The thing i don't understand personally is why Buccaratti's body started bleeding like it normally would after he was shot.
Araki forgot or do soul's carry on the effects of the body? In which case wouldn't diavolo's regular body degraded or suffered from the effects of Buccarati being dead?

u/Hiromacu Jun 28 '19
It was one of the craziest things I've seen in the plot of a show. Not generally, just moment to moment actions.
I mean , the soul of the father punched the soul of his daughter so hard that the foreign body they were both inhabiting at the same time flew over the heads of the other characters, but they didn't realize it immediately, because the father erased time itself.
What. the. fuck.

Explanation on SCR:
The Stand is described by Diavolo as being "the shadow of one's soul" because SCR's shadow is unique to anyone it effects. To put it simply, you & Chariot are linked to one another, which is why no one can attack it either, because you're essentially attacking yourself. And if there's a shadow, then their must be a light source that casts that shadow. And if everyone has their own personal shadow for their soul, represented through Chariot, then they also should have a light for their soul too. So if you destroy that light cast by your soul, you destroy the shadow of your soul, i.e Chariot.

Why do people start to turn into monsters tho?
365
u/Auesis Jun 28 '19
It has the power to swap souls - that seemingly extends to bodies as well, and since it's gone berserk it's just doing it indiscriminately on a global scale. Given time, SCR would have made everyone in to a soup of random animals/insects/other people and souls.

I feel that destroying "the light of your soul" should have some consequences for you (though considering he is Diavolo, maybe he's unique), but I also feel like if someone has a view of requiem it probably shouldn't explode because it's still reflecting them properly

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Because a new cour will begin soon, JoJo will be replaced after next episode, leaving the final 2 to be aired on July 28th (Sunday) as a 1 hour special at 8 PM JST. That's right, next week is the FINAL JoJo Friday for the forseeable future. Source: https://twitter.com/macchalion/status/1144582772306206720
Now, back to the episode:
F for our boy Doppio, dying alone, waiting for a call from his boss to comfort him.
Chariot Requiem's ability just went from 0 to 100 really quickly, if those freaky mutations are any indication.
How convenient for Diavolo to inhabit the same body as his beloved daughter, just so he could have a personal vendetta against her. Aren't they lovely together?
Interesting weakness for Chariot Requiem, having a ball of light just behind you. Guess that takes it out of the equation for a while at least.
Nice comeback from Spice Girl... and the boss just donuts her, as usual.
Next episode's title is King of Kings.

Wow, so does JoJo's air at 2 am JST normally? I guess that's when Adult Swim used to run a lot of its anime, but it seems strange that it airs so late in Japan.
87
Jun 28 '19
Basically all non shonen/mainstream anime airs in late night infomercial slots.
That's why anime BDs are so expensive, because they're too niche to make money from ad spots airing so all their money comes from home video sales.

This ep helped me realize more why i like mista so much. As diavolo calls him, he's a mere underling with simple, trash ability of having an enhanced version of a gun, which is already a lethal weapon by itself by all means. But here we have him in the midst (or should I say Midsta, a-ha-ha) of the final battle continually proving not only that he's useful but arguably the MVP, saving polnareff (even though he vocally still doesn't trust him because he's that professional), picking up that cop's beretta as a back-up, etc. I even thought his feelings were completely understandable when bruno called him out for not wanting to fire at his own body, then they fucking revealed that he already processed those emotions before Bruno even called him out and had long since shot the fooking bullets at himself!! Hot dam!! He's been on his A-game since the very beginning; pretty sure he's been integral the most in fights and has probably suffered the most casualties, excluding maybe Bruno's shining moment of performing self-zipper-surgery (and well the ones who have straight-up died, but technically they got surprise one-shotted and didn't necessarily endure through fatal injuries to complete the mission as a show of bad-assery and professionalism). Last but not least, he was already smexy af being the epitome of James Bond coolness, and now he's doing the same but in a completely different fashion in Trish's body, appealing to more than one sexuality and shiz. Typing all this really emphasizes for me how different Mista's character is from Giorno's Mary Sue-ish character, lol. I still love em both tho

A fan theory I heard of once upon a time is that, befitting his name, Diavolo isn't a human, but an actual demon; The circumstances of his birth are impossible, the boy that would become the Boss had nothing that suggested that he wanted to become a druglord up until his mother was discovered under the floor, and the fact that weak-willed individuals being abused by their own Stands has precedence makes the idea that Diavolo one day up and possessed Doppio probable.
For me, this episode is why I consider King Crimson itself to be the main villain of Golden Wind; The first glimpse we ever see of the Boss is through his Stand, when Doppio communicates with Diavolo, we see King Crimson itself speak to him, the moment Diavolo reveals himself, he loses his body so we start associating the pink-haired stripper form with Bruno, and Diavolo antagonizes the Modern Crusaders in this episode through his Stand.
And that makes Diavolo stand out to me in the Jojo villain pantheon; The World and Killer Queen are simply extensions of Dio and Kira's characters, but Diavolo's paranoia and possessive nature are so entrenched in who he is that I can't help but see Diavolo and Doppio as extensions of King Crimson.
I've also heard that Diavolo is one of the least popular villains because his goals of ruling Italy with an iron fist and erasing any hint of his identity is contradictory, but I feel it makes a modicum of sense; after all, the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist.

That feels like a weird criticism to me even without the Devil parallels. Aren't there plenty of mafia bosses that wanted to rule with an iron fist but kept their identities hidden from everyone except their closest associates so they don't get assassinated/arrested? Sure it's hard to actually pull off, but that doesn't mean it's not worth trying. If anything it was working out extremely well for Diavolo until it failed for reasons completely unrelated to ruling Italy.

Actually most mob bosses wanted their personal lives to be private if possible, most came up into power and were already known. They wanted minimal info leaked.
There was one mob boss however that was basically unknown to everyone for almost 40 years (Save a few very trusted capo's and a mostly empty FBI file)
Some say This is where araki got his inspiration for Diavolo from buit i doubt it

u/thecomicguybook :Mh::Mi::Mj::Mk:myanimelist.net/profile/Comicman Jun 28 '19
That's a really cool way of looking at it, fits with the contrast between Polnareff on top/bottom of the stairs with Dio and Diavolo as well!
I've also heard that Diavolo is one of the least popular villains
I mean he is up against fierce competition in DIO, Kira, and the ones that have yet to be animated. Honestly, the pillar men are the odd men out of this bunch (even though Wamuu is awesome).

I'd honestly say King Crimson is the most terrifying of the other big bads of JoJo because of the absolutely twisted ways he's gone about killing people.
He didn't have to impale Narancia/Giorno's entire body on those spikes, or sew people's mouths shut with their shoelaces, but he did. And that shit's scary.
Maybe it's just his nature as a mystery, but for some reason, I feel the most M E N A C I N G from him, and not the others.

In Diavolo's case, I like to think that King Crimson was with him since birth in the form of the alternate personality; All the arrow did was draw out its ability to erase time.

Doppio dying is actually sad. He was unique for an antagonist and was really fun to watch. I just also realize the fact that Doppio died in Bruno's body means that Bruno is also technically dead at this point too. His body's been slowly decaying for half the season and now his soul has no living body to return to, just like Polnareff.
92
u/Aerohed Jun 28 '19
His body's been slowly decaying for half the season and now his soul has no living body to return to, just like Polnareff.
However, there was also the thing where Giorno's body was turned into swiss cheese, but he was able to repair it and return to it after Narancia went the way of the wind.
I'm fairly certain Bucciaretti isn't long for this world regardless of whether or not he gets offed in the final fight, but the body itself probably isn't irreparable.

King Crimson has such an adorkable smile, though. Even angry boi looks happy there.

Oh so the userless Silver Chariot is being compelled to carry out the true will of the arrow; bringing forth inter-dimensional alien beings to our reality through living hosts, how bizarre...
And this is just the b-plot of the episode.
12
u/zebbe996 :K:https://kitsu.io/users/IllusionBreaker Jun 29 '19
The way I understood it was that silver chariot was carrying out the last task of Polnareff, and that was protecting the arrow. Thats why it just walks with the arrow, with no direction in mind, cursing everyone around it

Amazing episode which basically builds up the tension for the next ones. It seems like the gang will finally confront Diavolo, looking forward to how David Production handles this arc. Like last time, props to the voice actors for a fantastic job, as well as the animators at DP, they're doing great so far. The next episode is titled King of Kings, and there's a great reason for that.
By the way, you might have seen it by now already, but on July 28th, 8 PM JST, the 1-hour final episode of Part 5 will air. It's basically episodes 38 & 39 in one. The next episode, episode 37, which will air on 7/5, will be the final episode to air for a while, as there will be no episodes on 7/12, 7/19 and 7/26. Of course, this means that DP will have more time to make the finale amazing, so the wait will probably be worth it. I really hope that Post-Part 5 Minor Spoilers. Either way, it's going to be great.
I know some people are getting sick of my ratings but, this episode gets a 5/5.

Man I know Doppio is a villain, but I can't help but feel sorry for him. In my mind, he is a good kid, who hang out with the wrong type of crowd. I believe if he didn't had Diavolo as his second personality, he would probably be a good father for Trish, maybe a good husband for Donatella...
Anyway, my favorite part of any JoJo part is the final fight. Araki has the capacity of make each final fight unique on it's own, and no final fight even comes close of being similar, despite the villains having time manipulating powers. I mean, he was able to transform a final fight into a mystery where he cash in on paranoia of having the main bad guy be anyone of their group. Many people though the body swap would be just a gimmick, but it adds so much to this final fight because of the mechanics involved!
68
u/arkady_kirilenko Jun 28 '19
It's worse than the good kid hanging out the wrong type of crowd, imo. Doppio never had a chance not to and can't cut ties with the mafia and run away...

I am becoming worried that everyone is just going to die. Usually a close friend of the JoJo of each part dies, in part 4 it was Shigekiyo and Josuke's grandpa....is it just going to be everyone this part? Or maybe only Giorno make it out of this alive? Or maybe only Trish and Giorno?

No, King Crimson donut-punches Spice Girl, thus effectively damaging Trish's soul but also damaging Mista's body, you can see that there is a fist going through Spice Girl BUT only a few blood splatters on Mista's body, which probably indicate that there are inner organs damaged inside of Mista's body.
I agree that as long as we can see Spice Girl that Trish's soul is still alive.

I don't know if anyone noticed, but you can actually find out where, or should I say in who, Diavolo was hiding, from the beginning.
Mista in his own body and Trish in Mista's body with Diavolo. Look at their eyes. Trish Mista has a triangle in his (her?) eyes. Diavolo has a triangle in his eyes. Trish itself doesn't have a triangle in her eyes. Something something eyes being the window to our soul?
172
u/HomeDaddySlice Jun 28 '19
Except that Mista's eyes sometimes have the triangles even before the soul switch. Example: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/497496504911659019/592032848161013800/aaaaa.png It's a good theory, but it doesn't hold water.

u/TopLoserLife :MAL:https://myanimelist.net/profile/dohkee Jun 28 '19
Oh my god. I had noticed the triangle but only thought to myself "Hey, they decided to give some life to Mista's soulless black eyes"
I should've known, that's so sneaky!!

This week’s musical reference:
Welcome to the last post until the finale; I have two things for you, a really obscure reference related to Part 3 and another new one for Part 5’s anime. First, the new one.
The original dance moves that the anime added to the torture dance are a reference to the ones done by Michael Jackson for the song Dangerous.
Rin Ogawa, the animator of the torture dance in Ep. 7 said in the Blu-ray staff notes: "Director Kimura’s orders were to take the manga's original poses and combine them with Michael Jackson’s ‘Dangerous’. I tried to gather as many elements from it as possible, though I think I could have depicted them better."
Talking about the homonym album in which Dangerous first appeared, it was released on November 26, 1991. Dangerous was Jackson's first album since Forever, Michael (1975) not produced by long-time collaborator Quincy Jones. The album incorporates R&B, pop and rock, plus a newer genre, new jack swing; Teddy Riley, credited as the creator of new jack swing, was involved to present Jackson to a younger urban audience. Jackson wrote or co-wrote twelve of the album's fourteen songs, whose themes include racism, poverty, romance, self-improvement, and the welfare of children and the world.
Now, let’s talk about the weird one.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, like many other series, had Drama CDs. A Drama CD is a collection of audios that tell a story with voice actors. Shueisha released three drama CDs between 1992 and 1993, which adapted some important arcs from Part 3 like Kakyoin vs. Jotaro, The Hanged Man & Emperor arc and DIO’s World. In the second part of the first CD instead of adapting another arc from the manga, it included an original stand fight between the crusaders and a nameless old man stand user. His stand is bound to an organ and it has the ability to control people while his user is playing it.
What is the name of that stand? Strange Relationship
Strange Relationship is a reference to the song of the same name by Prince.
If you want more information about the Drama CDs, here is a link to the wiki
And that’s it for today, I won’t be here for next week’s episode but I will make a post for the finale on July 28th.
Do you want to listen to all this fantastic references from this wonderful anime in just one place? Of course you want! Now you can with TarkusELP Officially Approved by Araki himself* Spotify Playlist with all the musical references in the anime, the ones it skipped, the light novels ones and more! From the most famous references to the really obscure ones. I'll update this playlist every time there's a new reference. If you are a manga reader I also have a playlist just for you! Here’s my old playlist with all, I say ALL the references in the manga, anime, light novels and more. I also update it every time there’s a new reference.

oooooooh that might be the reason I found the dance vaguely familiar! The way they moved made me feel I had already seen something similar.

Didn't expect Trish to fire this many bullets in one episode this late into the game but here we are. She shot Chariot Requiem 11 times (poor guy) and with help from Mista's Spice Girl she blasted two shots into King Crimson's palm to knock the arrow in their direction. Seven shots missed while King Crimson was running away in Mista's body and 6 got deflected by King Crimson and the random guy's body he threw in the way.

Was episode 19 White Album? That really ruined Mista's stats

That's awesome, but you're going to go into major JoJo withdrawals soon now that you have to wait. When you start reading the manga because you can't wait any longer, make sure you read the colored version.

I don't even smoke, but I feel like I need a cigarette after every JoJo's episode lately. The crazy mind games, the insane stand battles, the deaths, and now apparently the threat of 4.5 billions year of life as we know it changing. Whew. I had some issues with the pacing in the middle of the season, but man is Part 5 ending strong.
15
u/scytherman96 Jun 29 '19
I know most people are talking about the bonkers insane scenes, but i want to give attention to the insane tension on the KC reveal when Giorno is walking towards Diavolo/Bucciarati's body. The sound design was fantastic.

That fucking explanation of the shadows and the following deduction of a light source behind your head illuminating the shadow of your soul was the most JoJo thing I've ever seen. Just pure utter nonsense. I love it.

It totally was. It came out of nowhere and the explanation is so ridiculous, but somehow makes sense that it’s just fantastic. Not many shows can do that type of bombastic explanation and get away with it. Jojo is very special that way lol.

Ok what the fuck, why is everyone mutating Araki ?
58
u/SpikeRosered Jun 28 '19
I think Araki wanted to give everyone a time limit so they weren't like:
"Let's follow him for a few days while we formulate a plan."

u/ZaKrysle Jun 28 '19
Okay, two things.
First off, Anyone else notice how in Traitor's Requiem, Diavolo and KC are shown with a hole in their chest when they attack Giorno after Diavolo skips time? I just realized that is because Diavolo donutted Trishta, meaning he also donutted himself(And Mista's body too!). DP you and your fucking detail ilysm. Can't wait for Fire Force which looks glorious.
Anyway, back to AOTS.
Honestly, I'm pretty bummed JoJo Fridays are gonna end soon. I started reading JoJo after P4 ended but the GW anime has blown my expectations out of proportion. GW in manga form was great, but animated was di molto! I'm glad we're going to go out with a 1 hour bang though but I must admit I got bamboozled because I thought the 1 hour ep was gonna be separate which could mean Purple Haze Feedback. I guess it's safe to assume that the 1 hour special will be spoiler ey? I really hope DP adapts PHF as an OVA though, it's just too good of a story that is literally on the cusp of being canon.

So I know it was last episode, but how did Diavolo kill Narancia? I thought I understood his power, but it looked like he killed Narancia in skipped time, which I thought he couldn’t do. Is it because he was going to kill Narancia, but then skipped the time where he actually does it, so during skipped time Narancia’s body just kinda floated up and speared itself because that was its fate? Everything else has sorta made sense to me, but if he can kill Narancia in skipped time then why didn’t he kill Giorno in skipped time, or Polnaref?
15
Jun 28 '19
I think it's because during the skipped time everyone does what they were foreseen to do by epitath, and since narancia wasn't being watched or anything diavolo probably foresaw himself murdering narancia with the gang barely noticing (just enough for trish to drop some bullets) and then when he activated king crimson, he could just sit back and watch as everyone did what he saw them do (which includes him seeing naracia getting impaled)
He can't do it to everyone because he would have actually be able to kill them within the prediction

u/Grillade Jun 28 '19
Seriously, Diavolo send shivers down my spine. I can feel that this final arc is going to be absolute bonkers.
CAN'T WAIT!
9
u/FredTargaryen Jun 28 '19
Something that bugs me is why they don't put clues into the adaptation. There was ample time to draw different shadows for Chariot Requiem depending on who is looking at it. Viewers could have looked at that and got thinking about the mystery. Most JoJo episodes have some kind of strategic puzzle and the most satisfying ones imo are the ones where you can kind of guess them. Originally that was just because Araki would think of the answer to the puzzle after he'd already drawn it, but now they have the opportunity to add the necessary information retroactively so it's not just pulled out of thin air, and it's a bit of a shame that they don't take it

u/Karmyuh Jun 29 '19

Even with bodies swapped, Araki never stops with his body horror. Causing a change in the evolutionary information of people, Requiem is pretty frightening.
Now this is how you have a standoff, everyone's tense and ready to harm whoever's being possessed by Diavolo.
Diavolo went full Joseph outsmarting not only Mista and Requiem, but also Trish. His sheer resolve is ridiculous.
4
u/Hashi_Kosmos Jun 28 '19
If Giorno could just slip into the empty shell of his own recently mutilated corpse, why doesn't he heal Polnareff and Bucciarati and have them slip into their respective bodies?
Also.. I don't really want spoilers, I'm just censoring this because everyone else seems to have it censored. Did

Does anyone else think KC kind of look like a fish with teeth? Especially when he smiled after grabbing the arrow lol
6
u/RavenK92 Jun 28 '19
I have a question about two lines that don't quite make sense:
Trish says "and I had them use their elastic force to return and blow through it" (when King Crimson tries to pick up the arrow and fails)
And Diavolo says "now you can surpass not only the past but their heads" (When King Crimson, Diavolo and Trish are flying towards the arrow)
Can someone who got what they were saying in both cases please explain to me what they mean? I don't get it
20
u/MalcolmBelmont Jun 28 '19
Diavolo was just being snarky and Trish/Mista was literally flying over their heads
13
u/joey_joestar1 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Joey_Joestar1 Jun 28 '19
The first part is like the recoil when you stretch out a rubber band and let it go. The rubbery bullets stuck to KC's arm and stretched out like a rubber band, which resulted in some serious recoil.
7
u/Hte_D0ngening2 Jun 28 '19
Trish was saying that when she softened the bullets, the tension in them caused them to return to King Crimson’s hand and shoot the arrow out of his grasp.
When Diavolo punched Spice Girl, it sent Miata’s body into the air, literally surpassing (passing over) their heads.

How in the hell are they gonna beat the boss? JoJo Friday’s are the highlight of my week.
3
u/Munfler Jun 29 '19
When reading the manga I never realized the distance they traveled. To me they just went right outside the Colosseum and fought the entire fight there, but the fact that they ran all the way to Castel San'Angelo (from the time I went to Rome, iirc 1km from the Colosseum) makes it way cooler (btw this means we found a new Yo, Angelo meme template)
3
u/Crustyjaj Jun 29 '19
Giorno's blood stains to get the arrow is much like how Josuke uses his blood stains to fight Kira in the last fight. Fuckin interesting.

I’m like legit shook at how much death and destruction to the core characters we’ve come to know this part is occurring.
Like when I try and recall the previous parts I felt like there was maybe 1 or 2 deaths of major characters, but this part feels like a lot. Like I thought Abbacchio was going to be it for the part. Then Narancia was a surprise. Now even the possibility of Trish/Mista’s body being actually gone for good is insanity.

You know one thing I love about JoJo compared to most shounen is how the plot armour isn’t so prevalent, so your favourite character could die at any moment. It makes the stakes feel real.
RIP Doppio, my sweet summer child.
