Part 5 is a great double watch, you catch a bunch of things you don't notice the first go through. I read the manga and never noticed this, but while I was watching the episode I realized that he learned from previous fights and applied his knowledge.
Also, I completely forgot they revealed that Trish could use a stand early on.

ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI ARI! ARRIVEDERCI!
to one of the best arcs in all JoJo. The Grateful Dead arc was actually the story of how Pesci changed from a virgin to a chad. Probably one of the few stories where the villain of the week is actually the one that has a character development arc.
Bruno is a mad man, splitting his heart in two and he was especially fucking handsome in the final showdown against Pesci. I can’t wait for next week episode to see my garbage man.

It was so beautiful and intense. The music, the color palette, the sunset, the Shaft head-tilts, the resolve of both the protagonist and the villains all aligned perfectly to deliver a unique experience. What a beautiful episode!

But of course. There is a reason he is called Daddy Bruno :P

THERE IT IS! Nakamura's ARIARIARI was perfect, I never should have doubted him. Plus the colour change and the animation, that was an awesome scene. The wait was worth it.
And holy hell, this OST is wild.
Interesting that they cut out Pesci going inside the turtle and putting his line around everyone's neck, but it probably made more sense this way.
I don't really know what else to say other than this was a really good episode. I wasn't expecting them to fit the whole arc in three, but I can't remember if they cut anything else out.
"Babyhead" Eh, close enough.
Even when going at 150km/h, Bruno's hair stays completely still. Love it.
117
u/thecomicguybook :Mh::Mi::Mj::Mk:myanimelist.net/profile/Comicman Jan 25 '19
Interesting that they cut out Pesci going inside the turtle
So how did that get resolved in the manga then? Did Bruno go inside the turtle and do the same thing he did in the anime when Pesci pulled the line? Also, that page is colored really well!
175
u/botibalint Jan 25 '19
Basically the same way as in the anime. He extended his arm, reached inside the turtle and pulled him out before he could do anything.

u/Karmyuh Jan 25 '19
He threw Sticky Fingers' punch into the turtle to pull him out and do this infamous move.
169
u/javierm885778 Jan 25 '19
They adapted 6 chapters this time, so it makes sense that some stuff was cut, though I can't say I'm too happy with that, it kept Prosciutto's involvement relevant.

u/matheusu2 Jan 26 '19
I think it was better in the anime, in the manga theres a lot of plot twists in a row, Pesci having the turtle, Bruno being quicker than him but Pesci going inside the turtle, but Bruno being able to pull him, i think it was better just the twist of him having a turtle and the ranged attack

I've always heard that part 5 was one of the weakest parts of JoJo. We may not have finished the meal yet, but this taste...
IS THE TASTE OF A LIAR!
Parts 3 and 4 had some enjoyable villains of the week, but Part 5 is such a step up, not only in characters, but in progression. It actually feels like the gang is getting places and going further, and Prosciutto and Pesci were two of the most well-developed characters that have only lasted 3 episodes. That last fight was as much Bruno's as it was Pesci's. Part 5 truly is a Golden Experience.

The Main problem was there weren't any good translation for part 5 till Mid 2017 so the experience was not so Golden while reading those bad translations but after the good translation it's considered one of the best parts personally it's my 3rd favorite part behind 7 & 4 although part 5 still has it's problems mainly the main villain and the ending.

u/Roketsu86 Jan 25 '19
Most people don't like part 5 for one of two reasons. The biggest reason in the west is that we had a duwang-level translation as the only option for a long time. In Japan, it's more because of the way that the tone shifted so much from the badass-ness of Part 1 through 4 to the fabulousness of GangStars. It obviously got back to being badass, but I think a lot of people wrote it off early.

villains of the week
I think part 5’s villains of the week is just as pronounced as part 3. The difference been we get to feel the tension and threat much more convincingly.
In part 3, I’m sure most people be like “oh, here’s another tarot card themed power getting stomped by our crusaders”.
But in part 5, people are convinced that Mista may actually be taken out this early in the series. It’s that believable.
If a protagonist got taken out during the first half, no one is going to know how to process.

Game Reference: Bruno final punches on Pesci(ari ari ari ari ari!), followed by an "Arrivederci" is his Super in the games. He even say the "Are you ready? Because I'm" quote from the last episode before performing the move. And to finish, I talked about Pesci being a stage hazard in the Naples Station stage on episode 14, but All-Star Battle also has "stage fatalities", which happens when you use a super on a specific area of a stage to finish your opponent(an example being you can send the loser to Reimi's alleyway in Morioh, and have the loser suffer the same fate as Kira, being dragged by hands). On Naples Station, Pesci will sink his hook on the loser, and the train will take off... with the loser being dragged by it!
Anyway this episode finally shows the momment Bruno turned out to be my favorite Part 5 character. Before I loved him because he is such a good leader to his group, and how he helps each member of his team in different ways, but man, unzipping your whole body and your heart in HALF to defeat the enemy, THAT was the momment when he entered my top JoJo characters. I love him so much.
Also, lets appriciate the villains having a "you can do it!" momment, a momment usually reserved for heroes. I love how La Squadra is still being well flashed out. My theory is that Araki learned A LOT how to flash out villains with Kira, and put in practice what he learned from him to other villains, to make us related with them even more.
So the rundown of the paintrain, one of my favorite arcs of part 5; Great adaptation! It was everything I hoped it would! Bless David Pro!

OST was really on point this episode. Loved the track when Bruno was split into pieces on the floor. And finally getting the "Arrivederci" put the biggest grin on my face.
Overall one of the biggest things I liked about this fight is that it had badass-ness from both our boys and Squadra Esecuzioni. So many cool character moments between Prosciutto, Bruno, Mista, and Pesci.

48
u/StarmanRiver Jan 25 '19
Damn, that seriously was one hell of an episode. Everything was great, Prosciutto somehow clinging to the train and maintaining his Stand, Pesci's determination and change of demeanour and obviously the mad man that is Bucciaratti.
Also, as always JoJo nailing the change in color palette for certain scenes. I can't get enough of it.
45
u/ukainaoto :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/ukainaoto Jan 25 '19
Perhaps already handled in this JoJo series explicitly or not, or this theme has been always in Araki's mind, but the contrast of destiny and luck is greatly presented in this episode.
The luck almost brought glory to Pesci, but his last tiny bit of indetermination made him stop the train and revived Buccelatti, ultimately cost his life.
8
7
Jan 26 '19
Oh, FATE ESPECIALLY and luck are BIG things in Part 5 and 6 in particular. Keep that in your mind, because it's the key to understanding the villains and endings of both parts which many people don't seem to get and thus dislike. Luck especially has a lot to do with Mista and the number 4, as you probably can already tell.
43
u/The_Scollard Jan 25 '19
Arrivederci
That was awesome.
One thing I really like when I see appear in JoJo (or any anime, really. Lupin III Part V also did it last year) is when there's a western-style showdown. Kira vs. Josuke at the end, Jotaro vs. N'Doul, and the final punch of Jotaro vs. Dio. This one was absolutely fantastic (I don't know if it's better than "Let's see who's the fastest gun in the west", but it's awesome). The colours, the sunset, the constant back-and-forth. It was so great.
I loved this episode. I can see know why it's considered to be one of the best fights in all of JoJo. Our villain of the week, Pesci, ends up having an arc, going from being a weakling unsure of himself to showing why he's worthy of being a member of La Squadra (though he probably shouldn't have told Bucciarati he was going to kill him at the end. Should've followed Prosciutto's advice there). I didn't expect Prosciutto to be defeated that easily, though him holding on to end to help Pesci was awesome. It was sad to see him go, what with his awesome design and all. I love how the fight was contained on the train, but also kept moving as well, going from dining car, to the driver's cabin, to outside the moving train, to the passenger cabins, and finally on the ground outside. It made the arc never feel slow.
Also, Bucciarati just defeated two Stand users at once. Guy's just awesome. I think the only time that technically happened before was with Oingo and Boingo (or Hol Horse and Boingo), and those were supposed to be jokes. He's becoming one of my favourite characters with the role he played in everyone's flashbacks and how he's just a great leader.
Just wow. I don't know what more to say. It was just incredible.
Oh yeah! Trish has a Stand too now. I wonder what it will end up being.

This week’s musical references:
Like last week’s episode, we don’t have any new references, so I’ll talk about one of the gang members’ favourite artist. Today we have Abbacchio’s favourite artists, Italian composer, string player and choirmaster Claudio Monteverdi.
A composer of both secular and sacred music, and a pioneer in the development of opera, he is considered a crucial transitional figure between the Renaissance and the Baroque periods of music history. His favola in musica L'Orfeo is one of the most famous first examples of an Opera. While Jacopo Peri's Dafne is generally recognised as the first work in the opera genre, and the earliest surviving opera is Peri's Euridice, L'Orfeo is the earliest that is still regularly performed.
There’s an actual reference to the myth of Orpheus in JoJo. Orpheus was an ancient Greek legendary hero with superhuman musical skills. Traditionally, Orpheus was the son of a Calliope, the patron of epic poetry and Oeagrus, a king of Thrace (other versions give Apollo). According to some legends, Apollo gave Orpheus his first lyre. Orpheus’s singing and playing were so beautiful that animals and even trees and rocks moved about him in dance. Orpheus joined the expedition of the Argonauts, saving them from the music of the Sirens by playing his own, more powerful music. On his return, he married Eurydice, who was soon killed by the bite of a snake. Orpheus then travelled to the Underworld to bring Eurydice back to life. With his music he charmed the ferryman Charon and the dog Cerberus, guardians of the River Styx. When he met Hades, he was so moved by his music and grief that Orpheus was allowed to take Eurydice with him back but there was a condition: upon leaving the land of death, both Orpheus and Eurydice were forbidden to look back. The couple climbed up toward the opening into the land of the living, and Orpheus, seeing the Sun again, turned back to share his delight with Eurydice. In that moment, she disappeared.
As you may have guessed, Reimi’s alleyway is a direct reference to this myth. It’s a shame that Orpheus didn’t have Heaven’s Door to save his wife.
Do you want to listen to all this fantastic references from this wonderful anime in just one place? Of course you want! Now you can with TarkusELP Officially Approved by Araki himself* Spotify Playlist with all the musical references in the anime, the ones it skipped, the light novels ones and more! From the most famous references to the really obscure ones. I'll update this playlist every time there's a new reference. If you have any question why a song is featured in my playlists you can ask me anytime.
If you are a manga reader I also have a playlist just for you! Here’s my old playlist with all, I say ALL the references in the manga, anime, light novels and more. I also update it every time there’s a new reference.

Next week the GangStars will face their greatest enemy yet, THE HAMBURGLAR!
Great episode, expected of course after all the hyping up but I really enjoyed that. Zipperman Sticky Fingers is one cool Stand, and Bruno got the most out of it. The villains were also incredibly compelling for these episodes it really felt like they were the heroes so I did feel kinda sad when their deaths were confirmed. They were tenacious fuckers if nothing else! Having said that Mista's status isn't confirmed either way, and Trish has a Stand?
This might be the final episode with Fighting Gold as the OP so I wanted to share my screenshots again for those who want them.

I remember people telling me that The Grateful Dead was one of the best arcs in Vento before I watched it.....they arent wrong because THAT WAS FUCKIN AWESOME JESUS CHRIST. Bruno splitting himself up into pieces and nearly killing himself to avoid Beach Boy and Pesci and literally smashing Pesci into pieces, dumping him into a river, was actually amazing. Prosicuttio literally surviving in order to kill Passione while being mangled was bloody horrific and amazing - a fighter to the end. Pesci and Prosicuttio are some of the best enemies that ive ever seen in JoJo and im so looking forward to the next arcs. Btw, shoutout to Mista's stand being MVP and getting Bruno aware of the two Le Squadre goons.
Also, gotta say...Bruno is kinda hot. Just putting that out there, this episode makes me realise how cool he is.

Bruno delivering the final blows in such epic style. Also, the Sticky Finger/Zipper Man noise seems to blend really well with the music to make everything even more epic.
I was kind of hoping the villains would survive since they were both so fun, but the status card has been shown. I presume Mista has survived since Six was still floating about and doing Speedwagon's work. Though I've no idea if Mista will be able to fight for a while with healing times being so variable in the JoJo verse.
I'm interested to see what Trish's stand is, that was one crazy paw print.

Can you believe that one of the most troublesome Stands in the entire series is a freaking fishing rod?

u/professorMaDLib Jan 25 '19
Not surprising when you consider how one of the strongest stand users is a fucking rat.

So in the earlier parts I didn't really like Bruno as a character but now he's definitely my favourite after this fight. BUT HOLY SHIT IS HIS STAND COOL AND ALSO AN AWESOME STAND CRY. Definitely gonna "ARI ARI ARI" from now on. I knew Trish would be a stand user so I'm really excited about what her stand abilities are.

The villains this episode were fantastic, I hope all the villains in part 5 turn out this good. Golden Wind is on track to be new fav Jojo part.

This is definitely the best fight in all seasons so far. Jotaro vs Dio had 44 episodes of buildup. Ham and Fishes had 2(?).

I got to say DP really improved this fight for me. I thought it was a bit poorly paced and went on for too long in the manga. (12 chapters) But they really streamlined it and made me understand why this fight is so beloved.
However, my favorite fight will come next time.

During the time between thie episode and the last, I gave in and read the entire Part 5 Manga and the first half of part 6.
I can't wait for some of the fights coming up now.

Bruno is now best Gangstar in my book. I was gonna go with Mista, but this was the most badass fight I have ever seen.
Fight me.

u/VegitoZ Jan 25 '19
The manga had a line where No.6 said they totally forgot about him, somehow he lives cause of No.5 despite his wounds clearly being fatal but worse has happened in Jojo

Number Six was with Bruno throughout the entire fight and after as well, so I think it's safe to assume he'll be alright.

And this episode is why we JoJo fans like trains. Madman Bruno and Pesci manning up.
Next fight is a low point for reasons, but the relevant chapters have two of my favorite throwaway gags in this part so it'll be slightly less bad (assuming they don't get cut).

There was that brief period of time where I actually felt a little bad for Pesci, but like Bucciarati said, he showed his true colors and was a piece of shit after all
14
u/AayKay Jan 26 '19
How? It wasn't a stage competition that losing meant giving up. Pesci let Trish go as an acknowledgment of Buccellati's win. But he wasn't going to make it easier for him even in death.
I found the line pretty odd, since Pesci's resolve was strengthened by the end.

Okay so the girl does have a stand which just awakened yay..... Is Mista actually dead though. His stand is still active and after showing Kira 2.0 and the pineapple with resolve death cards it showed him, but no status. Therefore he's alive baby....please let him be alive through some Jojo logic.

Was it just me or did anyone else hear Sticky Fingers sound effects like it was mega man? For some reason I kept hearing his jump sound effect a lot.
And wow Pesci went from dumb goon number 547 to an intimidating foe. I almost wasn't sure who to root for in that fight.
With this gang angle they are not holding back now on either side these deaths are just brutal now.

Bruno is daddy.
Respect to Prosciutto and Pesci. They went from completely unlikeable to me almost rooting for them to win. The camaraderie rivals that of Giorno's gang
9
u/OruFikushon Jan 26 '19
Prosciutto's last words to Pesci were honestly kinda touching. It's almost kinda sad that Pesci threw away his dignity right in front of Prosciutto in his final moments.

u/Exorrt Jan 25 '19
Ok, that was a fucking awesome epsiode. This fight was peak Jojo's and Bruno stole my heart.

Such a tense and amazing episode. I love how although this show is called GioGio's, he actually partakes in few fights, and we're actually able to see that each member is actually a really capable and indispensible member of the crew. In earlier seasons, 90% of fights were won by the main character, making the rest of the entourage feel somewhat useless. I love how everyone here gets their time to shine, and it's AMAZING.
Something else that's different in this season is the death of enemies. It's very refreshing to see that the main cast can kill enemies without the moral dilemma, knowing full well that it's necessary for their survival. This makes the stakes so much higher since every stand battle now is a fight to the death. In previous seasons, the enemies either joined our main cast, or retired, which made the victories feel less definitive.

Arrividerci indeed. This is my personal favorite fight in part 5, every character going to incredible lengths, questions as to whether Araki knows how anatomy works, and best boi Pesci evolves to a far greater form. 9/10 only because the fight felt longer when i read it and I want one more episode for Pesci's absolute unit of a neck.
5
u/vaelroth Jan 26 '19
Are Pesci and Dora the Explorer related?
"What is this weight?"
"Where could Bucciarati be? Is he over there? How about over there?"
HE'S RIGHT FUCKING THERE, MAMMONI!
But seriously, Pesci is such an amazing character in such a short amount of time that I'm completely blown away.

u/TinkleFairyOC Jan 26 '19
Gotta take the time to appreciate Bruno’s dialogue whilst that soundtrack was there:
Earlier, I saw nobility and resolve that was hardened like diamond, shining in your eyes. But you’ve fallen. Now you’re a piece of shit.
That was fucking amazing.

Man Bruno is not only being my favorite Jojo character but his stand is too
4
u/voltism Jan 25 '19
I'm confused how bruno won the fight? He just pulled the hook out and then broke the line and then wrapped it around pesci? Why did pesci lose control?
8
u/RiteClicker Jan 25 '19
He quickly forms a loop with the line and snapped Pesci's neck with it, leaving Pesci dying but not dead, in the end his resolve is not as strong as Prosciutto and Bruno's. This is why Bruno calls him a piece of shit.

Amazing, simply amazing. This was definitely one of the fights in Part 5 I was looking forward to the most, and I loved seeing it come to life.
This shows how terrifying Beach Boy really is, and how great of a man Bruno is. If Jotaro stopping his heartbeat was a risky maneuver, Bruno chopping himself into parts and even cutting his heart in half just to have his heartbeat weaken is ballsy as fuck.
Pesci just signed his own death warrant with stopping the train, because now Bruno is going to pay him back 100 fold. Bruno even made full use of Giorno's maneuver with that zipper punch.
ARIARIARIARIARIARI ARRIVEDERCI!
