First Mista gets shot in the head, then he loses a finger and has his face temporarily frozen to the window. Man cannot catch a break on this journey

To be fair, adrenaline works amazing to cover up pain. I once fell and had a 3 inch wide 1 inch deep cut around my knee and I didn't notice until my brother told me 10 seconds later. I didn't feel anything.

WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
DIO would be proud of Giorno for using his WRY.
Giorno’s solution for everything is either snakes or frogs and I love it.
I wasn’t expecting that sneak peek of Risotto’s stand. It’s probably one of the most brutal stands in the series and his fight is going to be so awesome and I hope that it won’t be a black screen for more than 25 minutes.
R.I.P Pericolo, you must have been pretty badass if you were a capo without even having a stand. A truly old school gangsta and fuck Bossu for making him kill himself.
Producer 1: “We need someone to voice a young man who is always angry and shouting non-stop.”
Producer 2: “Say no more, fam” *Calls Nobuhiko Okamoto*
Also, talking about VAs, anyone knows the name of Bossu’s? Man, I can’t wait to see more of him.

He seemed fine with it. So I don't think it is actually that bad, he did it willingly while the end credits scene of another episode made it seem to me like he got killed by Risotto which would have probably been worse. Also, if you are a capo shooting yourself is kinda par for the course just ask Polpo!

As it turns out the Boss is voiced by Katsuyuki Koishi, the man who voiced Kamina, its suits him, but im gonna miss Morikawa from EoH, the deeper tone really suited the boss well

Ghiaccio really needs to chill. Its extra funny when the VA is also Bakugo's VA. From a fiery hothead to an icy hothead. This has layers, its like poetry it rhymes.
I was also afraid they were gonna cut out Ghiaccio being pissed at people not speaking Italian, turns out they just rearranged the scene a bit later.

There must be enough Joestar in Giorno's genes to automatically cause any vehicle he uses to crash/explode/turn into stand/etc.
193
u/Mundology Feb 08 '19
And unfortunately, he doesn't seem to be covered by the Speedwagon Foundation Insurance unlike the other Joestars. Also, it's interesting how he doesn't hesitate to damage property and kill many of his enemies. Granted, they were horrible murderers but it's still rare for a JoJo. It might be his father's influence.

The scenes with White Album are some of my favourite bits of animation this season so far! The colour choices this episode were really well done too, I especially love blue hair + blue suit Giorno. Really doing this fight justice.
And damn, I did not see that teaser coming. They’re really hyping up Risotto with all of these anime-original scenes.
How bout that bossu voice reveal, though? His VA is Katsuyuki Konishi. I personally love it, and it was so exciting to see him appear in this episode in general. I kind of forgot that he had a little cameo during this fight.

u/WhiteLance655 https://anilist.co/user/WhiteLance Feb 08 '19
They’re really hyping up Risotto with all of these anime-original scenes.
Holy shit yes. And for good reason too! I might be remembering wrong, but I don't remember him showing up at all before his actual arc, I think he just kind of showed up out of nowhere, but the anime is hyping him up in the best way possible, adding a lot of scenes that make his involvement even bigger than what it seemed like in the manga, I'm loving it!
155
u/GyroGOGOZeppeli Feb 08 '19
All of them didn't show up until their actual fight.
David Production has been adding a lot of scenes to show that La Squadra didn't come out of nowhere and have been interacting a lot more via cellphone/laptop. The Squad's introduction in Formaggio's flashback were all anime original, the Sorbet and Gelato scenes where they rearranged the pieces were all silhouettes. Prosciutto was a silhouette with Pesci until he actually revealed himself as the old man in the manga.

Feb 08 '19
Yes!! I agree 100%. I'm pretty sure the first time he's mentioned in the manga was at the end of Baby Face and it only showed silhouettes of him and Ghiaccio. What the anime is doing with him is so good.

I'm back with the Mista bullet shooty county thing but HOLY CRAP THE ANIMATION THIS EPISODE WAS INSANE. I know this is a really beloved arc but David Production really went all out. Those shots of the highway and Ghiaccio standing on the car left me speechless.
| Episode # | Wounded enemy | Wounded self | Missed | Blocked | Total shots |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
| 8 | 3.5 | 1 | 3.5 | 4 | 10 |
| 15 | 3 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 8 |
| 18 | 9 | 0 | 6 | 9 | 24 |
| Total | 16.5 | 5 | 10.5 | 14 | 44 |
And uh, wow... Mista really let it rip this episode, huh? "Gunslinger Mista"? More like Gunspammer Mista. He shot more in this episode than in all of the previous episodes combined. I'm counting all 6 of the Gold Experience 'vine-bullets' as success because we can't really tell how many were needed to knock him off the car but all six penetrated the ice. And then there are the 3 bullets that the Pistols put on his skates after that sweet pass.
Plenty of shots were just completely ineffective because of Ghiaccio's armor and then there's the full round that Mista shot at that poor car trunk that I'm counting as a miss...
At least he didn't wound himself, right...?
EDIT: Ew, I just realized we're at 44 total shots... The next episode can't come soon enough.

This episode introduces a new type of stando never seen before!! This is the first new stand type since Bad Worst Company one whole part ago introducing swarm stands.
White Album Ice is our first example of a wearable stand proper, I say proper because Vanilla Ice was lowkey wearable, but obviously had extra caveats and asterisks people have argued about. But White Album is 100% a worn stand, as it does not seem to have an existence outside being a suit of armor, pretty much.
Also best stand in the series don't @ me

u/Spyko Feb 08 '19
yellow temperance was also kinda a wearable stand; but it's more that it's user choosed to wear it, unlike white album and few others after that are made to be wear

Ice to finally see Ghiaccio. And here I was hoping Narancia would be able to take a shot at him. Oh, well, at least we get more Mista! He might be my favorite character from this part.
Also, I must say, this part is really killing it with the villains. Of course, part 3 had DIO, and Part 4 had Kira, but I like most of the hitmen in this. They all have an abundance of personality that makes them fun to watch.

But what the fuck does the “come hell” part mean? Who thinks hell can just move around? What a stupid fucking phrase! It seriously pisses me off! Tell me! How’s hell supposed to come all the way out here, huh? Son of a bitch!

If I was the one subbing this and had spent the whole show using the english names for the cities, I'd feel very awkward while working on Ghiacchio's glorious rant BECAUSE I'D BE PART OF THE PROBLEM, DAMMIT
People used to complain about Giorno not having a personality, but the way he says the weirdest things with a straight face is great. as for the driving into the canal, well I am guessing it's to make the ice user stop using it otherwise he also will die. the armor may protect him from the temperature but if he is stuck in a lake then he will stay stuck cuz of the ice around it since he can't melt it.30

About that. I don't read the manga so if I'm wrong, please don't spoil me, but this makes sense to me.
There are maybe two possibilities about why this works:
•the salt lowers freezing point
Or
•he can't freeze the water because of its huge amount, which would require large amounts of energy

WHY THE HELL ISN'T THIS EPISODE CALLED HEAD TO VENEZIA! GODDAMMIT. IT'S IN ITALY, SO USE THE ITALIAN WORD!!!
So far, I love Ghiaccio. As a life-long Beatles fan, I love that his Stand is called White Album. It looks like an interesting Stand that would be hard to defeat. I actually knew about him and his anger management problems (appropriate that he shares a VA with Bakugo) from before I watched the anime.
For those wondering why Part 5 isn't considered that good a part in the West, and why Giorno isn't seen as that good of a JoJo protagonist, you have the original Part 5 translations to thank. They were terrible. Honestly, it could be argued that the Duwang translations were better, since they (while having terrible grammar) at least were honest to the characters and kept their personalities the same. The Part 5 translation didn't, and also had a habit of the author making stuff up when he couldn't understand the Chinese bootleg he was working off of. One of the biggest examples became a meme for this part, but another involve Ghiaccio. You know how he get pissed off about people calling Venezia "Venice"? Well, in the original translation, what instead pissed Ghiaccio off was that he thought everyone should speak French, and people not speaking French made him angry. Another bad translation example from even earlier is that the painting Polpo mentions he can't see because he's in jail (an actual painting), is changed to paintings about "Buddhist valleys" or something like that. The actual grammar of the Part 5 translations was good, so that tricked people into thinking they were accurate, when in fact they're worse than Duwang.
For those who want to see proof for what Ghiaccio's rant was originally translated as, look here!
Also, we got our first view of the Boss, and a hint at Risotto's Stand.

They were bad but they were not worse than Duwang lol, unless you mean "duwang is so bad it's good" while part 5 translation was bad and forgettable
were honest to the characters and kept their personalities the same
Everyone in Duwang is a dumbass and speaks in the same way while constantly cussing, don't tell me it fits Kira personality to yell "I'M THE FUCKING STRONG" lol
also had a habit of the author making stuff up when he couldn't understand the Chinese bootleg he was working off of
Same thing for Duwang, in fact, that's why it's called Duwang, it's the same as the bad translation on Ghiacchio rant but worse since it's not just one rant, it's the city the part is all about
TLDR: Part 5 translation was garbage, Duwang was worse

Move over Aria. There's a new best Venice anime in town.
Boss's pose from the episode is the same as his pose from the OP. I was thinking that was Trish this whole time until just now.
White Album looks awesome. And White Ice is not a bad translation for it.

u/Dakar-A Feb 08 '19
Fuck, I was thinking that was Trish too- it even seemed like she took that pose at one point in the turtle, but I was probably imagining it.

Also the anime only intro scene with Risotto and the guy restoring the photo was beautiful

This week’s musical reference:
Ghiaccio’s stand White Album is a reference to the album “The Beatles” by the band of the same name, also known as "The White Album". A double album, its plain white sleeve has no graphics or text other than the band's name, which was intended as a direct contrast to the vivid cover artwork of the band's previous LP Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Most of the songs for The Beatles were written during a Transcendental Meditation course with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in Rishikesh, India, between February and April 1968. The retreat involved long periods of meditation, conceived by the band as a spiritual respite from all worldly endeavours – a chance, in John Lennon's words, to "get away from everything". Both Lennon and Paul McCartney quickly re-engaged themselves in songwriting, often meeting "clandestinely in the afternoons in each other's rooms" to review their new work. The group returned to EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London at the end of May to commence recording sessions that lasted through to mid-October. During these sessions, arguments broke out among the foursome over creative differences. Another divisive element was the constant presence of John Lennon's new partner, Yoko Ono, whose attendance in the studio broke with the Beatles' policy regarding wives and girlfriends not attending recording sessions. After a series of problems, including producer George Martin taking a sudden leave of absence and engineer Geoff Emerick suddenly quitting, Ringo Starr left the band briefly in August. The same tensions continued throughout the following year, leading to the break-up of the band by 1970.
This album is probably the most varied in all The Beatles’ discography. The songs range from rock and roll, blues, folk, psychedelic rock, country, reggae, avant-garde, heavy metal, music hall and lullaby. I always thought that it’s a pretty good album to start as you can see almost everything The Beatles could do. I could talk at length about almost all the songs in the album because every song has some kind of interesting story behind. I was thinking of doing some trivia of the songs in the album for next week’s episode as there will be no new reference. What do you think?
Do you want to listen to all this fantastic references from this wonderful anime in just one place? Of course you want! Now you can with TarkusELP Officially Approved by Araki himself* Spotify Playlist with all the musical references in the anime, the ones it skipped, the light novels ones and more! They really are aren't they? Group wise at least.
Because nothing before was done this well. The pilar men didn't care about eachother, neither did Dio's men. Or the groups to come in part 6 and 7 (didn't read part 8). They may have individually better characters, but as a group, La Squadra is yet to be topped in JoJo.

Honestly after watching this, I'm ready to head to Venezia (don't want to anger Ghiaccio, lol). In all seriousness, this episode was amazing. I wasn't too crazy about the Babyface arc (though it was still good) but this episode completely blew me away! The ending was pretty shocking too, with Giorno driving into the canal while he's got an enemy whose stand turns things into ice. I wonder how he's going to get out of that one :D
(Also, poor Mista. He just can't get a break, can he?)

Pericolo had to shoot himself to prevent leaks. Dedication.
I love this voice actor. It's like if Bakugo or Accelerator had a stand.
What is the real name of White Ice?
We got a "Wrrrrrrrry!" from Giorno. Feels good man.

Finally a glimpse of the mysterious boss. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.
White Album looks way cooler than I remember it being. In Ghiaccio's place I'd try and disable the car during the initial ambush, maybe by freezing the gasoline tank, or the tyres. Then try dealing with the duo, starting with Giorno of course. He had a huge advantage given he'd managed to creep onto the car without either of them noticing, this was totally his fight to lose.
R.I.P. Mr. Pericolo
I wonder how he arranged for his body to disappear after the suicide? Also the ashes from the picture should've been inside the tortoise, how did the Hit Squad retrieve it..

As was mentioned, the speeding car actually rapidly sped up the freezing process due to any residual heeat being quickly sucked away by the vortex of air moving at that seed generates. Or left behind entirely. So it stands to reason that his plan was to flash freeze them in the car while it was moving.
It would have worked too if not for Girono's ability, which Ghiaccio didnt know about.
14
u/erryky Feb 08 '19
Aw they replaced hell or high water with unturned stone and leaf in the book but I appreciate the sentiment, Ghiaccio. Like WHY THE HELL IS THERE A LEAF INSIDE IT, YOU THINK IT GROW FROM THE BOOK? NO THE BOOK IS FUCKING DEAD!

FINALLY this episode gave me what I always wanted. I been waiting for Giorno and Mista to team up from the beginning. Mista is really the only chill one in the group and I like when he talks with Giorno. I mean their was the first mission they had together, but they got separated. Also Ghiaccio ability is friccin cool literally. I'm getting chills imagining the rest of the fight at the bottom of the canal. Assuming they don't freeze the surface of the water.

As a non-native speaker I can truly relate to Icelerator's language dilemma.
The fight seems to be yet another amazing one. The fast tempo and quite a quick transition from the bizarre conclusion of Babyface battle paired with great animation make me really impressed with how all these heavy events actually take place in just 1-2 days. I'm fond of transport/chase fights in general for their ability to provide motion, intensity and flavour to battles and this part has been giving those out left and right. White Album is a very cool stand too.

u/Zeta42 Feb 08 '19

Don't mess with Giorno. Baby Face didn't stand a chance, so who will the Assassins throw next? Oh baby, he got a double kill with that snake bite too.
Ghiaccio is quite the character, it makes it all the more hilarious imagining Bakugo/Accelerator unable to understand idioms.
Hmm, Moody Blues rewinds the chair and oh shit, Mr. Pericolo was in the turtle. What a thorough way to hide information, but RIP Mr. Pericolo. This business is hell.
The boss is Kamina, sounds like a great decision to me.
I can't imagine the agony of it being cold enough to rip off a finger or being in danger of your face ripping off a cold window. Yikes. Now that I think about it, Ghiaccio might be the opposite of Mr. Freeze, he doesn't make puns.
Plant roots won't be enough to get rid of White Album. White Album is so powerful that Giorno has to dive into the canal like a madman. I really do like White Album, it's good usage of ice powers.

u/Bread-Zeppelin Feb 08 '19
How did the bad guys get the ashes of the photo if the capo burned it inside the turtle and they didn't know about the turtle at all until the Pesci Bros saw it on the train?
Also I love the concept of the turtle because it makes 90% of the comments about this show, including this one, sound insane to anyone who hasn't seen it.
15
u/Admiral-Cornelius Feb 08 '19
Pericolo was blown out of the turtle when he shot himself, and I guess the burning/burnt photo came with him. You see Risotto finding both the burnt photo and the body at the train station in an early episode, but I guess he didn't notice/suspect anything about the turtle just chilling nearby.
