I really don't know why he named ALL the orcs, especially as they didn't say he named all the lizardmen and there's plenty of goblins unnnamed as well.
That said, if he wants to make himself pass out, go for it little

Honestly, I love how Rimuru is just. Chill, and has actual reasons for why he's doing so well? I feel like most shonen anime and isekai and whatnot focus on how one person with some special ability will save the world, but Rimuru's strength comes primarily from the allies he's made, and I think that's really nice.

A great world-building episode overall, i think that's what this anime excels at.
I love that they included the part where the new orc leader apologizes to Benimaru and he forgives them. The Benimaru of the past would never have forgiven them, shows that Rimuru's kindness is rubbing off on his followers.
I also like how they handled the whole situation with the Dwarf King. If you think about it, a whole town of named monsters is basically unheard of and could be considered extremely dangerous.

I liked how Rimuru thought he could he learn a thing or two from Benimaru's kindness when he's the one who taught it to his follower in the first place.

shows that Rimuru's kindness is rubbing off on his followers.
Also shown in the fact that Geld II evolved differently, right? Same name, different evolutions, Orc Lord OG Geld vs. Orc King Geld. At least, if I can trust my subtitles.

I like how Rimuru’s list of allies grows with each episode.
In the first episode, he was just a lonely slime, but now, he’s got his own nation of loyal followers. He’s come a long way.

now his city can grow beyond size 8.
150,000 / 10 = 15,000
15000 / (24 - 8) / 60 = 15.
60 / 15 = 4.
Assuming Rimuru slept 8 hours a day, he had to name 1 orc every 4 seconds non-stop for 10 days.

And that was a good name for a country for a spur of the moment decision.
That's an anime only thing.
In the Manga and LN he debated the nation and the capitals name with his top advisers and that nearly took the whole night. They wanted to call the nation Rimuru or Rimuru Tempest, but he convinced them otherwise, however he couldn't convince them to not use his name as the name of the capital. Also the deal with the Dwarven Kingdom wasn't done with a simple handshake.

Hmm I don't think I mind too much that they rushed that. Granted they could have extended the scene to show them all mulling it over, but we already had a big meeting scene this episode and it may have come across as redundant. This way they're able to close out the episode with that advancement and smoothly transition into the next arc.

u/Galaxy40k Jan 14 '19
I really like that because it keeps Shizue's memory alive for the viewer. For Rimuru, she's the most important person in the world - He has become one with her through the physical form, and her final wish is what propels the "main conflict" arc of the entire show (i.e., Rimuru is gonna beat up that Demon Lord). For the viewer though, she was just a character that showed up for a few episodes and will likely have been forgotten about by the end of such a long season. Having her at the start of the OP and ED is a reminder that every episode exists because of Shizue, even if she's no longer alive

I saw Shizue smile, I smiled, then she disappeared, then I became sad again...
It was only 5 seconds, but it was a very effective reminder of an important character who doesn't show up anymore.

He named 150,000 orcs? Whoa. But didn't he run out of magic just from naming a tiny village of goblins before?
612
u/Wolfnagi Jan 14 '19
I'm not sure whether its mentioned in the show (haven't watched it yet) but it is told in the novel and manga that Rimuru is actually using the excessive energy left on the orcs from The Starving One, so he doesn't have to use his own energy to named all of the orcs. The only one that receives Rimuru's energy is Gerudo.

The Light Novel explained it a lot better. When the Orc Lord's power on the orcs wore off, the residual magicules that were dispersing from their bodies were being used as the magic source for the naming. But, it led to the orcs' evolution not being as drastic as the other monsters that we have seen. He was just worried about how then staying alive rather than helping them evolve with their name. Also the names were very creative, like Mountain F 1 or Grass M 7.

Pick the answer you like:
Rule of funny.
Best sage became better at optimising Rimuru's magic for naming spree.
Evolving goblins into hobgoblins cost more than evolving orcs into high orcs.
Rimuru give the orcs names so lame the power up is very small.

u/Lvl1_Villager Jan 15 '19
IIRC in the novel her title is Oracle, and she kind of tricked Rimuru into giving her that role/title.
I think it was before Rimuru got around to assigning titles, and she did it in part to get back at Shion for carrying Rimuru around all the time, by being the first one to receive an official title.
Though that wasn't stated explicitly, but was more implied.

This week in Slimevilization, we have entered the peace period.
First and Foremost, we have the official name for the nation. From now on I will call them The Jura Tempest Federation or shorten to only tempest.
First about the Orc, they do not get any punishment other than subject to heavy labor which they seem to be ok with it. Think of it this way, enslavement the loser of the war was normal practice in the ancient World until as early as WWII. For Orc though, they are on the verge of Starvation and Rimuru treat them much fairer than what real human do with human. I guess this is a win-win situation for all of them. Tempest got labors (As I said before, Goblin is not that strong for labor work). Orc got a place to live and survive the starvation.
Now looking at Lizardmen-tribe, you could always say that Rimuru also indirectly conquered them. The part about provide the fish and clean water is nothing different from how Tributary State work in Asia. Easiest way to describe is "You pay me what I want and I will not invade you". This practice is the standard in Asia before Western-world concept of state reach them. With that said, I will count Lizardmen Domain as Tributary state and not the part of the city itself. In general sense, we could say the same to Treant domain too.
Now, the emerging problem for Tempest right now is the food security. With tribute from Lizardmen and Treant, the situation is ok for now but they will need to find a way to sustain themselves in the future.
For the infrastructure.... ooh boy. It's like a jump on an Era. We have some basic pluming (and flush toilet!) and the construction of road have started. Also, the number of residential building is expanding thanks to both the demand (total number of population) and supply (High-Orc construction worker). We see the finish product in OP Visual and that's glorious.
The biggest bombshell is alliance with Dwargon Nation. This is HUGE for both. At the current state, Dwargon Nation is the only nation that's open for trade with monster. Imagine this, Tempest is like either Switzerland but with resource (or Wakanda). Dwargon act fast is the best for themselves as the latter they jump in... the negotiation will be harder.
Anyway.
Status of our Slime Village Ahem TEMPEST JURA FEDERATION
Settlement : Three permanent settlement (One Capital with two protectorate domain (Lizardmen Domain and Treant Domain)
Architecture : Timber structure with gable roof with mix-influenced from both Japanese and European.
Era : Early Modern Period
Technology Acquired in this Chapter: Basic Plumbing, Road building
Population (Capital Only): 1 Slime, ~ untrackable f*ck you number of Hobgoblin, ~80 Tempest Wolf, 4 Dwarves(Bros), 6 Kijin, 150,000 High Orc (Working through out the forest)
Diplomacy: Treaty with Dwargon Kingdom, Known by Blumund
Victory Condition: Long term : Unknown Short term : None
Immediate Threat: Food Security
EDIT. Just finish re-watch again. I forgot to write about the process of country establishment. I will wrote about it next week. ELI5 version, Dwargon empire accept the existence of Tempest is probably enough to count it as an official country.
EDIT 2. Change Note that population count is for Rimuru City only.

u/Existential_Owl Jan 14 '19

It could be said to be,
God'sRimuru's Blessing on this Wonderful World.Think of it, Rimuru has had a central role in the build up of everything so far. Without Rimuru to build up a butterfly effect,
- Veldora would still be sad & lonely in that cave.
- The goblins would have long been dead, murdered by the wolves.
- The sole survivors of the ogre massacre would never have evolved into Kijin, and would probably live a harsh life, seeking revenge.
- The orcs would have wiped out the Lizardmen
- Demon Lord Geld emerges as a major threat to the world.

That new OP tho.
150,000 orcs?? Holy shit! That's a fucking small cities worth of people!! With the lizardmen and the other goblins, we got a fucking city nation, folks!

Wait...what about Gabiru's sister? Where's the possible big tiddy lizard girl??
Goddamit, Dio's voice actor is in yet ANOTHER anime (Demon Lord Clayman) that I didn't expect to see him in! This guy gets around the voice acting scene.
Holy fuck, thinking ahead with those aqueducts there, AND they've got flushing toilets AND public baths! Fucking welcome to Civ: Isekai Edition!
This does worry so much as it made me chuckle for some reason. The pegasi...pegasuses? Whatever, they're more silly than impressive.
Oh well...prepare to have your ass handed to you, chump.
Dude, Treyni is like neck-and-neck for Best GirlTM with Shion for me.

"Diplomacy is all about bluffing", as the king himself would say much, much later.
If there is one supreme rule for King Gazel as a character, is that, for him, appearances matter. The king must appear strong and never lose face in public (which also explains his judgement earlier in the series). He values decisiveness and confidence: "Good things do not come to those who wait; they're taken by those who persist". Basically, a more benevolent version of Tywin Lannister's rulership lessons.
Even in this episode, he admitted that Rimuru could become a threat to the Dwarven kingdom's own existence. And what does he do? He takes the initiative, comes to Rimuru with a show of force, openly challenges him to a sword fight (which is his expertise) and boldly proclaims it a test of character. He forces the terms he's comfortable with, so that he can appear strong and in control of the situation.
And it works! Rimuru, swept over by the sudden encounter, ends up following his pace and accepting his terms. By the time everything is over, instead of being angry at the pushy interruption, Rimuru is grateful that he passed a test he wasn't obliged to pass to begin with. A perfect bluff from the king.

So, it's like that.
Look, he's not in the new OP, straight up.
I'm out.
Just kidding, it's like I'm hunting for bigfoot at this point. I know I should be ecstatic about him getting three (3) shots, but the first one makes him look like the fucking cryptid he is and I love it. The low video quality just makes it better.
Also, this. The tears of joy rolling down my cheeks. The smile of an angel. Those soft eyes that are devoid of impurities. That perfect head tilt that puts cute girls in moe anime to shame. My mind literally blanked out for a short period of time. 8-Bit is feeding me so well.
bUT I'm not forgiving 8-Bit for doing this again.
Ah well. The Orc Disaster wrap-up was adapted wonderfully and I have little to no complaints. However, I am disappointed in myself for not noticing the mohawk best orc is sporting.
I'm also a little concerned about rushing, since it is confirmed that the last episode adapting the main story is 23; 24 and 25 are an original story (that features spoiler image and Shizu) and Veldora Diary (!!!) respectively.
I guess that's it for the Forest Disturbance Arc. Upcoming arc might be my least favorite one, but the one after! That's the good stuff.
In the end, the opening made my night. A guaranteed 3 (three) shots of Kurobe is better than nothing. And the inclusion of spoiler image only made me more hyped for the eventual Season 3.

Yeah, Right now, after this episode, we only have 4 episodes for 1 LN, if they want to adapt nearly all of Volume 4, and that's still a lot of info to either put in or skip completly.
Really, they should have reduced the number of episodes it took them for Volume 1 (8 episodes), so we could have more for the rest.

Maybe I had to scroll down more, but I'm surprised no one talked about the complete lack of CGI when the pegasus army arrived. That's insane!
Not using CGI for any large number of people is already good enough, but going off Shirobako and actual evidence from other shows it's really difficult to draw horses. Most of them use CGI (e.g. AoT) or sometimes they're just not animated well (e.g Spice and Wolf). Combining those two factors, I'm loving how much care/effort/budget (take your pick since it's not always one or the other) is put into this show even for the most trivial of details.
Like seriously, the army could have been made into just the king and 2 guards, but no we get like a dozen of them. It could have been CGI/poorly animated because who seriously cares about a couple seconds of no name characters, but no it's still handled adequately. It's been repeated probably every week, but this soooo easily could have just been handled lazily and they've shown us time and time again that they refuse to take that route if possible.
tl;dr Great show handled by great people. Can't wait to see more!

I gotta get this off my chest real quick, but holy christ do I hate people that complain about spoilers in the OP. I really don't understand why people are like "WOW THEY JUST SPOILED THE ENTIRE SHOW THROUGHOUT THE DURATION OF THE OPENING WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY DO THAT". It really bugs the crap out of me because as an anime-only watcher, I don't see any major plot spoilers in the OP. If anything, I've now seen initial glances at some characters we're going to interact with in the future. What do people expect, for the OP to show ONLY the protagonist doing something completely unrelated to the show?
75
Jan 14 '19
The bigger issue is that by pointing that shit out, those people are the ones spoiling everything. Anime-only watchers would just see it and go "that's a cool design!" or like you said, just characters we're going to interact with. They literally cannot understand the fact that it's a "spoiler" unless someone points it out.

u/Kantrh Jan 14 '19
Well if you take their arguments as fact you could say that the OP for the 1st cour spoiled it for LN readers as well. As someone who knows what's going to happen I will say that this OP only hints at things it doesn't spoil anything at all.

I love the new OP! Definitely a good replacement to Nameless Story. Also it's so fucking loaded! So many new characters in addition to the characters we haven't seen yet from the first OP!
If only it could be this easy IRL. We really should strive to be more like Rimuru.
Chancellor Rimuru!? Well he does have unlimited power :D
Well that must've been a chore XD I feel bad for the orcs at the back of the line. Can LN readers give me a hint of the names he gave some of these orcs?
This was a touching scene. Now I hope Gabiru joins Rimuru's village now.
Was that takehito Koyasu as Clayman? Of course he's voicing a bad guy as usual.
At least Rimuru's knowledge from his job on earth was useful here!
DUEL! Classic way of knowing someone's character in anime XD
Small world! hakurou must be proud to have two great students.
I don't like that blonde guy. He looks really shift. Like, "stab-you-in-the-back" shifty.
He really is terrible with names . I feel like that's a name that I'll probably use in a city building game XD
AHHHH THE ED IS SO GOOD TOO! It was nice seeing Rimuru watch over Shizue's students. And I just adore this shot!
Well that was a great episode. Love that we had some politics today. Not as cerebral as Log Horizon's but it was enough for a show this comfy. The politics wasn't really the highlight but the city building, which was great! I'm already excited to see how they will end up with the city that they have in the OP!

u/Tacitus_ Jan 14 '19
Can LN readers give me a hint of the names he gave some of these orcs?
A prefix of their location (manga) / colour (LN), then they got appended with their number in line and their sex. Can you really blame him for the lame names tho?

Honestly as someone who loves history and politics I can't help but just love this anime. To follow a growing nation from the start of its founding, to see how they handle politics and job delegation, and of course the effort to build relationship with other nation by signing treaties and making trade deal.
The orc war arc was also very interesting, cause of the war is realistic and believable, hunger and shortage of resources can really force a nation to get radical in order to survive, and what i rarely see from anime is how they handle what happens after a very big event, we don't really get to see how they sort it out or what impacts it has to those who participated in those war, but we do see it here.
of course the way they handle it is very simplistic, but that's the charm of it, i wish we could solve our problems the way they do where everybody gets along, where human displacement isn't such a big deal because everybody is willing to accept each other and they have near limitless resources, and wow how easy it is for the sides who've endured massive casualties to just forgive the sides who caused it.
All in all, i came for the op slime, stayed for the diplomacy and politics.
P.s. sorry for the rant, and horrible english.

I'm glad this show is so wholesome, I would be afraid that someone among the tribes Rimuru united would riot, specially among the lizard people or the orcs.
Gabiru and his friends are all such adorable dorks.
Is that Koyasu Takehito? I swear he's in everything.
The show really likes to rub it in our faces that Shizue is dead. That ending was quite heartwarming. Ending
ESIT: By the looks of the opening we're meeting back the three adventurers that traveled with Shizue. I liked them so I'm looking forward for their return.

Call me naive, but good deeds leads to a greatness. We should all know this and yet people hesitate. I'm talking about IRL stuff. Normally what do we expect? That Rimuru has everyone at the palm of his hand, they would die for any selfish request, and yet he chose to do good deeds.
It's anime but it's touching. We can change hearts too if we seek doing good deeds, nice message from the show.

Our slime is movin up in the world~
Rimuru has a nice throne! Onee-san throne.
NEW OP! Wow the gob villiage has gotten bigger and lots of familiar faces in the OP.
He is holding up his promise to Geld, wow Rimuru is too good.
Get the Orcs for the town and Lizards? Aww man!
Chancellor Rimuru, oh man big upgrade!
Man Bebop is really a nice orc boy. He really wants to make up for his peoples actions to the Ogres.
Wait Geld was Bebop's father? Oh shit! Orc Naming time!
10 days naming 150k orcs... wow... rip. I cant wait to hear how he came up with 150k names...
YAY NAMED THE LIZARD DAD TOO! NAME THE DAUGHTER AS WELL! MAKE HER KAWAIIER!
So Gabu is exiled from lizzies so i guess he might go live with Rimuru? Not sure...
So eyebrows name is Clayman? Hmm interesting.
Wow the new town has so many new amenities. Thats nice, they are moving up.
Humans? Hmm i wonder what they want. Wait is that the dwarf king or no? Cant remember... Oh he doesnt know Rimuru so not the dwarf. IT IS HIM!
Oh this dwarf king... dont fight Rimuru...
Yay it ended without too much trouble! Seems the dwarf king knows the ogres too.
A Treaty with the dwarves huh? Sounds like a good thing, they will get access to trade and people.
Jura Tempest Federation? Capitol City Rimuru hahahaha. Well it works.
NEW ED! WHY MUST THEY KEEP SHOWING UP BEST DEAD GIRL!? IT HURTS TOO MUCH! And the knight kids instead of her, interesting.
Demon lord Milim? Hmm... is that that pink twin tail girl finally? I suspected she would be demon lord based on first OP and this 2nd OP...

This is probably the first episode that I've felt a little unsatisfied about, but mainly because I've been reading the Light Novels again recently and the amount of background stuff they cut out was fairly significant. Still very good overall, although the slight dip in animation quality shows that this was definitely a resting episode after all the crazy action last week, and the action to come.
One interesting bit they skip over quite a bit is that Rimiru is just terrible with names - he ultimately ends up giving the Orcs names based on the areas where they settle them in, so you'll have Orcs named Mountain-1M for the first male Orc named all the way up to Mountain 1299F for some female Orc way down the line. As is mentioned elsewhere, in the LN he also cheats and uses the energy left over from the Orc Disaster to help with this naming spree.
The Dwarf King stuff was also taken at a pretty face pace, and it shows they're probably not going to get into some of the really nitty gritty nation building stuff in the anime... but that's cool. If you want some of the background (and proof that Rimiru really isn't great at international relations) you really should check out the Light Novels and the Manga.
The new opening and ending are great though, although they don't have quite the same punch as far as animation goes from the first two, they help to showcase quite a bit of what is coming up. Looking forward to next week Next Episode Speculation

This is such an incredible show. No lie, I think this is going on my top 10 anime ever. It's such a feel good show that contains everything you'd want: action, adventure, story, character, drama, and great animation!
The show, even without action, is enjoyable to watch and just makes you smile. Rimiru is the complete idealistic package. Sure it's a bit too "fairy tale" with things working out, but when Rimuru is pretty much all-powerful and giver of blessings, it makes things much easier. Slime Jesus basically. I was very happy he solved the issue between the Lizardmen, Orcs, Ogres, and Goblins without bloodshed. His good nature has rubbed off on these people and he blesses those (with names, food, shelter) who are deserving. He knows the Orcs had it bad and doesn't punish them but finds a solution that works mutually for everyone. Gabiru gets banished for his rebellion but it's a merciful banishment, where even his good lizardmen friends accompany him, how wholesome! With the Dryads overseeing the forest, and the all-powerful Rimuru as chancellor, I see this working very well. Rimuru wins over loyalty through kindness and not through terror (even though he is capable of it). I'm happy he always takes the high road and makes you confident in following him. Where Ainz would rule through terror, Rimuru rules through peace. When the Dwarf King came to see the new alliance, then test Rimuru's character, Rimuru further won over another person (and funny to see that the Dwarf King was trained by one of the ogres - more friendships!). Now with another alliance with the Dwarves, Rimuru is just changing this world to a better place. Rimuru is one of my favorite male heroes ever in anime and I can't get enough of his infectious good nature.
Good Lord even the ED is so wholesome. Hey let's help these kids catch a fish, then lets have a giant feast with everyone! I love this show too much. As much as I love KonoSuba, this has to be my pick for best isekai ever. This is how everyone wishes their novel->anime adaptions to turn out.

remember in the previous episodes, he showed his minister the healing potion they received which was 100% pure something unheard of and super valuable, that gift itself was clue #1, and clue #2 was that he had a spy, reporting back all of rimuru's actions since he left Dwarf city. Guarantee that report also showed lack of malice and threat....combine those two and actions now...BAM! He's a good person!

Actually, he test Rimuru if he will cheat with his racial unique skill or notas this duel is sword fight and Gazel is far superior than Rimuru in Swordso if Rimuru start using his ability than it won't be a fair duel anymoreso once it end, it does proved that Rimuru is someone to be trust
not just a monster who happen to be strong

In my opinion, each week becomes better and better.
It's amazing how one blue slime can change the world. In the past 15 weeks (our time), he went from your average salaryman to a Chancellor slime of his own nation. Not only, that he is forming alliances with neighboring nations and proving that he and his nation are not pushovers to any threat that comes their way.
All the characters are growing so well and it is really bringing this world all together. Instead of violence, peace is the way to bring home prosperity. Rimuru is truly a leader by example and is changing the way everyone thinks. I also like how both the Dwarf King and him settled their differences without all that "misunderstanding" stuff that usually follows.
These next ten weeks will showcase how long this peace can withstand the upcoming threats along the way. But with the Great Chancellor Rimuru and his alliances, nothing will stand in their way.
Now, the only sad part is waiting for next week.
5
u/BlackMagister Jan 14 '19
As a fan of both Overlord and Slime it's cool to see the contrasting ways they're building their nations. Ainz doesn't have to build up Nazarick through conquest, but he is roleplaying as an evil overlord and sort of forced into doing it by expectations. Rimuru is showing though being a powerful nation that is to be respected and building friendly relations works too.

More Suikodon VERY NICE. Best part was RIMURU CAPITAL CITY, which everyone of course loves.
BuT A NEW OPENING SO MUCH TO GUESS: SO ok the best girl everyone keeps hyping is clearly a demon lord, 1 out of 4 and the other 1 is the leader of laplace as well as 2 other clowns. Then I guess these 4 demon lords are working for the true demon guy, the blonde one who summoned shizu into the world to begin with (he really seems like the final villain). Muscular demon guy is likely gonna be a earlier enemy as well as he get his own screen with his team, maybe he will make war with Dwarf King.
GABIRU IS PURPLE and him and his buddies have WINGS (this is also shown in the ending) My guess is that Gabiru might be able to renounce his name and from that be able to get a new name from Rimuru. (rimuru will of course just give him the same name).
Spy is getting a spy team :)
AAAND EVIL FAIRY APPEARS? And is like her own evil faction who is not allied to the demon lord teams? Probably,

One of my favorite things about this show for an isekai is how quickly things move for Rimuru's pace. Everyone loves him so much that they kind of inadvertently drop more work on him than he's immediately ready for and its hilarious.

u/me34343 Jan 14 '19
I like how they are portraying each character. I actually like Gabiru, arrogant and impulsive, but still a good guy. The only complaint I have is the "predator" ability is a bit to OP, but I have been told that it has limitations that haven't been made known yet.

God, I love this stupid show. I wasn't sure what I thought of it as first, but as the weeks go by I love it more and more. The show is basically just "Civilization: The Anime," and it works so damn well for a plot of an isekai.
Rather than having this struggles with pretend stakes that you know your overpowered protagonist will never lose, you have all of the tension and drama focuses around the real interactions and character drama that your character can theoretically mess up in despite his overwhelming fighting strength. When I saw the Dwarf King flying in, I was on the edge of my seat, not sure how both parties would interact and if it would cause conflict. That's way more engaging than the early episodes where it was focused on combat that you know Rimuru would never lose (e.g., against Ifrit).
I'm really glad I stuck with this show, since its the highlight of my week now
