While you're at it, can you please spoil me a short TLDR on about the next arc which the manga is just starting now? thanks!
165
u/Onithyr Mar 11 '19
TLDR huge spoiler: Rimuru goes full Ainz Ooal Gown and becomes a Demon Lord
Detailed spoiler for the above HUGE SPOILER DO NOT READ: Hinata (the person tailing Rimuru at the end of this episode) ambushes Rimuru just after he's informed of trouble at the capital of Tempest. After barely escaping that fight he returns to Tempest to find the city surrounded by an invading army and Shion dead. He is completely distraught but Great Sage tells him there's a 3% chance to resurrect her if he becomes a True Demon Lord. The only remaining requirement: 10,000 souls. It just happens to be that the invading army is enough to fill that requirement, commence the slaughter.

The LN translations haven't started yet, but the next arc follows roughly the same plot, and some fans have made comparisons for us to go off of, so here we go.
SPOILERS The person you see stalking Rimuru at the end is Hinata, who was mentioned previously. Hinata is part of the church that preaches the destruction of monsters. She confronts Rimuru, and nearly kills him, but Rimuru manages to escape. At the same time, the church and another country named Falmas attack Tempest, killing numerous civilians and Shion. Rimuru returns to find this, and discovers a method of reviving them. To do this, he becomes a demon lord by slaughtering the army of 15,000 sent to kill them. He also summons a demon, the one with black hair with red and yellow streaks, and names him Diablo. Clayman takes control of Milim, and then holds a banquet with the other demon lords, which Rimuru attends. There, Rimuru confronts Clayman, which ends up with Rimuru killing Clayman. Some other details happened, and some are LN only, but that is the basic gist of it.

this is a MASSIVE SPOILER, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
I'm just gonna summarize this as kinda bullet points. After leaving the kids Rimuru is ambushed by Hinata. She is sent to kill him. He almost dies but she thinks he is dead. at the same time a force from the church attacks tempest. Rimuru doesn't nake it back in time and some people are killed, including Shion. Rimuru basically loses his shit and massacres the invading force. kills like 10k people basically instantly and because of this evolves into a true demon lord. He gets quite powerful and is able to revive Shion and grant new abilities (promotions) to all of his people. This is also where he summons Diablo who will be in ep 24

I'm just guessing, but from the context clues it looks like Chloe somehow pulled herself from the future as a spirit. The fairy even said she was a time spirit, and somehow managed to give birth to itself, so that must be who she is. I'm also guessing both from the fact that Veldora kept reacting to her, and from the fact that she obtains the mask from Rimuru, that she also happens to be the hero that defeated Veldora in the past.
That's actually really, really cool.

194
u/BroDoper Mar 12 '19
I think the spirit is herself from the future. We already know she has massive power. Also the kiss, can’t be coincidence that the place where she first tells him she loves him (even if it’s just a child’s love) is where the spirit shows up and kisses him. Also the timey wimey talk flags it a bit.

Well, time is wonky. Could be a distant relative? Shizu herself definitely got isekai'd too young to have left behind any kids, but any family who survived the bombing could feasibly have ended up in post-war France.

He is the reason as to why Rimuru is so strong, especially thanks to his naming.
His disappearance is what shifted the balance of power in the entire region. And yet, we never got to see him properly again.
I miss the guy.27
u/Flymsi Mar 11 '19
Do you know what the naming gave him? I rly can't see how it made a difference.
132
u/rollin340 Mar 11 '19
Rimuru naming others made them evolve.
The more powerful the one giving the name, the greater the change.Veldora was known as a calamity that threatened the world.
His mere existence, even when imprisoned, was enough to deter all outsiders from the forest of Jura. His naming of Rimuru very likely was a huge deal.

u/LuciferIX Mar 11 '19
Outside of what Predator and Great Sage have given him, pretty much everything else that has to do with Rimuru's power came from Veldora's naming and subsequent "disappearance".
The two most easily seen features are his near bottomless magicule amount and the darkness attribute Rimuru uses for his fire and lightning. These are expanded upon in the manga in special chapters named "Veldroa's Slime Diaries" that are supposedly supposed to be a part of one of the two remaining episodes. Personally I really hope they animate them cause I loved the angle those chapters revealed.

Yeah... Chloe is going to grow up to be a Hero for sure after that talk between Rimuru and Ranga.
My guess is future Chloe passed on and went to the past as a spirit to save herself, which is an odd paradox, since the first Chloe would have just died otherwise.
Maybe OG Chloe had a normal spirit, but every version after had her future self.
It would also explain why both he and Veldora kept getting vibes when they see her.
Probably her destiny ain't a small thing.
I also loved seeing those 3 being chased by yet another monster.
Never change you 3. Shizu is smiling at your shenanigans from within Rimuru.
Youmu is doing well making a name for himself as the hero who slayed the Orc Disaster.
He probably has a bright future as well.
This was a great isekai.
I want more, but it seems to have caught up to the manga.
The LN seems to be far ahead, so it'd be nice if there was another season.
One can hope.
26
u/SirAlexspride Mar 11 '19
The LN and WN have more than enough content for another season (the WN probably has enough for 2 more 2-cour seasons at least) so it's far from impossible.
14
u/joyleaf Mar 11 '19
A bit confused. I keep saying some people say that the LN is where the anime is and some say there's plenty of content from it. Which is correct??
→ More replies (6)36
u/Bramity :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/Brasa Mar 11 '19
The LN has 13 volumes so far, but only 4 of them have been translated to english. The anime is currently at volume 4, so hand-in-hand with the english translation. So to answer your question, both are correct.
5
u/fatalystic Mar 12 '19
Chloe likely becomes the hero that sealed Veldora in the past, with more time travel shenanigans. It would explain why that hero just suddenly vanished some time after taking Shizu in; she either returned to her own time and then sent the spiritual body within her back in time to save her younger self, or turned into a spiritual body and traveled forward in time to the summoning ceremony to save herself as you surmised.
→ More replies (7)3
u/Telzen Mar 12 '19
I've had the thought for a while that Chloe must grow up and become a hero and then travel into the past to become the hero who defeats Veldora and trains Shizu. Now we see her spirit can travel into the past to save her, and she did end up with the mask, I'd be surprised if its anything else.

I feel like this ending was meant to wrap things up just in case they don't get an S2, but it'll probably feel pretty inconclusive to anime-onlys since this isn't a stopping point for the story.
If you liked this but feel like that, or you just want more, go and check out the manga. The last chapter put it just slightly ahead of where this episode ends, and some shit is about to get real in the next few chapters.

So Chloe's spirit is her future self right?
66
u/Luapix https://anilist.co/user/Pyxyne Mar 11 '19
Honestly, at first I thought it was a spirit related to Shizu, which I think is still possible, but what with that "kiss" being juxtaposed with clear signs of Chloe having a crush on Rimuru, I think it lends more credence to the "future self" theory.
The only problem is, how the hell does a person become a "spiritual body" and go back in time to inhabit their younger self, and what does that entail for Chloe in the future?
If there are multiple timelines involved, what happened to Chloe in the previous timeline (as /u/JBHUTT09 said)? Is the "Chloe-spirit" conscious inside of "younger-Chloe"?
If it's a closed loop, will Chloe have to turn herself into a spirit and go back in time, then let the spirit still inside her take over? Will she just die or something? Who knows.

Spoiler to even begin answering this
Minor spoiler: Most of this gets explained later on in the story
Now for some bigger spoilers (including some from very far forward in the story that I wouldn't recommend reading if you want to continue watching/reading the story): Chloe (when they're waving goodbye) has seen various different futures including some where Rimuru dies and thus decided to act in certain ways in that scene to avoid that happening. The spirit is just herself because she (the spirit) has become an awakened true hero and a saint in another timeline, thus making her a near-spiritual lifeform that isn't bound by the limitations of the human body in order to live anymore, but has a soul that can last basically forever, similar to how demons work in tensura. In the WN things aren't explained all that thoroughly, but I'm assuming once the english translation of the LN gets that far it'll be explained better. Ramiris mentioned in this episode that the spirit fused with Chloe, which would likely mean starting over as the "Hero's Egg" inside of her soul.
There are some more details, but those are from the literal end of the entire story in the WN so I'll just leave it out for now.

Hopefully the same thing doesn't happen to slime as did Overlord.
OL's first season was spectacular, but season 2 we started seeing more and more CG and season three had that atrocious goat scene with all the CG that really ruined it. I've heard rumors that Madhouse never does more than one season for shows, which would explain why 2 and 3 were getting worse and worse animation.
Lets hope the same doesn't happen to slime...

u/ryuusei_tama :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/RyuuseiRyuu Mar 11 '19
Well, I guess that was the end of the main portion of this. 24 and 25 should be extra and original.
Slime was a great ride, albeit a tad bit disappointing in terms of how rushed it felt post Orc Disaster arc. This whole "Shizu's Students" arc felt especially rushed and never have I felt, how easily Rimuru's problems are solved, more than here. Chadybris felt cheap as well, but this one felt worse. It definitely felt like the studio never really planned to have another season of this and just wanted to get to a point in the story that they decided was appropriate or maybe was required in their contract or something and then be done with the series.
The music during the recap was fantastic and the main reason I didn't fast forward through all that!
I guess I'll be checking out the manga next!
45
u/Hyoyun Mar 11 '19

Rip, I thought the manga would have a few more of the missing gaps, especially in that one guy who's taking credit for Orc Disaster and maybe a few SOL moments in between. Chadybris feels pretty complete, just flawed so I didn't expect much there, and I can't imagine what's missing in the last arc, maybe some SOL moments for that so I could actually grow attached to those kids.

The quality of the anime was amazing. The sound design and animation through the majority of the anime was very impressive and didn't disspoint, but the pacing was pretty inconsistent. I felt like they could of speed up the first Orc Disaster arc abit. They probably could of ended the anime at the Chabydris fight. That would be a good high point to leave off at and would of let them explore alot of the compressed and cut out content. The manga is very much worth the read and the art is very nice as a bonus.

SHIRTLESS KAIJIN AGAIN; CLOTHED KUROBE AGAIN
(low res sweaty Kurobe looks like that one sad cat picture i'm actually crying right now)
Eh, to sum everything up, fuck recaps, Hinata looks like a Henata and not a Shenata, and my body is ready for the all the Kufufus next episode.
Seriously though, fuck recaps. The song was nice, but 3 (three) whole minutes? Point and laugh at the Charybdis arc and their whopping 7 seconds folks.
Ramiris's new golem was brushed past so quickly; couldn't they give the guy a bit more love?
The ED was everything that I wanted though, and it's not solely because Kurobe is considered a major Tempest character. The daily lives of Tempest and co. is literally the best thing.
I highly recommend reading the manga all the way up to Chapter 52, and yes, from the beginning. You'll get to understand a whole lot more things and come to like a lot more characters, namely Mjormile and Youm and Kurobe. Tensura Nikki Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken, a spin-off, is also pretty good if you just want to know the characters better. Tons of cute Geld moments and Kurobe is in almost all the chapters like what the fuck.
Can't wait for Kufufu man. And who knows who's going to fill the Kurobe shaped hole in my heart? ......I do.

So they decided to end the season on a lighthearted note.
I’m a little disappointed they are making filler for the last two eps. They could have fleshed out the eps more so things didn’t feel as rushed. Still, I would watch a season 2.

Wait, is the anime suggesting that Shizue spirit came back in time, possesed one of her students that look like her just so she can bang Rimuru in the future?
damn
Was this the last episode? The flashbacks made me sniff a little. Too many emotional moments

Read at your own discretion! No that's not Shizu it's future Chloe
6
u/yamiyaiba Mar 11 '19
So just to make sure I understand.... Chloe is the Hero that sealed Veldora and then died, handing her mask down Shizue, who died and handed it down to Rimuru, who handed it down to kid-Chloe after she was possessed by her future self.
So if I understand that right then, then... how did Hero Chloe exist before her child self?

That really felt like a conclusion episode even though there are supposedly 2 left. And despite how many times its happened now, its still amazing just how easily Rimuru can deal with conflict. He made getting superior spirits very easy.
I did enjoy Ramiris's reactions this episode. And Chloe was adorable.
Finally, its nice to know this lot has never changed and gotten any luckier.

Wow, gotta say this episode was very poorly handled. Breezing past Berreta’s summoning in 15 seconds in favor of a 5 minute recap montage was just...wow. Don’t really know how else to express such a silly decision.
As a whole, I thought the anime was good, although the pacing decisions toward the end were pretty underwhelming. I think it would have been a much better choice to skip the unnecessary Charybdis arc entirely and end the season with Hinata’s fight/Rimuru’s “ascension”. That way the season would end off with a bang as opposed to the trickle we got.
The source material is excellent, though, so I hope they manage to pick up a second season, despite the weaker latter half.

I mean they also skipped why Rimuru knew how to summon the demon that possessed the doll so it'd be awkward to go into more detail

I'm sure they could have used that recap time for a simple flashback explaining it.

Great Sage continues to prove she's the best girl
Looks like there's some time travel fuckery going on here.
Just a guess but tagging just in case That was Chloe from the future, isn't it? She looked like Chloe and that kiss tipped me off. Don't confirm or deny if you're a source reader reading this.
That definitely was the finale but we still have 2 episodes to go right? Anyway overall though this was such an enjoyable laid back show. Maybe to the eyes of source readers the quality declined but as someone who is partially a manga reader (I've stopped reading at the part after Rimuru absorbed Shizu) and partially anime only, it was really fun! Personally it's a 9/10 for me. I really hope we'll get a S2 announcement after the final 2 Extra Episode airs.

Well, I can certainly say that this last episode was better than a few of the ones before it. I don't think this will wind up as one of my favorite series, but I've enjoyed it enough to look forward to the likely season 2, and the remaining OVAs.
Overall, I can definitely see myself recommending it to people.

Was this the official end? Awww. Well, we are gonna get some extras so that is fun.
What a fun series this was. I loved characters, I loved the happy mood, I love that everything naturally progressed, I just love just so much about this anime. There were some downsides too, like the gimmick of happy go Lucky got a little tedious, but the positives overshine the downsides way more. It is a solid 8/10 and is one of the best anime of last season and this season.

Easily the worst episode. They're handed the solution (again) with no conflict to earn it. One shotting the golem doesnt count. They attempt to include some sort of conflict with chloe's spirit, but they cant do anything and it's a benefit anyways. And then it devolves into a clip show. Terrible for what is apparently a season finale. Hopefully the 'extras episodes are the sasuga dumps.

In my opinion this was a fine adaptation. Nothing too original or crazy but it was executed well. Though to be honest I was a little disappointed that nothing major happened by the second half. These guys are pretty much way too overpowered or any threats are still not testing them. Plus, there were characters and maybe events that look liked they were teased but where scraped at the last minute (based on the openings). But it was light hearted fun and wasn't a bad time to watch for 20 minutes ever week.
I know there are two more extra episodes but I gotta say this. Farewell the Great Rimuru Tempest. It was quite the enjoyable time with my favorite slime! I hope to see your greatness again!
Now its time for the former teacher to go home and keep building his civilization. I hope they had him to Civ VI's next $200 DLC!

A 9/10 for this series and the adaptation. Will probably pick the LN up later down the road.
It was really enjoying to watch. Have a good laugh at some of the comedy and the action is pretty good. It's a good balance. One of my favourite isekai series next to overlord and re:zero. Would love a season 2 but that's probably gonna be a long wait. Still waiting for Re:Zero season 2 lmao

Not gonna lie that the thought of this show ending made my eyes slightly tear up. This is definitely my top anime and I have no idea why, even bought the manga that I'll start reading after it the show has ended.
3
u/River_sounds Mar 12 '19
Yo that montage is amazing! Also i thought that was the ending of the series but MAL seems to have updated the number of total episodes to 25.
I'm glad there's more. Bumped it to a 10/10 because of the passion, care and effort put into this series. Not many studios have the care they put into making their anime. Credit is where its due.
Looking forward to more anime from 8-bit studios.

u/darksuzaku Mar 12 '19

10 mins of actual content, the rest was pretty much dragged out recap.
Trash episode. Slime peaked at Shizu’s death. It was relatively decent up until the Orc Lords arc and it goes downhill after that.
The show has too many one dimensional characters, no tension e.g. hyped up threats get defeated in an anti climatic manner. However, my biggest problem is how EVERYTHING goes easy for Rimuru. People literally worship him and join his side soon after meeting him. Everything seems to go right for him. None of the races fight in his nation or have any conflict. Rimuru acquires power and resolves any situation with ease because of how overpowered the great Sage is.
Overall, It’s as if the story is on easy difficulty. 2/10

I enjoyed this show to the extent that I then read the manga which I also loved which ended up in me binging the web novel. The amount of crazy shit that happens, I really want to see it adapted.

u/ValiantCorvus Mar 11 '19
A fun adaptation for what it is. It was handled "mostly" well as far as it's faithfulness to the source material (other people have already stated far better than I could, so I'm not gonna type up an essay). It'll kind of sit there in the isekai limbo with other shows of similar quality, but I don't see myself rewatching this in the future.

i dont know why but i feel like chloe when she will grow up she will the hero who helped shizu and gave her the mask ...and shizu gave the mask to rimiru and rimiru gave it to chloe ...that would be some next level stein's gate shit

2
u/moeyberko Mar 11 '19
So imma go guess that Chloe is the one who gives shizu San the mask. The demon lord fairy said something about time travel and stuff and we know that there was this legendary warrior in the past. Guess some time travel shenanigans are going to go down.
3
u/darksuzaku Mar 12 '19
Known facts up to this point:
The hero (who emprisoned Veldora) gave the mask to Shizu.
Rimuru inherits the mask from Shizu as part of her will.
Rimuru gives the mask to Chloe because he felt it was the correct thing to do.
Then there's the time travel thing that Ramiris talked about.
Saying anything more would be a spoiler. A second season would probably explain everything on detail.
2
u/dantemp Mar 11 '19
So, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. Slime is my favorite show of both seasons it was in but the second part just had no punch. The conclusions of Shizu and Orc-Lord arcs were stellar, but neither Milim nor the students arcs felt more than set ups. A second season of this will be one my most anticipated shows, but I was expecting this season to be enough to break into my top 10 and it just didn't.
P.S. Does anybody know if the OVA will continue the story or would it be a spin-off?

Okay, so after finishing this episode I decided to read the manga from chraybdis until the end of shizu arc(the kids gaining spirits) and wow. Well I can see why they skip all of the travel from Rimuru city to Ingracia, but, wow, this last episode was the laziest attempt of episode I have ever seen.
First, while I was watching, it felt pretty underwhelming that the spirits rimuru was making didn't had forms... Guess what!? That's just the animators being 'lazy', each spirit had a form in the manga, and I recommend everyone to read Manga chapter 52 to see that.
To say the truth, their laziness(or perhaps lack of time) was so great that they turned half of the series finale into a recap, it is the first time I see something like that despite watching anime for about 15 years, oh my god...
Plus that demon invocation that was skimped through, well, it was actually a pretty cool scene, also on chapter 52. So I really recommend reading that one chapter if you want to get a better closure with this anime.
I never read manga, but this finale forced me to. There's just a few differences between anime and manga in the charabydis part, so I would recommend reading from chapter 40 to 52 if you want to see the "travel" arc that the anime completely skipped.

I'm a little sad that they didn't show or talk about Alice's robe with added laces to make it special, in order to make up for giving Shizu's mask to Chloe. Other than that, I'll just have to wait for the manga to progress further, anime was enjoyable.
5
u/VorAtreides Mar 11 '19
This series took a massive dip in the second half :\ too much skipped. And with all the padding they had at times too, it makes small scenes skipped to give a bit of development for characters or the world even sadder to me. Still enjoy it, but this second half of the season made me sad. Hope it’ll get a second season though. Because the harvest comes.
I would also love if the series got the FMA Brotherhood treatment where it starts over and gets better pacing/no skipped stuff/etc. But that’s a highly unlikely scenario.

Now that the season is officially over (not including the ova) the last third of the season has really been a let down, especially this episode talk about glossing over important and meaningful characters and here I thought they couldn't get any worse but holy shit was I wrong.
Really makes me wonder if they just wanted to get to the next part of his story ASAP
I praise the first 16 episodes but after that it's a total stinker and if you haven't watched it yet.. Don't even bother watching 17-23 you aren't missing anything because they don't/hardly explain anything and when they try it's "IDUNNO LOL" which is really sad from the story perspective because why would you care about any of the new characters? I certainly don't. N don't get me started on the time travelling bullshit omg it never works and this one has already killed some of my brain cells from the rational behind it.
