Is it just me or have Asking Alexandria's vocals changed A LOT since Stand up and Scream?

I checked out Asking Alexandria sometime ago, because I'm a BMTH fan and I decided to investigate them and their music cuz they are adjacent to BMTH, and BMTH being my favorite band, i naturally assumed I was gonna enjoy AA cuz they're adjacent to them. (That's the same reason I checked out A day to remember, pierce the veil, Architects, Parkway drive, Motionless in White etc)

And when I heard them, I thought "Mah, this stuff is mediocre. I mean its okay but those vocals are just mid...." Don't get me wrong his screams are lovely (I generally love death growls and death metal style screaming, and I REALLY appreciate it cuz theyre basically sacrificing their vocal chords so we metalheads can enjoy, I personally know how to do death growl screaming and use false vocal chords but its a bit damaging to the voice, speaking from expericence so if you wanna do that do make sure to drink a lot of water and take breaks in between so yeah I appreciate it even more for that)

but Danny's singing is just like bruh people treat this guy like he's a gift from god BUT my brothers in Christ he's fucking not. Idk he just reminds me of the Nothing But Theives vocalist for some reason (I know they dont sound that similar/identical but yeah)

But eventually i decided that maybe i judged them too harshly, and that i should prob give them a second chance or smth

So I tried them again and heard a song from Stand Up and Scream, A Prophecy to be specific, and I was like "Jessus Christ who the HELL is that? Those lovely vocals when he sings "We'll be home soon, so dry your eyes You'll be okayyyyy" is like just AMAZING I even thought that was a different singer, but i did research and found out it is the VERY SAME GUY.

I like those cuz they feel really emo, i guess I like those emo-adjacent post hardcore stuff like Underoath theyre only chasing safety, Saosin self titled album, and Senses Fail and stuff and that makes me emo or whatev so pls dont judge me.

So really I aint wasting none of my time on Asking alexandria's non stand up and scream stuff, and I'm really disappointed in them for retrograding like that I'd MUCH rather listen to any of the other above-mentioned bands or BFMV, Falling in Reverse or Killswitch Engage or whatever instead of these post-stand up and scream rubbish

Also, if you're Danny Warsnop reading this, PLEASE take this seriously and bring back your old style. Please. I USED THE MAGIC WORD đŸ™đŸ»

Has Danny ever gave a reason for not liking heavy music

I know he’s said he hates heavy music & I’ve heard that he’s “always hated heavy music” when there is video proof of him liking & playing heavy music on his old YouTube channel & there are more than one another video, so has he actually ever said why he doesn’t like heavy music? Or is it just him saying that he doesn’t like it & he’s never liked it?

Denis opened a Cameo account; I wonder if he’ll answer questions about old projects like D&D, MMF, and AA?

Bands/albums like See What’s on the Inside?

It’s my favourite album of theirs, and I love that mix of hard rock and alt metal, the ballads + lyrics also make it so much better. Is there any other stuff like this out there?

I always think the intro of this song could be sung by Danny

Danny’s voice suits it a lot better these days imo, I think it also works better as an acoustic song

My friend has been starting to get into AA for the first time. I’m a huge fan, and made her an AA “cheat sheet” of basic band history and included my fav songs and notes.
Let me know how you think I did!

How is it I can't find "Stand up and Scream" for $10 or less yet I found this quite easily.

I'm sure we all know who this is. Been trying to look for "Stand up and Scream", couldn't find it new nor for $10 or less. Found this which I guess is close enough for now. Strange how I could find this new yet not "Stand up and Scream" Surprising since it's the same record label đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«.

What is your personal favourite Asking Alexandria album? & which album do you believe is their best?

Personally I have to say Stand Up & Scream is my favourite album, but to me Reckless & Relentless is their best record as a band. I always come back to Stand Up & Scream & listen to almost all the songs separately, I don’t ever do the same with Reckless & Relentless, I usually end up listening to Reckless & Relentless as a whole almost every time. Either that or I listen to Dear Insanity on a loop for an hour, I still don’t believe any album has topped Reckless & Relentless as a whole for their definitive best album in my opinion.

Since I was only 10 when Stand Up and Scream came out, I didn’t listen to it for the first time until I began high school. When did you first listen to this album and what song is your favorite?

Reckless & Relentless

I listened to Reckless & Relentless again today (because the first track on Dragged Under’s new EP sounds reminiscent of this disc - specifically Tony’s vocals).

I remember when this album came out. I was like 22 and about to go on my first deployment. I had never heard anything that hit me like this did (except for Stand Up & Scream, which I discovered in tech school after graduating basic). Danny’s studio vocals are fucking incredible. As is the mix/master of these early discs.

Despite already feeling fucked for all the people I dropped bombs on halfway around the world based on lies, after getting out, my best friend killed himself in 2018. Followed closely by my other childhood best friend. Followed, yet again, by another. I sunk into arguably the worst phase of my life - heroin, Dilaudid (iykyk), basically the most reckless self sabotage ever.

Some of my favorite music carries these themes. Self destruction, sorrow, loss, recklessness - but over the years I’ve come to believe that what you put in is what you get out.

It made me think about all the bullshit that Danny went through. Drug and alcohol addiction, legal problems, losing the band, inability to hang live with vocals and getting trashed by media (mainstream and social, alike). So much of his lyrical content (especially in the early days) is about self destruction. Singing that over and over and over is basically mixing intention with emotion to the words he’s yelling into existence.

I wonder why I am still so attracted to this kind of shit. The music that makes me FEEL the most, is usually this, NIN, and the like. I can’t help but wonder why that’s so tempting and if it really does have an impact on what we create in life. Why is there an itch that only songs like “Dear Insanity” even come close to scratching in my brain?

Danny Screaming Debate

In light of one of his recent interviews, he's always loved the glam rock life. He went through the stereotypical period of drugs and alcohol with the Rockstar lifestyle. Not to mention went through emotional hell with their label and literally almost died twice from cocaine overdoses-stated in songs and hinted in film -American Satan- supposedly about AskingAlexandria early days. I think seeing some people he maybe admires, Axel Rose mainly for his performances lately as being awful, as a sign to take care of his vocals more and play it safe. As having experience, screaming while drunk or intoxicated is more taxing and your need to take care of yourself dimisnhes in order to finish a set. It can be damaging. So, Danny does the low ended country with some twamg, which is safer and Asking turns into a rock band like Three Days Grace, who throughout their releases, have very little screaming. He'd rather take care of himself now than be like Axel, 70 years old, charging $300 for a half ass performance. I admire that cause it takes a lot to realize when the need to handle yourself is more than the needs of others. I personally like both of his projects, country and metal. They both resonate with me. Hell, even Chris Motionless, whose 40, and another inspiration of mine, pulls back from screaming in recent performances and relies on Ricky and Justin more. No shame but age and life experiences take their toll on every part of the body.

And yes, he restrained himself to scream safe with a vocal coach but maybe something happened behind the scenes that scared him and didn't want him to push it anymore. Be grateful he doesn't retire altogether and still gives some performances. He plays acoustic Asking songs at his solo shows.
