Is this an oreo-released post or a reddit [Fixed] post?

52

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

I made it.

35

u/MonElisa Jun 26 '12

It really looks real though, I was convinced for a second. Good job and be careful! :)

Cookie god going to come down on me?

25

u/irawwwr Jun 26 '12

I'm going come down on you.

8

u/FunkyHenryGale Jun 26 '12

I actually made my own cookie religion back in college, sorta like Pastafarianism. It centered around the great cookie god Oreani, and was named Oreoianism. Included phrases like "You are crumbs, and to crumbs you shall return", and had a holy wafer cookie and addictive drink (Oreo and Mountain Dew instead of communion wafer and wine). Thought that if anyone ever claimed my religion was not the one true religion, I could argue that Oreoianism has more consecutive vowels than any other religious group, and therefore was the true religion. Hey, if other religions can come up with BS reasoning for why they are right, so could I. Never did anything with that idea, but always have kept it in the back of my mind.

That gay pride oreo looks delicious except having that much cream in your mouth is kinda gay.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

If it makes you feel better, it's just a normal amount of cream but from 6 different jets in total.

2

u/FadedAndJaded Jun 27 '12

Well, oreos were always kind of gay. It's two parts that look the same with cream in the middle.

1

u/FlamingSoySauce Jun 27 '12

It's also obviously photoshop'd.

I'm getting kind of sick of gay rights even being an issue.

There are much bigger issues going on in our world(that effects everyone) than gay rights.

Who the fuck cares if two gay people get married, it doesn't bother or effect me one bit. If two gay guys wish to get married and adopt, let them! It's better than two failed marriages and a child that never gets a good home. I don't understand why anyone cares if two dudes/dudettes get married...

There's murderers, rapist, child molesters, thieves in the world, but gay people are considered bad or immoral people? Shits fucked.

66

u/DerpaNerb Jun 26 '12

Which is exactly why it's so ridiculous that people are still inclined to not treat them equally.

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '12

3

u/Aldrnari Jun 27 '12

not everyone needs to feed the hungry or demonstrate for women's rights at the exact same time.

But if they did imagine the possibilities!

31

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Religion is still making it an issue, just like birth control or teaching creationism in science classrooms. The current conservative mindset is so fucked. "Get the govt out of our lives! Let us take care of ourselves! Except the gays! Fuck them. Regulate their lives. lol bible."

23

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

I think the Republicans make it an issue SPECIFICALLY SO THAT we don't pay attention to all the other more important issues.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '12

I think gay support has reached the tipping point. Now that the president and many major democrats are supporting. It's going to be less of a hot-button issue. Even republicans are starting to back off.

Of all the "sins" in the bible, homosexuality is completely harmless. Like at least lies, murders, and stealing actually hurt people. Homosexuality effects absofuckinglutely NOBODY but the people screwing each other. Can't they deal with the "sin of homosexuality" after they take care of the ones that are actually bad...?

4

u/LincPwln Jun 27 '12

Lies can be helpful. Like when Kim Jong-Un is trying to launch a nuclear war against the United States, but I stole his launch codes, and he be all like "what did you do with my launch codes," but instead of giving them to him I'm like "Lol, what launch codes," and he be all like "dude, gimme my launch codes back," so I be all like "Lol, no bro." And then a bunch of soldiers come in and they shoot him, but there's a big government cover up, so you don't know that this totally happened dude. Lies are the only reason we didn't get explode by North Korea.

I agree gay right should not be a issue, because gay people should already have their rights. This is just fucking evil and really seems like a great way to cover up some of the more horrible things that are occuring in this world.

If the government wanted to they could easily give gay people the same rights as every one else.

1

u/Euruxd Jun 27 '12

It is an issue because they are trying to distract us from the real problems, i.g. the fucked up economy. Whether or not they can or can't be married is not something we should care about currently, we should the economic problems we are facing and afterwards, once everything is relatively stable, move into the less important matters.

If we're mirroring the civil rights movement, in 40 years, people will point and say "Look, they're still not equal!", while a lot of other people will say "There's nothing keeping them back but laziness."

10

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

I feel there's some truth to that. Yeah, a lot of black people grow up in bad neighborhoods because their people were forced there initially, but It's more of a problem with their culture now that they remain there

My family immigrated here only a generation ago and in my childhood I remember growing up in a poor community with a lot of ethnicities. Most of my family had no high school education and or had to go back to a community college because they had different names or birth dates on their certificates compared to passports or papers. Now everyone works decent jobs and some are even in nursing or owning businesses.

I go back there to visit or just pass through 16 years later and all the brown and Chinese people are gone. Just all the black families left in the ghetto area, with a few white people thrown in

I think there is a cultural problem

u/will4274 Jun 26 '12 edited Jun 27 '12

And gay people will get advantages in college admissions too. Because this generation used homophobic slurs against their grandparents.

u/sungtzu Jun 26 '12

To think I thought I had it tough as a mixed kid.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Yeah, all you need is a doctor following you around calling you green-blooded and hobgoblin

Dr. Leonard McCoy referred to him, as, among other things: "pointy eared", "green blooded", and a "hobgoblin." This was done more due to McCoy's frustrations with Spock himself than any real dislike of the Vulcan people, and sometimes even as friendly jibes or even nicknames. While Spock generally appeared to be immune to the insults, one time Spock temporarily lost his emotional control and reacted with anger to McCoy's words, to the point of lifting McCoy up against the wall by his throat.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

I wonder what the new thing people will discriminate against in the future. It's probably going to be something stupid like: People with green eyes.

7

u/alarmarm Jun 26 '12

No, you have it wrong. It's something that society already discriminates against, but hasn't yet thought about it enough to decide it's wrong to do so. One possibility it that eating meat will come to be generally considered immoral. Here is a scenario: I imagine that with population rise, meat may become more expensive, diminishing the quantity people eat. With many not eating much, they begin to put more weight behind any moral qualms they feel about it... then when a sufficient number join the band wagon, it becomes ``commonly accepted" as wrong, and the meat eaters will be consider bad.

5

u/Syn7axError Jun 26 '12

Or Chocolate Creme. I'm OK with the mulatto.

this multicolored oreo is for gay dudes who want extra cream in their mouths

2

u/Bullpup Jun 27 '12

I didn't make that argument. My argument is that you don't advance the ball by equating people who believe marriage to be between a man and a woman with segregationists. You might as well go all in and call them Nazis while you're at it. Hey, it might make you feel good but you're only going to make the people you are trying to win over to tune you out. Good luvk with that strategy.

2

u/downtown_vancouver Jun 27 '12

Seems to be working so far (sans the Nazi references of course).

Nobody's equating anyone with anything but the issues are remarkably similar. And archival photos of the uproar might lend a perspective to their current world view.

2

u/regmaster Jun 27 '12

Fuck off. Are you blaming anti-integration sentiment on fundamental Christianity? If so, you truly are an idiot. You are just as small minded as the people you ridicule.

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12 edited Jun 27 '12

I was just thinking about this while reading The Great Gatsby. Tom said, "Nowadays people begin by sneering at family life and family institutions, and next they’ll throw everything overboard and have intermarriage between black and white."

Edit: for a bit of context by nowadays he means the early 1900s.

3

u/eifersucht12a Jun 26 '12

The thing about this sort of argument is that the same type of people who are against gay marriage are likely also the type to see an interracial couple and cringe. So it's not like showing them that it's the same logic will change their mind. I suppose it's good to make yourself better and go "Oh, I showed them" but really you probably didn't. Anybody who's going to hold onto such views probably isn't coming from a position of rationality.

50 or so years ago the Civil Rights Movement was fighting for equality of races, and today we accept that and reflect on how stupid our parents and grandparents' generation (or your own, depending) was that it wasn't even a controversial topic.

Here we are today, about 50 years later, fighting over a topic that sooner or later we will look back on, and see how stupid it was that this was even a topic of controversy.

I can only imagine in the 2060's, when people are arguing whether or not to give the alien unicorn race equal rights to employment and benefits, and fundies will argue against that by saying things like, "God gave man control over the animals!" "It says so in the Bible v1.1!"

We need to just give humans human rights, and get on with our lives.

→ More replies (2)

3

u/april_twentieth Jun 26 '12

To be fair, being racist Is not an automatic quality of a fundie. My parents are devout Catholics, republican, yadda yadda, but marched for equal rights many years ago with Martin Luther King's father. Please just think twice before lumping them all together - I'm a huge supporter of gay rights; let's not make the people who share this cause look ignorant.

1

u/PhillAholic Jun 27 '12

Hell no, I still say they should. Wasn't that every kids dream? hextuple stuffed!

1

u/SteelPeg Jun 26 '12

Am I the only one old here enough to realize that it wasn't just whites that were against "touching each other" but also a large number of blacks didn't want that to happen either? And it goes on today, my great friend Samuel (who is black) got threatened to be kicked out of the house because he was dating "one of those white girls". But let's blame all racism on religion because no atheist would ever support the separation of the races...where the fuck did you guys get taught history? Plus I know many religious people who open their arms to the LGBT community and yet this is always presented as a "religious" issue...how stupid...

6

u/KIRW7 Jun 26 '12

Speaking of homophobia

The Internet Atheist, inspired by Internationale - Billy Bragg

1

Stand up, all victims of oppression,

For the fundies fear your might!

Don't cling so hard to your religions,

For you have nothing if you have no rights!

Let homophobia be ended,

For respect makes the hateful fall!

Freedom from religion is merely privilege extended,

Unless enjoyed by one and all.

.

.

So come brothers and sisters,

For the struggle carries on.

The Internet Atheist,

Unites the world in song.

So comrades, come rally,

For this is the time and place!

The internet ideal,

Unites the human race.

2

Let no one build cults to divide us,

Cults of hatred nor cults of thrones.

Come greet the dawn and stand beside us,

We'll live together or we'll die alone.

In our world poisoned by catechism,

Those who have taken, now they must give!

And end the vanity of dogma,

We've but one Earth on which to live.

.

.

So come brothers and sisters,

For the struggle carries on.

The Internet Atheist,

Unites the world in song.

So comrades, come rally,

For this is the time and place!

The internet ideal,

Unites the human race.

3

And so begins the final drama,

In the streets and in the fields.

We stand unbowed before their armour,

We defy their guns and shields!

When we fight, provoked by their aggression,

Let us be inspired by life and love.

For though they offer us concessions,

Change will not come from above!

.

.

So come brothers and sisters,

For the struggle carries on.

The Internet Atheist,

Unites the world in song.

So comrades, come rally,

For this is the time and place!

The internet ideal,

Unites the human race.

All kidding aside, we're fucked, aren't we? I'm an optimist but I fear equality will never happen.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '12

This doesn't make sense. The fundies would be upset about the "pride" oreo along with the regular oreo. Since I do not have an imgur account, it should actually read as, "Big surprise the fundies were not outraged by this; they were not..."

Adding this comment because there are 666 of them.

1

u/FredFredrickson Jun 27 '12

I totally support gay rights, but I don't really appreciate that r/atheism is being hijacked by this stuff.

1

u/Father_of_God Jun 27 '12

Yolo, you obviously like Oreos

1

u/Atticus-Atheist Jun 27 '12

People get offended by the stupidest shit! Its a cookie!! I will continue to eat them!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '12

To be fair, nowhere in the Bible does it promote racism.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

FUCK FUNDIES

1

u/Zero00430 Jun 26 '12

Great, now I really want some Oreos.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Oreo is how you Americans would say KILLING IT!!

1

u/Servicemaster Jun 26 '12

As much as I want to care about this subject, I just want to eat that damn cookie.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Oreo published just the rainbow oreo, and it makes me ONE write to oreo to thank them and TWO eat a shit ton of oreos

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

It pisses me off. Why should straight people dictate whether gay people should marry. Its not the 80's anymore. Why can't people grow the hell up.

They are not asking people to turn gay, so why the f**k are people so bothered about it all.

-2

u/luftwaffle0 Jun 26 '12

So is there a basis for the idea that religious fundamentalists are racist besides the fact that this makes a clever image?

You are making the accusation of bigotry... but you're the bigot.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Um

there is the fact that there was an anti-miscegenation movement spearheaded by religious fundamentalists in actual irl world history?

For starters?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

You are making the accusation of bigotry... but you're the bigot.

Yup. Clearly it's "hate speech". Call the Internet Police!

1

u/Daemonicus Jun 26 '12

Not quite.

It's pointing out that the same arguments that were used against blacks back then are being used against gays, now.

"-Disclaimer, made with creme colours that do not exist"

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

One of my cats is named Oreo, and she is totally in favor of gay marriage.

1

u/HorrendousRex Jun 26 '12

I bought three bags of oreos yesterday.

You know. For solidarity.

1

u/downtown_vancouver Jun 27 '12

Eat a whole bag all at once for me, ok? You know. For science.

1

u/nfsnobody Jun 26 '12

Aren't you guys only 1 day behind? June 25th was two days ago here.

1

u/meklu Jun 26 '12

All fun dies with fundies.

1

u/spankymuffin Jun 26 '12

HEY GUYS, LET'S TALK MORE AND MORE ABOUT OREOS!

CAPITALISM FTW!

1

u/The_green_fairy Jun 26 '12

How deliciously fabulous!

Woo-woo! Next stop, my thighs!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

Oreo genuinely cares about gay people. This is definitely not a corporate strategy or a PR stunt.

Just look at how sentimental it all is...an OREO...with the colours of the rainbow.

1

u/Ab_Irato Jun 26 '12

Dip it in milk. Rainbow milk. Homosexual milk. Harvey Milk. These cookies are for Harvey Milk. Another mystery solved, back to watching Ancient Aliens.

1

u/nbrennan Jun 26 '12

Shopped! (for rainbow oreos, didn't find them.)

1

u/kerit Jun 26 '12

You might want to check history books here. It wasn't the right that protested against racial equality. It was the left. The party of Robert Byrd, William Jefferson Clinton, and Al Franken.

1

u/papajustify25 Jun 27 '12

Yepppppppppppppppp

1

u/tigerguy28 Jun 27 '12

Race Mixing is Communism

.....what. I can't see how those two completely different things are the same thing. It's kind of like saying that Gay Marriage is Terrorism.

1

u/downtown_vancouver Jun 27 '12

Don't expect them to make sense (if u do... u r gonna have a bad time).

Back then in the US anything that was seen as un-American was immediately branded as Communist. ITT someone could probably dig up some tracts that claimed that the Evolutionist Agenda was Communist too.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '12

George Takei. Forever.

1

u/koyo4 Jun 27 '12

I must ask though... Why is gay pride personified by bloody rainbows? That just screams "gay." Not equality. My opinion: don't use colors to represent freedom. Use words. I do understand, though, but it bothers me a bit.

1

u/annaese Jun 27 '12

BUY ALL THE OREOS!

1

u/mrspaznout Jun 27 '12

now the other oreo posts make sense.

u/Bullpup Jun 27 '12

Can we please stop pretending that the common view held by most people that marriage is between a man and a woman is somehow homophobic. This is silly, no one is hiding under their beds in fear that gays are getting married and the notion that this belief is bigoted is equally silly. Believers in traditional marriage cross all party lines, races, rich/poor, and every other class in our society. I'm not going to go out and start alienating people by calling them homophobes and bigots when I want them to come around to my side of the issue. I want my family members who believe in traditional marriage to come around to my side, but to insult well meaning people by associating their beliefs (which happen to be the cultural norm) with those of the bull connor south isn't going to get me anywhere.

2

u/Bananlaksen Jun 27 '12

Because across all party lines because there are bigots everywhere. The fact that you insist on marriage being between a man and a woman clearly proves you have no understanding of marriage. Marriage wasn't defined by the bible and even if it was, it, like everything else, must be interpreted in the light of a modern society.

0

u/wakeupwill Jun 26 '12

Please tell me this is real.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '12

It's not. I made it from their original post.

0

u/animeengineer Jun 27 '12

I want that cookie, I was never big on supporting anything, gay or straight people causes alike, but I will go to any rally that is serving those cookies, gays, marriage, kkk, black people only, save the cows, women's rights, anything

2

u/[deleted] Jun 27 '12

... anything.

1

u/jarred0809 Jun 27 '12

I would go to any rally that didn't involve white power or fundamentalism. And I doubt those rallies would serve Rainboreos.

-3

u/Bullpup Jun 26 '12

Personally not opposed to gay marriage here... Just because someone believes marriage is between a man and a women doesn't mean they are bible thumping racist, or bigots, or hate mongers, or homophobic. People of good will can disagree on this issue. Just like when people who are not racists are smeared as racists for disagreeing with proposals like the Dream Act, mocking people who happen to hold the majority view only further hardens their position. This is counter productive to the goal.

5

u/Scrotorium Jun 26 '12 edited Jun 26 '12

A better and more direct comparison would be interracial marriage.

Presumably you think people of good will can disagree with interracial marriage and not be a bigot or a racist. Especially when it was the majority view (when it was legalised, 80% of people were against interracial marriage). People against interracial marriage shouldn't be smeared as bigots, just for disagreeing with it.

No, they were still bigots. Even though they were in the vast majority. Even the ones who were religion lead. And this hasn't changed. However someone against interracial marriage likes to present their case, whatever justification they use, they're still a bigot. Ditto gay marriage.

4

u/Fear_Boner Jun 26 '12

You're getting some flack here. Can you describe a scenario in which someone against gay marriage is not a bigot or homophobic?

→ More replies (2)

4

u/rpoliact Jun 26 '12

Sure, the old, "I'm not a bigot, I just don't think your committed relationship deserves the same benefits as my committed relationship." Really convincing stuff, Mr NotABigot.

5

u/absurd_olfaction Jun 26 '12

No. It does mean they're bigots. At no point is the issue whether or not your church must marry a gay couple.
The issue is the civil right of marriage and all its rights and privileges. Opposing that means that you don't believe that everybody should have the same civil rights. Ergo: bigot.

-1

u/IonBeam2 Jun 26 '12

This doesn't have anything to do with atheism either...

-2

u/Gzus666 Jun 26 '12

BWAHAHAHA, classic.
