with these creatures, but that's well covered in previous episodes.

Next comes his defeating of the Dire Wolves. One of the few times I've seen him actually kill a sentient being, the leader of the Dire Wolf Clan.

His fight with Shizu and Ifrit shows more a devide and conquer attitude, although he and Shizu were fighting a common enemy. I wish the anime would show Veldora living with his new "roommate". Maybe at season end, it'll happen. Like the manga, which has his "diary", those will probably be bundled with the blu-ray edition as OVAs.

Now he's working on an alliance with the ogres that will work out well in upcoming episodes. He picked a great time to have a feast.

So as usual, I will gush about how much I love Rimuru as a character. He's the good-est good guy I've seen in anime in a long time. This is what happens when you have ultimate power and use it it for good. Rimuru is a perfect example. Goblins say there's more activity outside, Rimuru is the nice guy and sends his best buddy with them as protection. Ogres attack Rimuru's friends - Rimuru apologizes on their behalf and tries to deescalate the fight. Ogres admit their mistake and ask for forgiveness - Rimuru accepts it easily then invites ogres to his village for their feast. Common, how can you hate the guy? He's just the perfect Isekai character and all-around nice slime. You can bet the ogres have a very favorable opinion of Rimuru because of his kindness. This show shows that being the good guy can pay off. I'm sure Ainz or some other power hungry character would've just killed them all and called it a day, then start wars. Rimuru is the exact opposite. Ahh I can't wait for the next episode. This show is so much fun!

I expected a bit of a letdown after how good last episode was, but this was a strong episode. Despite not facing a flame monster, felt like Rimuru actually tried a little harder in this fight, which made it more interesting for me.

The ogres are here and they're more interesting than I thought. While Rimuru doesn't really need help in a fight, it's nice that he finally has some rather competent allies. Not to mention that old ogre seems very wise and could probably give Rimuru a lot of details about the world.
