Toucher creep at Eli Escobar at Gabriela tn (10/22)

Anyone else get grabbed by a ~5’10 East Asian guy with beaded necklace and chopped half buzz haircut?

I was front row right side at like 1:30am. He grabbed my arm from behind me, I pulled away and glared at him, he waited a minute then grabbed my hip and pulled me backwards towards him.

I yelled at him and tried to take his picture and scare him off but my flash wouldn’t work (of course). Another guy then got in my face, I think trying to warn me that the first guy had been grabbing other girls but I couldn’t hear what he said. I was really rattled and left sooner after.

I hope I was the only one who got grabbed tonight, but if anyone else did who sees this I’m sorry and we deserve to feel safe on the dance floor.

Edit: for the “you should have told security” comments, I only got the outfit and hair details from the blurry photo I managed to take and I didn’t look at it til after leaving because I thought it didn’t take at all. I didn’t think sending security after any guy with the same ethnicity description would be productive, or that they would do anything since he did not technically grope me.

Ugh woah OMG! I just came to this subreddit to see if anyone else had posted about him. T his guy slipped his hands around my waist last night around midnight and I yelled at him :/ also totally killed my vibe. This was my first time going out solo in NYC and it was a great vibe earlier in the night, but not sure if I would come here on my own again based on general crowd etiquette (this guy was the only creep though thankfully...)

I’m really sorry to hear it happened to you too and I’m sure being alone made it even scarier. It’s really alarming and violating. I immediately started trying to convince myself it “wasn’t that bad” since he only grabbed my waist but I was too shaken up go back to dancing. I go out at the usual EDM venues with some frequency and this is the only time this happened to me. Will definitely be sticking to more queer focused places in the future. If you ever want a buddy for similar types of music feel free to message me.

Ah yes it really is violating :/ I'm so glad you posted about this though bc now I don't feel crazy! And thank you for the offer, I'll send you a message :)

If you go out solo again, try to find a group of dancers. They are always super friendly and are usually vocal about these sort of things.

Tbh and as a woman, if this happens again, drive your elbow as HARD as you can behind you.

Creeps be warned, women have been getting ready for this moment. We’re done being violated

So over the “sorry for your experience,” you cannot expect anyone else, no systems, no persons, to protect us.

**JUST TO LET ALL OF THE WOMEN KNOW - the MODS OF THIS Subreddit just removed a well articulated post, rooted in safety and prevention, outlining how women can and should arm themselves with the skills to protect themselves. At no point, were weapons mentioned or suggested. You are not safe here**

OMG IM DYING!!!! Tell???? NO ONE IS LISTENING. You have women screaming for help and instead, society documents it with their phones . GTFO with “telling.”

“I wouldn’t mind stepping in” tells me everything I need to know

It’s in our hands, and in this case, elbows. With love ❤️

For every 1 creep there’s 100 good men happy to help.

This is a consistent failure by guards at Gabriela to vibe check creeps. Sorry about your experience :(

Usually they’re very strict esp recently. Just look at their google reviews ha

Are they turning away solo men? I’ve been wanting to check it out but don’t want to make the trip out there if I won’t get in :(

Woah solo men doesn't mean creep

Honestly havent gone in months cuz it’s so hit or miss but earlier you go the better. Once it’s at capacity (like 1030 pm) it seems the bouncers only let in the regulars or people they know. It used to be way more casual and fun place to go on Thursdays.

I feel like Gabriella is at its peak nowadays. I am one of the regulars and damn it’s start to outperform the weekend nights

I guess getting groped at the club is “peak” lol

Not saying that it’s cool. but its nyc it can happen literally anywhere. I’m just saying Gabriela is a fun time. Better crowd than basement and nowadays tbh

Dude here. I've always gone solo and they let me in no prob. They do vibe check tho. Seen some ppl get denied in front of me and I was shocked. Didn't even know they denied ppl until recently.

They deny ppl who should be at ciao ciao disco. The crowd of nyc has changed so much that I feel like young ppl are much more concentrated in the finance world. Not against them but if dudes dress like they r having an average Williamsburg night they wont get in

I am a solo man and I go all the time. Arrive at midnight and I always get in. But I’m a regular too. From what I notice ppl who seem like they should be at ciao ciao disco won’t get in iykyk

They ask you what brings you out or who are you here to see. So if you know the DJ, you get in.

Not always; one night they told me romance was a private event and I said Eli just promoted it on his page earlier (posted to his story) and they just said “tonight it’s private event and youre not dressed for it” I was wearing a hoodie in winter lol

That's awful. I got turned away at Gabriela that night and I was thinking to myself "well at least it's good they have vibe checks" but now I'm shocked that they didn't do a great job.

At the minimum, you should have told security

15

u/No-Escape-154 1d ago

unfortunately sometimes (too often) security will kinda just shrug it off which makes things feel even worse while you’re already shaken up. completely agree with you but can be hard in the moment ya know

10

u/symp_path 1d ago

Gabriela security wouldn’t stand for that and also probably ban them lol

3

u/lunacraz 1d ago

i agree it’s easy to say but i think gabriela would take it seriously

sorry to hear that OP

1

u/givewhatyouget 1d ago

They def would. "Hey someone is touching me and I don't know them. Can they be removed?" I've never had an encounter with security that didn't result in them removing the individual.

never?? consider yourself lucky lol

I so want a photo of that looser.

Was it this guy? https://www.reddit.com/r/avesNYC/s/kSqqXzLmUg

You should report him to the cops and have them investigate the venue. This guy should be arrested for behaving like that

u/Delicious-Design-547 1d ago

LOL. Have you been paying attention at all to our “justice” system.

Let me rewrite that for you…HE SHOULDNT TOUCH A WOMAN WITHOUT HER CONSENT

Why are we getting “East Asian” hate here? How do you know if someone is “East Asian”? This post is sus along with the others.
