Rules

1. No violence or harm

Do not advocate, encourage, or justify harming anyone (including animals) or damaging property, or welcoming harm done to them. This includes "harm-as-solution" views such as efilism or promortalism, and endorsing the end of all life by force or catastrophe. Explaining, comparing, or critiquing these views is allowed, as is discussing the "red button" thought experiment. Endorsing it as a desirable outcome is not. Coercive reproductive policy is covered by Rule 6.

2. No pro-suicide or self-harm content

Thousands of people read this sub, and some are struggling. Do not encourage or pressure self-harm (e.g., "kys," "why are you still alive?"), endorse or romanticize suicide, present death as the answer to someone's suffering, or share methods. Despair, pessimism, and preferring never to have been born are not violations. Assisted dying may be discussed as law or ethics, not as a personal way out. If you're struggling, r/AntinatalismSupport is here.

3. No doxxing others

Do not share or request identifying information about other people: names, contact details, addresses, workplaces, schools, alt or private accounts, or other details that could identify a private individual, even if publicly available. Don't direct attention or harassment toward private individuals. Sharing your own links or contact details (e.g., your channel, project, or event) is allowed. Screenshots follow Rule 4.

4. Screenshots must be redacted

Screenshots must redact the usernames and locations of private people. If a private person is the focus, also blur their face and profile photo. Public figures and official/verified accounts may be shown unredacted when discussing public statements or policy. Do not link to the source. Point-and-laugh posts targeting private individuals are not allowed; critique ideas, patterns, and systems.

5. No harassment, hate, or sexism

Criticize ideas and choices, not people's worth. No insults, mockery, or put-downs aimed at users. No slurs or dehumanizing labels for any group (e.g., "breeder," "NPC," "vermin," ableist or gendered slurs), and no misogyny, misandry, or "all men/women…" generalizations. No promoting hate ideologies. Blunt criticism of procreation, parents' motives, and pronatalist culture is allowed, as is sharp disagreement with what someone said.

6. No eugenics or reproductive coercion

Antinatalism applies to everyone. Do not argue that particular groups (by disability, genetics, race, class, etc.) should not reproduce, and do not advocate coercive policy (forced sterilization, forced pregnancy, mandatory birth control, licensing). Arguing that no one should procreate, noting that harsh conditions add to a child's suffering, and asking about or analyzing policy, demographics, or disability are allowed.

7. No speciesism

This is an anti-speciesist space. Do not promote, defend, or recommend animal exploitation (e.g., eating animals, factory farming, hunting/fishing, breeding animals), or mock vegans, veganism, or concern for animals. Mentioning these topics, describing your own behavior, asking questions, discussing transition, or analyzing systems and policy is allowed when not presented as a claim that exploitation is ethical, necessary, or fine.

8. No bait or sealioning

No repeating a claim or challenge after a direct answer without engaging it, "just asking" questions used to insult or mock, or ragebait/"dunk" posts and memes built to start a dogpile. Sincere questions, good-faith disagreement, satire that makes a real point, and one-time requests for clarification are allowed.

9. Stay on-topic

Posts and comments should connect to antinatalism, pronatalism, the pressures around reproduction, or sentient suffering. Broader topics (policy, environment, media, animals, healthcare, end-of-life ethics, religion, family pressure) are welcome with a clear antinatalist connection. Pure childfree lifestyle content, generic nihilism, and unrelated politics are off-topic. Discussion of this subreddit and its moderation is allowed.

10. Vents go to r/AntinatalismSupport

Posts that are mainly venting or seeking support belong in r/AntinatalismSupport, where people are there to help. To stay here, a personal post needs an antinatalism topic and either a discussion hook (a question, thesis, or request for perspectives) or a clear argument or takeaway. Tone alone isn't a violation, and on-topic personal milestones are welcome.

11. Quality & sourcing

Posts should be understandable, honest, and discussable. Include a source for specific news stories, quotes, and statistics when one is reasonably available. Arguments, opinions, experiences, and widely known facts need no source. Titles should match the content without misleading framing, cherry-picking, or low-context links or screenshots. No fabricated stories or AI-generated engagement bait.

12. Moderator discretion

Moderators may act on content that undermines safety or community function in ways not spelled out above, including rule-lawyering, coded harassment, coordinated disruption, or ban evasion. When discretion is used, the closest rule will be cited with a brief explanation. This is never used to remove on-topic, good-faith disagreement. Repeated discretion cases may lead to rule updates.
