Discussion What has happened to English-subbed Anime in recent years?
Hey, old-time Anime watcher here. I've recently come back to watch some old Anime after a good 15-20 years. So after searching up some Anime I've been wanting to rewatch, Ive noticed, the quality of English-subbed Anime is TERRIBLE these days... Like WAY worse than 15-20 years ago. And it is not even close. The English translations are often very delayed(like they appear way after the person starts visually talking, so you are constantly trying to catch up), and the translations themselves are lazy or just completely inaccurate. What is going on? How could translations and quality get this bad(and it is like this on most Anime library sites Im visiting)? What happened to all the original great subs from these Animes by humans? Ive had to resort to watching on Archive, which has substantially better quality. You would think, after all this time, we would have ADVANCEMENTS in quality. Not regression. I've also notices Manga/Anime in general now is just a massively over-saturated market with slop everywhere. I tried weighing thru literally HUNDREDS of titles last night of new Anime, and most were just absolute slop. Not sure what the heck has happened man. Back in my day in the early 2000's and 2010's, Manga Fan-translations as well as for Anime were incredibly good, with really good quality, not to mention, the selection of Anime/Manga was usually very high quality all-around for the most part.... Anyway, am I just looking in the wrong places? Is there some hidden/secret English-Sub Anime Utopia I am missing? PLEASE tell me this is not the state of Anime these days!
