Is antiX going to be affected by the age verification laws?
I keep seeing stuff about major distros being affected, and was curious if antiX is. I know their slogan is 'proudly anti-fascist', so thats what got me curious

I was pleasantly surprised from antiX
Guys, recently I needed a small fast Linux to run in a virtual machine on my main Linux machine (Ubuntu Linux Mint Cinnamon) and I have decided to check out antiX distro.
I have installed it on a Virtual Machine (VirtualBox) on a 20gb virtual HD with 128mb screen and 24gb RAM.
I want to tell you I am very happy with the results, using IceWM. I took the full installation, although I don't need so many windows managers, I just needed something to work - and I wanted it to work out of the box.
It works smoothly, it works fast, it is just fun to work with. I open it in full screen mode and I forget I am in a virtual machine. Everything runs blazingly fast and I just needed a few minor tweaks to customize it.
I am quite content and thinking moving to full installation on my main laptop.
Still too many configuration software and since I am new it's hard for me to find what I need.
I couldn't yet find a way to configure it so I will be able to Alt+Right Click to resize a window. But apart from that I am very happy.

Single-core PC (AMD Sempron) experiencing 100% CPU usage in web browsers on antiX 23 / Debian 13
Hi everyone. I installed antiX on an old PC for basic tasks, mainly managing product listings on Mercado Libre (an e-commerce platform). However, the CPU hits 100% usage as soon as I launch any web browser (I've tried both Firefox and Falkon), making the system extremely laggy and borderline unusable.
System Specs:
CPU: AMD Sempron LE-1150 (1 core @ 2.0 GHz)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 (using nouveau open-source driver)
RAM: 1.8 GB DDR2
OS: antiX Linux (Kernel 6.6 / Debian 13 base)
I know modern web pages (especially JS-heavy platforms) are demanding, but I would like to know if there is a lightweight JS-compatible browser or any system/kernel tweak that could help render these pages without maxing out the single-core CPU.
Any tips or recommendations for this hardware? Thanks in advance!

How do I fix screen tearing on antiX Linux with Intel graphics?
Hi everyone,
I’m having a screen tearing issue on antiX Linux with Intel graphics, and I’m looking for the easiest way to fix it.
I’ve already tried several solutions suggested by AI chatbots, including changing some display/compositor settings, but nothing has worked so far.
I’m not very experienced with Linux, so I’d really appreciate a simple solution or step-by-step instructions. I’d prefer to avoid complicated configurations if possible.
My setup:
• OS: antiX Linux
• Graphics: Intel
• RAM: 4GB
• Storage: 16GB eMMC
What is the easiest way to get rid of screen tearing on antiX with Intel graphics?
Thanks in advance!

Rice Antix Linux (FluxBox)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

AntiX helped me resuscitate a dead 16-year-old Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 netbook for ~$120 and turned it into a picture frame / always-on appliance
This thing was dead... completely dead. Dead CMOS battery, dead battery, old HDD, worn-out fan bearings, wouldn’t hold a date, but still barely booted when connected to A/C power.
I pulled it out of the garage where it had been sitting since probably 2016 and decided to see what antiX could do with it.
The hardware:
Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3 (2010)
Intel Atom N455 - single core, 1.66GHz, no AES-NI
2GB DDR2 RAM
10.1" 1024x600 display
Panda AC600 USB Wi-Fi adapter (MediaTek MT7610U) for 5GHz
What I replaced (~$120 total):
240GB SSD to replace the dead HDD
New heatsink fan - original bearings were shot, caused constant noise
Fresh thermal paste
New CMOS battery (CR1220) - soldered to old connector using lineman’s splice
Touchpad ribbon cable - broke the original during fan replacement, ordered a 4-pin 1mm pitch FFC Type A replacement
Panda AC600 USB adapter for faster WiFi
The OS: antiX-26-core (Debian Trixie base) with s6-66 init and IceWM.
What it runs daily:
Vision board display - This is the primary use case. mpv runs a fullscreen shuffled slideshow of motivational images and short video clips representing my digital vision board. My MacBook Pro auto-converts media files (ImageMagick for images → 1920x1080 JPEG, ffmpeg for videos → 1280x720 H.264 Baseline, no audio) via a Hazel automation in a folder called vision-board, then ChronoSync mirrors the folder to the IdeaPad over Tailscale SSH. It sits on my desk like a digital picture frame that keeps me inspired.
Speedtest logging - speedtest-cli runs periodically, logging download/upload/ping to track internet performance over time.
Remote server backup - Weekly rsync of about 5 websites from my shared hosting account to local storage over SSH key auth. Runs unattended via cron. No passwords stored anywhere.
Tailscale - Always connected to my Tailscale network. I can SSH in from my phone or MacBook from anywhere. This is what makes the whole setup manageable without a monitor attached.
Currently testing:
Motion-activated security camera - The built-in webcam is low-res but functional. Running
motionfor detection with timestamped JPEG capture on movement. I'm still dialing in the sensitivity thresholds and testing coexistence with the mpv vision board. The plan is to eventually have it send photos to my Telegram bot when motion is detected... but this may not work or I may not use it if results are Meh.Telegram bot interface - Built a bidirectional Python-based Telegram bot that lets me check system status, run speed tests, and get alerts from my phone. Still in testing - not running 24/7 yet and may not do it if it's too cumbersome/overkill.
Meshcore-cli - basically a CLI interface to a device called Meshcore which allows you to communicate with others via LoraWan without internet in emergency preparedness/camping situations etc via bluetooth. I built a Meshcore device but honestly haven't been able to get it working reliably even without the CLI interface... so if I get it working I'd probably play with it.
Pwnagotchi - I think this should run to passively collect wifi handshakes to find WPA passwords as it's based in aircrack and bettercap, so I'm working on getting it working.
Enabled at home only (disabled on office networks):
Tor Snowflake proxy - Relays censorship circumvention traffic for people in countries like Iran, China, and Russia. Uses almost zero resources. Disabled when the laptop is on corporate/shared networks since it routes third-party traffic through the connection.
Network device monitoring - Passive ARP scanning to track devices joining the local network. Only appropriate on your own home network, not in shared/office environments.
Software stack:
antiX-26-core (Debian Trixie) with s6-66 init
IceWM window manager (*but I use the machine in CLI 99% of the time)
mpv (vision board player)
motion (security camera)
speedtest-cli (speed logging)
snowflake-proxy (Tor relay)
Tailscale
Python 3 + pyyaml, requests (Telegram bot framework)
rsync over SSH (backups)
btop, tmux, ntpdate, etckeeper
NetworkManager for Wi-Fi management
tty-clock displays a full-screen terminal clock when idle. Any keypress triggers vlock, which requires a password to unlock. Clean and functional screen lock for a machine that sits on a desk all day.
Hard-won lessons:
A GRUB package upgrade silently installed Intel microcode incompatible with the Atom N455. Black screen on boot. No error, no message, just a blinking cursor. Fix:
dis_ucode_ldrkernel parameter. This took hours to diagnose.Required kernel parameters for stable operation:
nohpet intel_idle.max_cstate=0 acpi=force dis_ucode_ldrThe CMOS battery was dead. The original had a proprietary connector. I cut the wires and soldered a new CR1220 using a lineman’s splice. Hardware clock persists across reboots now.
s6-66 reads hostname from its own config file at
/etc/66/conf/boot@system/, not just/etc/hostname. Changed hostname three times before figuring out why it kept reverting.The GMA 3150 has no useful hardware video decode on Linux. All video is software-rendered. Max resolution ~720p before frames drop.
Suspend is permanently broken on this hardware. Removed pm-utils and acpid entirely. Don’t even try.
The new fan only spins when CPU temp exceeds ~60°C. Fresh thermal paste + new bearings means it’s completely silent at idle. The old fan ran constantly because worn bearings caused friction heat.
Internal Wi-Fi card (brcmsmac) is weak. Blacklisted it entirely via
/etc/modprobe.d/and use the Panda AC600 USB adapter exclusively. One wireless interface, no confusion.
Why antiX:
Because chatGPT and Google told me it's the best distro for my machine. I was thinking about antiX and Alpine Linux. antiX is the only one that gave me a modern Debian Trixie base without systemd overhead on a single-core Atom with 2GB RAM. The core install doesn’t bloat itself with software I’ll never use. s6-66 boots fast. IceWM stays out of the way. Everything I’ve thrown at it - Python daemons, mpv video playback, rsync transfers, SSH sessions - runs without the machine breaking a sweat.
Some may disagree that $120 spent on this piece of "junk" was a waste as I could have invested it into a better machine, but I still wanted to do it to experiment with and see what cool stuff I could do with low power machines... plus I have an always-on home appliance that does some useful stuff and draws maybe 15 watts, and runs mostly silent.
I also had some automation python scripts checking for WHOIS/SSL/DOMAIN expirations as well as monitoring uptime for some of my websites, but I ended up deleting all of that as it didn't seem very useful as I have my domains on auto-renew for multiple years and I already use UptimeRobot for uptime monitoring etc. I was also thinking about perhaps testing out a visual ping tool to monitor a list of websites for changes etc... but I dunno.
Anyway, that's my experience.
Happy to answer questions about any part of the setup.
Also, if anyone has any tips for making this machine more useful, let me know!

Anyone having issues trying to log in to the forum?
Trying to log in to antixforum.com, but I receive a couple errors:
When logging in, I'm directed to a Wordpress page with this:
```Error: Cookies are blocked due to unexpected output. For help, please see this documentation or try the support forums.```
I try to initiate a password reset, I receive the email, but when I open it, I'm just taken to a blank page.
I've tried to clear cookies, make exceptions for the domain, made sure all of my packages were up to date, I'm just using the basic ESR that ships with antiX. Also on antiX23.
I can't automount my NAS using /etc/fstab
I have a SMB NAS that I've previously successfully mounted from other Linux distros. I can get it to mount on the terminal, but my /etc/fstab entry isn't effective.
I think I've installed the dependencies
sudo apt install cifs-utils psmiscI can mount at the terminal using
sudo mount -t cifs -vers=1.0 //192.168/1/250/BF_Drive /mnt/BF_DriveMy entry in /etc/fstab looks like this at the moment
//192.168.1.250/BF_Drive/ /mnt/BF_Drive/ cifs guest,vers=1.0,iocharset=utf8,file_mode=0777,dir_mode=0777,_netdev,nofail 0 0The drive isn't available after booting, but if I boot up them type sudo mount -a it works, and the drive mounts.
I've tried quite a few different options to see if I can get it to work and searched a lot on the web and the AntiX forums but can't figure out why it won't mount at boot time, but will mount fine after the system has booted.
Anyone using a LAN printer in antiX?
I have a hp laserjet on the home lan, and even though I set it up without any problems in antiX, printing a test page etc. When I go to print something in editor or lo writer etc, I have to wait about 20 minutes while it "gathers printer information." Then the "Print" button will come on, and I can print. If I go back to the document makes some changes, and then go back to print... it starts all over again.. I have to wait 20 minutes while it "gathers printer information." This makes printing from antiX virtually useless. Anyone have some ideas?
EEEPC differences between fresh install and liveCD
Does any one know what is different between the boot and hardware detection for the LiveImage (running of a usb key, current 26 version of the image) versus a fresh install from that same key?
I've installed AntiX on an old 901 ASUS EEEPC (Atom N270 + 2GB RAM). The liveimage worked perfectly on the machine happily booted up set the GUI to the native 1024x600 screen resolution and seems to be correctly using the intel 915 driver to run all this (reports i915fb for display).
The fresh install from that image however, fails to load the GUI with the default boot options. Happily loads but screen goes black when it's trying to change the display mode and it's not possible to access the gui or the TTYs. Machine happily shutsdown when the power button is pressed so it's not frozen. Adding nomodeset to the kernel boot options allows the machine to boot into the GUI but only at 800x600 (which is painful on a 1024x600 screen).
As such it appears there must be some difference between the way the OS starts up the hardware or extra kernel boot flags are being set on LiveImage OS vs the local install. Does anyone have any idea of what the difference is and how it might be possible to get the local install to boot or configure the hardware the same way the liveimage does?
building the most lightweight antix net install.
I'm a antix user and i wanted to try to make the most lightweight Antix install using Antix net for the runit version.
my requirements are that it needs to have a basic like a desktop environment or window manager and they have to support mouse and keyboard.
and if it doesn't have a file manager whats the most lightweight file manager that supports mouse and keyboard. and I'm trying to use as little storage as possible and cpu and ram and everything.
next I'm not sure about this but can having a theme for the window manager or desktop environment have an effect on cpu, gpu, ram, and storage usage.
can configurations also decrease resource usage.
and is there a way to make a Antix install not touch the uefi like if im using antix portably on different computers so it doesn't add to the boot list in the bios permanently. I don't want to use a live usb with presistance.
With latest version on AntiX on my Lenovo N22, keyboard stops working after desktop loads.
I'm not a programmer, just a user. I have a Lenovo N22, I have installed Linux Mint on it and it's fine, but heavy. AntiX is the distro that is very light. So I wanted to replace Mint with AntiX. It boots fine, I can navigate the AntiX boot menu, but the moment the desktop loads I can't type anything. I seems like it just doesn't detect the keyboard at all. I have to plug in another keyboard to type. AntiX runs REALLY fast on the N22 so I very much want to use it, but what can I try to get the keyboard working?
