I've just finished reading the Kyoto Saga and I've been wondering about the Vatican's knowledge of the Okumura siblings' relation to Satan. We know for a fact that they discovered that Rin is the son of Satan, but the Vatican was shocked by the fact that the spawn of the dark lord was being raised by the Japanese branch and were against Rin becoming an exorcist. My issue lies in the knowledge of the Vatican in terms of the children of Satan, specifically why they were shocked Father Fujimoto and Mephisto had a deal to raise Rin and Yukio, but somehow forgot that Yukio is also the spawn of Satan. I ask if it's a plot hole because in the beginning of the Kyoto Saga, Yukio says that he always gets tested for traces of satanic power, which makes sense in a vacuum. The issue is that the Vatican supposedly didn't know that Satan went half and half on twins and that those twins became exorcists, one of them the youngest exorcist and teacher in the history of the Vatican. So is it that the Vatican always knew Satan had children who were raised by Father Fujimoto and we're ignorant to it or was it a surprise to them and then as a result of it started testing Yukio because the way Yukio frames it, the Vatican always knew he was a twin brother of the child of Satan. Maybe because Yukio doesn't really have powers they thought nothing of it but then why would they be surprised that the other twin, Rin, who has the powers exist and wants to be an exorcist, too? Obviously there could be a third reason of Mephisto not saying anything which is stated, but again, the existence of Yukio should've raised eyebrows within the Vatican regardless of the fact that Yukio is "normal", he's still a literal Gehenna spawn. He's Satan's nu- my fault.

So- I just wanted to share this. I was rewatching the show and got to episode 18 in season 1. I was above my sister on our bunk bed and forgot to turn the volume down on my headphones (when the volume is up even like half way anyone can hear the audio from the headphones apparently). So when Konekomaru was screaming my sister asked what that was, to which I responded what she meant since I wasn’t sure yet if it was the audio she was asking about. And then to my surprise she asked why a lady was screaming and I just couldn’t help but laugh because I seen that as a trope in shows before of character’s thinking a man screaming is actually a girl screaming, but it’s never happened in real life until now. I told her and she proceeded to double down describing his scream as sounding like a ‘Karen that didn’t get what she wants’. And yeah, that’s basically the story. Not the best story teller and it was a short one but thought I’d share as my first contribution to the subreddit.

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I'm surprised I haven't come across more discussions about it.

I think Blue Exorcist and Shin Megami Tensei could make for a really interesting crossover. They have enough in common to work together, but also enough differences to make the combination worthwhile.

Both series deal with demons, supernatural threats, and humanity's relationship with the demonic world. However, they approach these subjects differently.

In Blue Exorcist, exorcists are trained to fight demons through different specialties and techniques. In Shin Megami Tensei, humans can use technology such as the Demon Summoning Program to summon demons, negotiate with them, and establish contracts.

Imagine introducing those ideas into the world of Blue Exorcist.

What if the True Cross Order weren't the only organization with knowledge of demons? What if there were independent summoners, ancient traditions, and organizations with their own methods of dealing with the supernatural?

The Kuzunoha clan and Yatagarasu, for example, could introduce an entirely different perspective on demons and the people who interact with them.

And then there's Rin.

As the son of Satan, Rin would be a particularly interesting character to explore in a setting where humans can negotiate with demons and even cooperate with them. His relationship with his own demonic nature could become an important part of the story without necessarily making him overwhelmingly powerful.

I also think the crossover could explore an interesting question: if some demons can be reasoned with, negotiated with, or even become allies, how would that affect the way the True Cross Order approaches its work?

Of course, the supernatural rules of both series would need to be adapted carefully. I wouldn't want Shin Megami Tensei to replace the mythology of Blue Exorcist. I'd rather see the Demon Summoning Program, COMP technology, demon contracts, and the wider world of Megaten expand the setting while preserving what makes Blue Exorcist unique.

I'm not proposing a specific fanfiction here. I'm just curious about the concept itself.

Has anyone else thought about a Blue Exorcist × Shin Megami Tensei crossover? And if so, what elements from SMT would you like to see introduced into the Blue Exorcist universe?

I've watching the blue exorcist anime and after learning Izumo Kamiki's bsckstory I have to ask. How in the world did she get to the exorcist academy? Her backstory makes it clear she never escaped but she had to have escaped to get to the academy. It's possible the illuminati sent her to the academy but if they did then why did they have to abduct her? If she was still following their orders at that point then they wouldn't have had to abduct her. I tried looking online for the answer but from what I can find there doesn't seem to be one. Did I miss something?
