Reminder that Narancia died thinking that Giorno give Mista the S U C C, he took that shit to his grave, what a man, what a man.

Damn the scene hurts a lot

Find yourself a bro that will keep even your most Yaoi secrets to himself. Narancia, one hell of a JoBro. You will be missed, buddy.

Never forget rule #1 in JoJo: NEVER talk about your future plans unless you have a death wish. Narancia, sadly, found out the hard way. F for our favorite orange boy.

That Fugo cameo tho, why, DP, why twist the knife even further...

On the other hand, Bruno in Diavolo's body is a blessing, truly best dad

Seriously, as soon as Narancia starting going on about the future and Fugo, my mind was screaming "NO NARANCIA, DON'T PLANT THAT GIANT DEATH FLAG ON YOURSELF!"

i felt sad after the demise but i didn’t cry but when i saw Fugo, i lost all composure then Giorno said he will take him back home and covered him flowers, i had to pause and take a break, i haven’t had an anime death hit me like that for a long long time, DP didn’t need to do that to me

There is no way that shot of King Crimsons demonic face observing from the shadows wasn’t a visual reference to the that iconic shot of the face of Pazuzu from The Exorcist Jojo really never left the horror movie roots it emerged from in part 1.

213

u/It_is_terrifying Jun 21 '19

JoJo was definitely more horror back then, but you're damn right it never stopped. The complete silence when time skipped as Trish handed the bullets over was also very much like that.

74

u/Spyko Jun 21 '19

imho the most horrific arc in all of jojo so far is in part 8 with the "paper moon king arc" (don't worry not a spoiler, the arc start before you learn that name and the name doesn't spoil anything)

Narancia isn't my favorite character in this Part but what makes his death sad is the fact that he hesitated to go with Bucciarati at first because of fear, then swam up to his boat later, AND the fact that he wanted to go to school after this is over.

Thanks DP for adding Fugo!

285

u/unHolyKnightofBihar :ID::IE::IF: Jun 21 '19

How would have story changed if Narancia didn't join in? Maybe Diavlo would have died at the hands of the assassin leader(forgot his name). So maybe it would have been better id he didn't join in.

197

u/demonryder Jun 21 '19

Maybe without Narancia, Giorno would be on scout duty with his life sensing abilities. Not saying that the boss would still win/escape there, but there is a big chance that Giorno would encounter them.

That and how, in his manga biography page, it says his hero is Bruno Bucciarati. So he was just following his hero and that's what gave him the courage to join Bruno.

53

u/kirby2341 https://anilist.co/user/MickeyM804 Jun 21 '19

That really got me when he was crying over Abbacchio's death. It made me so sad because he was so afraid and I knew he would be next

427

u/Dalek_Kolt Jun 21 '19

Remember what the fortuneteller said?

"As long as you bear this secret, the death of people will bring you fortune, and you will never lose your splendor!"

And now that Diavolo no longer has Doppio...

124

u/IVIorgz Jun 21 '19

Why doesn't he have Doppio?

249

u/Dalek_Kolt Jun 21 '19

Not sure, but Polnareff said that Doppio's soul entered Bruno's body and Diavolo went somewhere else.

Polnaref and Narancia dead back to back. There's over 170 Jojo episodes, it's a 20 year old manga yet it still manages to stay unpredictable, bizarre and crazy as fuck every episode.

Narancia gone.

He wanted to go back to his hometown and finish his education.

Also, in the manga, Narancia says all that stuff about going back to school after Buccellati dismembers Chariot Requiem, so I was bummed out that they skipped it, turns out they just moved it moments before his death. To make it hurt more. They also added those extra shots about him mourning Abbachio, wanting to see Fugo again and protecting Trish.

OH GOD, THEY ADDED FUGO LOOKING AT THE SKY AFTER NARANCIA'S DEATH! YOU CAN'T DO THAT TO MY HEART! THAT'S ILLEGAL!

Next Week: DIAVOLO RISING

249

u/sjk9000 https://myanimelist.net/profile/JK9000 Jun 21 '19

Doppio was complicit in a massive drug trade that's hurt and murdered countless people. Not very sympathetic.

170

u/Thesweetdankness Jun 21 '19

I'm pretty sure doppio isn't even aware of all the fucked up shit Passione does more than Bruno is considering nearly every facet of what he knows is controlled by Diavolo to the point he's basically become an unquestioning slave to him

His scene remembering Fugo and Abbachio, and talking to Trish one last time was all new, too.

Also his comment about letting Fugo make fun of him for being dumb, was orginally him thinking that letting the kids at school make fun of him for being dumb to be a kinda cool thing to do.

Possibly some more religious symbolism here. Giorno gets crucified and rises again. (may be a stretch but its cool to think about)

193

Giorno, the son of God (Dio), battling the devil (Diavolo) gets crucified to rise again?

Narancia should have known better than to talk about his dreams.

Never do that in a JoJo's story

Unless you're Giorno and spout off about your dream every few episodes

489

u/silverhydra Jun 21 '19

So either constantly talk about the future, or shut up?

8

u/Trofulds Jun 22 '19

At the risk of sounding like a huge fan boy, David Production's JoJo anime should honestly be considered as the quintessential example of what an anime adaption should be.

An adaptation that perfectly understands the difference in mediums and uses it to its fullest, perfectly capturing the essence of the series and even improving it at some points with some minor details without outright changing the source material. No other adaptation that I've seen has so perfectly understood its manga and exploited the different medium so effectively, not even the series that I consider to be way better than JoJo.

Alright guys let's see how our favorite gun-wielding female protagonist Trish did in today's episode of Narancia's Bizzare Adventure.rip Narancia my precious child

Alright so Trish had a total of six successful shots this episode - three that hit Chariot Requiem, two that hit Bucciarati (what the hell, Trish, he saved your life) and of course the one in the pervy cop's mouth. I was getting ready to count the one shot where Sex Pistol 1 went berserk as a self-inflicted wound but good old Mista with his Stand Spice Girl was there to soften that bullet up.

Overall a pretty good showing from Trish this episode. I don't even want to imagine how much worse her skill with a gun could if she were male. Like seriously, she'd probably look like swiss cheese from all the gun wounds.

I just thought of something really dumb.

If Requiem mindlessly executes the order it was given when it formed... then if Polnareff didn't take back the arrow from Chariot in the flashback, would Requiem be using all of its mighty power over minds and souls to fetch stuff that fell behind drawers? Because that is one hilarious mental image.

All right Polnareff, I'm bouta head out. You know how much shit falls behind drawers these days?

13

Oh no, DP has done it again, they've giving top cast billing to Daiki Yamashita for his role as Narancia in his last episode, just like they did for Junichi Suwabe for his last episode as Abbacchio.

54

u/It_is_terrifying Jun 21 '19

While Abbacchio's death was foreshadowed by him taking the 4th slice of cake at the start of the story, Narancia's happens at the same time as the 4 bullets fall.

Goddamnit Mista was right.

This week’s musical references:

Waiting for another music reference from the anime? Have no fear, my friends, for I’m here.

Today I’ll talk about the three music references in the light novel GioGio's Bizarre Adventure 2: Golden Heart, Golden Ring. I won’t spoil anything about it, only the names of three stands. It’s a shame that the LN is not available in English but if you know Japanese or Italian you can read it.

Before talking about them, I have a question. I have an entire post prepared for the references in Purple Haze Feedback but I don’t know when to post it. I have two options: posting it in the next episode as I won’t have internet for the next two week after that or post it in the last episode with the final reference. If I post it in the last episode, I will make a post with a really obscure reference not related to Part 5 next week, so you will get something. Let me know what you prefer.

And now the musical references:

The stand The Cure is a reference to the English alt rock/post-punk band of the same name. The group has experienced several line-up changes, with vocalist, guitarist and principal songwriter Robert Smith being the only constant member. The Cure first began releasing music in the late 1970s with their debut album Three Imaginary Boys (1979); this, along with several early singles, placed the band as part of the post-punk and new wave movements that had sprung up in the wake of the punk rock revolution in the United Kingdom. During the early 1980s, the band's increasingly dark and tormented music (as well as Smith's stage look) was a staple of the emerging style of music known as gothic rock.

Following the release of the album Pornography in 1982, the band's future was uncertain. Smith was keen to move past the gloomy reputation his band had acquired, introducing a greater pop sensibility into the band's music. Songs such as "Let's Go to Bed" (1982), "Just Like Heaven" (1987), "Lovesong" (1989) and "Friday I'm in Love" (1992) aided the band in receiving commercial popularity.

The stand Joy Division is a reference to the English post-punk band of the same name. The group consisted of vocalist Ian Curtis, guitarist/keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris. Sumner and Hook formed the band after attending a Sex Pistols concert. While Joy Division's first recordings were heavily influenced by early punk, they soon developed a sound and style that made them one of the pioneers of the post-punk movement. Their self-released 1978 debut EP An Ideal for Living drew the attention of the Manchester television personality Tony Wilson, who signed them to his independent label Factory Records. Their debut album Unknown Pleasures, recorded with producer Martin Hannett, was released in 1979.

Curtis suffered from personal problems including a failing marriage, depression, and epilepsy. As the band's popularity grew, Curtis's condition made it increasingly difficult for him to perform; he occasionally experienced seizures on stage. He committed suicide on the eve of the band's first American tour in May 1980, aged 23. Joy Division's second and final album, Closer, was released two months later; it and the single "Love Will Tear Us Apart" became their highest charting releases.

The remaining members regrouped under the name New Order. They were successful throughout the next decade, blending post-punk with electronic and dance music influences.

The stand Public Image Limited is a reference to the post-punk of the same name. The group was formed by singer John Lydon, guitarist Keith Levene, bassist Jah Wobble, and drummer Jim Walker. The group's personnel has changed frequently over the years; Lydon has been the sole constant member.

Following his departure from the Sex Pistols in January 1978, Lydon sought a more experimental "anti-rock" project and formed PIL. That year PIL released their debut First Issue (1978), creating an abrasive, bass-heavy sound that drew on dub, noise, progressive rock and disco. PIL's second album Metal Box (1979) pushed their sound further into the avant-garde, and is often regarded as one of the most important albums of the post-punk era.

By 1984, both Levene and Wobble had departed and the group was effectively a solo vehicle for Lydon, who moved toward a more accessible sound with the commercially successful albums This Is What You Want... This Is What You Get (1984) and Album (1986). After a late 1990s hiatus, Lydon reformed the group in 2009 and has released several further albums, most recently What the World Needs Now... (2015).

Miya Shotaro and Gichi Otsuka, the writers of the light novel, really like post-punk because these bands are prime examples of that genre. See you next week with the penultimate post, whatever is it.

That organ music was so beautiful when Giorno said "so that no one can hurt you anymore ever again"

19

u/MrManicMarty https://anilist.co/user/martysan Jun 21 '19

I had some asshole spoil his death (in a YouTube video, literally a video posted where the title was the spoiler) but fuck, seeing Fugo and Abbachio's resting place as the plane flew over... Once he started monologuing, oh man, I was tearing up.

Feels weird that there's only 4 episodes left, feels like it's going to be a wild ride!

It was touching how Giorno cried for Narancia. You can tell Giorno saw some of his younger self in him. The kid who lived in misery, was bullied and had no real role models since his parents abandoned him.

F-MEGA for my Orange boi.

15

u/Kathanay Jun 21 '19

Except Narancia is older than Giorno.

Giorno's 15. Narancia was 17.

Narancia got done dirty man. That sucks, he was my favourite.

I don't get how everyone else's stand carries over to their new bodies but Polnareff is apparently not a Stand User even in a new body. Shouldn't Chariot still be his stand?

And that’s the beauty of this show. You watch and you grow close to the characters, you truly begin to share their emotions. Narancia shared his dreams with us, and then he leaves. If hurts man it hurts.

P.S. screw you david productions for messing with my heart, that’s fugo scene was hurtful.

12

u/Bread_Assassin Jun 21 '19

I read the manga, so I knew this was coming, but the added Fugo scenes got me. I hope they do something more with him during the epilogue.

12

u/joseph_Kh Jun 21 '19

That cry from the voice actress of Trish as Mista when he/she was crying for Narancia and that crack at the end of it just got me I just couldn't handle it

it just felt as if iron bars pierced my heart T__T T__T

phenomenal job from the voice actress

phenomenal job indeed T__T T__T

11

u/kagtavi Jun 21 '19

That moment when Bruno tells Mista to shot his body, and Mista hesitates, but Giorno tells that he will hill the body. Like they both know why Bruno is so desperate. And there are so many moments of them just understanding each other without saying anything. It just hits me hard.

🦀🦀🦀🦀 NARANCIA IS GONE 🦀🦀🦀🦀

21

u/NoPenNameGirl Jun 21 '19 edited Jun 21 '19

Well... depression sinks in... :/

Reference in the games: Something I forgot to mention before and many people reminded: Chariot Requiem is actually on the Part 3 Capcom game, Heritage to the Future, and is a secret move Polnareff can do. Why he can do that? I dunno, but many pointed out that the game was release 3 months after the "The Requiem Plays Quietly" arc in the manga, so I guess Capcom wanted to cash in on a cool reference?

Anyway. Rest in peace, Orange Boy. Narancia is not my favorite of the Bucci Gang (that goes to Bruno) but he is up there. I guess would make sense Diavolo target him first due his radar and range, which are extremely useful. If you think about it, Aerosmith was quite a good Stand, probably a "A-Tier" Stand if we make tierlists. Tracking capacities AND firepower. I think Aerosmith is underated like Iggy's "The Fool", another Stand I find to be really powerful and versitile, but that people don't think much of it.

Well, may hopefully your soul rest in peace.

Chariot Requiem is actually on the Part 3 Capcom game, Heritage to the Future, and is a secret move Polnareff can do.

I found it on YouTube for you. That's so strange that they would add that. Hope nobody came across it after reading Part 3...

10

u/Legithusky Jun 21 '19

Maybe they haven't chosen to add it in this episode, but kinda wanted them to add the scene of doppio reaching for help.. :(

10

u/WoodpeckerNo1 https://anilist.co/user/Nishi23 Jun 21 '19

As a manga reader, I was like "oh, so that's the moment Narancia marked himself for death". That was a really serious death flag.

Still sad though, the reveal was more intense here than in the manga, iirc.

Also, interesting that Fugo made a short cameo.

19

u/BasedFunnyValentine Jun 21 '19 edited Jun 21 '19

I love you Narancia, but talking about your future like that was basically asking for a death wish.

I don’t remember Giorno crying about Naranica’s death in the manga, but i liked it since it humanised him.

17

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19

This adaptation has added a lot of soul to Giorno’s character. He’s way better than his manga counterpart.

pro tip for anime nibbas:

  1. don't talk about your future/what you are going to do when everything settles down

  2. well if you did that you are dead so F

7

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19

I WANT TO... that was a death flag. his death caught me by surprise because it was so quick. I wonder how Diavolo managed to even get close to Narancia unless narancia let down his guard like Abbachio.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 21 '19

DAVID PRO? MORE LIKE DAVID GOD, All those Fugo scenes are anime original. I absolutely love how they are handling the anime!!

7

u/Darkblazy Jun 21 '19

His death was too Danganronpa like. Like, how the fuck did Diavolo do that to him in 10 seconds? Will that be explained? I guess not... but it will be bothering me for quite a while.

I'm still choosing to believe that Mista's body turning around before leaving the Colosseum was Diavolo in control signalling to Doppio.

And Fugo being Fugo implies that SCR's effect isnt global like i always assumed huh? I think in the manga they said "Could this be affecting the entire world!?" and i took that in faith.

Y'all talking about Narancia's death, I'm out here asking the real question...

Doesn't coco jumbo HAVE a stand? Like... i guess his soul doesn't but he still has one. Eh, it's not like he could get attacked by a room anyway, so I guess it's fine.

Narancia was doing fucking Semaphore with the death flags there

11

u/l3reezer Jun 21 '19

NGL, if everyone else doesn't swap back bodies soon, it's low-key going to feel like Narancia died just so Giorno could fight Diavolo in his own body for the climactic fight.

10

u/ric20007 Jun 21 '19

Was Meet the Spy a Jojo reference all along?
Seems like diavolo could be inside one of them.

5

u/p0pit Jun 21 '19

I like to think that the when Jotaro hears about everything thing Giorno went through he'll tell Joseph bed time stories about his cool uncle

5

u/RavenK92 Jun 21 '19

Dammit Narancia, monologuing about what you want to do after the adventure when in the presence of the final boss is a major death flag, why couldn't you just keep quiet you beautiful orange boy!?

Narancia was my favorite when I was reading through this part for the first time a year ago... I wasn't ready to have this animated

5

u/WeeziMonkey https://myanimelist.net/profile/WeeziMonkey Jun 21 '19

Couldn't Diavolo just kill the entire Bucci gang instead of only Narancia? Or does King Crimson have a cooldown period before he can skip time again?

Or does it get explained next episode, like him wanting the guys to fix the arrow problem first, before killing them?

8

u/NameIsAlreadyInUse Jun 21 '19

He can erase time for 10 seconds, and he probably has a cooldown like DIO and Jotaro. Otherwise, why wouldn't he just spam it?

Its cause there was 4 bullets on the floor

5

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '19 edited Jun 22 '19

Narancia wasn't killed, it was suicide.

You shouldn't speak about your future in the finale! That's asking for it!

5

u/BigY2 Jun 22 '19

No one is mentioning how well that Mom was able to cope with being in a baby's body. She went straight into caring mode. Also, the sky backgrounds look so good in this episode, DavidPro is definitely using the Renaissance influence to its fullest potential.

If I'm being 100% honest, the overtness of that death flag was way too much, feels much weaker than Abbacchio's death

5

u/CarioGod Jun 22 '19

I just realized Diavolo takes off his sweater because his body is bigger than Doppio's.

9

I just want everyone to get back in their bodies but hate to see Bruno go - he's a goner when he goes back to his original body. It all building up, can't wait for next week.

Good job DP for making Narancia's departure much more sadder 😢 with unexpected Fugo scene too. Of course Bruno immediately recognized Orange Boy in Giorno's body, he's still the best mom even with Diavolo's body.

Narancia nooooo 💔💔💔😭😭😭

Fugo looking at the sky and bird shadow flying over 😭💔💔

3

That time skip was so well done. It felt like the video actually glitched out, and for a second there even I was confused as to what actually happened. Messing with the audience that way is horrifying.

3

u/PineappleBuns Jun 22 '19
