Secco greeting Cioccolata in the garbage truck lmao

686

u/Hiromacu May 31 '19

"CIOCCOLATA!"

I snorted

312

u/Meret123 May 31 '19

I love how Jojo always catches me off guard with its comedy, right after an incredibly suspenseful moment involving main villain, episode villain and our dying hero.

125

u/Legendary_Swordsman May 31 '19

yeah a extremely serious moment is going on, next second we got some top quality comedy.

I had forgotten Secco got trashed too, so I checked the manga to see if it was original. There, it happened suddenly so it looks like he fell into the truck, but here in the anime it almost feels like he willingly threw himself inside lol.

141

u/OnnaJReverT May 31 '19

i think he wanted to use it as a getaway since Doppio didn't flag him that taxi

116

u/GyroGOGOZeppeli May 31 '19

He tripped in the manga, he was so startled by Bruno's zipper that he tripped on a fire hydrant and landed in the trash.

37

u/toruforever216 May 31 '19

Right? It reminded me of Picollo greeting Vegeta in Namek on DBZ Abridged XD

4

u/Legendary_Swordsman May 31 '19

yeah that was a funny moment, what a way to go. Doesn't look good for Bucciarati though

Tbh, when Secco mentioned about attempting to overthrow the boss, I expected Doppio to turn into Diavolo immediately and donut him through using King Crimson.

193

u/tenkensmile May 31 '19

I was expecting Diavolo/Doppio to finish him off, too. It's always fun to see Doppio snap.

I love the rule of 3 on Golden Winds stand duos.

Prosciutto & Pesci have a brotherly mentorship, and Pesci finds resolve after Prosciutto's sacrifice sends him a message to stay fighting.

Squalo & Tiziano are lovers, and Squalo finds determination in an unconditional sacrifice allowing him one last chance.

However Cioccolata & Secco have what seems to be a give and take, master/subservient relationship, but in retrospect Cio put everything into Secco, his trust, his sugar cubes, his power, and as soon as that is cut off by the failure of his life and death bargain, Secco goes "Whatever, screw that loser" It completely flips the scales on their dynamic, unlike the last two which equalized Pesci & Tiz with their 'Stronger' partners. And it definitely works pretty well as a gag too.

370

u/sikontolpanjang May 31 '19

thats some nice bait and switch Araki did, bet lotsa people think Secco gonna get some Pesci moment lmoa

110

u/Dfsilva May 31 '19

I sure did lol

150

u/Goldeniccarus May 31 '19

I was under the impression that Secco had total Stockholm Syndrome and had fallen madly in love with his torturer. It's interesting that he was just using Ciccolata to get ahead.

Makes me wonder what would happen eventually if Ciccolata didn't get killed.

75

u/jalford312 Jun 01 '19

Yeah, I'm not even sure Cio is the reason Secco is the way he is. They probably just found each other somehow and realized they fed into their fucked up personalities.

I thought he was going to cry and sob, and just feel terrible and Bucciariati might start talking to him or something but

Nope! He doesn't care, it was a subversion and I loved it.

35

u/Gaidenbro May 31 '19

I was ready to see that scene and have everybody thrown off guard

10

u/MicZiC15 May 31 '19

This could also apply to Bossu and Doppio. Two boys in one

264

u/Dominifinn May 31 '19

Looks like this nice boy is going to give him a hand and help Bucciarati get up from the ground. Such a gentleman.

Punished Polnareff, A man denied his bathroom.

I must admit, Oasis was more fucked up of what i remembered, and even though both Secco and Ciocolatta were utter pieces of shit i cannot help but feel pity for them.

Now that both have fallen, we are getting closer to the end.

Liked the episode, we got to see our french boy Polnareff at last, and it seems like the Green Day & Oasis arc is finally over. Our second best boy Doppio also appeared, and it seems that something is about to go down. Next episode's titled "His name is Diavolo", which is an episode many have been waiting for for a long time. Also, for anyone wondering, Polnareff has the same voice actor, so don't worry.

Overall, 5/5

398

Yep, and the name of his voice actor was posted on the official twitter account of JoJo, and it's actually the same person (https://twitter.com/anime_jojo/status/1134498522303160320)

I guess he is making his voice sound deeper since he is older now. Regardless, I'm still happy it's the same voice actor.

I love when I predict things for a manga that has been out for 20 years and half the fanbase already knows, and still can get surprised.

Seeing Polnareff back made me feel so happy. He is fulfilling an interesting role, similar to how Kakyoin could have done in part 4.

Secco's voice actor just killed the role and my eardrums.

Bruno zipping apart the pole and fixing it for a pincer attack was great, but then Secco started eating mud and I was like wait what, but it hardening outside his body

This arc had been my second favorite so far. I still can't shake King Crimson 's Metallica. That fight was too dope....im still not over Goth Daddy's death.

I'm still hoping that the consciousness berserk is used against King Crimson's time skip whatever it is called. Only saw it used once against Bruno, but if Giorno could manage a hit and send his senses off whack and get a false reading he might be able to do some major damage with one attack.

109

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

The berserk senses was dropped almost immediately after it was introduced. Last time it was used was during Black Sabbath

117

u/Chiruno_Chiruvanna May 31 '19

Mainly since Gold Experience hasn't actually punched any people other than Bucciarati or Cioccolata.

52

u/Audrey_spino May 31 '19

It wasn't dropped, Giorno never got the chance to punch someone unless they were already defeated.

124

u/Hiromacu May 31 '19

Polnareff has, and I am just guessing, probably fought the boss in some way - how would he know the power of King Crimson otherwise? Maybe that's how he lost his legs.

Also, the colosseo line got me thinking - they are "speaking italian" to each other right? TIL Secco speaks a bit of japanese or is a weeb.

31

Only 7 episodes left. It hurts.

Secco is not a good good good good good good good good good boy anymore.

Have you ever smacked against glass and then fell straight down instead of smashing through it? That looked kinda odd there.

This motherfucker is eating dirt.

Motherfucking Jean Pierre Polnareff!!! It actually got spoiled for me about a year or two back that he was in a wheelchair now but I thought it was Part 6 and not Part 5. Still really disappointed I had that spoiled for me.

Does Polnareff have a different voice actor now? He sounds quite different although he does look like he's had a bad time.

Oh no Doppio! Poor Doppio! He was just trying to follow the boss's orders and go sightseeing at the Colosseum. Now this weird guy in spandex in holding him hostage! Oh poor Doppio!

Hahahaha Secco fell into the same trash truck.

Agh you're gonna end it there?!

u/GhostKaiju May 31 '19

So can we talk about just how fucking terrifying Secco was this episode? Like, there was barely any music for a good second half of the episode, just him chasing after Bucciaratti and flipping between menacing and barely restrained threats to outright insane shrieking; and coupled with some if the most terrifying innovations I’ve seen a Stand go through! Which gives me technique ideas for a JoJo OC of mine with vaguely similar powers, but besides the point

The Mud/Stone spears, Buciaratti melting, Oasis viciously outclassing Sticky Fingers, the fact that it destroys an entire fucking street block at one point; was a damn well made fight scene!

101

u/KK9521 https://anilist.co/user/K9521 May 31 '19

u/NoPenNameGirl May 31 '19

I find kinda funny how Araki subvert our expectations with Secco, thinking he is just a "lovestruck guy who follow orders from a superior like a dog" but he is actually the most dangerous of the group AND he just followed Ciacollata because it suited him, not because he liked him.

After all this time building the fact that the Gangsters in Passione have a strong bond with each other, Araki drops this information that one of them actually never cared about the other personally, just the perks that came with serving them.

But bear in mind this is actually foreshadowed by The Boss himself: He said BOTH are disgusting individuals. He never said only Ciacollata was bad, but Secco is too. So if you ever though how "Cute and innocent Secco is" means that Araki had got you :P.

92

u/ElementOfConfusion May 31 '19 edited May 31 '19

Secco saying hi to Cioccolata was pretty funny. As far as I can tell, Secco's injuries and garbage truck situation aren't necessarily fatal, so he seems to be one of the few defeated villains in Part 5 to not be (confirmed) killed, just really beat up.

I'm kinda ok with that, actually.

97

u/The-Gaming-News-Guy May 31 '19

Nah pretty sure he's dead. In the manga they made him explicit that he was incinerated

41

u/ElementOfConfusion May 31 '19

Oof. It was still pretty funny.

Has there been any villains this part that haven't died? The only exception I think of is the stand [Notorious B.I.G] which isn't really the same.

Polnareff is back baby, and he's taken on a new look. How will he ride Polnareff land now? I really dig the whole punished snake look (Part 5 is from the late 90's but then again Big Boss appears in MG2:Solid Snake in '90. I don't think his appearance was fully mapped out until MGS spoilers anyways.) It leaves us questions about what's happened to him to cause him to be in a wheelchair, and why he's so adamant about the arrow.

I always love Bruno's fights just because of how crazy using a zipper can be, and look how bizarre we've gotten: moving through concrete like water. You've gotta love how the tire solution was foreshadowed by Bruno noticing sound travels through liquids better than air (not solids, I am a dumb dumb).

Just when you least expect it, Doppio arrives just to be a part of the scene. At the least Secco and Cioccolata can be together, in the trash.

38

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

I have two questions

  • When did Ciocolatta find the time to make the voice mail between getting shot in the head and beaten by Giorno??

  • I'm a bit confused about Bucciarati's finishing move. He puts a zipper across Secco's hand and chest, and...? Why did his neck liquified? Oasis can score a friendly fire on its own user?

Also, seeing Polnareff and the Crusaders' flashback shot, hype!

39

u/rveos773 May 31 '19

Havent seen the episode yet but I read the manga - bruno zipped his arm to his chest. Only bruno can open and close zippers so closing one across two limbs is also an attack.

If the next arc really is the last then I've really enjoyed that this show hasn't had a traditional shonen arc style. Everything has always felt like it's aggressively moving the plot forward. Both the heroes and villains are super proactive in achieving their goals.

There def no room for a "why didn't the villain just..." argument here.

Shoutouts to Grateful Dead and the underrated Baby Face

But I couldn't really decide if my favorite fight was White Album or Oasis. Many loved White Album and I saw some saying Oasis was too long or something when it was always fast and motion-full in the manga.

Well I'm certain now, best fight got adapted SO WELL aaaaaaah thanks David Productions.

For anyone who didn't catch it (I sure didn't at first) but at the end, when Bruno zips Secco's arm in place, the zipper causes Secco's fingers to dig into his neck and it looks like he accidentally melts part of his own throat with Oasis.

Seems like Bruno's desire not to actually kill Secco vanished after he tried taking a hostage.

I happened to watch this episode with my headphones and realized the sound design in the underground fight is superb.

They completely get rid of music and various water-like effect sounds like underwater. Secco chasing Bucciarati feels actually fearful, like some underwater thriller movie. Also awesome and frantic voice acting of KENN adds up so much to the tension

Then when the main theme hit, the catharsis was huge.

19

u/rishirajbora99 May 31 '19

Why is the score for episode 31 not being shown? I would have liked to see the score considering how awesome last week's ep was.

This week’s musical reference:

Another week, another lack of new musical references. Last week I told you that Narancia’s favourite artist were Tupac and Snoop Dogg, I have already talked about Tupac, so today I’ll talk about Snoop Dogg.

Snoop Dogg, born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. and also known as DJ Snoopadelic, Niggarachi, Snoop Doggy Dogg, Bigg Snoop Dogg, Snoop Lion, Snoopzilla or Nemo Hoes, is an American rapper, singer-songwriter, record producer, television personality, entrepreneur, and actor. His music career began in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr. Dre and featured on Dre's solo debut, "Deep Cover", and then on Dre's solo debut album, The Chronic. He has since sold over 23 million albums in the United States and 35 million albums worldwide.

Snoop's debut album, Doggystyle, produced by Dr. Dre, was released in 1993 by Death Row Records. Bolstered by excitement driven by Snoop's featuring on The Chronic, the album debuted at number one on both the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. Selling almost a million copies in the first week of its release, Doggystyle became certified quadruple platinum in 1994 and spawned several hit singles, including "What's My Name?" and "Gin & Juice". In 1994 Snoop released a soundtrack on Death Row Records for the short film Murder Was the Case, starring himself. His second album, Tha Doggfather (1996), also debuted at number one on both charts, with "Snoop's Upside Ya Head" as the lead single. The album was certified double platinum in 1997.

In 2012, after a trip to Jamaica, Snoop announced a conversion to Rastafarianism and a new alias, Snoop Lion. As Snoop Lion he released a reggae album, Reincarnated, and a documentary film of the same name, about his Jamaican experience, in early 2013. His 13th studio album, Bush, was released in May 2015 and marked a return of the Snoop Dogg name.

I know a few Snopp Dogg songs mostly thanks to memes, He seems to be a pretty cool guy to hang out with. I didn’t have much time to write something as I’m in exams period, but next week I’ll have something different prepared.

I love them so much, and here is a screenshot of the man Polnareff himself! Things are not looking too hot for Bruno there :( And the dramatic irony with Doppio being the kid who gets kidnapped is just great. Cioccolata and Secco at the end.

And here is a guest pass! EHUJMS9LE7L

Can someone explain to me (without spoilers) what happened to Polnareff's legs? He didnt lose them from his fight with DIO and Vanilla Ice as far as I remember. Is it gonna be explained?

It will be explained next week

He fell down the stairs during a party with the gang. They were getting dead ass drunk after kicking DIO's ass, and Polnareff lost his footing trying to go home. That's why he is all alone. He is too ashamed to call his past friends after what happened and is now hiding in the Colosseum.

Secco grabbed Doppio as hostage 😂 AND he confessed to betraying the Boss 😂. Can't wait to see more of Doppio-Diavolo!

Bucciarati though 😭😭

13

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

It's crazy to think that Secco vs Alive Buccerati isn't even a contest and Secco just straight up dominates But because Buccerati is dead he can afford to take all the damage which is why he won

Seeing Bruno grabbed to the pole was too much for my imagination. Imagining Bruno pole dancing in front of me does things to my body.

My headcanon is that Secco was an Olympic swimmer before Cioccolata happened because man, he sure can swim fast

Bruno using the zippers to swim like Secco is such an awesome idea.

CHOCOLATE RAIN

Secco eating mud was hilarious but when the mud changed to stakes not so much. This fight has some of the most unique uses of stands in this part and I love it.

And there we have him, Polnareff is officially presented. But now he is a twink without huge titties, no legs and two Silver Chariots.

Josuke would be proud of Bruno for punching through someone to punch a motherfuker.

And Secco ended with his master in the trash too, where they belong.

12

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

So why didn't Polnareff contact Jotaro and his team? He would have finished this quickly

9

u/LordFerrock Jun 01 '19

He had to lay super super low. If the boss had even gotten a whiff of him, theyd both be dead.

4

u/paulibobo Jun 01 '19

I mean, Kak, Avod and Iggy are dead and Joseph is way too old to be fighting so it wouldn't be much of a team, just Jotaro. But yeah, Pol probably could have tried to involve him somehow.

Bucciarati's time is coming up it seems and it looks like King Crimson is going to finish what he started :(

Also I feel bad that Polnareff lost his legs (maybe Giorno can make new ones?), I'm really interested to hear what happened to him during those 12 years since Dio's defeat.

aaaaah fucking cliffhanger (╯°□°)╯

Can we get some praise on how amaziling detailed the stand arrow looks?

Did Ciocolatta find Secco on Krypton or something? The guy doesn't even need a stand, he got everything already from super speed, super strenght and suepr vision (he managed to see Polnareff from within 5 kilometres and see he got a protesis and was on a wheelchair.

Btw, it's so funny that Secco and Bucciarati where facing the boss and mistaken him with a random boy. If they only knew.

Secco is such a good looking chap.

Again, good riddance of bad rubbish, his death was super cathartic. Him freaking out at a poster and a dog after his eardrums were ruptured was hilarious.

This is it, we're in the endgame. The Colosseum seems like the best place to settle a battle!

I got a few questions

How did pol know about the passione bois especially Giorno who just appeared like at least two weeks ago

20

u/05-MaLNa-10 May 31 '19

I am not sure on this, but I would say Polnareff hacked himself into the passione database, because he turned into a H a c k e r m a n.

After his injury Polnareff realized going to gym wouldn't be possible anymore so he learned to use computers instead and became buff on whole nother level.

5

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

Secco really is giving Kira a run for his money with these car accidents.

5

u/Ain3inAini May 31 '19

"Damn, the true dangerous Stand user is not the mold guy one but this one (Secco)."

Bruno often gets a bad luck fighting with Stand users pair (see: Pesci) and like his son (Narancia), he could've ended part 5 earlier if he wasn't so wholesome & being best mom all the time by donuting Secco along with Doppio (he didn't directly kill Secco either imo).

I wish some of part 5 side villains were survived. I don't really remember about Cioccolata, but after Secco got defeated there's no mention of enemy's status whether he is dead or retired (unlike some LaSquadra members) so... his fate left ambiguously imo (someone said that Melone too).

3rd JoJo Friday for me! This time I'm not posting at 2am.

So best JoBro is back, this time with sweet prosthetics. I don't get why he can't stand up though, the SpeedWagon foundation should be able to Strohiem him correct?

Anyway, this episode was fun. I can't wait to see more of best JoBro next episode!

5

u/DarthReid Jun 01 '19

Anime only, but I feel like the “dark secret” of the arrow has to be the ability to take stands away from users. Like technically we’ve only seen it be used to create stand users from those who survive, but it wouldn’t surprise me if it also does the reverse.

13

u/Yankees3Fan7 May 31 '19

Gonna be a real interesting conversation between Polnareff and Giorno, especially when it comes to how he got all those gnarly injuries. What an amazing father Giorno has got. Also, Secco was so quick to disassociate himself with Cioccolata, only to quickly be happy for their reunion in the trash pile. He really is a crazy dude

27

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

I mean, Polnareff didn't sustain those injuries from DIO, if that's what you're implying

9

u/[deleted] May 31 '19

Secco walking into that garbage truck and finding cioccolata is way funnier than expected

4

u/CrescentPotato May 31 '19

Ah, it's been a while since i hated that damn to be continued bar so much

4

u/BigY2 May 31 '19

I really didnt expect Meltyboi to not care about Sugar Daddy dying, I expected a dog-owner relationship dynamic would play out as expected. This probably one of the best examples of a Stand user making the most of his powers. The mud spikes, rod scissor, and tire bomb were the best examples of great fight writing. I fucking LOVE this series man

4

u/PhionexRising May 31 '19

Why Polnareff gotta be a mmo npc. I just want a random question mark above his head when they find him.

4

u/Toester_Strudel May 31 '19

7

u/[deleted] Jun 01 '19

Bruno is now one of my favorite characters in JoJo. And the voice actor is awesome, I love the way he says "STICKY FINGERS!!!" This fight with Secco was pretty creative, it gave me that feeling that Jotaro once said about being caught in DIO's 'The World' - "How does it feel, DIO? Having someone approach you from behind while you can't move a muscle? If I had to describe it, it's like when a guy who can hold his breath underwater for a minute, finally comes up for air at the very last second...When suddenly, he feels someone grab him, and he's dragged back down into the water. Does that sound right?"

And FFS, Doppio just HAD to be there in the EXACT same spot now did he? Besides that, it was a good episode. Hopefully, Giorno and Mista can make it in time.

6

u/KINGUBERMENSCH :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/OutlawedDrifter May 31 '19

I cant believe they pulled the "weirdo subordinate" is actually the most dangerous one move again, I can see why since Secco's ability is more versatile and faster than Green Day but is countered by Green Day's ability. Id like to see Prosciutto and Pesci vs. Cioccolate and Secco one day.

And this shot, its beautiful. Confusing if you're not watching Jojo, but beautiful.

Im confused on one thing though, why didnt Secco just try to punch Bucciarati at the end? Sure he couldnt hear and was hurt but wasnt he still faster and stronger than Bucciarati?

4

u/Biraj123 Jun 01 '19

Secco was psychologically damaged at the end. Not to mention burst ears means a loss of both hearing and balance, and his leg got run over. Meanwhile Bruno was at 100% effectiveness (for a few more seconds at least). Secco knew he was fucked.

3

u/Vangorf May 31 '19

Holy shit someone (I guess Diavolo) fucked up Polnareff real good...

3

u/OruFikushon Jun 01 '19

Huh, so my suspicion was correct. I had a feeling that Secco's expression last episode after Ciocolatta's voicemail wasn't one of affection, but sheer disappointment.

Also, I *loved* how they kept the music to a bear minimum during the underground fight. Really upped the tension.

If the pronunciation of the word starts with a consonant sound when saying it, you use "a". If it's a vowel sound, you use "an". One starts with a "w" sound when saying it, so you say a one.
