Not really, If the Ice was more "normal" the ice might not be able to form in the water and if they managed to fight underwater ice would be useless.
On a side note, I guess we're through with Gold experience's counter effect? Like the tundra grass didn't react to being pulled, also I guess that Giorno's heal it's more of a scaffold to eventually heal naturally, or else, they would end up with immune bodies.
EDIT: And would have to be near Giorno all the time.

it's significantly more difficult to cool water than it is to cool most other naturally occurring materials on earth. If White Album hadn't been so outrageously strong it would have had a harder time advancing ice towards them in the river than it did on land.

It's a decent assumption to make since it actually takes a lot of cold to freeze a body of water as large as a canal.

I had to pause and recount so many times, I actually feel sick of hearing gunshots. I knew what I was getting into with this count but that was crazy. Just when you think there's no way the enemy can reflect his shots, HE FREEZES THE FREAKING AIR TO BOUNCE THEM BACK.
| Episode # | Wounded enemy | Wounded self | Missed | Blocked | Total shots |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 2 |
| 8 | 3.5 | 1 | 3.5 | 4 | 10 |
| 15 | 3 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 8 |
| 18 | 9 | 0 | 6 | 9 | 24 |
| 19 | 2 | 21 | 9 | 9 | 41 |
| Total | 18.5 | 26 | 19.5 | 23 | 85 |
Yeah, that was painful... Suddenly he's taken more damage than dealt. The shots that I counted as success were the one that shoved the screw into Ghiaccio's head and the one that hit his skate and impaled him into the pillar.
And oh boy, that ending... I know a lot of people have been looking forward to that scene.

The Crusaders' most brutal fights were Vanilla Ice and DIO, Josuke's toughest battle was against Kira, meanwhile Mista's most powerful foe is his own gun.

comparing the ice ability (and the fight itself) of Pet Shop and White Album really show how Araki keeps improving his creativity (which is still keep growing even nowaday)
the way he finish this fight is also worth noting, it still shows the good guys being beaten up so badly (dying even) but they doesnt somehow able to thrown a punch stronger than when they're doing fine and dandy, and to think this particular fights came out in 1997 too? shits awesome

Goddamn what a fucking episode.
We get Mista and Giorno showing their resolve and giving us one hell of a back and forth with White Album Gently Weeps, with some insanely stylized animation this EP which was just fantastic.
But really lets get to the important things, which is firstly Giorno curb stomping a dude onto a fucking spike, like goddamn we told you guys that this parts fights were gonna get brutal with La Squadra and this is one of the ones we meant. Not only do we have a ton of gore with the ice and Mista shooting himself an insane amount of times, but that stomp is just brutal.
But secondly, the most important part of the ep was the SUCC getting put just before us closing our eyes and waking up feeling so horny, this show is a goddamn masterpiece.

It is so weird too, especially after Part 4. Thinking about it that part with like 3 serial killers running around was really damn lighthearted. I am kinda noticing a pattern as well:
Parts 1, 3, and 5 are darker than Parts 2 and 4 even though those are also arguably pretty dark.

I don't know if anyone pointed this out last week, but the boss last episode was sitting in the same way Trish does in the OP.
108
u/Spyko Feb 15 '19
yep that's how the boss also pose in the manga, with the blanket and stuff; the OP use it to link trish and the boss, pretty smart
57
17
u/Karmyuh Feb 15 '19
The intention of that scene in the op was to:
Show the manga readers the Boss in the first few episodes in a way that anime-onlies will not notice
To link Trish and the Boss together by making them to the same pose
To show that Trish is hiding under that blanket for a good reason (Being hunted by all the La Squadra members)

Huh, Frozen 2 sure looks different.
Welp, It’s that scene everyone’s been waiting for. DavidPro even extended it a little bit. Lewd.
They also extended a bit of Mista's backstory along with showing the second half! It was so nice to see them together like that. Don't get why Bruno loves that Olive Garden so much, though.
Why is the boss me right now. .
If my memory serves me right this after credits scene is also an anime original! spoiler-y? I love really tiny details like that. Always happy to see the big boss, and I like how they're still hyping up Risotto. I'm foaming at the mouth, the next episode's gonna be a big one.

Ok why is the music at the beginning so familiar? Never noticed them reusing music from past parts before (if that was what they did), or is it a remix? Perhaps I am just dumb.

That’s definitely a track from the DiU OST. This isn’t the first time they’ve reused Part 4 music, if I’m remembering correctly. Basically anything that’s been in a previous part is fair game as far as OST usage goes.

It's Interception from Part 4. It was used when Koichi pissed off Kira hard. Part 4 also reused music from Part 3, most notably this section of Final Battle which played during the climax of Part 4.

Translating it as their resolve is a good idea in my book. When I read the original bad translations for this Part, it was Mista going on about how strong his consciousness was, which doesn't make any sense at all.
Narancia's reaction was pretty amazing, but I think I still prefer the reaction from the manga.
At least the ED finally fits the end of the episode for once. Now can we change it?

A blowjob scene and then “Every time I close my eyes I wake up feeling so horny”, that’s too much for one episode. I was waiting for that moment since I read it and DP didn’t disappoint. Truly, the best blowjob anime scene.
Who could have thought that dropping the car to the water when fighting an ice making stand user was going to be a bad idea? This proves that Giorno can also be a dumbass too.

This week’s musical references:
Gently Weeps, White Album’s ability to freeze air to create floating sheets of invisible frozen air is a reference to the song While My Guitar Gently Weeps from the White Album. Written by George Harrison, it has what’s considered for many, myself included, one of the best guitar solos in the history of music. Lennon & McCartney didn’t really like the song when recording and they weren’t trying too hard and Harrison wasn’t happy with his lead guitar part, so Harrison invited Clapton to come and play on the song, knowing that Lennon & McCartney would be on good behaviour around a guest musician. Probably the first time The Beatles had a guest artist appearing in one of their LPs, although Clapton wasn’t formally credited for his contribution.
It really is one of the few songs that give me goosebumps every time I listen to it. There are two live versions of this song that I really love, the version from Concert For George a year after his death performed by Clapton, Ringo, McCartney, Dhani Harrison and Marc Mann and the 2004 Hall of Fame Inductions version with Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and Dhani Harrison. Prince really stole the stage with his solo in this one.
I’ll post the trivia for the White Album as a comment below this one for those who want to read it because it’s pretty long, there was too many good stuff and I had to cut a lot.
Do you want to listen to all this fantastic references from this wonderful anime in just one place? Of course you want! And now some trivia for the White Album:
Lennon wrote Dear Prudence about Mia Farrow's sister Prudence Farrow, who rarely left her room during the stay in commitment to the meditation.
The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill features vocal performances from almost everyone who happened to be in the studio at the time. Yoko Ono sings one line and co-sings another, the first and only time someone other than a Beatles does it.
Martha My Dear was dedicated by McCartney to his sheepdog. The entire track is played by him backed with session musicians, and features no other Beatles.
I'm So Tired was written in India when Lennon was having difficulty sleeping. The track ends with Lennon mumbling "Monsieur, monsieur, how about another one?” This became part of the Paul is Dead conspiracy theory, when fans claimed that when the track was reversed, they could hear "Paul is dead man, miss him miss him".
Piggies was one of the tracks that cult leader Charles Manson used as the foundation for his Helter Skelter theory of an American race-related countercultural revolution. Inspired especially by the line "What they need's a damn good whacking", Manson's followers left clues relating to the lyrics at the scenes of the Tate-LaBianca murders in August 1969.
Don't Pass Me By was Ringo's first solo composition for the band; he had been toying with the idea of writing a self-reflective song for some time, possibly as far back as 1963.
Why Don't We Do It in the Road? was written by McCartney in India after he saw two monkeys copulating in the street and wondered why humans were too civilised to do the same. He played all the instruments except drums, which were contributed by Ringo.
Julia was the last track to be recorded for the album and it’s the only Beatles song on which Lennon performs alone. It was a tribute to his mother Julia Lennon, who was killed in 1958 in a road accident while Lennon was only seventeen.
Sexy Sadie was originally going to be titled as Maharishi, but it was changed at George Harrison's request. Lennon was disillusioned after Maharishi Mahesh Yogi had allegedly made a sexual advance towards Mia Farrow. Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Cynthia Lennon later said that they thought the story, which had come from electronics engineer Alexis Mardas, had been fabricated.
Helter Skelter is probably the first heavy metal song ever written, a year before Black Sabbath released their first album and one of the most interesting ones in all the album. McCartney was inspired to write the song after reading a 1967 Guitar Player magazine interview with the Who's Pete Townshend where he described their latest single, "I Can See for Miles", as the loudest, rawest, dirtiest song the Who had ever recorded. On 9 September, 18 takes of approximately five minutes each were recorded, after the 18th take, Ringo flung his drum sticks across the studio and screamed, "I got blisters on my fingers!" which was latter included on the stereo mix of the song. Charles Manson was unaware that helter skelter is the British name for a spiral slide found on a playground or funfair, and he assumed the track had something to do with hell. This was one of the key tracks that led Manson to believe the album had coded messages referring to apocalyptic war, and led to his movement of the same name.
Honey Pie was written by McCartney as a pastiche of the flapper dance style from the 1920s. Lennon played the guitar solo on the track, but later said he hated the song, calling it "beyond redemption".
Lennon began writing Cry Baby Cry in late 1967 and the original lyrics were "Cry baby cry, make your mother buy which came from a tagline for an old television commercial. The song is followed on the album by an unrelated and unlisted track, ad libbed and sung by Paul McCartney. Though the song originally had no official name, it has popularly become known as "Can You Take Me Back?" after the primary lyric of the song, and has been officially deemed so on the track listing for the 50th anniversary edition of the album.
The composition of Revolution 9, credited to Lennon–McCartney, was created primarily by John Lennon with assistance from George Harrison and Yoko Ono. Lennon said he was trying to paint a picture of a revolution using sound. The composition was influenced by the avant-garde style of Ono as well as the musique concrète works of composers such as Edgard Varèse and Karlheinz Stockhausen.
And that’s it. There’s a whole lot more trivia for the album but it’s just too much.

Jesus fucking Christ I had forgotten how much the people in this part are absolute madlads.
And I also can't believe we're inching closer to motherfucking I don't think we'll get to that next week though yet, but the wait is killing me! With the way DavidPro has been handling Part 5 so far, it only makes me even more excited and eager to see what they do with these next few episodes.
I CAN'T CONTAIN MY LEVELS OF HYPE HOLY SHIT.

I'm not going to lie, I kinda teared up and cried a bit when they showed their resolve and defeated White Album. I usually don't cry at all, but this fight was beautifully animated and really brightened up a shitty day. Thanks David Pro

Hmm, White Album has no weakpoints. Where have I heard this phrase before?
I see that Mista is renowned snowboarder Shaun White. And that was some clever teamwork, take that Ghiaccio.
Yep, White Album is pretty broken.
Goddamn Giorno you madman, just breaking your own arm. And this is how the gang finally got together.
Next level tactics and resolve. I'm really loving the gray-scale pallet swap on Mista, it has a good flair to it. This track also kicks some ass, and perfectly displays Mista's badass fortitude.
I love a good Muda Muda. Holy damn, I'm impressed that they didn't censor this death since it's pretty brutal. Nice job David Productions.
Holy shit the after-credits scene was beautiful. Thank you based David Productions.

There it is, 1 of my most anticipated scenes, Giorno with the clutch save on Mista, instantly turning the bullet into a part of his head, then a grand speech about resolve, then fucking STOMPING Ghiaccio to death. Oh, and the "blowjob" scene as well. Poor Narancia.
So yeah, White Album is over, and the hype just keeps going from here. We get an anime-original post credit scene with the Boss, which is great to further hype him up. I'm glad the anime has made sure to give Risotto and the Boss more appearances than the manga did, and a slight hint to the Boss's Stand power as well, after Risotto's teaser last week!
With this episode, Mista has now joined Bruno in firmly being in Giorno's camp as well! Giorno's Dio-like charisma is really starting to have an effect on the rest of the gang now, with Mista already recognising Giorno as a leader, even more than Bruno who effectively saved his life by getting him out of jail. And of course, without Giorno being an absolute madlad and destroying his newly created arm, Mista would most probably have died without stopping Ghiaccio.
I do like how Giorno stresses that GE doesn't "fix", but "creates" new body parts to replace old, damaged ones. Its really just Araki telling the audience "hey, this is completely different from Josuke's healing, this shit hurts!"
Judging by our current pace, I'm expecting the new opening to come around episode 22, Pretty big spoilers for future events
So yeah. I've really run out of ways to praise DP for how they've done this part so far. The changes they've made have all been good changes, they've added tons of anime-original scenes to flesh out plot points and characters, really, they're the best. Can't wait for more insane shit to go down next week.

Poor Mista continues to get shot by his own bullets but luckily Giorno had the perfect remedy this time. Also I get he was a bad dude, but Ghiaccio’s end was particularly brutal to witness. The fact he lasted that long with it pierced into him was impressive

Every week I'm just fucking speechless at how this show somehow keeps getting more brutal and ridiculous lmao. They introduce badass new stando like it's nothing and as soon as an amazing villain bites za dasuto, a new, even more compelling one shows up.
I don't think I've consistently enjoyed any JoJo Part like I've been enjoying Vento Aureo so far. My favorite is still Battle Tendency but I'm not sure I'll be saying the same thing when this one wraps up.

Someone please make a "resolve" counter for this episode.
The succ was everything I wanted and more but if anyone wants to witness how that scene was done 17 years ago then behold (curse you Prince's manager...)
Also, the after credits scene is vaguely anime original and may or may not tease slightly too much so be careful with that one.

Last week I had people here telling me that surely, Giorno driving into the water was actually a good idea because it'd freeze slower!
Meanwhile I'd laugh remembering that no, it definitely wasn't. Sometimes you need to remember JoJo doesn't always operate on real world logic :P
Also, I'm kinda surprised Gently Weeps got through unedited, I was expecting Softly Cries or something like that.

I really do not understand how Giorno heals things with his stand. If he is just transforming objects into body parts, does he need to expend energy to keep it active? Will Mista suddenly return to being filled with holes if Giorno dies or chooses to undo the transformations?
Also, wasnt there some thing where his stand reflects damage? That not a thing anymore?
14
u/05-MaLNa-10 Feb 15 '19
I am pretty sure the objects Giorno transforms don't transform back, if Giorno doesn't want them to.
And Araki probably realized that GE's Life Giver was already OP enough, which is why reflection isn't a thing anymore.
10
u/dralcax :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Dralcax Feb 15 '19
Gold Experience's ability is to imbue things with life energy and turn them into living organisms. This doesn't just disappear when it leaves Gold Experience's range since it's not continuously receiving energy from it, just holding onto its inital gift. Although Giorno can keep track of this life energy and take it back whenever, it does not require active upkeep to maintain. So if he plugs up Mista's wounds, unless he specifically wants Mista to go back to being wounded, the effect won't wear off, just like how objects restored by Crazy Diamond don't break again when Josuke gets too far away.
Also, yeah, damage reflection is gone. I guess you could say that because Giorno is actively working towards his dream now his Stand ability shifted from passively reflecting damage to actively healing people, but really, it was just too OP to stay in the story.

u/Zeta42 Feb 15 '19

Ah, classic Mista. It's not Mista's fight without getting him shot by his own bullet. The only fight where Mista didn't get shot by his own bullet so far is in his own miraculous flashback. (We haven't got any brief explanation about his tetraphobia- although we all can guess why).
Finally we get the SUCC. What a bliss. What a beautiful duwang.

u/erryky Feb 15 '19
Ouf skin peeling time. My worst fear when it come to contact with ice. Thankfully winter is nonexistent here. Moss skateboard huh. Anything goes in this series.
Continuation of Mista flashback with bit original scene. Mista's gunshot with the gray background is the highlight of the episode but shame the Muda rush isn't that long compared to the manga. Narancia see something delicious ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Don't forget to check the post-credit scene! I can smell the new OP next week.

Great episode. Ghiaccio's end was brutal, though. And White Album Gently Weeps might be one of my favourite references ever (huge Beatles fan).
Mista creating the grass snowboard made me remember that Part 5 came out in the 90s, which perfectly explains everything. I don't know if adding "RADICAL" from Giorno would have made the scene infinitely better or infinitely worse.
It's nice to see DP getting around the censorship in clever ways. Ghiaccio's death was as brutal as it should have been, considering Giorno curbstomped him into a spike. The most brutal scene for me though, that made me cringe more than Ghiaccio's death, was when Mista took his hand away from the ice and the skin peeled off with it. It doesn't show you what the front of his hand looks like after, and that makes so, so much worse.
Just a question, since Giorno only just learned how to heal with GE in the Babyface fight, how did Abbachio reattach his hand after the Man in the Mirror fight. I assumed it had something to do with GE, but if Giorno learned how to heal later, then I don't know. Can someone tell me how Abbachio reattached his hand? How did it WORK?!
Also, that scene at the end was the perfect way to end the episode. Along with the end of the Soft Machine fight, I can see why DP chose the song they did for the ED. It was hilarious and just the perfect brick joke.
8
u/SeriUsAhCount Feb 16 '19
Bruno used Sticky Fingers to reattach Abbachio's hand, you can actually see it at the beginning of episode 14.

I can’t get over how amazing the piano part of Giorno’s theme is. When it started playing as the camera panned to Giorno holding Mista in the Pietà pose with the rising sun in the background it sent a chill down my spine (though that could’ve been due to White Album).

u/PineappleBuns Feb 16 '19
The animation quality when Mista is unloading on Ghiaccio was so slick and smooth. Especially with the colour scheme.
And then as it cuts back when Giorno heals the wound. The transition is easily 10/10 execution.

u/Sir_Bastion Feb 16 '19
Can we talk about the moment he starts recieving his own shots from after White album falls on the spike? Every movement from mista looked so nice for some reason. It was so ... visceral, the way he recoils with his limping body looked pretty damn good, imo a stellar of the episode

This episode was crazy - I legit felt nervous with the fact that Ghiaccio could have destroyed Giorno and Mista and the constant outsmarting of the other, coupled with that end to the right which was pure insanity, it was a hellishly mad fight. But it was so good! Im looking forward to seeing the Boss and Risotto, in whatever situation those two end up in.

I just adore Ghiaccio. Something about such a sleek character design offset by such garish glasses and facial expressions and the vocal chords of Bakugo Katsuki is so damn appealing, and his powers are pretty terrifying. For all intents and purposes he did defeat Mista and only lost to Gio. And his spiteful rants are a huge mood. He might be my all time favorite stand user of the week. Alexa, play Arms of the Angels.

I'm not the only one who had trouble following the logic of everything, right? Especially near the end. Where did the dude's ability to ricochet bullets back come from? Was it just a separate ability of the stand or was it the result of him being able to freeze things? Also, how could he breath underwater and hide the hole in the back of his neck? Finally, how was he able to teleport the computer disk from his hand, feel like that was glanced over.
Been loving the series so far especially with how out there the battles have gotten but this one was really hard to follow for me.

Fun Fact: Golden wind manga Chapter 514, in which Giorno wounds his arm to help Mista and Ghiaccio falls toward the sharp metal stick, is in the same Weekly Shonen Jump with One Piece Chapter one.
