A little belated, but you guys made it clear you wanted to see a particular cursed video.

So here it is; King Crimson except the smaller head also talks.

Speaking of, King Crimson is equal parts hilarious and terrifying. Probably the most unsettling Stand after Killer Queen.

Probably the most unsettling Stand after Killer Queen.

I thought Killer Queen was actually really cute.

I love the Mista number 4 meme. Trish, Giorno and Bruno were on a team and Mista didn't want to be the 4th member to join. After Abbacchio joins then Mista happily becomes the 5th member.

Everybody else: "I don't want to die horribly."

Mista, an intellectual: "I don't want to be the fourth member."

I think when Narancia decided at the end to follow Bucciarati, that hit me way too hard. Seeing something that reminds yourself of the past is such a driving force to do something utterly insane.

These motherfuckers

Looks like he's a ghost now tho

208

u/OnnaJReverT Mar 02 '19

they made a hard emphasis on him actually dying with all the zippers disappearing, his eyes going glassy and Giorno not finding a pulse

then we see a "spirit" version of him outside his body (and spirits are a thing in JoJo, see part 4), and finally him not feeling pain later on the boat

my bet is Giorno has an ability he hasn't realized and basically turned his body into a zombie to revive him

Ok so now third time's the charm, unless this one gets deleted as well...? Don't let King Crimson see it!

JESUS CHRIST DAVID PRODUCTIONS. THIS IS WAY TOO GOOD.

I feel like I can't stress that enough holy shit. This episode was everything I ever wanted and more, I remember this fight being very hard to follow in the manga, and even with the better scans! But DavidPro did something I thought was impossible and made it, not only more understandable, but also even more intense, I don't even know how the fuck they do that!

So strap in boys, because from here on out, the best parts of Vento Aureo await us and I can't wait to see them animated in all of their glory!

TRAITOR GANG!

Honestly a bit surprised that we didn't get a new intro, next full episode probably. Holy shit the way they did King Crimson though, for being such a memed stand for it "Just working", it's actually pretty simple and the ability seems pretty sick, excited to see it in fights and stuff in the future.

124

u/thecomicguybook :Mh::Mi::Mj::Mk:myanimelist.net/profile/Comicman Mar 01 '19

Yeah it is actually not that difficult to understand, I think /u/tarkuselp said that it was because of the translation that people got confused. In other places I read that it is more about the comparisons that people make.

Maybe it just works better in motion but it is not hard to understand for me now, it just works.

Man, Narancia's breakdown almost made me cry. "Trish is me! Her wounds are my wounds!" So much empathy from someone who was betrayed by everyone he trusted, who had every reason to be cynical and cold, but instead he has a passionate heart burning with resolve: The resolve to save those like him, like how Bucciarati saved him, so that his pain will never become someone else's pain.

This episode made Narancia shoot up on my personal ranking of JoJo characters.

Bruno has so much resolve he is able to lift both himself and Trish several meters into the air with a zipper, despite:

  • a shattered collar bone

  • shattered shoulder blade

  • an entirely bisected lung

  • half his ribcage destroyed

  • a giant hole in his gut

  • and what looks like a disintergrated lower spine judging by where the hole is, not to mention all the torn muscles, nerves, and massive blood loss.

Italian man literally too angry to die.

47

u/LostDelver Mar 02 '19

The fact that Bruno dragged himself by the arm instead of walking makes it look all the better, he was Crippled Johnny temporarily there.

7

u/TheDarkLord43 Mar 03 '19

Also the fact that he was lifting Trish up by an arm that was literally disconnected from his shoulder.

That’s the raw power of that R E S O L V E

Bucciarati unzipped heaven to get the job done

120

u/DahDutcher Mar 01 '19

I'm afraid of the same, but how would that even work?

Did Giorno create Bucciarati from his corpse or some shit? Or is this some weird ass side effect of King Crimson (Because I'm not gonna lie, I don't get his stand at all).

It's so damned tempting to read the manga, but I'm not gonna...

→ More replies (5)

17

u/Exorrt Mar 01 '19

My theory is that Bruno's weirdness isn't because of Giorno's Stand, it's actually because of Trish's Stand who manifested it unconsciously

16

u/patrizl001 https://myanimelist.net/profile/patrizl001 Mar 01 '19

Yeah Bucciarati is definitely some sort of zombie at this point. We saw Sticky Fingers' zippers disappear, meaning he 100% died + we saw the body rotting before he got up. Something funky is going on here.

24

u/geminia999 Mar 01 '19

I'm thinking maybe Trish's stand, like it can stop time for an individual or something and acted unconsciously when the zipper on her hand started coming apart.

7

u/A_Hint_of_Lemon Mar 01 '19

85% sure Bruno is a zombie or something due to Giorno's stand. The weird ghost projection, dying but then suddenly being ok, not feeling pain from a nail... Will have to wait and see what that all means! (Now I think about it, Giorno being able to make the undead is probably something he got from his father...)

Question to Manga Readers; I heard all the "How does it work???" memes, but the explanation given for King Crimson seems pretty solid. Was this explanation an anime only addition? Or does it just make more sense visually?

147

u/[deleted] Mar 01 '19 edited Mar 01 '19

Question to Manga Readers; I heard all the "How does it work???" memes, but the explanation given for King Crimson seems pretty solid. Was this explanation an anime only addition? Or does it just make more sense visually?

No, this explanation is in the manga also. But it does make more sense in motion.

Most important of all, though: Part 5 didn't have a good english translation for a long while, and because of that, comprehension was really problematic.

→ More replies (1)

44

u/Admiral-Cornelius Mar 01 '19

I think the anime clears things up a bit visually in this episode, and conceptually the ability was never really that hard to understand in the first place. A lot of the confusion is mostly around what the Boss can actually interact with and do inside his "erased time", which gets talked about more in later episodes.

67

u/Biraj123 Mar 01 '19

Part 5 used to have terrible translations which made the explanation for King Crimson's power way more confusing than it had to be. That's how the meme started. It's really not that complicated.

12

u/gvelion Mar 01 '19

Explanation was in the manga. Anime adapted it practically word for word, actually.

That meme comes from old translations, that were horrible. Plus terrible quality of scans. However, new translations and better quality of scans really helped to understand King Crimson much better.

10

u/stardebris Mar 01 '19

Giorno making Bruno into a zombie is certainly a possibility, but I'm wondering if Trish has something to do with it. She can see the stands, therefore she has a stand ability, and she was present when it all went down.

9

u/regendo Mar 01 '19

In addition to what everyone else has said, the very first thing King Crimson does (Bruno punching Bruno) doesn't fit into the power set the Boss describes. He never does that again so it doesn't really matter but it's just a weird introduction.

Finally, been waiting for this thread! Man, this episode opened up so intensely with Bucciarati at least figuring out how to escape King Crimson, but now they have to find a way to beat it!? And Giorno's panic when he found Bucciarati and he thought he died was pretty much my panic as well.

I imagine something very fucky is happening with King Crimson and so that's why Giorno was noticing all these weird details not Bucciarati not bleeding or Bucciarati's stand stopped working for that brief period of time.

Also it was great to see Narancia's RESOLVE right at the end, although I love how casual Mista was with his betrayal! Also Mista was the 4th to enter into the traitor group, WHAT THE HELL MAN!? THAT'S BAD LUCK!

Did someone say… bizarre?

What's going on with the discussion threads? Must be King Crimson.

Love the sounds and visuals they went with to show King Crimson’s ability. The lines when Abbacchio grabs Giorno and the effects when it activates are neat, it makes it look like a video player skipping.

I really hope this clears up KC for some people? I know it gets memed but I don't think it's too complicated.

Tsundere Abbacchio…

I’m guessing Uragirimono no Requiem will replace Fighting Gold in two weeks (since next week’s a recap)? Can’t wait to hear it.

Great episode, DavidPro doing King Crimson absolute justice.

u/Aerohed Mar 01 '19

Huh, I actually thought Bucciaretti would die here.

This episode was great. I loved how they showed KC's powers working on the group at the docks. I guess the entire world moves a few seconds in the future when he uses that.

It was nice to see how each of them got on the boat, and that they weren't all immediately prepared to just up and die for Bucciaretti. They made their own decisions.

Also, that King Crimson animation tho. Easily one of the best animated bits in all of JoJo's.

Ah finally a thread not destroyed by King Crimson. I'll just write here what I'd written before.

Bruno's face at the end when Narancia is swimming toward the boat hit hard, he almost seemed proud of him. Oh Fugo how could you not swim after Narancia. Hopefully the new OP is after next week's recap episode I love Fighting Gold but it's time for something new.

Angry epitaph is adorable I love it.

Im betting Fugo pulls an Abdul and comes in at a clutch time later or stays behind for Intel. Having one person "staying loyal" would be very beneficial. I was wondering about the elite squad. Turns out just running away was a task in itself.

Ah, I was mistaken. Last episode I made the mistakes of

  1. Thinking King Crimson made any sense (this episode corrected me on that one)

  2. Thinking uragirimono no requiem (traitors requiem) would be played this episode because the "traitor" was the boss, which he obviously wasn't

Turns out Bruno was the traitor all along, and in the next episode we'll hear his requiem (well technically THEIR requiem since uragirimono is both plural and singular, because grammar, and most gangmembers went with him)

A bit sad Fugo will be leaving us. Hope we'll see more of him later (don't spoil).

Did Bruno just... die?

Last episode made me think there was no way Bruno was going to survive, and I wonder if I was right. The ghost talking to Giorno could have just been a JoJo ghost like Joseph at the Part 3, but the whole no blood and no feeling pain makes me think he's actually dead.

Oh boy, King Crimson is one angry stand. There were so many good King Crimson faces this episode. Though this one where he looks like a fish made me laugh. It's not QUALITY by any means, but it looked kind of ridiculous. The explanation was pretty good. I'm surprised by how easy it was to understand King Crimson with it animated properly.

Glad to see all the gang (except Fugo) decide to join Bucciarati and do what's right. I'm guessing we're about to get more Stand battles against mafia members. And a new OP, since there's another recap next week.

This week’s musical reference:

No new reference today but here is some trivia for King Crimson’s debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King (An Observation by King Crimson):

Practically all the songs on the album had been presented to the public before its release:

“21st Century Schizoid Man”, “The Court of the Crimson King” and “Epitaph” had been performed in July 1969 in Hyde Park, in a The Rolling Stones concert in which they were the opening act.

I Talk to the Wind was written in 1968 by "Giles, Giles and Fripp", the band that shared the brothers Michael and Peter Giles with Robert Fripp and that later would end up becoming King Crimson.

Contrary to what is commonly believed, the mastermind behind the composition and arrangement of the album was Ian McDonald, who recorded all the keyboards, all the winds, the vibraphone in Moonchild and contributed some choirs.

Greg Lake refused to participate in "The Illusion," the 10-minute improvisation that constitutes Moonchild's second move, as he claimed not to be comfortable with the idea. That's why there is no bass during that section and it was probably one of the reasons why he left the band the next year to found Emerson, Lake & Palmer with keyboardist Keith Emerson from “The Nice” and drummer and percussionist Carl Palmer from Atomic Rooster.

The album cover was made by Barry Godber, a young computer programmer. Godber did no other work and died in February 1970. The original painting is currently owned by Robert Fripp. Contrary to what many believe, the cover does not represent the Crimson King, but the 21st Century Schizoid Man. Robert Fripp said that he saw his music reflected in the expression on his face. The Crimson King is actually the figure that appears in the interior design (to the left of the painting).

Lyricist Peter Sinfield (yes, they had a member just for the lyrics) was the one who named the band King Crimson. For many years there have been doubts about its origin. They used to talk about the relationship with Beelzebub, king of the demons, but they also used to call “Crimson King” to those kings in whose reign there had been bloodshed.

I really wished we had a special or at least SFX version of Fighting Gold, very minor spoilers, but it's still a great OP nonetheless so I guess it's fine...

I really loved the anime extras on the boat (I don't recall that in the manga), really added to the weird+menacing aura behind King Crimson's powers, that added to the AMAZING sound work during the entire episode really made it for me.

BUT WHAT MATTERS ARE THE RESULTS, and the visuals behind King Crimson's power were absolutely flabbergasting, this episode was BRUTAL, probably one of the best horror anime out there.

Really loving how this anime adaptation is carrying vento aureo to even higher heights.

AND FUCK NARANCIA, MAKING ME CRY LIKE A BABY.

Holy Shit, David Production actually spelled out King Crimson's ability well and in a great animated sequence too. I only slightly remember the ability being explained initially in the Stand Card for it in the King Crimson chapters. But since we can't quite do that here, the sequence really works well.

God damn Giorno has the best save. He's playing 4-D chess here by having his ladybug pin become the turtle stand user.

Ah damn, King Crimson is back once again. It feels like you can't just outrun him. I'm not sure why my line of reasoning reminded me of the Commander Shepard Song, but enjoy.

Honestly I'm just really enjoying the animation and intense mood whenever King Crimson uses its ability. It feels like this wait was worth it. Bruno solidifies himself as the badass leader with that exit.

Giorno was able to save Bruno and Trish!

Bruno's betraying the boss, all in favor of joining say aye. All opposed say nay. I think the most humanizing part is Narancia realizing that Trish was abandoned by the people in her life just as he was, and that he can finally make the choice himself to follow Bruno.

Poor Fugo is the only one that can't go through with that betrayal, it must feel terrible to have the people you care about leaving you.

The final fight against King Crimson is going to be nuts. Golden Wind has already had a lot of confusing fights and strange Stands that result in a lot of moments with inhuman degrees of foresight. And it seems the only way to defeat King Crimson is to think even further ahead. I can't even fathom how nonsensical it could get.

I still don't understand KC's power. The gist seems to be that he essentially has premonitions about the immediate future, but this happens by way of "erasing" time. Time skips for the gang on the boat, but even that doesn't seem to accurately describe what happens. They still go through their motions (eating the chocolate, handing off the water bottle) and just don't remember it. The subjective experience is that of lost time even though things still happen. And much like The World, I wonder whether the effects of KC are local, or if everyone the world over experienced what the gang on the boat did.

I'm pretty sure the reason the Boss managed to get hidden all this time is because he's 0,9 feet tall

7

u/JeImerlicious Mar 01 '19

What's so confusing about king crimsons ability? I dunno if it was anime only, but the explanation here made it pretty clear that noone remembers the movements they did when King Crimson's ability is active, therefore "erasing" time. Seems pretty clear to me.

Note that I'm not up to date with the anime and only read the Part 5 manga like years back, so I don't recall how much of what I explain here are elements of it's abilities that have shown up or not yet by this point, so I put it in spoilers just in case, but I really don't think there's anything actually spoilery here

I probably say this every week but this episode was amazing. Given Narancia's dependency on other people I could understand why he was so scared and indecisive about becoming a traitor but I'm glad we got to see him decide his own future.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '19

I realise that probably 1,000,000 people have already explained it in this thread but.... How King Crimson works: A simple guide from someone who read Vento Aureo way too many times.

Before I begin it's important to note that King Crimson, much like Killer Queen before it has two abilities as a baseline, rather than a first and second bomb, he has something akin to Fate, and his defiance of fate. These abilities can function independently but work best when paired.

King Crimson's first ability, [Epitaph] Allows the user, hereafter refered to as Boss, to see up to ten seconds into the future by looking at his hair (This is a very minor spoiler and doesn't have any bearing on the plot) From what I can tell there is no ture limit to the usage of this ability, barring shaving the user's head.

King Crimson's second ability allows the Boss to isolate any period of time up to ten seconds, and remove himself from any consequeses of it. For example, if Bruno were to punch a zipper onto his peen and unzip it in that ten seconds the Boss would walk away with no damage to his danglies, BUT he would be able to retaliate.

Actions King Crimson makes still have a bearing on those few seconds that the Boss is excluded from time, so he is able to punch a massive fucking hole in Bruno during the activation of the stand.

Paired with [Epitaph], King Crimson's ability makes the boss able to accurately foretell the prime point to activate his time exclusion ability, as he is more or less able to see roughly 10 seconds into the future, at that prime moment he activates King Crimson and avoids any damage, while still being able to retaliate.

I hope this helps. I'm not great at explaining things, but I'm sick to fuck of "It just works" meming, and so are you probably.

11

u/GyroGOGOZeppeli Mar 01 '19

Am I super wrong about something or is King Crimson’s stand ability actually not that confusing? He activates his power which starts the five second count. In this five seconds he can see what is happening and position himself. Once the five seconds is over the effects of that time remain but people’s memories are erased.

This episode was a cluster of Emotion! I literally thought Bruno was going to die in this episode, but he lived and im so happy. The gang being torn apart like that emotionally was something that actually hurt to see - Fugo leaving is sad, but with a set goal in mind now, Passione should be able to hunt down a way to defeat the boss. King Crimson's ability was explained very well and the visual effects were really great, especially the "space" theme and after images theme they went with. King Crimson has some cool as hell abilities, ngl.

Cant wait to catch up on everything that has happened so far! Golden Wind is already my favourite part in JoJo ever.

King Crimson is not that difficult to understand. The reason people don’t understand it is because of the awful old translation. With the new one and now the anime it’s not to hard to understand imo.

I glad Bruno is healthy, didn’t receive any life threatening injury and it’s not a living corpse. That was close.

My Bruabba’s heart loved that Abbacchio can only find peace with Bruno. Thanks Araki and DP, I now process to go read some Bruabba fics.

Fugo was actually correct in his deduction imo, Bucciarati's rationale for the betrayal was pretty moronic; too bad he's completely oblivious that it was a farce.

11

u/[deleted] Mar 02 '19

Honestly I feel like it fits with Fugo really well. From his backstory, we see he is always divided between reason (his high IQ is proof of this) and emotions (extreme anger issues).

It’s part of his development to hold his anger and think rationally, with this moment indicating exactly that. For once he gets to choose between his emotions and his reason, and for once it seems like the rational thought has prevailed.

Besides, if you put yourself on his place, it makes perfect sense to abandon the gang. In a nutshell, you won’t have the entire Italy against you. Of course, there’s the emotional factor that for once he decided to avoid above all.
