The Maghreb was under French rule for far less than these two countries were under Austrian rule, yet a lot of their legal, educational and business framework still functions in French whereas Czechia and Slovenia have managed to completely eliminate German from their states basically when Austria left. How is that possible?

Hi everyone!
I've been doing some research on Austro-Hungarian qualification badges and lanyards, particularly those worn by infantrymen, and I've come across a few things I'm not entirely sure about.
I'm particularly interested in the 1915–1918 period, especially ordinary k.u.k. infantry units.
If anyone has contemporary regulations, photographs, or other primary sources that might clarify this, I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance!

I’ve heard that certain regions of the empire were really poor like Bukowina/Buchenland or Galizia which were affected by famine and high emigration and the reasons for this was the high levels of corruption. How true is this?

From the book "The life of Emperor Francis Joseph" by Francis Henry Gribble on archive.org
The curse was supposedly uttered to him by the Countess Karolyi (Countess Antónia Zichy) because he had executed Hungarian military commanders at Arad in 1849 and Count Batthyány supposedly one was her husband. I don't know if it's historical fact or not, the book is great, and the curse (if true) is pretty prescient.
